Terrace Creek Park - Tee pad #4 for the disc golf course

    Terrace Creek Park

I debated between giving this park 4 or 5 stars because there are sometimes shady characters and/or…read moreheavy smokers (both cigarettes and marijuana) hanging out at this park. Also, the frisbee golf set-up overlaps oddly with the field and the small sidewalk track. However, there is much to appreciate about this little park. I love the north area with a natural brook and abundant natural plant life. Few parks of this small size have such a delightful untamed area to explore. The area with the swing set and slides has been updated/re-painted fairly recently, and kids seem to really enjoy playing there. There is a net to climb in/on, and a few sturdy connected platforms from which to access the tops of the slides. Most people at this park have been super friendly and sweet to my husband and I. The play field is rarely in use, other than a few frisbee golfers and/or dog-walkers moving through very small areas of it. My husband and I have always found a spot on the field to play badminton in decent weather. There are several benches placed all around this park. It can be nice to sit on a bench and chat quietly. I've noticed quite a few couples doing this, and my husband and I have done this too. The parking lot is fairly small but there is ample street parking so parking has never been a problem. You can see your car from almost anywhere you are in the park and that is a very good thing as it's probably a good idea to keep an eye on it. There are so many pretty trees all around this park. Most of the time the vibe is very peaceful and relaxing.

Scriber Lake Park - View from the dock

Wow those negative reviews in the past would have scared me away! I'm glad to say that when I…read morevisited there were no issues with creepy people. Instead, there were a lot of people walking their dogs, couples getting some steps in, and even a family fishing at the lake off the pier. It seems you can catch largemouth bass and yellow perch. I felt pretty safe. There's a small paved parking lot with a bathroom before you enter the park. I didn't use the bathroom so can't say much about it. No graffiti as far as I noticed. There's also a picnic table and several benches around. Do note that this park is under renovations - the eastern third and the section where the Scriber Creek Trail runs through are now closed and there's a chain link fence with no tresspassing signs posted. One thing that is sort of unique is that they have a floating boardwalk on the lake/marshy areas which is pretty cool.

It is a fun place to explore, the trails were well maintained and one of the days I visited recently (on 19 June 2020) there were workers working on the trail near the big lake. I have seen a variety of wildlife here including bunnies, frogs/toads, crows, Herons, red-winged blackbirds, Cedar Waxwings, Belted Kingfishers, fish swimming in the water, Red Robins, gray squirrels, and other various birds. I even managed to see a Heron catch a big fish and fly off with it one time! On a second recent visit on 24 June 2020 amphibians stole the show. There is a second smaller lake accessible by the trail system that is closer to 196th Street. It has a sign explaining where the brown color of the lake comes from and what is causing the bubbles coming to the surface of the lakes. Noise from the nearby street carries into the park, though I found myself readjusting to tune it out so it didn't detract from the experience. There is a restroom building and picnic tables near the driving entrance/parking lots as well as benches dispersed throughout the park. In my experience the restrooms were spotless and very well maintained. This is a fun park to come walking and sit/stand and wait and enjoy the wildlife in and around Scriber Lake.
