I needed two compliant escape/rescue windows put into Chicago basement bedrooms to replace some older double-hung windows that in no way left a big enough opening for folks to get out. Despite some less-than-enthusiastic responses from other companies, Peter Pane's responded promptly to my job request on Yelp and Ron (who has 40yrs of windows experience!) scheduled to come onsite only a few days out for a review of my needs and to give a firmer quote. One of the window frames was too small for a legal-sized rescue window to just be swapped in, but when I explained my goal to meet code, Ron was able to think through some more difficult-to-install and less common options to put in a larger window (I ended up going with a casement window there and taking out existing framing). I also had concerns about the more common type of window suggested for the other room (he was trying to be price-conscious for me because it's a large one) - and he was concerned about longevity if I got something like a reverse hopper window because of how close to the weight limit that one would be. He was able to suggest a Tilt & Turn window instead, which is uncommon in the States but was exactly what that room needed! Both windows required a custom order and Peter Panes pushed the manufacturer to get the windows made as quickly as possible for me since I was planning for occupants soon. Both windows were done at the earliest point in their estimates (about 4wks) and they scheduled install ASAP. Jensen, Connor, and Ron showed up at my place last week with both windows in tow. We had originally thought some drywall work might be required to fit the expanded window into the first room, but these guys were all pros and were able to adjust the framing and finagle a change in the latch direction on the casement window to make it fit perfectly without having to cut any drywall! They made sure to keep some of the original framing as a template to make a new exterior that matched the arched brick lintel so the outside looks great, too. The second, larger window went in easily and they were meticulous with sealing the outside with foam and the inside with high-quality caulk along the edges. They left the space completely clean, were easy to work with, and were both respectful and non-patronizing (particularly if you are a woman hiring contractors in Chicago, you may unfortunately know how rare that can be!). Both windows look great and work just like I need them to be escape/rescue window code-compliant. The process was smooth from beginning to end, the team was efficient and cleaned up after themselves, and they brought a lot of knowledge to the table. I can definitely sleep at night knowing they helped me get just the right windows with a high quality install and at a fair price. If I ever have any more windows replaced, I will absolutely be calling the team at Peter Panes.

As a single mom, I spent years saving up to replace all the windows in my home, and I chose Blue…read moreRibbon for the job. They came with a five-year warranty, which gave me peace of mind, but my experience has been anything but reassuring. Recently, after a major rainfall, I noticed bubbling on the wall beneath one of the windows. Blue Ribbon sent out a technician to inspect the issue. The technician admitted that the bottom part of the window wasn't caulked properly and then proceeded to "caulk the heck out of it." However, they suggested that the issue might be due to the tub, which seemed off to me. Wanting to get to the bottom of the issue, I hired a separate contractor to investigate. Upon ripping open the wall, we discovered mold and 75% saturation coming from below the window. When I called Blue Ribbon again, they now blamed the previous window. Despite my persistence, they finally suggested a "water test," but I questioned its effectiveness after they had already caulked everything. Since then, I have not received a response from Blue Ribbon. I am now in the process of contacting a lawyer to address this issue legally. This experience has left me very concerned about the other windows they installed in my home. Fair warning to anyone considering Blue Ribbon: their workmanship is poor, and their customer service is worse. Save yourself the headache and choose a different company.

Oxsana let me know they were coming on Wednesday. I had wanted him to come out before and assess the window, but he wouldn't do that. He finally showed up at 1:30 for a morning appt. Since I have mobility issues, he went up to look at the window. First he needed a place to work from so I said he could use the garage. Then he asked for paint. An hour later he was at my door telling me he was finished. I made my was upstairs and almost nothing had been done. Never needed any work space and no painting either. The windows were leaking to the point that it was taped. Basically, all he did was unstick the window and nothing else. I pointed out the tape and he said he hadn't noticed it. That's his job. He went back and caulked the edge of one window. For this we paid $450. My neighbor went to look at the work and was appalled. I was embarrassed. We feel completely ripped off. After researching several window companies, I ultimately chose Window Door Pro for my project,…read morewhich included replacing my original 1976 white casement windows with ProVia Aspect windows and installing a new ProVia sliding glass door (replacing a patio door that had been installed by a previous owner in 2011). From the beginning, Robert stood out because of his extensive knowledge of ProVia products, window installation, and the industry as a whole. He took the time to answer my questions and explain my options, which gave me confidence that I was making the right decision. The installation itself presented an unexpected challenge when the crew discovered that my original windows had virtually no existing frame. They had to build new framing, which required additional lumber, but it was the right solution and not entirely unexpected given the age of my home. I was also impressed that the team completed the installation of my second-floor condo in under five hours without using scaffolding. They also went above and beyond by concealing some unattractive roof flashing that had always bothered me, which made a noticeable difference in the finished appearance. The final result looks fantastic. I've received numerous compliments from neighbors and even other contractors on both the style of the new windows and the quality of the installation. No project is without a few hiccups, and I did have a handful of post-installation issues. Shortly after installation, the secondary bottom lock on the sliding door would not engage, the screen needed adjustment, and the door required more effort than expected to close and lock. Robert personally came out, adjusted the sash and locking mechanism, and the door now glides effortlessly and locks exactly as it should. On another visit, Robert replaced a weatherstripping bulb seal on one of the casement windows that had been manufactured too long and wasn't sealing properly. He also cleaned adhesive residue that had been left on the exterior glass after installation. While the cleanup inside and around the work area was very good, the adhesive marks on the outside of a second-floor window were difficult for me to access, so I appreciated that he came out promptly to take care of them. Overall, my only suggestion would be a more thorough quality-control inspection immediately following installation. While I understand that new windows and doors may need minor adjustments after settling into the home, catching a few of these items before the project was considered complete could have eliminated a couple of return trips. What truly sets Window Door Pro apart is Robert's commitment to customer service. He stood behind his work, responded quickly to every concern, and made sure everything was corrected to my satisfaction. It's refreshing to work with a company that doesn't disappear after the installation. I would confidently recommend Window Door Pro to anyone looking for quality products backed by exceptional service. The only reason I did not give a five-star rating is because I believe a more thorough quality-control inspection immediately after installation could have identified and corrected these minor issues before they became service calls. That said, Robert's responsiveness and dedication to making everything right were exceptional, and I would not hesitate to recommend Window Door Pro to others.
