We have dined here for 25 years. Arguably the most British dining on HHI. My dear wife simply will Not prepare liver and onions; nor will she scramble squirrel brains with eggs. British Open Pub does not prepare squirrel, but they do great with liver and onions - the bacon is the secret. Travel tip: Elect a patio table for neat views and quiet. Our excellent server Jennifer continues the tradition of great service at BOP. BOP was one of first Sports Bar on the island. Small property is divided between bar and restaurant, but we recommend patio dining. Perhaps it has been some time since the owners experienced actual British dining.... Missing is the ever present chicken dinner; also we cannot recommend their version of French Onion soup (we recommend a visit to Chez George.) read more

This review is for British Pub on HHI. POSITIVES: 1) The second delivery of the pot pie (after it was sent back) was excellent in taste, but see below. 2) The water was wet. NEGATIVES: 1) The wait for service after being seated was too long. 2) The server ghosted us after the meal was delivered. 3) The ribs were tough, and not up to the quality we consistently receive at the Bluffton location. 4) The sides were served haphazardly on the plate with one overlapping the other. 5) The pot pie's crust was badly overdone / burnt. The second delivery of the pot pie appeared to be the pot pie I sent back with the upper crust removed and a new one plopped on top. So, when I tried to remove the spoon that was stuck through the crust the entire thing came off the pie. 6) As we were nearing the completion of our meal we received multiple visits from the reception hostess and kitchen staff trying to remove plates from the table before we were finished. Again on the positive side, however, the waitress was very nice to us when it came time to pay the check. read more

We absolutely love the British Open Pub. It fills up with locals from happy hour until sunset, but it's generally not terrible wait! We love the happy hour deals, we love the service, and we love the golf themed ambiance. Totally family friendly, they love on my infant and make us feel welcome. Sat at the bar, with my sister, and Jen, the most amazing bartender. The service, prices, food, and drinks, were of great value, quality, and taste. The Irish Spring Rolls were like a mini corned beef sandwich. The fish, and chips were OUTSTANDING!!! We'll be back. Our first visit to the British Open Pub was while we were house hunting in Hilton Head a number of years ago. We have since been back many times and are never disappointed. We particularly like that the food is always well-prepared and the kitchen does not feel the need to let the chef alter how dishs are prepared like some other restaurants on the island as they attempt to differentiate themselves. BOP is also able to attract very good servers such as Erin who kept things moving during our last visit when the restaurant was very full because it was "Spare Rib night". She had nice light touch and seemed to know exactly when to stop by to check on the meal or settle the bill. read more

We had reservations and were quickly seated- waitress was friendly and very efficient. I came for Prime Rib Wednesday but wasn't very hungry so I got the Blackened steak salad that was huge and excellent - got a doggie box for the rest. Service was great- friendly and very efficient . You have to go/ try this restaurant. Long time place loved by locals. It is very consistent over the years. Many of the staff are long term and provide great service! Lots of tables spread out. Brunch on Sunday. This was our first time at the pub and we didn't know what to expect. According to my SIL, the establishment truly reflects the character of a British pub. It's cozy and welcoming. We ordered crab cake eggs Benedict and smoked salmon eggs Benedict with potato wedges. Both entrées were super delicious. Our waitress kept the mimosa glasses topped off regularly, which was a welcome change from some other establishments were one has to keep calling for a refill. Great fish and chips, great service, with an upscale sports bar vibe. Recommended to us by a local, this was a perfect lunch spot for our after a golf outing. The special was a fish and chips and they were perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We visit HHI every year on our family vacation. Heard this place was good so decided to try. There were 6 of us. We called ahead and they were very accommodating. The menu has British favs and regular fair. If you just want a burger you can. I got the chicken and chips. Which is like beer batter fish but with chicken. It was good. Got fries and Cole slaw with it. Both ok. We had a few people get the ribs. Everyone seemed to enjoy. And a chicken pot pie. That looked good. And I was told it was very good. Server was fun and attentive. In Wexford so plenty of parking. Prices are about average. The place is golf themed and dark like an old pub. Overall it was a different change of pace on HHI. Normally, we love coming here; Jenn and Carol they're great!! Yesterday I was extremely appalled as one of the waitresses was cursing vigorously throughout the dining room, threatening violence; mentioning wanting to use a box cutter or something on someone. It was a complete lack of ill professionalism. My husband and I, were just trying to eat our dinner at the bar, while this women was screaming at the kitchen door saying harsh things. Now I will say the bartender was extremely apologetic and kind however, I never want to bring my kids in here and have that be the environment so I fear we will not be back. read more

