Good ol fashion mechanics! Dropped off my car at 9am. Lots of things to walk to while you wait. They have changed my oil a few times now.

I love bringing my car here. These guys are so honest and upfront. I recently had an oil change place tell me that my rear brakes were dangerous and needed immediate replacement and that my car might need transmission work and a bunch of other stuff. I brought it in to Bridgeway for a second opinion and they said that other dude was full of BS. AND they figured out why my tire pressure light was on even though I had all the tires checked. It was the spare tire. Probably should have thought of that myself but it's great to have Bridgeway to go to! Highly recommended. They've been servicing my family's cars for decades. read more

I've always been treated with true kindness there. When I asked for assistance with something I was unsure about, I got help. They have checked tire pressure for me, and put air in my tires -- not something they asked me to pay for. I just had my car serviced there, and once again feel I was well taken care of, and so was my car. I trust these people, and would recommend them to a friend. I've visited them as often as possible for gas, over the years, because I like supporting independent, family owned businesses, like this one. I see the same faces there year after year, and hope they manage to hang in for more years to come. read more

We have an old car and appreciated Bridgeway owner and mechanic advice on how preserve the engine instead of other services that just add cost and services we may not need. Also they are helpful to other car owners that need diagnostic help fir a current problem. They care and still provide personal customer service! read more

This is a super sweet family owned establishment. The owner came out and personally pumped our car for us so we wouldn't have to touch it ourselves. Protecting not just us but others as well. Very rare customer service these days. read more

Bridgeway Service - The owner pumping so we wouldn't have to touch the pump during this time. - Gas Stations Near Me - Berkeley, California

I love coming to this place I'm from Berkeley went to all Berkeley schools I went to John Muir elementary school and I used to hang out at the Pete's coffee and play tennis at Claremont Hotel I have been knowing Steve for a very long time don't really talk to him much before but now that I'm back in the area living in Berkeley again I swing by and get my gas from him all the time this is a family business it has been in the family for a very long time that's what I love about this place you get great service whether you need gas or you need to fix your brakes or change your oil in your car read more

Good, old-fashioned customer service. Been filling up at this local gas station for four years now, and always enjoy a pleasant chat with the owner while he pumps the gas for me. Others I know in the area use Bridgeway too. It's a neighborhood gem. read more

I got gas here this week and it's the first time I have ever not filled my own gas! I felt like I was in New Jersey!! The tenant came out to fill the gas for me, despite me offering to do it myself. I then realized there are no credit card readers at the pumps and this is probably how they avoid people stealing gas. It's an old fashioned pump, but very good service and the prices were comparable to elsewhere. read more

Love getting gas here. I am a senior citizen and often have my semi feral cat in the car. What a pleasure to have a cheerful person pump my gas. read more

They pump the gas for you and do it with a smile. For me that is as good as it gets

The most trustworthy mechanic around. They really now cars and have been around a long time. The only place we take our cars.

The old men who work here are some of the nicest and sweetest men that you'll ever meet. While their official full service lane appears to be closed, I have never once had to put my own gas in one of the self-serve lanes. They pump gas in a totally non-obtrusive way and I sincerely appreciate the old school service. Let's support our local businesses! read more

I've been a fan of Bridgeway since I first stopped in in 1978 with a car problem. Steve and Jeff are knowledgeable, personable, practical and honest-- if your car doesn't need it, they don't recommend it! My entire family are fans and I highly recommend them! read more

The guys at Bridgeway have always been very helpful. I haven't had work done on my car, but I've just gone there and asked for tires or oil to be checked. I appreciate that there's this one (and only) place where I can get this kind of service. read more

After living in the Bay Area for 11 years, I've run into lots of people who half ass their jobs and charge top dollar. Not these guys. Honest, hard working, reasonably priced. This is the service shop of my dreams. read more

