My boyfriend and I came here with reservations. It's actually hidden within a hotel. So at first, no one really came to us after about 10 mins, that was the only upsetting part, but other than that they had Punch Bowl, super delicious and citrusy. There are no signs outside of Freehand that will let you know that it's in there. I had to go inside Freehand and asked the front desk staff. Anyway, my friend and I started our night here. Although it was pretty early when we got here, the place was already packed? Why? Well, first of all, it is located inside of Freehand, which means all those people who are staying in Freehand will be hanging out here. Second, they serve awesome drinks! And lastly, although it is an outdoor venue, people were dressed up to the nines to impress. The bar is pretty small so getting a drink could be a challenge. However, once we got to the bar, our bartender was super cool. He was apologetic about the long wait (Seriously! In all of my time going to bars, not one bartender ever apologized about the long wait when the bar is packed. If anything, they'd act like I was lucky that they'd even get to me); he was also super cool about letting us know the ins and outs of Miami Beach's nightlife. As a matter of fact, he was the one who recommended for us to go dine at the Sweet Liberty Drinks & Supply Company (solid recommendation, dude!). Loved everything about this place. Was not a fan of the automatic 20% gratuity, especially not the amount I would have given based on the service. Something a customer should give based on their experience and not forced to pay. How is gratuity a requirement. I can see why the waiter was not attentive. I had to get up and ask for my check and after he gave me the bill, just left. I can understand giving me time to pay but didn't even check back in with me so I had to get up and pass the bill back. Bill also placed an alcohol tax? I may be wrong but I don't recall other places passing that to customers. Maybe other places infused the tax with the drink prices but these drinks were already expensive. After months and months of hearing about the Broken Shaker, I finally got around to going. New favorite alert!! This hidden gem is located inside the Freehand Hotel in South Beach. I went around midnight on a Saturday and it took us almost 45 minutes to find parking, so I suggest going earlier if you're going on a weekend. You have to walk through the lobby of the hotel to get to the bar in the backyard, which is a charming garden with comfortable, chillaxing seating (and heating lamps when it's cold!). They also have a fountain in the middle of the seating area and played some bumpin' jams. This is definitely a recommended date spot! We didn't get around to trying any munchies since we came for the dranks (all handcrafted by the best of the best). Our first round included the Cashew Colada and the Cranberry Gobbler (my favorite). We also had the Apples to Apples and Star Gazing. All of the drinks were unique and absolutely amazing. This is definitely a new favorite bar of mine in Miami! Also tried the $7 daily punch, which was a mezcal based drink with rosemary and citrus flavors - very refreshing. Love the concept of the rotating daily cocktail and punch for a price you can't beat. Teddy hooked me up with the last drink I tried - Burning the Devil. This drink transported me back home to fall in Virginia - anejo, roasted pumpkin seeds, egg, pumpkin-pecan orgeat, and smoked marshmallow garnish. Delicious. We went to broken shaker on a weekend visit to Miami after a recommendation by a friend. Let me just say we absolutely loved it! We were trying to get away from the tourist spots and this place was exactly what we were looking for. The scene seemed to be about mid 20s-30s. People were dressed well, trendy outfits. It is mostly outside with tons of greenery and people drinking around the pool. There are a lot of different types of chairs to sit in, relax and hangout. The cocktail I tried was also very good. The Broken Shaker Miami is such a cool find! I thought this is one of the most unique bars I have visited in Miami. This is a great place to come have a date night or hangout with a couple of friends while enjoying a drink. I went to this place for the first time with my dog and they were super welcoming. At one point, one of the bartenders even offered a bowl of water to my dog without me asking for it. Outside, they have a pool area where you can also hang out and sit around. All the drinks displayed on the menu sounded so good. Luckily, the bartender attending us was able to help us pick one. Both drinks ordered were absolutely delicious! You enter as if you were a guest at the hostel, walk thru the lobby and out into the courtyard. There, a tropical oasis is waiting for you. From herb gardens, to palm trees to a beautiful inground pool, this place has it going. They have a $8 punch of the day as well as a $9 cocktail of the day. The lounge area we sat in was dimly lit and had a great music playlist that matched the the vibe Of the evening. Our first round of drinks consisted of a split spirit old fashioned and The Smilie which was a tequila ginger-turmeric based cocktail reminded me of a