As a local, I appreciate good value within walking distance of home. Brigantine's happy hour has drinks and food items for $6 each. On my last visit, I spent $24 on the Happy Hour Menu before tax and tip. I enjoyed a generous bowl of chowder, three oysters on the half shell, a house salad which was surprisingly generous and tasty, and a local craft beer on draft. All while seated outdoors within a stone's throw of the Imperial Beach pier. There's a happy hour from 3 to 6 every day except Friday and Saturday. came on a weekday for lunch and it was pretty quiet. Only some guests around the bar so I picked a patio seat. The view was nice, got a little glimpse of the beach and the weather was nice. I ordered two oysters, one of each they had available at the time and their Macadamia Nut encrusted Mahi Mahi (w/ Chef's choice veggies and creamy risotto). Both were DELICIOUS! the oyster was fresh and sweet and the risotto was warm and cheesy and the fish was so nicely cooked. I am hungry again jus thinking about it.... I had just gotten back from a trip to TJ and still decided to order tacos! These Taco's (surf and turf) were considerably different than anything I had in Mexico. They were however awesome! A blend of shrimp and carne asada over slaw topped with cheese and some sauce. Real good! They were served with a mound of slaw that was also quite tasty. They had a nice selection of draft beers which was great. My wife had a margarita and she complained that it was way too sour and not enough sweet. She had to order a glass of orange juice to pour into it to bring it over the edge to the drinkable side for her. Needless to say the prices were not as good as Mexico but a decent value for the states. I would go back to the Brig, you should give them a shot! read more

I celebrated my birthday last year and I knew I had to come back again for a dinner reward and that dinner "blackened salmon" and "crispy Brussels sprouts" definitely melted into my heart! You guys have to try this plate! My son had kids plate and it was only $10 he picked Mac and cheese with fries plus $2 ice cream. Also the red wines they allowed me to have some tastings until I was satisfied with one which is my favorite and it's Trinitas- Napa Valley and I also ordered myself Caramel Brûlée only $10 And last night we had a reservation with them again for 4th of July and we got very lucky to have an outdoor table and perfect timing and I tried different menu- I got buffalo wings and MACADAMIA CRUSTED FRESH MAHI MAHI and my son got chicken tinders with fries and steamed veggies. The service were great and easy! They were able to accommodate me easily with learning some sign or write papers to communicate or easily allow me to read lips. I decided to stop by Saturday evening for an appetizer and a couple of drinks. The bartender, Cat, always has the best service and makes the best drinks. I got the maple spice manhattan and the artichoke fritters with a lemon aioli. Which were both very delicious. And then I asked for the server to ask Cat to make me her favorite drink, which was an old fashioned. So good! My server was very friendly and so was everyone else, as always. We're practically regulars here. One reason being that if you dine here on Wednesday night you get half off pretty much every wine bottle they have. A lot of the time we will get one togo for this reason because it's basically retail at that point. My fiancé always gets Napa Valley Nachos with chicken which are always so good. Wow! What a great and reasonably priced seafood restaurant right on the oceanfront. They have bike racks, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and easy takeout options. I came here for a quick bite and was pleasantly surprised at the large portion of fish, risotto, and veggies. Fish was crunchy on the outside and moist/flaky on the inside. Tasted very fresh. Risotto was extremely cheesy but tasty and veggies were super fresh. This came out quickly and with great presentation. I came back again to get the clam chowder and it was very delish. Creamy, full of corn and potatoes, and didn't taste fishy. Portion was perfect and it was easy to get it to go and sit on the beach watching the sunset. The food was fresh. Lobster shrimp fondue was amazing. Lobster taco was ok. Tasted more like shrimp. The black tortilla ended up falling apart by the time I got to the second one. Also, the oil used for the French fries had a strong taste and made the fries not so enjoyable. My fiancés plate was the surf and turf tacos. Wayyyyy better than my plate. He finished his whole plate. Cucumber jalapeño margarita was good but not so strong. My fiancés first beer was good but the warm cup made it not so cold. A bad experience. I was in the area on business and decided to stop in on a Wednesday evening. First i was up sold / convinced to get a bottle of wine even though i was solo. A bottle of Pinot Noir which came warm - Note to restaurant - red wine should generally be served slightly below room temperature, not "warm." . I ordered a blackened salmon and a small ceasar's salad starter. The food arrived and they stuck the salmon on top of the salad ? WTH ? I obviously sent his back and was informed the waitress was new. The salad and main course then came out separated but at exactly the same time 10 minutes later. Obviously it was the same food because the fish was now sitting in a pool of liquid and very little other vegetables that it lists on the menu. The salad was simply OK and the salmon overcooked, wet and not good - probably because it had been on and off a salad and/or reheated. The very large bill came without any offer to take anything off or any kind of discount whatsoever. I feel ripped off and had a not good experience. read more

Dinner with Dad- we were able to make it in early for happy hour, one of our favorites! The appetizers are $7 each for "small plates" but let me assure you it's plenty of food. Dad ordered 3 oysters on the half shell and for the first time the shrimp cocktail. He said the oysters were excellent and we were so impressed by the shrimp cocktail. 8 large tail on shrimp arranged so pretty on the plate, I ate one right away before I even took the photo! I ordered the bowl of clam shower and Cesar salad m which was huge. I could have easily had just the salad. We also split an order of calamari which was cooked perfect and paired with the famous jalapeño white sauce. At $7 a plate we were just under $40 for a quick dinner out and it was an amazing deal for the quality. It's worth mentioning on other occasions we've also had the Waygu sliders and they are superb as well. We always have excellent service here, quick refills and the food comes very fast. This time we sat inside but have sat on both sides of their patio with our dogs. The whole place feels very open and has a nice view of the pier. read more

