He's nice and patient, reviewing all the tire options over the phone and explaining tire specs jargon if you don't understand. Once I had a low tire pressure light for weeks that I couldn't figure out the cause. Bill asked me to bring my car in and they checked all the tires, tried to reset the sensors, and just when we were about to give up, they discovered it was the spare tire in the trunk that was the issue. My Kia Sorento was just at the dealer for 50k mi service. They found a screw in one tire but couldn't do the repair so I called Auto Options, where I bought the tires. They gave me a 930am appointment 2 days later. Fortunately the tire didn't seem to be leaking major air so I waited for the appt. 10 minutes in, the mechanic (didn't get his name) walked out and told me there was no leak! The screw was only a fifth of a screw so it didn't penetrate the tire: no leak, no repair needed!! Music to my ears!! I was not charged anything. Auto Options earned a barrel full of good will today. I just got a set of rear tires for my car and did a 4 wheel alignment. Review for tires: 4 stars... They do their best to get you close to tire rack prices. I had a list of tires I wanted and they got me quotes for everyone of them. They weren't pushy at all and gave me their honest opinions on each tire I was considering. All the quotes were roughly $20-30 more than if I went with tire rack. Oddly enough, they gave a better price on the super expensive and new Michenlin Pilot A/S 3. They would be totally okay if I ordered from tire rack and had it delivered there but I was pressed for time since my old tires were down to the nylons. Review for alignment: 5 stars! This place is awesome. My car is very hard to align. Its lowered on coilovers with many other aftermarket suspension pieces. I've had a horrible time finding a good alignment shop that's capable of getting my car close to oem spec. I used to go to custom alignment out in the penisula but they're expensive and the last time I took my car there, they said there were parts of my rear suspension that was bent and they would only work on it if I got the pieces replaced. Long story short, I've been eating through rear tires b/c my alignment's been so off. read more

I ordered four tires and had them delivered to the Auto Options shop and dropped off my car for a tire change and a wheel alignment. I came back two and a half hours later and had decent impressions: Bill had prepared a visual with technical calculations showing how my car alignment was prior to their intervention, and how it was afterwards. When I dropped the car off, I had told him I had been getting disproportionate wear on some of my tires and he highlighted an area on the printed visual which he thought might be the problem area. He said something was likely bent in the suspension. He then pointed out another diagram, detailing the parts of a suspension. He circled two components and said that speaking from experience it's likely one of these two parts which were damaged in my suspension. He said he would have to take apart the suspension to know exactly but that these were his first guesses. He told me the prices of each part and responded to several questions I had when I was evaluating the cost-effectiveness of replacing them. I told him I'd think about it and left. Up until then I was impressed and felt happy about the attention and service I had gotten. However, a little later all those good feelings went away when I realized I was missing a lot of money. In a discreet place of my car, I had hidden some emergency cash and it was all gone. After figuring this out, I went back to Bill and asked him whether his workers who worked on my car had found the money, whether they had moved it or whether they could've been misinterpreted it as a tip. Bill went to go ask them and came back to tell me that he's confident none of his workers would've done anything to it. I'm certain, the money was there when I dropped off the car, and it was gone when I came back. There is a portion of time when the car was out in their parking lot while it was under their watch, but there are no signs that my car was broken into. I don't have video evidence of what happened in the shop, but the equation has solved itself for me. Once again, this emergency stash was genuinely hidden, it's not something that was mistakenly on the floor, it's something that would've needed to be looked for. I initially wanted to come back to the shop to get my suspension part fixed but I will not be coming back to do business here. I am extremely upset and sad. In all my car check-ups in the past, I've never had a problem. EDIT: After my review, Bill reached out to me and told me he wanted to take responsibility for the money that went missing from the car while it was under their watch. He refunded me $100 of the $165 that went missing......... EDIT: Fast forward 2 months about 1300 miles later, I have the most traumatizing experience when my tie rod end popped out and my steering stopped responding. Please look at the attached photos (both of my wheels were facing each other). I call AAA and get towed to Art's Automotive (shop in Berkeley with the most 5 star reviews) and after their assessment, two of their mechanics tell me that this happened not because of worn-out parts but because the necessary bolts had not been properly fastened in my last alignment. How does that happen!!!!!!!!!!!!! Moreover, the mechanics at Art's confirmed that no part of my suspension was actually broken/ needed replacement as Bill had pointed out in his assessment a couple of months before. Auto Options put my life and the ones of others at risk. Had my tie rod end popped out on the highway instead of my apartment driveway, my non-steerable car could've been an extreme safety hazard to myself as well as many other drivers on the road. I had to pay for repairs for the tie rod, get a new alignment (way before an alignment is typically needed) and buy two new tires which were ruined from improper wear because of the poor installation / alignment job done at Auto Options. In a nutshell, this cost me an extra $1000 + the extreme inconvenience of having my car out of commission for two days all because they didn't fasten bolts properly! Unacceptable! I contacted Bill by email on July 27th shortly after this happened and included the attached photos but never heard from him. This place scammed me. read more

