My partner and I just had the pleasure of staying at the Inn and the experience was luxurious. The decor was calming with a coastal feel creating the perfect escape. The bathtub was a large soaker that was great for taking my worries away. We enjoyed a yummy Bolognese sauce and a bottle of wine from their restaurant Grove. And I can't say enough about the attentive staff, especially Paula and Billie Sue. They were so kind and made sure we had everything we needed. This is great spot if you need a bit of respite and want to enjoy small town friendliness with a touch of indulgence. read more

The inn is a poorly executed wonderful idea. It easily could fill the need for an easily accessible comfortable luxurious place in the area. Every lodging option in nearby Newburyport minimally suffers from inadequate parking, which the Briar Barn has in abundance. This coulda been a contender additionally offers much better access to 95 and is closer to points of interest south of Newburyport. The most inexplicable flaw in this building that was built in roughly 2018 is that the climate-control system either is only heat or air-conditioning in a climate in which it the temperature during a shoulder season literally can be in the 30s (or lower) overnight and the 70s (or higher) during the day. Conversely, I do not recall even historic b and bs not having systems that allow switching between heat and air-conditioning year round. Additionally, the first floor rooms are very dark and subject you to hearing essentially every slight sound from the room above you. Even my highly tolerant significant other repeatedly called the front desk about high heels clicking on the upper floor during one stay. Having the spa, which easily could have been connected to the main building, in an entirely separate facility in an area that frequently experiences inclement weather further indicates the rookie mistakes made designing this place. The common comment that guests frequently plan on eating at the on-site restaurant, which also requires walking outside, only to learn that it is entirely closed for a private event further demonstrates the careless approach to this place. Both having a function room and providing better communication about not being able to eat there in this community that has very limited dining options within a 10-mile radius just makes sense. The bigger issue is this place catering to weddings while still offering itself to the general public. Many reviews have mentioned being unduly subject to even late-night noise related to wedding guests coming and going to events. It further seems that the staff is much more interested in wedding parties than those of us coming simply to enjoy the area. This lack of hospitality extends to doing nothing to appease a guest when things go wrong. One review that notes being put in a noisy room right off the lobby while a wedding party dominates the place comments on the goodwill value of a cheap bottle of wine. The first easy fix for the inn is piecemeal installing individual wall-mounted climate-control systems in each room. The next step is booking members of a large group on the first floor and putting those not part of a group on the second floor as far as possible from the group. The inn further should place tasteful signs around the inn asking guests to please be considerate of other guests, especially late at night. Thicker carpets and padding in the rooms also should abate noise nuisance. In the interim, booking an Airbnb that suits individual needs seems to be a better option than the Briar Barn. read more

Cannot say enough good things about the Briar Barn Inn! We spent a night here to celebrate our birthdays and were blown away with the hospitality, modern yet comfortable decor, and fine details. We were greeted with water and hot apple cider, offered complimentary umbrellas to shield us from the rain, and just loved the amenities the Inn had to offer. Our room had a comfy bed, warm fireplace, modern bathroom equipped with a tub and shower, and complimentary waters! I have to give this beautiful Inn five stars, even after a few glitches. Here's why: We are in our seventies, and hope for simple, convenient comforts, After an Easter with our kids and grandkids, we checked in about 7:00 pm. We had trouble with the TV, the ice maker, the fireplace and the mini-fridge (couldn't find it). The kind lady at the desk, Kathleen, tended to everything with such good cheer and courtesy. She fixed everything. Most of our problems would have been easily remedied if we were more tech capable (aka ...been twenty years younger!). But Kathleen tended to us beautifully. The restaurant was closed during our stay, but we knew that ahead of time. We had a nice bottle of wine, and a comfy bed. They also gave us a $100 discount to compensate our inconveniences, and a fifty dollar gift certificate to come back. We will assuredly go back. All in all, lovely. Had the worst stay here. We were so excited to get a night away from our two kids and catch up on some sleep, but it ended up being such a waste of money and we got no sleep. When we booked before the new year there was nothing on their website stating there would be a private event at the restaurant. When we realized there was an event it was too late to cancel our stay, so our plan to eat on site was out. We were bummed, but got over it. At check in they couldn't find our reservation for 5 mins, which was nerve wracking. Then they put our room the door closest to the lobby, which was SO loud after guests came back from the wedding and at 7am there were people yelling in the lobby. I knew it would be a problem and asked for a different room at check in. They wouldn't move our room and didn't care to understand the reasons why we were so disappointed by all these poor accommodations. Someone from the wedding party would have been much suited in that room. They did nothing to try to improve our stay. My gosh even a cheap bottle of wine would've been a nice gesture to apologize, but they truly did not care. Unless you have to stay here for a wedding save yourself the disappointment and stay somewhere like the Wentworth where they have amazing customer service and the rooms aren't paper thin. read more