I wish I could give this place zero stars. Absolute worst experience I've ever had with a car in 12+ years of ownership. I was charged 300.00 for an oil change, battery, and wiper blades. I have a vw. This price alone demands questions be answered prior to service. They did not ask for approval before this outrageously overpriced service. They then charged 50 in labor to put in the battery. Then 75 for the oil change, plus more miscellaneous expenses. When I asked why it was so expensive, I was treated with patronizing rebuttals. I will NEVER go here again after this disgusting show of lack of professionalism and I highly suggest neither do you, fellow helpers, unless you want to throw good money away. read more

I'd send my Mom here. This is a message to all the people out there who don't know much about cars and are cynically cautious of mechanics: go see Steve and Jeff at Bridgeway. Right at the corner of Claremont and Ashby, this place is the ONLY place to go. Super friendly, super honest. On more than one occassion they have quickly fixed this or that, smiled and said "no charge, get outta here". They do not rip you off, they know what they are doing and they are warm and friendly. If you spend more than five minutes there you will see the regulars come in for a fill up and a chat. It is Mayberry in Berkeley. Support these kinds of people! read more

As others have said, this is a family business, been around for years, and Steve, Jeff, and all the staff are easy to talk to, reliable, and trustworthy. I don't know a lot about cars, but am never talked down to in any way and never pushed to do anything pricey. In fact, my entire family has been going to Steve for years and we all have good things to say. And the gas might not be as cheap as the Arco, but it's only going to cost a tiny bit more to support an independent business. read more

Only $10 bucks to change a tire! These guys don't rip you off. read more

Bridgeway is a family owned local business that is integrated into the fabric of the Berkeley/ Oakland neighborhood it's been part of for quite some time. Steve and his technicians provide a level of service that is unseen these days. They service most cars and will do so honestly, in a timely manner, and for a reasonable cost. Bridgeway Service has taken good care of all of our vehicles. I've referred many friends and colleagues to them and they've sang their praises! We just added another new vehicle to our family and once the service contract from the dealer expires it'll be headed to Bridgeway. If you live locally or even within towing distance (yes, I've had cars towed in) I would not hesitate contacting Bridgeway Service. read more

These guys are helpful, honest and straightforward. Reliably honest and do NOT overcharge for services. My car has been brought here on many occasions where there is a small fix at hand, or one that seems like a big fix (but in reality isn't) and each time they have taken care of me with little or no charge - being extremely informative about what's going on with my car, generous in their quick fixes and generally kind. I will always bring business to them, and I will start getting my gas here just to support them (as I do know of a more distant cheaper gas place). This is the reward to running an auto business with integrity - you want to do right by them, as they have done right by you. - Other businesses in this arena could stand to learn from Bridgeway. read more

Honest, fair estimates. The folks that run this business are very pleasant to deal with.

Every time I come here excellent service and the owner is always telling me the best way to save money. That never happens and especially as a single female. Thank you Bridgeway read more

Came here to replace a broken radiator + radiator tubes after my engine started spewing antifreeze fumes. The guys here are very prompt, efficient, and respectful of your time. I dropped my car off around 8 in the morning and picked it up at 3 in the afternoon. I was charged exactly the amount they quoted me for. read more

When the check tire pressure light on my Subaru Forrester went on, I didn't know what to do. The local gas stations did not sell tire gauges and certainly don't offer any kind of advice or service. I called Bridgeway and told them about the problem, they told me to come in at 1:30 PM and someone would help me. When I got there, two servicemen helped me by measuring the pressure in my tires and filling all four. I was good to go and not charged a cent! These guys are the best! read more

I called early morning and asked if someone could change out my brake light. The guy just said sure, bring it in (I had already purchased bulbs for rear brake light and trunk brake light but couldn't do it myself). When I got the guy on phone was telling customer only one mechanic was really backed up. But the mechanic stopped what he was doing, checked my car and the bulbs, got his tools and changed both bulbs on the spot. Took about ten minutes to dissemble the light frames. I could t be happier with their professional attentive service! Also, they don't charge for air and only to fill service fillup! Very welcome throwback! read more

Great customer service!! It's a self-serve gas station, but the owner pumps your gas for you so you don't have to touch the pump! It's rare to see such generosity these days. read more

