Their Cassata Siciliana was heavenly!! Honestly the best cheesecake I have ever tasted in my entire life. I am not that huge on cheesecakes because they're on the heavier side, but the citrus added to this cake balanced it out very well that made the cake taste lighter yet have more depth. And wow, they did not cheap out on the amount of fruits on top!! There were berries of all kinds, a raspberry sauce under, and pistachios all around which all added to the many textural layers of this masterpiece! I wish I could have brought this baby back to NYC but it would not have survived the 5 hour car ride back without refrigeration.. my only gripe.. I have lived in this town for 25 years and for 25 years I have been unable to find any bakery that makes the Italian pastries of my childhood. As a child in NYC, visits to the local bakery meant ricotta cheesecakes, pignoli nut and rainbow cookies and Sfogliatella. While I certainly dig the local italian-style frosted drop cookie, walking into Botto's bakery was like coming home. How had I missed this for so long? With so much time to make up for, Botto's has now become a regular part of my life. I ordered a platter of mini pastries for Thanksgiving-Fantastic I've stopped in several times for pistachio cookies-Check plus I've brought home the tiramisu twice-Excellent I stopped in once JUST for biscotti-Yes! My husband requested cheesecake for Valentine's Day and after doing some research I decided to try Botto's. Best. Decision. Ever! In a nutshell, this was the best cheesecake either of us can remember having. So deliciously creamy with a perfect crust. I like that they have several flavors to choose from when ordering a cake, and I can't wait till summer to try some of the seasonal varieties. Stopped by this small, local bakery since it's closely located to my Airbnb. And who isn't a fan of Italian baked goods? The cheesecake and whoopie pies looked incredibly delicious. I came here after a morning run and stopped by to try out some of their baked goods. They had a pretty decent assortment for a smaller bakery--from breads to lobster tails to cheesecakes, they have it all! I ordered a whoopie pie, lobster tail (saw that this was a Portland thing so decided to try it), an apple panna cotta, and a mini individual cheesecake slice. The prices for their baked goods are super reasonable and cheaper than most of the other bakeries that I had visited in Portland. The people working the front counter were incredibly helpful and answered any questions that I had regarding the pastries. They're also pretty diligent about controlling the spread of COVID-19; they only allow up to two customers in the shop at a time and require everyone to wear a mask. After ordering these pastries to go (there isn't indoor and/or outdoor seating available), I tried the pastries at home. I'm not a big cheesecake person and purchased the cheesecake for my SO, and he said that the cheesecake was pretty solid. I did however, try the apple panna cotta, whoopie pie, and lobster tail. After trying these three items, I'm surprised to say that I'm not a big fan of the lobster tail. The flaky exterior paired with the custard inside didn't appeal to much to me and I thought it was sorta lacking flavor and I got sick of it pretty quickly. Again, this might just be because I'm not a lobster tail person in general, but I'm not quite sure since this is my first lobster tail dessert. The whoopie pie was on the lighter side and not as dense as some of the other whoopie pies that I've had, but I will also say that this whoopie pie is a bigger piece than others that I've seen. I'm a fan of lighter desserts and don't enjoy the food coma feeling at all, so I was grateful that this whoopie pie was on the lighter side. The apple panna cotta was also a lighter dessert and not too sweet. I wish that there was more topping of baked cinnamon apple than was provided. But also a pretty decent dessert. If you're a fan of baked goods, I would recommend you try out the place. You won't be disappointed! Be aware that they close semi early and aren't open Wednesdays and Sundays! read more

Stopped in for a baguette but they ran out. I was told if you call ahead they'll set one aside for you. Lots of different bread options- I went with a sandwich style loaf of multigrain. I'm excited to try it on a sandwich because it dried out when I toasted it. I think the denser style loaf they sell would be better for toast. I also got a variety of cookies, which were all amazing. Lemon ricotta, pistachio macaroon and chocolate amareti. I found the cookies to be higher quality, more authentic and cheaper than other bakeries around town. I grew up in a city that had some exceptional bakeries. Nothing fancy, no strange ingredients, affordable prices (as in the change at the bottom of your car could get you a treat or two), run by people who truly put their heart and soul into everything they made not for the possibility of notoriety, but for that loyal customer who has been coming in every.single.Friday morning for twelve years for a small coffee and a pastry. Charming, honest, and delicious without