Like mentioned the owner is so friendly and almost always has some samples for you to try. They host events including cookie decoration. Also while we did not have any since we had coffee before they had coffee by design coffee available to pair with your cookies. Oddly didn't get much of a buttery flavor from this croissant, I also feel like a very small amount of spices could have gone a long way to help pull in some warm undertones for the flavor. Mine was still warm, with a good crackly bite and hints of wood flavor from the oven. Underneath were strong accents of chocolate. Very good and very different. -- Almond Croissant: A swirl shape along the lines of pain au raisins, but with almonds and almond filling. That filling was nicely understated and natural, complementing while deferring to the still-warm dough. Another example of very good and very different. This place strikes me more as a bread bakery that also bakes pastries than a pastry shop that also bakes bread-- not that there's anything wrong with that. And it's a place that's willing to sacrifice breadth of offerings (at least at any one time) for quality of offerings, and there's nothing wrong with that either. Looking forward to many more visits to get that breadth-- and bread-- over time.

A few years ago, Jessica Parrott baked out of her home off Forest Ave. I heard about her through…read morethe grapevine when planning our wedding and gave her a call. She was absolutely lovely to work with! Very responsive to emails and phone calls, and super flexible and helpful with pairing flavors for us. She made a variety of mini-cupcakes and frostings for our tasting and each were delicious--even the margarita cake! As someone who does not like chocolate, I would have eaten the chocolate ganache frosting with gusto. We ended up choosing traditional flavors: red velvet with cream cheese frosting for the bottom (12") and top (6") tiers as well as vanilla with chocolate ganache for the middle (8"). We had just shy of 60 guests at our wedding and were able to take the entire top tier home. She understood the type of design we wanted for our cake (very simple and clean, which required the use of fondant). Our guests enjoyed the taste, though they thought it was "a bit sweet" (probably due to the fondant). The style was what was in my head but not executed as cleanly as I would have liked--in the days before Pinterest, brides didn't have 1,000 images to show their baker, after all--but I was still happy with the price, taste, and service and would recommend her to friends. I'm pleased to see that she now has her own storefront. I have yet to visit, but plan to rectify that soon.