This was a try because it was near lunch and so we decided to eat. Not at all disappointed. My wife had a Cobb salad which was "Huge" and delicious. I had a bowl of Onion soup and had lots of onions and cheese with lots of flavor. Had a Cuban sandwich which tasted really good. This is THE pub on the island. Came here for a 9:30am NFL game. Stayed for the afternoon games. Had amazing service, huge selection of drinks, and huge selection of really good food. Would not really recommend it. Let me explain. Hudson's and all those places had 2 hour waits so we needed a spot. Tried out this british pub. Host was super nice, atmosphere was cozy, but also meh. Pretty small inside. Server was nice aswell, but they were old. Not a bad thing but usually you want young energetic people workin in your establishment. I'm not British but she did make it feel more authentic lol. First time in a British pub, so im sure the menu items and atmosphere were authentic, lots of stuff I've never heard of, lots of pot pies, and other "yummy" stuff. I risked it and ordered the liver. I've never had liver so why not right? Im a young lad I need to grow! Was a flatter version of steak, lot more tender, lot less flavorful. Idk if they don't use seasoning in Britain but it was plain besides a spoonful of gravy and bacon on it. Bacon was way to smokey. Came with side of potatoes, gravy and vegetables (peas and carrots) The potatoes claim to be "home made" but they tasted like box potatoes. Not good at all. Vegetables had no flavor. My mom got the steak, server never asked her for a temperature and it came out half medium and half little under medium rare. Dad got the pot pie with baked beans? The one meal with baked beans, I forgot to take pictures. One review said they tasted like canned baked beans, my dad liked them. how else are you supposed to make baked beans besides the can though lol. Sister and gma got ribs, which were actually pretty good. They liked them and I had one. Potatoes on all these meals though, bummer cause they sucked. Might as well been a cup of water with a scoop of grits in it. Ordered dessert, the bread pudding. Dude that was super good. If I came back I'd just get that. The drinks were good too. Overall won't be back, but glad we tried it. Hope to try another British pub and see how they compare. read more

Had a dinner with family while vacationing in HHI. I chose the chicken pot pie that came with a salad. The pot pie had a puffed pastry on top. The pot pie was filled with chunks of chicken along with lots of veggies. It came out piping hot and was delicious! Our server was top notch! She was engaging and attentive. Hostess (or maybe owner or manager?) did nothing to help the server, and was completely indifferent to everything that was going on. this is run by a weird group of people/staff. first off, upon entering, we were asked if we had a reservation, the place had only 3 tables of diners & i saw in her book that there weren't any reservations listed for that night. she takes us to a table in the most awkward place, right in the middle of an EMPTY room. we wanted to move to one of the tables off to the side or a booth. we tried to get her attention but she was ignoring us, engaged in a conversation with this solo diner. the waitress, started saying, don't pay any attention to her, she's clueless & lost, just go move to whatever table you want. it was really weird & uncomfortable to her the waitress insulting & being condescending to her coworker.....she called her out many times throughout our visit, loudly & easy for everybody in the small restaurant to hear. we ordered a couple of guiness beers & an appetizer, irish spring roll. the spring roll was stuffed with corned beef, sauer kraut & swiss cheese, served with thousand island dressing. the spring roll seemed to be grilled instead of deep fried.....had good flavor but the spring roll wrapper was raw in the middle....we ate around it. ordered fish & chips for dinner. they were awesome, super crispy batter with flaky fish & seasoned fries. it was really good. i'd go back for the fish & chips, but the weird employee interactions were just bad vibes. also, bathrooms were dirty & gross. i always think that if they allow us to see how dirty things can be, how dirty is the parts of the restaurant we can't see? read more

Mediocre describes this miserable excuse for a pseudo British pub. The place has about as much ambience as the local mortuary, and the staff are so lifeless and slow, I don't think it'll be long before they're in said mortuary. One old Hobbit of a woman walked past our table three times, messing about with ketchup bottles for ten minutes, while we waited and waited to be served. We ordered chicken pot pie and a lobster roll. We got fish and chips and a tasteless lobster roll that would have been better described as a $28 tomato roll in disguise. I asked for two Scotch eggs to go. The kitchen help made a fuss about that, because I asked for no salad, even though I was prepared to pay the with salad menu price. You can safely give this place a wide berth. It's lousy, and I should know - I am British and have run a very successful British pub. read more
