I called in to see if they could help me out with my side mirror's light plastic covering cause I did the dumb thing where I cut too close to my garage. The person helping me, Carlos, said that he'd have to change the entire side mirror out and it'd be expensive. I appreciated the honesty and opted to get my oil changed, which has been long overdue. Two qualities that are in short supply with my mechanics, including the last one. Had a worrisome rattling sound on that was getting louder by the day. Will saw me on short notice and a few hours later ... boom. Out the door for $50 and a damaged exhaust cage replaced. It's easy to get taken advantage by mechanics. These guys don't do it. We picked up a nail in our left rear tire (checked the TPMS last night after hitting a pothole and saw a minor differential in tire pressure; when we parked back at the hotel we saw the nail in the tire) and was hoping to get a quick repair as we have a busy day today and will be driving home tomorrow. We showed up early to get first in line and arrived just as they were opening the gate. They were able to see to the repair right away and it took about 10 minutes. They checked and adjusted the tire pressure on all four tires as well. All for $35. Very friendly people all around. TL;DR - get multiple opinions before taking your car here; they tried to scam me out of $1500 when it absolutely wasn't needed here's the facts. i went to this shop to replace 4 of my TMPS sensors (tire pressure monitoring system) and also do an oil change. i picked up my car at closing (5pm) and when i was driving home, i noticed a squeaking sound from my front driver wheel that i did not have before taking it here. it was a friday at close when i picked up my car so i planned to return the following business day. they ended up calling me the next business day anyway because they forgot to give me back my wheel lock so i took it back and let them know about the squeaking sound. they asked if i hit any potholes since and i said no. they inspected it and then recommended that i replace the steering knuckle and the wheel bearing hub - in total, $1500 for labor and parts. they also recommended that i don't drive on the car as it's dangerous to do so without getting this fixed. i decided to get some other opinions and i'm so glad i did. i took my car to another shop and they immediately diagnosed the problem. when Berkeley Auto Care replaced my TMPS sensors, they took off my tires to do so. because i have different sized tires for the front & back...they ended up putting the back tire (larger size) where the front should be and that was the cause of the squeaking sound. there was no need to replace my steering knuckle and wheel bearing - i asked twice for confirmation. honestly, i don't know if this was a genuine mistake or if they're just incompetent, but the mechanic seemed to think they were trying to pull a fast one on me or make a quick money grab by charging me for some expensive parts they marked up and then just doing the tire swapperoo to eliminate the sound and call it a day. jury's still out on that. the alternative is that they're inept...whatever the reason, i will say that this event left a sour taste in my mouth. they're close to the campus so they probably have a good amount of business from unsuspecting students who don't know any better but i would recommend you get a second opinion ALWAYS. read more

Responsive to business. Had issues with starting up a car and was quoted $150 for a diagnosis. The follow up for work was a simple cleaning of a battery terminal, a $75 job. This blew my mind especially after the conversation described scenarios where the terminal lead and wiring could be needing replacement. I called Joe's tires first and asked for one used tire and gave me 3 options of which all of them costs over $200 each. The true definition of what it means to "skrt skrt!". I had a flat tire and went to get it fixed. The guy checked out my tire, I signed some papers, and left the auto shop. While I was waiting, I went to buffalo exchange to check out some clothes. Then I went to 7/11 and bought a nice hot dog. The next thing I know, they give me a call and my car was fixed. I brought my car in for some repairs. They told me that they needed to hold it for a few days. I asked how long because I needed my car for work. The mechanic told me that as long as I didn't drive that far, I could continue to drive it until they got the parts. He then told me to drop my car off in two days before the shop opened. He said that way they could work on my car right away and even have it done on the same day. I was kind of suprised that they didn't try to keep it and charge me a storage fee. The mechanic also pointed out that my tires were going bad. But he didn't try to make me fork over additional money to replace them. All he told me was that I would need someone to replace them in a few months. It's now been a year and I've had zero problems with my car. So I'm giving these people 5 stars not trying to gouge as much money as possible from me. read more

So I unfortunately picked up a nail in my tire. Since I was in South Berkeley, I quickly Yelped the closest tire repair shop. Berkeley Auto Care was less than a mile away so I headed over. The service here was excellent! They immediately started to work on my tire even though it seemed like they were pretty busy. I went across the street to eat lunch and before I was even finished, they called me on my cell phone to let me know it was done. Everyone working here was really nice and professional. I brought my car in for a standard oil & filter change with tire rotation, plus brake fluid exchange. The prices offered were very reasonable. While the car was at the shop, I got a call to ask if I wanted to replace the cabin air filter. "Here we go," I thought. Then I researched how often a cabin air filter should be changed on my car, and saw that I was way past that milestone, and in fact that filter had never been replaced on the car. I was grateful to get the suggestion and gave them the greenlight. Last Friday I was planning a day-long road trip and realized that one of my headlights was out. I called them a little past 9am and the whole thing was done by 10am. They're batting 2 out of 2 so far. Very conscientious, polite, and professional. read more
