Our food was so amazing my husband had fish and chips. My daughter and I had the chicken and chips it's called something else though. The batter made it so crunchy. It was so much chicken we could have shared we did get dessert to go a bread pudding and chocolate cake very tasty also. Would go back for sure read more

Two of us got the chicken and chips (aka fries). Delicious battered chicken (huge chunks of meat inside). Very tasty! We both said we'd get again. Other person got a steak with a mushroom sauce (sauce was so good) and said it was cooked perfect. read more

What changed with the fish & chips? Used to be the islands best, but now won't make top 5 on HHI. Usually order F & C 8-10 times a year. Been a little while since we last ordered F & C here, but today's (11/7/24, 2PM) offering was just not good. Cut of fish was different, batter/coating was very different (too much batter and over cooked) and overall was very, very greasy. No more nice big flakes of white cod and light batter. Chips were also overcooked and not the same quality as before. As long time residents of HHI and fairly frequent customers of BOP, today was very disappointing, especially at that price. Would like to know if things will change back or if this is the F & C offering from now on. read more

The British golf theme was was cool but the food was hit or miss. I had to get the fish and chips since it's a British dish and suppose to be their most popular menu item. Comes with slaw too which I didn't care for at all. Had a weird taste and way too much celery seed. The chips were ok but not seasoned and the fish suffered the same. The batter fell off so eating it was a challenge. Our table also got the crab cake sandwich and the chicken battered the same as the fish. Servers were friendly and welcoming and it appeared their were several "regulars" there dining. I should have gotten the lobster pot pie but thought the fish and chips would be great and it just wasn't. Not terrible but nothing that would indicate a return visit. Golf on all of the TVs was a plus for my husband and son though! read more

Giving a 1 star review based on the greeting alone! Incredibly blunt and un-welcoming--and off putting. My wife and I arrived at approximately 6:45pm this past Saturday. Restaurant was 3/4th empty, but most seats at the bar were taken. Had eaten there a couple of years ago. Hostess walked over--no hello, no smile --and bluntly said "we have no availability tonight". Then after a few uncomfortable seconds she glanced at the bar (no eye contact with us) and said we could sit there--first come first served. When I pointed out there were no open seats at the bar, she immediately blurted "we're full", and simply stood there. Again, no expression of sympathy', no polite semantics of something like "I'm sorry , but nothing is open right now" The encounter was striking in its lack of warmth and politeness. My wife and I are a late 60's couple and were dressed in golf attire (golf vests, Sketchers, etc)--similar to others in there, so don't think we stood out in any way. We were polite (and actually had no chance to establish any sort of conversation). I get that maybe it's popular. Maybe they cater to regulars. Maybe arrogant (based on my past visit, they have nothing to be arrogant about). But no excuse for such a negative initial encounter--they should at least be polite to a couple that tried to be customers. read more

I heard a lot of great things about this place. Nice charming atmosphere wait staff was very professional and intended to our needs parking was a little weird.. A lot of places claim that they have authentic fish and chips. The British pub can be proud that they serve fish and chips as good as you can get on this side of the pond. read more

Interesting experience. Started off rocky. When ordering drinks were informed they were not entirely sure where half the stuff came from and some things were not available. My DH and I stopped in for dinner. They have both inside and outside seating with true British feel pub. We were quickly seated and served drinks. It was Friday night but the restaurant was not too busy. I ordered a cup of French onion soup and beef Wellington appetizer and my husband ordered the chicken pot pie. Our food came out within a few minutes and was delicious. The service was friendly, the food was phenomenal and it was an overall perfect experience. We will definitely be back! read more

We ordered take out. My husband ordered the English Dip which he liked and I ordered the Player's Chef Salad. The menu states that the salad includes julienne of roast beef. When I opened the non-bio degradable styrofoam box that the salad came in and unwrapped the tinfoil there was no roast beef. In addition, the turkey and ham were processed meats and not fresh. A good comparison would be the California Cobb salad at Up The Creek. Their chicken comes freshly grilled on a grill or blackened. read more

We have been coming to the British Open Pub for years. We were there a week ago and had a good Lunch with good service. Today we stopped at 12:30 for Brunch. The mean-spirited female maitre d refused to let us sit in a booth, claiming it was being saved for a party of 4/6. There were other booths that had two people. Next she tried to seat us at the small table for two inside the front door. It was cold and we didn't want to be in front of the door. She wouldn't seat us anywhere else. There was no line of people waiting. It worked out great. We left and went to Jane's Bistro where we had a wonderful Brunch with great service! Thank you grumpy lady. This was an impulse stop because I had a Craving for fish and chips ( the one thing I seem unable to make at home ). Well this is your standard British Pub lots of alcohol and the other dishes you'd expect at a pub. If you're in the area and the wait time isn't to long then by all means you won't do wrong eating here. read more

Food was good. Slow, but good. Service is lacking here. Seated but shamed for not making a reservation. Perhaps that was the reasoning for purposefully not hitting our table. Waited 25 minutes for greeting. 45 minutes total to be able to order. Food out in 5. Then another 20 minutes to get check. Far too long of a visit, making for a very poor experience. read more