Nutshell: the tire that needed attention was a modern radial mounted to a vintage (1937 Oldsmobile) rim. It was flat. It also had a tube. Yes, the modern radial is a "tubeless" tire, but the pre-1955 rims need tubes. For that matter, poking a pencil into the hole of the rim where the valve should have been, but wasn't, made it pretty clear that something was inside the tire that wasn't Jimmy Effing Hoffa. So, basic inspection of the tire and repair or replacement of the tube were in order. Pretty basic, right? Wrong! The first two tire shops I went to, similarly staffed by thick-browed simian anthropoids scratching their nether regions and wielding impact wrenches, gave me the same line: "This is a tubeless tire" (no sh*t, Sherlock, it's embossed on the damned sidewall) and "We can't work on it--it's over six years old and state law doesn't allow it" (veriest piffle, poppycock, and outright bulldinkie, as there is no such law). On the recommendation of one of many car head friends, I brought the tire to Auto Options. The first thing that you'll notice is that it a pretty tidy shop and you can see the bit of the bays where the work is going on. Both good signs. Next good sign--the guy who will meet you at the counter is Bill, an easygoing, affable guy who--Lord be praised--knows what he's doing and can comprehend Standard English. He took a quick look at the tire, noted that it wasn't new, that an eventual replacement would be a good idea (and I agree since the tires look a little too hot-Roddy for a car that looks otherwise bone-stock), and told me he'd get the tire off the rim, inspect everything, and if they could fix it, they would. Fast forward about a week. I got a phone call. The tire was ready and had a new tube in it. I want to pick it up. It was cleaned up, inflated and bounced like a superball. Bill not only rolled the thing out to the trunk of my other car (an aging, unassuming, yet eminently reliable old PT Cruiser), he made a gift of the old tube. Dry rot? The thing was so shredded it looked like a black rubber hula skirt in the shape of a torus. And it gave me a quick Come-to-Jesus about getting the other three tires off the car and over to Auto Options for a thorough inspection. The last thing I want is to be fused into a mass of very old metal, glass, and rubber on the 580, and if any of the other tubes are showing similar signs of desiccation, that could very well have been my fate. So to sum it up: the service is knowledgeable, the work spot on, the customer service impeccable. They take tires seriously. And that means they take something else pretty seriously, too--your safety. And the kicker: The whole transaction cost me a measly $45.00--two dollars and eighteen cents more than I spent on a tank of gas earlier in the day. Too bad you can't give a sixth star on Yelp. I absolutely love this place. I am a wreck whenever anything goes wrong with my car. I go straight to panic mode. Auto Options has pulled nails, bolts, and screws out of my tires. They have added air to my tires when my tire gauge melted in my car and three gas stations had the air thingy missing or broken. I was convinced that I had something in my tire which is why it was low. I made an appointment- and it turns out my tires had lost normal air pressure. I appreciate that they didn't make me feel dumb and didn't charge me. I need new tires and booked with them. They are trustworthy and honest. Highly recommended! read more