I heart Bridgeway Service and have been a customer for about 10 years now. Steve is a great guy, his "staff" (AKA family in many cases) are super sweet and I always feel like he'll do his level best to fix my car without taking my life savings (something I have NEVER been able to say about a dealership!). Yes they can be a tad forgetful on the details (callbacks and such), yes they are very much a family business and yes their service isn't so snappy it'll make your head spin - but I don't necessarily want cold efficiency when it comes to my ride. I want a guy like Steve who'll tell it to me straight and try to help me as inexpensively as possible. It's a small town neighborly place in a big city. Hard to find that sort of atmosphere these days... read more

I would never go anywhere else to have my car serviced. The two gentlemen who run this station are truly of the old school -- honest, forthright, and completely reliable regarding charges and what needs to be done. You will get honest and forthright advice as to what is best to do with your car. Honesty is the best thing about Bridgeway. I trust the advice of these gentlemen. They have been around the car business many years, and they speak from a lot of experience. I must reiterate what others have said: These gentlemen as some of the most honest, reliable, and sweetest men you will ever meet. I always go there to get gas and I want to keep them in business forever. read more

As a young lady who knows nothing about cars, I am always worried that I am going to get ripped off when I take my car to the shop. That is definitely not something you have to worry about at Bridgeway. Not only are their prices extremely reasonable, but they are happy to explain any work they've done. I wouldn't trust my car with anyone else. read more

I called this morning to see if someone could help me put air in my tires and I was told to come on by. Twenty minutes later I stopped in, received immediate, courteous and helpful service, and was not charged a cent for the help with my tires! Truly appreciate it! read more

Wonderful service. They have taken good care of the neighborhood and the commuters for years. I wouldn't go anywhere else.

The handle for my manual transmission became loose somehow (maybe when my stereo was put in), and Jeff took a look at it and fixed it within 20 minutes. No charge. Thanks guys! read more

My parents have been taking their cars to Bridgeway since the 1970s and they have always done a great job. They have taken care of my cars since the early 90's. The owner, Steve is a great guy and you can always be certain that he will not only be honest, but will also help you keep your costs down. As an added bonus, they know everyone in the neighborhood, and if you are thinking about selling your car (or buying a used car) just mention it to Steve and he often knows someone that is buying or selling. read more

Steve, his mom, his pops, and a small coterie of familiar, avuncular mechanics run this place with consistency, honesty and real genuine warmth. They don't make garages like this any more - local family-owned & operated, forthright, and extremely friendly. Highly recommended! read more

Wonderful little gas and auto service shop here in the Elmwood of Berkeley. This shop is owned and run by the second generational owner. Wonderful people work here. All of the staff are friendly and honest guys. If you don't know anything about cars, don't worry because they won't charge you for things that you don't need fixed. They are a dying breed of car mechanics who love people and the Berkeley community. The staff will go above and beyond to help get you car back on the road ASAP! Great service and great knowledge of auto motive. read more

Someone on my neighborhood listserv have recommended them. I called them to set up an appointment with them and Jeff said just come on by to see what needs to be done. They immediately came out and looked at the one problem and cleared it within 10 minutes. I asked them if they had time to replace a lightbulb in my front headlight and they said yes so I drove home and brought in the second car which they worked on immediately. They spent about a half an hour between the two cars and the total cost was $28.98. $5.00 was their labor cost. I have a nephew who's too far away to work on my cars, my long time mechanic retired and I was afraid I'd never find a replacement for them. I've found their replacements. I know that I can trust them to give me good advice about what work needs to be done on my car just like I could trust my nephew and my retired mechanic. Anna Maria read more

My favorite gas station. I'll ride on fumes to fill up there. Prices are reasonable and Steve and his dad are just wonderful as are all the people who work there. I get a little history lesson as they've been pumping gas there since 1948 and I love that they actually give you full service with conversation and a smile. And, tho I rarely pay the full service price, even that is cheaper than most stations. Car repair service is wonderful too and if they think I should go somewhere for a better value (like getting tires at Costco) they'll recommend that. read more

I got a recommendation from a friend, who got their recommendation from BPN. I am happy to continue the good review writing. An honest Auto shop with good prices is definitely 5 stars worthy. read more