cross between a margarita and Moscow mule was smooth and had a great spice to it. Both of which were impressive and very balanced cocktails. Our second round of drinks were the Coral Castle and the Classic Randy. The Coral Castle is a variation of a French 75, it blew me away with its flavor and taste with one of the ingredients being kumquat. Lastly we split a shaker burger along with two classic espresso Martinis. Their shaker burger was damn good. Double patty, bacon, cheddar cheese, onions and pickles cooked to perfect med rare was a party of flavor with every bite. Lastly, I need to speak loudly about these espresso martinis. I consider that cocktail one of my favorites to drink and craft but the one I received last night was beyond like any I've made or tried. It was the PERFECT amount of salty, sweet and savory. The labneh was a 0 the pita was stale and it tasted straight up like sour cream. No oil or mint in the labneh. The interior decor is super cute and vibey which was nice! Oh service was an absolute 0. For Covid I'd recommend ordering online so you don't have to deal with the slow staff who had us and other tables wait 15 mins to get the bill sorted. The same (or even better) experience We stayed at the freehand and heard all the hype about the broken shaker. Honesty it's not worth the hype. The ambiance is cute but that's about it. (Music is some weird electronic music that's neither upbeat or vibe-y) Currently need to have a reservation because of covid but it was such a hassle to get our name down to get a table. The first time we spoke to the host we asked about getting a reservation and she says to come back after 9pm or something like that so we head out and come back to see if there's a table. Not sure if they misunderstood but when we came back they sent us upstairs to a different lounge. (I talked about this to other guests from the freehand and they also said this happened to them. Weird. ) That lounge had odd vibes, was tiny (size of a small bedroom) and dark and no seating whatsoever. Asked one of the bartenders up there and he graciously helped us to find the right place and clear up the confusion with the host. She asked if we were going to order food and we were foolish and said no (should've said yes just to get a table) But the host (pretty sure did not want to seat us) said they were full. Mind you we were staying at the freehand so we can walk in and see that there were some empty tables. We finally got a table by putting our number on their waitlist with the help of one of the guys in security that we chatted with. Whether it's the daily punch (as for a sample), a cocktail from their constantly changing menu, or - my favorite- a bartender's choice, you can't go wrong! The atmosphere is unlike any other- visit one of the many bars, hang by the pool (where u can also shop artisan jewelry out of a wagon- true story), or enjoy the garden where they grow their ingredients! We also love that attached is Restaurant 27- with an additional bar with craft beer and great apps "para picar"! Yes, the drinks are not cheap- at $15 a pop (which does include 18% gratuity, which they sometimes don't even mention)... My friend, Zach, came into town for a bar tending competition with some of his friends. As a result, in typical tourist fashion, they wanted to hit all the spots in Miami Beach. It had a very intimate feel. I think the only place that can compare in a way is Lagniappe, but that's only in terms of decoration. I like this place a lot more than Lagniappe. Anyway, this cocktail bar can be found in a hotel, or well, I think it's a hotel. It's an outdoor local, lights stringing all over the place, and with plenty of drinks, food, and desserts. I don't recall exactly what type of whiskey I had, but it was the bomb. Foodwise, I had General Gui's chicken that was delish, and well, my friend and I shared a Bedrock for dessert. The Bedrock was frozen, so we had to let it defrost for a bit, but it was amazing nevertheless. While I don't think this is a place I would go out of my way to visit as I cannot stand the Miami Beach area, I do think this is perfect for a night out in the town. Whether going just because or because you have friends that want to go out, I think this place is bound to be a hit. They have an adjacent bar as well if memory serves, and well, this place is just classy. They don't make it like this anymore. read more

I was there last night. Ordered the guacamole, and I also ordered the labane. Both the guacamole and labane came out in small ramekins. Literally no bigger than 2oz plus we got charged an extra $4 for substituting the guacamole chips for the plantains which the waitress recommended but didn't tell us there was an up charge. The worst part was that at the end of our meal I asked the waitress "Karem" if the tip was included and she said "no". I left my glasses in the car, so I didn't confirm. The service was usually great, and the $5 beverage of the day was usually delightful. I also fell in love with their amazing bartenders-- Randy P specifically. Flash forward 5 years and Broken Shaker has a line out the door, of Miami locals and tourists in high heels and short dresses. Nothing like it used to be.