These guys have no idea what they're doing. It took them 2+ hours on the rack to align my Jetta. They told me there was a problem and that I needed to pay $40 to put in a camber bolt, which is a ghetto way of fixing camber problems or adding camber beyond factory specifications. I ended up paying $100 out the door and waited oh so long one saturday morning. They didn't even get the alignment straight, it was pulling to the left really hard and they didn't even center the steering wheel to compensate. They said the car was old and bent that's why they couldn't do it. A few months later I took it to my usual shop in SF, "Alignment and Suspension". My guy pulled out the $40 "camber bolt" and it was just an old 11mm bolt from their bucket that they stuck into the 13mm hole to give them more wiggle room. This practice is not particularly dangerous, but as soon as you hit a pothole your alignment will go back out. My usual shop only charged me $45 and had the thing done in less than an hour, and the alignment is dead on. I'm not sure how this shop stays in business. read more

Took my X5 to have new tires installed in October. After noticing a vibration develop a few weeks later I took it to Bavarian Professionals thinking a suspension component had failed. It turns out that every wheel was severely out of balance. On top of that the rear wheels were over torqued so bad they broke a lug screw getting them off. Bill offered a $60 credit towards a future service but I'm out another $165 to have Bav Professionals fix the problem. read more

These folks get it right, give good advice, are so great to deal with. I had a slow leak and first went to the larger auto/truck tire place on Gilman St. While i had been told to come right in and they'd take care of it on the spot, get there and the main guy is barking at his employees, sandwich hangin out of his mouth, and then i'm told i can leave the car and come back at 5. Nice. I come up the street, pull into these guys, and its done in 30 min. Due to an unfortunate series of tire occurences, my Passat needed two new tires, so i called around, and while you could pay less and deal with Costco, these folks were $100 less than my regular VW repair shop for two tires, mount, balance and align. Plus, they've got the latest alignment machines/software, so the printout was crisp ad informative and the feel of the ride was spot on. As it woiuld happen, i had my third incident shortly thereafter with a flat in one of the other two Passat tires. Bill fixed it for free and had me out of there quickly. I'm really thankful that a local business like this still exists and i'm happy to give them my business. read more

Dropped off my car for a basic alignment at 2pm. Was told that the car would be done on the same day "by 4pm- at the LATEST!". I arrive at 4pm to pick up the car. I'm dismissed and told that it will now be 4:30pm. Fine. I go to Chipotle across the street for a bite. 5:15pm rolls around... 5:30pm. Can I please get my car and get the heck out of here?? Came in today to get a tire patched up. Bill was mellow and said no issue. He quoted the amount and time. Came back and the tire was repaired exactly on time and as originally quoted. Great service and no sales pitch. The tire ended up having two nails and price did not increase. I will be buying my set of tires from this guy next time. So I never got a call from Bill. But I had to go back into the store because the weights used to balance my wheels had come off after only 2 weeks. I needed to have the wheels balanced again. He got me in immediately and did the job. Hopefully it lasts. When I went in he said he was still looking for a solution for my wheels for the issue I mentioned in my prior post. Although I question his sincerity in regards to calling me or even looking for a solution, I raised my review by a star because he apologized as I was leaving and finally mentioned the free rotations. There's so many good reviews of this place, I don't understand how after I spent thousands of dollars at his store he would treat me with such bad customer service. I just don't get it. I went in for advice on new tires for my Volvo XC70. The tires I had previously were better than the OEM, and they suggested a new tire, Michelin Defender. They fitted them to my original Volvo wheels, inc. repairing 2 damaged wheels for $20 each, and fitted the best old tire to one of the spare rims. Balanced with the weights on the in- side of the rim, rather than the edge like most and did a realignment. The work is excellent, the advice was spot on for my driving style and conditions, and all this for almost the same price as Costco (who don't align). IMPRESSED. (They are not fast workers, so build that expectation in, but the work is excellent.) I have done 3,000 miles since so I know that what they did is right. read more

After reading the Yelp reviews, I brought my 1967 Cougar in for an alignment. This car has been a project of mine for 13 years (on and off). When it comes to my car, I am really picky. I wanted to bring it somewhere that was familiar with classic cars, didn't mind working with my custom suspension and would set the alignment to my specifications. These guys fit the bill. The alignment was a little bit pricier for my older car than Sears and Big O, but once I drove my car after taking it here, I wouldn't take it anywhere else.
