I do love the closeness of it. The prices are quite great. The only real issue is that there is really such a small selection. I'd like to say it turns me off of the place but I can't because its convenience wins out for me. If you are really in the mood for ice cream and don't want to spend a lot or go far this is your place. I find, the girls pleasant though. after crabbing for a week that the nearest dairy queen was in north reading (seriously?!), J finally let me in on a secret: dairy maid, his childhood ice cream haunt, could appease my soft serve ice cream craving, AND they had cherry dip, AND he would take me there right now. sold! points awarded for: *ICE CREAM. many soft serve places are actually selling frozen yogurt. not the same! i got the vanilla, J got the chocolate. both were cold, creamy, and delicious as they should be. *VARIETY. they had so many options i wanted to try i suddenly wished i could get a tray of samples a la beer flights. (wouldn't that be awesome?) but i stuck to my guns and got my dish of vanilla soft serve with cherry dip. still, i also saw they offered slush, rickeys, sundaes, shortcake, hard ice cream, and other unique soft serve flavors (next time i go i'm totally getting banana soft serve with chocolate dip) and that was just part of the menu i saw before my eyes glazed over with panicked indecision and possibilities. i was surprised to see the other reviews stating they were lacking in this department, but where i grew up your only options were chocolate or vanilla, cone or cup. (so get off my lawn!) *JIMMIES. more importantly, knowing that there are chocolate or rainbow (colored) jimmies, not "sprinkles." points docked for: *SERVICE. as others have mentioned, they could be a little friendlier. they do their job and do it fast, but seem a little put out by it, especially if you have to correct them. (we went back and forth on the 'wait, what did you want?' question a few times.) i noticed there was no place to leave tips though so maybe there's not much incentive! *PARKING. when we arrived, the place was empty so it was no problem, but after finishing our ice creams in the car (no outdoor seating) the lot was full, there was a line at both windows, and there were cars waiting to get in. just gotta get lucky on timing i guess! overall i was very happy. the dip was a little heavy in the cup but that's harder to do than a cone and i'd rather more than less. flavor was great and the portions were just right - we got smalls so the larges or even mediums must be huge! and an ice cream shop a short drive away is always a good thing. thanks ladies, we'll be back! read more

I went here a few weeks ago and I was so happy to see they had some new soft serve flavors. I wanted to get banana soft serve on a cone and pistachio soft serve to have at home. The banana soft serve was great but the pistachio soft serve machine was broken so I had to settle for something else. They still warrant a 4 but I did not think the kids behind the counter knew wtf they were doing. When they pushed the button to see if the pistachio was working they did it directly over my roomie's first flavor and tainted it with liquid goop. Then they added another flavor on top of the nasty green goop instead of making it all over. Ugh. I would have asked them to make it over if it was me...but she didn't. read more

We live close by and have been coming to Dairy Maid for many seasons. I am obsessed with the cherry dip over vanilla soft serve. Also, they do have so many different options that a lot of places don't have. Different soft serve flavors, lots of ice cream and what seems like every Richie's slush flavor in existence. I have never had an issue with the service. In the summer, it's usually kids working summer jobs, we always give them $1-$2 tip and every time they are extremely grateful. The location of this place is great, plus there is usually parking. The workers on the other hand are incompetent, rude, and too busy rushing through orders resulting in the wrong order. When I was there tonight, the girl waiting on me messed up not once, but twice, and then said we placed the orders incorrectly. She spilt one of the frappes, picked the cup up and was going to reuse it until I yelled through the window asking for a different one. She also attempted to tell me that I couldn't get my "usual" order, which I have been getting for years. At that point the eye-rolling put me over the edge so I cancelled my order. While this was taking place, the other young female employee came out of the bathroom and began running her fingers through the jimmy's - yuck! I have been going to this place my entire life (15+) and this season's employees are by far the worst, to the point where I am going to take my business elsewhere. read more

This is my favorite establishment in the Greater Boston area. Their hot fudge is to die for and the girls are out of this world. My child dropped her ice cream before the first lick in the parking lot and was crying her eyes out. The girls saw her crying and motioned to me to come get another and gave it to me free of charge. Very yummy sundaes (we like pineapple, hot fudge, and strawberry shortcake.) It's a bit pricey but a yummy treat. And I would agree that the service could be better (teenage girls who sometimes get your order wrong and are a bit distracted) but it's very tasty and the exchange is fast. read more

Love love love the frozen yogurt, I've only been a handful of times, and the chocolate still amazes me. Plus, it's fat free and sugar free, and still tastes fabulous!! Just got back from a long walk from here with my kids.. Pretty disappointed as my 1 year old has an egg allergy and no one could tell me if their ice cream contained egg... I go to this place all the time and i gotta tell ya its great! I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys great sundaes and even better service. The girls behind the counter are always friendly to me and I go so often they even know my name and my favorite sundae!