I love the East Coast because of the awesome Inns, Bed n Breakfasts, as well as the hotels. While visiting friends in Newbury Port, we stayed here at The Briar Barn Inn. This property did not disappoint. The staff is attentive, the grounds and the Inn are extremely clean, and well kept and the rooms are extremely clean, comforting and love the vaulted ceilings! ( I loved this because I didn't feel like I was staying in a box!) The beds are comfy, loved the fireplace. Was surprised at the tub, and shower - which was really nice. ( I love baths! ) Ample towels, hairdryer, yummy smelling soap, lotion as well as shampoo/conditioner, and body wash. There are several nooks to find your special blend of coffee or tea in the Inn itself. The Grove restaurant was closed due to a wedding - but that was just fine! We made do. Your getaway will create a special place in your heart when you stay here. I did wish the windows had coverings that went with the shutters. ( I love it dark when I am sleeping). Not a big thing. There are several lounge areas with coffee makers throughout the inn. The space feels comfortable and very stylish. We ate at Grove, just a few steps away from our room. Stayed here for a night, had massage next door and ate at the Grove. Room: wonderful. Had the king suite with fireplace. Room was clean, large and very reasonably priced. Only slight down side was that the sound insulation between floors not the best, so did hear some noise from unit above. LOVE the soaking tub with complimentary bath salts, and the colonial decor. Very tasteful and spacious. Bed extremely comfortable. The spa is small, massage was excellent and staff very friendly. Dinner at the Grove was excellent! EXTRA PLUS: I don't drink, and they just got in a few bottles of NA wines, and they have a few mock tails on the menu. Deeply appreciate being given an option besides soda or juice. We had dinner two nights here: first night excellent service, second night wait staff at table was little less tactful. Will definitely return. read more

I was charged a $200 fee because my room smelled like marijuana after check out. I never smoked in the room and told that to the general manager over the phone, she agreed that there was no smoking in the room, but that I was being charged for the smell of "fresh Marijuana ", and that i will not be getting my $$ back. I have my medical marijuana card, and only had a few grams on my person. I rolled a join in the room and smoked it outside. We cleaned up the room beautifully and didnt smell anything when we left. This has never happened to me in all my years of travel and staying at hotels/inns. Not sure how this is legal, but i recommend if you are going to stay here you keep your MEDICAL marijuana in your car. I was also told by the general manager ( her name was Peggy sue or Billy joe or something along those lines) that it was disrespectful of me to bring marijuana that smells like that into there hotel. The place was nice and most of the staff was very accommodating, but me and my family will never return, and I will pass this along to as many people as possible. read more

Such a wonderful escape! Super friendly staff who are ultra accommodating and welcoming given the restrictions right now on businesses with Covid. Exceptionally clean, very comfortable bed, plush linens, nice toiletries and the fireplace was a really nice touch. Even though it's one large room once my girls were asleep I was able to have some mommy alone time and kick back. Only thing that would be great to add is a coffee maker and microwave in the room. Perfect for a weekend getaway. Vintage charm with modern amenities and very clean. I loved how there was both a shower and a bathtub, plus a caddy tray with bath salts and scrubs at the ready. The robes were very comfortable too. The complimentary tea/coffee/water stations were a great pick-me-up after a long day. I also enjoyed the small library lounge area, which was perfect for reading and journaling. The only con is that breakfast items go quickly. read more

Over the weekend I was a guest at my cousin Brittany's wedding. Not only was the venue beautiful but the staff was absolutely wonderful. I am a breast feeding mom and became very worried when it came time for me to pump. I asked one of the female employees (I wish I remembered her name) if there was a place I could go. She was so kind and lead me up to the bridal suite (again it was my cousin getting married so the bride did not mind) and found me a secluded private area and offered to grab me a comfy chair. After I was done she even kept my breastmilk in the fridge for me so we could take it home after the wedding. I loved this venue and totally recommend for anyones special occasion. read more

WOW, we thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay of 4 nights. We chose this area because we went to Plum Island to do bird watching. The area around the inn is very quiet. I can't say enough wonderful things about the front desk staff. They were extremely friendly and helpful, esp Naomi. The rooms are generous and pleasant. The towels and robes are wonderful as are all the little toiletries. Coffee stations are easily accessible too. We did not try the onsite restaurant. The only small downsides are the amount of light coming in through the shutters in the morning. I like it really dark. Also, we like a firmer bed, but that's our preference. I would highly recommend this charming inn if you want a break away from hectic lives. read more

My fiancee and I wanted to get away from the city for an evening of relaxation. We found Briar Inn which looked like the perfect place for what we sought. I have minor complaints such as the bathroom door which didn't fit the look. It was an accordion style as opposed to a real door or even a barn door. We wanted to set up a couples massage but the spa only accommodated individual ones so that was a bummer. We wanted to dine at The Grove which was on the premises but the restaurant was booked. Those are all minor complaints that we got passed. The biggest complaint was that a fight broke out outside from the wedding at The Grove I presumed and the cops had to be called. So much for relaxation and getting away from the noise of the city. I would stay here again in hopes that I might get a chance to relax and enjoy the restaurant. read more