trying... like Botto's. It has filled a hole in my heart (and belly) that I didn't know was missing since moving to this part of the state 'lo those many years ago. It's small. There's no real seating. The coffee options are limited to a self-serve airpot or two. And it's not in a particularly glamorous location. But they're frozen in time, this hidden gem. Offering an abundance of baked goods that you'll recognize from your childhood and your parent's childhood. Things that haven't gone anywhere, and despite the changes in the culinary world, will never go anywhere. All at prices that aren't massively inflated just because they can be, or because they're located in Portland. And served by people who are real and raw and won't put up a front just to win you over. It doesn't get any more authentic than this. And can we talk about those sweets for a second? That tiramisu might be the best I've eaten in this city - creamy, Kahlua-y, and the kind of dessert you tell yourself "just one more bite" until it's all gone. Oh, and you can get an ENORMOUS wedge of it for just a few dollars. Unrelated, I spent the better part of my college years eating raspberry pillow cookies (soft sugar cookies topped with crystals of crunchy sugar and a dollop of raspberry jam), and haven't found anything like them until Botto's. Also, each and every biscotti is crunchy, flavorful, perfectly crafted and thoughtfully created. The only thing that's missing here is the ability to buy a bean supper to go. My mother got a freshly made fruit tart with a shortbread crust and pastry cream for my birthday and It was so delicious! - she got this for me because I'm not a cake person, it's too dense and rich for me - this tart was super light and balanced and had fresh strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries with a crunchy crust and decadent cream inside. Such a cute little place! I ordered a tiramisu from Botto's for a surprise birthday party recently and the whole experience was easy and wonderful. I was able to order via Facebook which was extremely easy and convenient. They got back to me within 20 mins and my order was placed. I then paid by phone a few days before pickup- also convenient. Pick up was fast and the tiramisu was huge! For the price, I really got more than my money's worth! And most importantly, it was so delicious. I walked in and said "wow, I'm really excited to try this!" with regard to the custom cannoli. The two teenage girls in charge of the counter proceeded to mutually roll their eyes (not subtly) at each other in response and could not have been less friendly or helpful. Traditionally known in Portland for it's bread delivered to eateries across the city and available at their store daily, Botto's has stepped up their pastry game with the addition of a new pastry chef over the last year and a half. They have everything you'd expect from a traditional Italian bakery (cue the ricotta based desserts, cannolis & italian cookies) plus your regular bakery favorites (muffins, brownies, and other classic flavored cookies - ex: chocolate chip). The real thrill for me is when they combine new and old for something never tasted before. Like today when I ate (with all the excitement you can imagine) a cannoli cupcake. This delicious goodie was a vanilla cupcake stuffed with canolli filling, topped with marscapone frosting, pistachio dust and mini chocolate chips. My taste buds are watering just remembering how delicious it was. Some of my other stand by favorites which are worth the trip and available daily are sticky buns, lemon bars, chocolate pecan bars (they should have their own religious following) and the lemon ricotta cookies. I've seen that they started making their own homemade soups during lunch but haven't tried them yet. If it's anything like the rest of their products it's going to be great - plus the bonus of one of their delicious rolls to go with it... How can you lose? I finally got to Botto's Bakery this summer as I have driven by it for many years and was unable to stop due to work schedule. I had a gluten free breakfast bar that was yummy and not that expensive ( less than $3.00). I also bought two biscottis that I ate later with coffee that were a real treat. Hoping to try their cannoli's sometime in the future! I wish their location was better as the traffic is always so busy in front of the store and parking is somewhat limited. But their products of traditional Italian baked goods are high quality and the bakery itself is attractive and inviting. read more

I can't tell you how thankful I am of such AMAZING customer service. My coworkers and I travel A LOT for work (75% of the month). It was one of my coworkers birthdays but he was in Portland,ME and I was in San Fransisco, CA. I knew he loved cannoli's and started searching the web for bakeries. I stumbled across Botto's and after reading the reviews, I decided to reach out and see if they could possibly deliver the cannoli's to my coworkers hotel. This bakery gets an A+ from me! Everything I have tried is outrageously delicious! My favorite right now is the Tiramisu- the absolute best I've ever had!
