My favorite gas station. I'll ride on fumes to fill up there. Prices are reasonable and Steve and his dad are just wonderful as are all the people who work there. I get a little history lesson as they've been pumping gas there since 1948 and I love that they actually give you full service with conversation and a smile. And, tho I rarely pay the full service price, even that is cheaper than most stations. Car repair service is wonderful too and if they think I should go somewhere for a better value (like getting tires at Costco) they'll recommend that. read more

Friendly service and quick help! After moving up here, I was informed that my brake light was out. Yay...So, being a bum, I decided to go here because it was close (it did have some awesome reviews, though). I told them my problem and right then and there, they fixed my light and charged me $10 for everything. It's kind of hard to get them to take my money. I've brought my cars there for a couple of years now and on several occasions it ends with, "it was easy to fix, no charge". This is after getting it up on the rack and spending some time figuring out what was wrong. Really honest and fair people. And the work is always great. Bridgeway Auto Service at Ashby and Claremont Avenues is simply the best. I had what I believed was a battery problem with my car, which they checked on, kept the car overnight and investigated, and didn't even charge me when it turned out to be nothing. The fellows that run Bridgeway are hardworking, competent and honest. You can't ask anything more of your auto mechanics. Steve and Jeff are the best! Great place - friendly service. I like patronizing a local, family owned business (they pump the gas for you, for cryin out loud!) I switched to them from Stauder on College (also a great place) because Brideway is cheaper and closer to my house. Haven't had anything too complicated done - oil change, replace brakes, so can't comment on anything but what I've had experience with. They did help me with a leaky air conditioning coolant anti-freeze thingee without much hassle, i.e. we tried something, it didn't work, i came back, they fixed it, added more air-conditioning freon stuff without double charging me - i appreciated that. Felt taken care of and not ripped off. That's all I ask for, really. Oh, and they give my dog the biggest biscuits in the world - she gets excited just driving by the place now! read more

Nice guys, easy to talk to, good work! They Never overcharge and make everything clear concerning what you need and when. Good location and when you need a referral for something they can't do, they are always honest about what they know & don't know about the competition. I brought my car in for an estimate and told the repair would be $400. The next day the owner said it was $500 and when I asked what happened he said he forgot the alignment. The car needed a new wheelbearing which I just had done at another shop for $200. Bridgeway also replaced a belt for $100 that did not need replaeing. Good luck! read more

I originally read the high ratings about Bridgeway Service on Ashby at Claremont in the "Bay Area Consumers' Checkbook". We've taken our cars there for 15+ years(?). Steve Carvalho and Jeff and crew kept my '88 Nissan Pathfinder going long after they said I should get rid of it (finally "sold" it to the state w/ about 300k miles Jan. 2013). I asked them if they had any customers who had a 4WD, pref. Toy. or Honda, in good condition for sale, and at the moment, they had a 2005 CRV stored in the back for customers who had wanted to buy a MiniCooper. They passed along the owners phone number and I bought the SUV that Bridgeway had been servicing. Pretty good buying a used car when your mechanics already know its history! They didn't even charge the former owners a storage fee or a "broker's fee" VBG. When we inadvertently "cooked" the engine on a Volvo 850 and had it towed to Bridgeway, they looked at it, consulted with Volvo specialists, and advised us to junk it rather than to replace the engine - even though they would have made money. They are honest, more-than-fair and flexible - I just called late in the day to see if I could get appointments for our two vehicles for tomorrow and for Friday. I fully expected to be told next week! We live in the Glenview neighborhood of Oakland, and its worth it to juggle our schedules and morning commutes to get our cars to Bridgeway Service! read more

Hard not to love these guys. We've gone to them on and off for years, through multiple cars and they have always been speedy and very fair and honest. Most recently our Jeep crapped out and they spent four days, and multiple solutions, including bringing in a specialist,, trying to figure out the problem. Their best guess is not something we care to fix, but that is only because of their honesty. I'm the typical female who knows nothing about cars, but I do know honesty and straight talk when I come across them. I've been a customer of Bridgeway since the dinosaurs roamed the earth. Since the early 90s at least. Bridgeway's name got stellar marks in a publication (Checkbook) that lists the cream of the crop services in the Bay Area, voted by Bay Area residents themselves. The longevity of the two cars I've had over the past 20 years can be directly attributed to the excellent, understated care provided by Steve and Jeff. I was so impressed with the approach to my concern about my brakes on a newly purchased used car.