The gluten free options are not actually gluten free. They told me that all corn tortillas are deep fried in the same oil as flour/wheat based products. As someone with a gluten allergy, the menu is inaccurate and I would not eat here if you have celiac. My non-celiac friends ordered food and were also extremely disappointment. The manager did come by after we sent our food back to check in on what was going on and admitted the fish tacos were over cooked. The surf and turf tacos were not flavorful and cheese was not melted. Brigg fish tacos don't say deep fried on the menu but they are deep fried. Attempted to eat and they were overcooked. Shrimp cocktail shrimp were over cooked and not edible. The manager did remove the food we sent back from the bill which is why I'm giving 2 stars versus 1 star. read more

We have never gone back. It is too long of a wait, crunched together and cost too much money to receive one plate that was presentable you could see the shrimp and veggies and the second that looked as if it had been put together by a child or maybe someone's cat. This has been our go to place since we are locals. Their happy hour is the best and cannot be beat. Their bar service is great. Kat and Esteban are the best bar tenders at the location. They always make you feel welcome and take care of you. Both of them are very attentive to you and make sure you are always taken care of. Came in for a casual dinner with a group of five friends at the start of a weekend trip after hearing good things about the tacos and seafood at this spot. Unfortunately we were left somewhat disappointed with the service and food itself. We were initially seated outdoors but due to being sort of chilly we asked to get moved inside. This was done no problem but the table we were seated at was half wiped (crumbs and sticky stains left over from another party) and it took a good 15 min for us to get silverware and plates - had to ask a few people walking by. Some of the plates also had some crumbs on them. The food was fine - my friend and I split the swordfish and surf and turf tacos. Swordfish were pretty good, but surf and turf wasn't as good - it wasn't served warm enough in my opinion and the melted cheese had hardened which was a strange mix with meat and shrimp. Another friend ordered the Buffalo chicken tacos and was served what was essentially just an entire breaded chicken breast on top of a tortilla and some sauce - wasn't cut, and wasn't served super warm. Update: I came back for another try at the Brigantine to see if there were any changes to my previous experience. I'm happy to say that the restaurant was clean, organized, and with a much better ambiance than the last time I was there. The service was excellent. All our drinks and food came out without issue. The server was very attentive to our needs and made sure we enjoyed each of our dishes and that we had received everything correctly. The only reason I am withholding one star is because the food could still be better. There is a new menu and unfortunately it just doesn't hold a candle to the old menu. The new recipes fall flat with sometimes too many flavors thrown into one dish or odd combinations like shrimp & grits or the snap peas with a NY Streak. I also suggest a fried shrimp dish without nuts. I'm a seafood enthusiast and the combinations on this menu are odd and some are frankly unappetizing. Of course that's just my personal opinion. That being said, the oysters were on point and my husband enjoyed his chocolate Creme brûlée as well as his ribeye steak. read more

Brigantine in Imperial Beach has such a great vibe and you simply can't beat the location. I am additionally very appreciative of how welcoming the staff is every time I visit. They sometimes greet me by name but always with a smile. The team also appears to enjoy each other's company which only adds to the good vibes. I really like their menu. They have a wide variety and the happy hour is top tier. The portion sizes are also quite remarkable to me. It's quite easy to get full, even on certain appetizers. That said I did encounter a few hiccups. In ordering a few happy hour drinks they were somewhat light on the liquor. This appeared to be a shared sentiment because the folks next to me at the bar expressed the same concern. Tho the staff was friendly, when they get busy things sometimes fall they the cracks. Example, my first visit I ordered the ribeye with a couple oysters. I didn't actually get the oysters. When I went to pay and noticed they were still on the check they wound up happily taking them off the bill. But not receiving an item ordered with the meal was a new experience for me. The calamari i tried on another visit was also somewhat on the bland side BUT the sliders were amazing and the oysters were so fresh. Overall I like the Brigantine a lot. The food was exquisite, per usual for brigs (all) but the service here at the IB brig was astounding. Our server Kat was absolutely fabulous, she heard me when I said I had a dairy allergy, and she worked hard to make sure I knew about all the sauces and options, what a goddess! The tacos we got for taco Tuesday were 10/10 all 5 of them. The beer is strong. You can see the ocean, even the buss lady was funny and sweet and accommodating. These people are the absolute BEST. The tables was right between the bar and the kitchen, so not perfect spot. But wasn't as bad. Entries and appetizers were great. Some options are made with bacon, so they were ok cooking them for us without bacon. Enjoyed the oysters, tacos, calamari, shrimp and salmon. Our waiter was very attentive and polite. The non-alcoholic drinks options are limited, which is usually the case, but they were ok making virgin cocktails. OMG, this is outrageous! We went there for lunch and ordered a couple Mai Tai cocktails ($14 each). These glasses were overflowing with ice (and no straw to even drink). We asked the waitress to remove the overflowing ice, which she did but it was still 90% ice in the "drink"! Pictures are worth a thousand words (see attached). First pic shows one of the glasses that were brought. Second pic shows the glass after drinking it. The waitress told us she could bring new drinks with less ice but at an additional charge! We spoke to the manager and left it up to her to decide how to handle it. She said that's the way the drinks are served. When we left we saw a credit on our bill, which was expected, but still not an excuse for trying to cheat customers! Straight and simple review . I could sit here and write a long paragraph but here are the straight details . Waited 20 minutes just to get waiter to come over to our table for waters . My husbands Ahi Tuna meal was so overly seasoned with black pepper it left the delicate fish over powered. The jasmine rice was over cooked or reheated because it had a hard texture to it .
