Went in for Sunday brunch for the first time. We had eaten dinner here before and really liked it. I had an omelette, which was very good. My wife ordered smoked salmon platter and it just wasn't for her. She asked to order something else (after eating the bagel and hardboiled eggs on the platter) and we offered to pay for everything. We got a breakfast burrito to split which was outstanding. They did take the smoked salmon platter off the bill too. They didn't have to do that, but have definitely earned a satisfied, and customer that will be back! Thank you, Morgan, for being a great server too! read more

For a spot serves standard pub/bar food, this places excels. It's the service that sucks. Enjoy all the golf stuff on the walls. It is on Hilton Head, a popular golf destination. I highly recommend the duck wings. They're drenched in a delicious chipotle sauce. I couldn't easily taste that it was duck but it was damn good. Crispy, saucy, heavenly. This place sucked in service. I mean, terrible. Our waiter had no personality and wasn't even helpful. You should always bring a drink menu, assume that one halfway through his/her meal would want a refill and pretend that you just a bit happy to be working. This is my second time here. The first time was good. All I had was an appetizer (Bavarian Pretzels) and a beer. After that experience I thought I'd definitely come back for a meal. This second experience was very poor. I had the "Irish Spring Rolls" not good at all. It didn't seem fresh and it was very dry. The plating looked like a mess. Pleasantly surprised as this was my first foray into brunch in Bluffton. Based on the reviews, I called for reservations the day prior but was told they do not take brunch reservations for less than 3 people and be prepared to wait. Arrived slightly before noon and had no problems being seated right away. The scones were the best I've ever eaten: warm, small, fluffy, and with cinnamon. Bottomless mimosas were nice and smooth, not strong enough for me but decent. At the last minute I decided to go with the Shrimp & Grits and I'm so glad that I did. The Andouille sausage instead of bacon really made this dish pop and the shrimp were very well seasoned. Portions were smaller than I expected, especially the 5 oz steak my friend ordered (it was smaller than a cheeseburger from any fast food joint. Definitely get the larger size if you get it at all). We have eaten here many times but never for dinner until tonight. Typically we stop for lunch and it's always been good...both service and quaility of food. Tonight we stopped for dinner...what a mistake. Vegetables on my plate were frozen terrible disappointing peas and carrots....my wife ordered a tuna melt. Pretty easy right...I am not sure how they could have messed it up more..bread wasn't toasted, the cheese was like plastic legos melted seriously you couldn't have eaten it...asked the waiter if he would eat it and he said no way...he did take 15% off the bill but big deal...come on this Resturant should be able to provide quality food...the the question I have is why the Cheif or head cook would send something out so distasteful. We will now pass this place as there are others that offer far better food. Service was good but young and I think afraid to take the issues back to the owner or chief. This is a great place to eat and have a Guinness. Last night my wife and I ate their prime rib. It was so tough, we brought them home to make soup. A few hours on a low simmer will make the edible. Boxing Day (day after Christmas) at the British Open Pub. Can you imagine a better time to go? My British husband certainly thought so, and we headed out for a proper lunch. They even had English Premier League soccer on the television -- it was like being back in London. I had the fish and chips and he had the steak and mushroom pie. My fish and chips were excellent -- some of the best I've had in ages. The only thing that would have made it better would be the addition of mushy peas, but I'm just nitpicking. Crispy beer batter and excellent chips, served with plenty of malt vinegar and tartar sauce. Oh hell yes. I wolfed it down in record time. As I went for the large portion, I shared it with my mom and it was plenty for two. I'd suggest splitting it, which the pub was more than happy to do. The pie. Oh dear... the "pie." Wow. I've never seen such a disservice to a proper British pie in all of my life. When it came out, it looked very much like a British pastie -- a square of filo dough which we assumed contained the steak and mushroom. OK, so not really a "pie" so to speak... but it looked good. Then the waitress produced a bowl full of steak and mushroom in gravy, and proceeded to dump it all over the filo dough. WTF? Last time I checked, a pie was a crust that held stuff in it. This was a sea of filling dumped on top of a piece of crust. He was suitably perplexed, but proclaimed it "kinda alright... I guess." Not glowing praise. Mashed potatoes that came with it tasted instant, and the veg is probably better not being talked about. In short -- go for the fish and chips. My word they know a thing or two about that. There is a commercialism to their food, one thing about Irish, Scottish and British Pubs over there is that the food - while simple - is extremely well-made and made from fresh ingredients. My husband and I went for the first time. It took a long time to get our food, while we were waiting we could see the staff in the kitchen. The staff were not wearing gloves. The kitchen staff should be aware of there actions. One of the staff was scratching at her head. Another put a plate of food under the heat lamp. Later on she took the plate off the counter and stuck her finger in it and tasted it. I looked around and thought I was in an episode of Bar Rescue! The food was good, but the fries could have been hotter. When I asked for a drink re-fill, our waiter wanted to re-fill the glass I was using which is a food safety violation. A customer near-by asked their waiter for a take home container. The waiter brought the container holding it with his gloveless hand by the inside portion of the container. Overall their were way too many food safety violations, so we will not be returning to the British Open Pub. read more