Cute little restraurant that seems to be a favorite for the older locals in the area. It's also particularly golf-centered with golf celebrities autographs on the wall as well as golf playing on all of the televisions in the restraurant. PROS: -The place serves a pretty nice brunch offering on the weekends including one of the island's most affordable bottomless mimosas with a brunch purchase. -The aforementioned bottomless mimosas were refilled promptly and without a problem. Fantastic job keeping those glasses full! -Service was particularly awesome. Empty plates were taken away promptly, and drinks were refilled pretty constantly too. Food was brought promptly, and our waitress was really nice. Definitely is a place with a focus on service. -Lots of daily specials that change depending on what day of the week it is. I should have taken a photo of the specials, but I forgot. Oops. -Food was okay. Nothing remarkable but nothing bad. I don't think their specialty is breakfast cuisine since they only serve it twice a week, so I wasn't expecting anything too remarkable. CONS: -The portion sizes on our "sides" order seemed particularly small for the cost compared to the portion sizes on the "entrees" we ordered. -Portion sizes of the brunch items are a bit on the smaller side. However, these are brunch items and don't need to have the bulk of most dinner dishes. Just be aware of that if you come here when you're a ravenous lion. read more

I visited this restaurant while on vacation. I won't comment on the food because the gross racism I witnessed completely turned my stomach. The restaurant had all white patrons, but one table with Asian American people. One of the Asian gentlemen ordered French Onion soup. When the waitress delivered it she said "Here's your egg drop, umm, French onion soup. Sorry, I don't know what I'm saying." Then she left quickly and had a weird demeanor the rest of the night. The restaurant doesn't serve egg drop soup. She was either being intentionally racist to his face, or comments were being said in the back and she accidentally repeated them to his face. Decided to try this place on our way to our condo because we were starving from the car ride and had heard good things. There was outdoor seating and we had our dog with us, so that made it a great option as well. The hostess appeared a bit stressed and I overheard her getting a bit short with a few other guests in a weird way. It was strange and made me almost want to leave, but we stayed. The rest of the experience was positive. The servers were attentive and kind. We all enjoyed our food. They had Guinness and Smithwicks on tap, so we enjoyed some pints and that was nice. We would visit again for delicious food at a decent price. read more

This was the last place we dined while in HHI. We road our bikes there and arrived very hungry. It's a traditional Irish pub, and I wanted to order everything on the menu. The portions could easily be split by two. The fish was perfectly cooked and flaky and I loved it! It's a casual place to enjoy with friends for cocktails, beer and a hardy meal. Thank God I rode my bike to burn off calories on my way home. We had so many leftovers. I'm so sorry I have no pics. I arrived hungry, gobbled it up and never let my "camera eat." The mushroom soup was incredible. We had Fish & Chips and Bangers & Mash. YUM!!! read more

We make a point of coming on Wednesday for Prime Rib night...go early or you may miss out. Make a reservation.... Other favorite "Fish&Chips". Bring your appetite or be prepared for leftovers. We've enjoyed The British Pub in Hilton Head for many years. We own in HH but do not live here year round. We arrived shortly after they opened at 4:00 PM. We were promptly ushered to a the back of the restaurant, next to the restrooms. Plenty of tables in the front and booths we've enjoyed many meals over the years we've been here in HH. The person seating us seemed more interested in the loud mouthed "regular" in a green shirt. A sullen looking server came to our table in the back corner and mumbled something????? She brought water without anything to us and walked away. We walked out. Doubt the beige haired woman that seated us gave a notice. We've always found The Pub friendly and welcoming for years. There's a sign on the door "We're hiring". The beige hair and the sullen servant must be the best one gets at The British Pub in HH. read more

It's got a lot of golf pictures and TVs. The food is ok. Reuben and patty melt were good. The fish and chips needs to be fried in new oil as they both tasted the same. The fish was too greasy. Prices are ok. No prices on the drink menu. Needs more charm and personality. We won't be back. read more

We have been eating here for years....not sure what has happened to this place. The staff is incredibly rude starting with the hostess...who told us they were fully booked that night even though they had multiple empty tables. She finally "found" us a table that we could sit at. Then, my son ordered a hamburger with NO CHEESE and he specifically told them he was allergic to cheese. They brought him a cheeseburger which we sent back saying "we told the waitress he was allergic to cheese." Five minutes later they brought back the same burger with half of the cheese wiped off. We decided not to say anything more at this point and he just ate at home. We are so sad because this used to be our favorite restaurant on the island, but the last few times have just been a disappointment. read more

If you're looking for a cosy English pub, you can't go wrong here. Appeared to be full of regulars and the staff were just fantastic! We had dinner here and it was classic English pub fare. The steak pie was delicious, but be sure to ask for bread on the side to mop up the extra gravy. Speaking of bread, I'm not sure if it's baked in house or not, but it was divine! Oh my! I could have eaten a whole basket of that on my own! While there are plenty of trendier places to visit on HII, you can't go wrong with an old school gem like this. What can I say....my husband was so happy here, he didn't want to leave! We started with the baked Brie appetizer...just order it, you will love it! I had the patty melt.....the best I have had in ages, the fries were not greasy and delicious! My husband had the liver and onions (I think he eats this to gross me out, but he loves it)...he the best he has ever had. He said it was so good, if he had the room, he would have ordered another helping. The service was wonderful, friendly and efficient. The only thing I will say is, it seemed to have an older clientele, but that shouldn't stop you from going there. read more

My husband and I are visiting the Island and stopped here for our first dinner of the trip. We started with the New England Clam Chowder. It came quickly and was tasty. Every bite was loaded with clam in a creamy base. We then shared the St Andrews Fish and Chips. It came with three perfectly battered cod and hand cut fries. Add a bit of malt and it was exceptional. The only disappointment was the tartar sauce which was a bit bitter and the over creamy coleslaw. Thanks to the exceptional service, we will return. read more