Briar Barn Inn is gorgeous! I attended a NYE wedding, and it was fantastic. The convenience of having guest rooms right across from the venue is great, the ease at which they transformed the ceremony setup into the reception setup during the cocktail hour was beautiful, and the building setups were ideal for the wedding party. I took one star away for a few reasons. First, they always ran out of coffee in the lobby when they knew how many of us had rented out rooms. It also wasn't clear when they had continental breakfast (Tuesday's) and not (apparently Monday's). Lastly, I wish there was more clarity around The Grove's brunch. This may have been miscommunication through my family, but they couldn't accommodate about 12 of us the morning after the wedding. I would have thought they would have anticipated a breakfast rush and either warned us to make reservations more than a week ahead, or offered to make reservations since there is literally nowhere else to eat locally. We tried the diner up the street but it was tiny and packed. So we all left hungry the next morning, with no options. Overall though, the inn is great. There are many different common areas and books for people to hang out, which we found helpful as the entire wedding party was staying there. The bridal suite had so much natural light, which was ideal for makeup. The rooms were super cute, each one having a fire place and complimentary water. read more

It's a lovely hotel with chic decor & that's about it. Their pool & spa are not open yet, so the only amenity is the court yard to seat and relax. But you can't even use it on Sat & Sun because it's reserved for the wedding along with the Restaurant Grove. So the only thing you can do is seating in your room or go to their library which has nothing in it. Who wants to go to a library on their vacation. And I'm pretty sure once their spa & pool are open, they are most likely reserved for the wedding as well. Please set your priorities straight if you are in the hospitality industry. Are you a wedding venue or a hotel? On another note, please have more knowledgeable staffs on. Visitors would want to know what they can do around the area. The front desk lady doesn't know how anything about the area or if they can turn on the outdoor fire pit (one of their few amenities) and not even provide ingredients for s'mores (which is a basic minimum thing for any hotel). Also there's a guy wearing black suit standing around in the tiny reception. Is he supposed to be a security guard? It's very awkward, every time walking in through the front desk with silence from the receptionist and the guard. No one say hi. Maybe because they all don't look happy doing their job. They did say hi when you first check in though. Take note on the hospitality group Lark Hotels. They have very minimum amenities in some of their hotels but the service is excellent. read more

AMAZING little gem on the North Shore; my girls + I stayed here for a relaxing getaway this past weekend and it was the best decision we could have made!! The spa + restaurant were not open yet but we still had such a good time; the guest services were beyond hospitable and everyone we spoke with was super friendly. Our room was SO cozy and we even joked that we felt like we were at a friend's house the entire stay. We are already planning a trip back for next year + an even sooner Sunday brunch once their restaurant (the grove) opens up!! From the moment everyone arrived, I received feedback on how nice it was and how great the rooms are (nice touch with fireplaces in all rooms!) I will sum up dinner with one word I received in a text, AMAZING! Reviews on breakfast and lunch were just as positive. Briar Barn In is the ultimate in hospitality! My sister and I took a little two day trip to the inn for relaxation and quality time. It was picturesque! The staff was kind and accommodating. More than that - our room was chic and cozy. We had a fireplace, mini bar, and beautifully decorated room and bathroom. We also used the spa and ate at the restaurant during our time, which made the inn feel like an all inclusive resort. Our stay included a continental breakfast which had delicious bread, cheese, ham, yogurt, fruit, juices, teas, and coffee. We stayed over Christmas so we also had a present under the tree and wine and cheese at night. We plan on going back and will recommend it to all of our friends and family! The gas fireplace, the wonderful soaking tub, the luxurious bathrobe, slippers and bathing supplies are just the beginning of giving you the feel of being anywhere in the world and in a "space" of peace and pampering! We have been back 4 more times since then! The value is a 10 out of a 10! Each time we have stayed at the Briar Barn Inn this winter, early spring, we have paid $142 - $159 (includes taxes!) per night. Being a Massachusetts resident, the Inn has been giving us a 20% discount. The Briar Barn in is a perfect "Get Away"... That's why we have frequented the Inn all winter! We wanted to feel pampered and see 4 different walls other than our home during this Covid time. The Inn sanitizes the rooms very well after each guest. We felt very safe staying at the Inn. That is so important to us since I am a Covid Long Hauler and I was on a ventilator and in ICU and rehab for months. I survived! We deserve to be pampered! The Grove Restaurant has lovely ambiance. The staff is very accommodating and helpful. We wanted to be the most Covid-safe we could be and the staff let us sit in the beautiful back room that has a gas fireplace and is their event room. They made us feel safe and comfortable. The service is great and always served with a smile! The food is delicious and always fresh. I also brought my 17 year old daughter here twice (yes, I have stayed here 6 times! Lucky me!). She absolutely loved the Inn, the Grove restaurant and the luxury, serenity and just plain feeling pampered! What a wonderful mother-daughter get away experience! The Inn staff has been amazing! They accommodate our every wish. They place us in specific rooms we ask for as often as they can. They have been lenient with checkin and checkout times when they can. They deliver everything we need to our room when we request it. They are simply kind and responsive!