I was definitely full when we left. My wife liked the liver and onions dish. My parents enjoyed the sheppards pie, although it di not look that good to me. We have been going here for breakfast for months. Pretty good food and service. Last visit I ordered breakfast sausage which were always delicious. These were loaded and I mean loaded with grizzle and hard pieces of bone. Mentioned it to the waitress and the manager came over, I showed him the bones and he was genuinely surprised. We were back today and because of our past history and his assurance that this was not common in this meat, I ordered them again. Well...I bit down on a large piece of bone and it jammed between my teeth causing a great deal of pain and loosened the tooth. We went in last night for dinner. It wasn't very busy for a Saturday night. But I was glad about that. We were seated quickly, and before we even opened our menu, our waiter Rodney was asking us if we'd like a drink. I'm a fan of good quick service, but give me a minute or 2 to get situated before you run up to us for a drink order. When we get our drinks, we're asked if we're ready to order. We were so we're asked what we'd like. We order a kids shrimp and chips, a chicken pot pie, and the seafood platter fried with a side salad no tomatoes (due to an allergy) the salad comes out from the kitchen, and the food runner just says side salad? I tell him It's mine, and he drops the plate in front of me and just walks away. The first thing I noticed after he dropped my salad was that it had chunks of tomatoes in it. It seemed to me that he knew it was wrong, and just ran back to the kitchen so as not to have to deal with it being wrong. I waited till Rodney showed up again. About 5 minutes (funny, he was at our table within 30 seconds to get a drink order) when I told him the salad had tomatoes, he just reached down and grabbed the plate, a few minutes later, the salad comes out fine. We then get our dinners brought out,(before I finish my salad) the food runner again auctions out the food (thats a restaurant term for asking the customers who ordered what) totally a minor league move. There should be a seating chart, with table numbers and assigned seat numbers. Anyway he drops the food again, and before I can ask him for vinegar or Tabasco sauce. He was gone. As I start to eat my seafood, the first thing I grab is a scallop. As I bite into it, I realize the scallop was rancid, sour, and smelled so spoiled that it made me gag. I asked one of my friends to smell it, and they quickly turned their head in disgust. I put it to the side, now I was determined to find out if this was an odd scallop or if they were all bad. I opened another. And yet another, all 3 of them were so bad, and smelled that I called Rodney over again. I told him that the scallops were spoiled, and before I could say anything else he huffed, grabbed the plate and went back to the kitchen. Had he stopped to ask if I wanted something else I would have just told him that I only wanted the fish and chips. But he didn't, so as my boy and our friend ate their dinners. I was sitting there waiting for mine. When it did come out, I was eating alone. I opened and smelled the scallops just to make sure they were good. They were. But I had this rancid taste in my mouth the rest of the night. When we were close to being finished, Rodney simply placed the check down, and excused himself. Never once did he ask if we wanted dessert. Or even apologize for the screw up on the salad. Then the seafood platter. I don't quite understand how this place could one day get 5 stars from me. Then less than a year later lose all but one. The last time I was served spoiled fish from a fish and chip place was almost 5 years ago at a place called Katy O'Donnell s . I have never returned and never will. I like the BPO, But I will have a very hard time coming back. I didn't expect my check to be comped, but I did expect some sort of apology, and maybe a visit by the Manager. But all I got was a $50 plus bill. I'm going to have to really think long and hard about referring anyone to this place. I don't want to mislead anyone into thinking that this place is nothing more than a mediocre place. It's too bad, because I gave them 2 stars the first time I was there, then 5 stars the last time but today I can only give them one because of all the mistakes that were made. I'm a local, and my boys and I eat out at least 3 time a week, but we won't be going to the BPO anytime soon read more

Cocktail sauce had no punch at all and didn't help the fish flavor in the least. Fries were good but no better than anyone else. With coke and tip around $16. Not worth it.
