5 stars is not enough. We were taken care of so well and the restaurant was so cozy and bright. The food was consistently yummy, between eggs, biscuits and pancakes etc. My son is a chocolate chip pancake aficionado and he said they were the best he ever had. It was probably the dusting of powdered sugar that swayed him, or maybe the fact that the pancake was bigger than his head and thick too. Great for kids or couples. Small but not overly busy. For breakfast this place is real nice. The staff is great and the food is very good and you get decent sized portions. Prices are very fair, much better than the places down town like the hippie cafe where breakfast for 3 approaches $100. Only downsides is it's small in there and on a hot day it gets pretty toasty in there. Also I notice sometimes there is a crew of local banana heads that like to sit in there forever, talk and milk a cup of coffee for an hour. read more

For my brother's funeral my nephew booked several rooms and we got a discount that did not in Clyde breakfast. Paid $880 for two rooms for two nights. We asked for 2 cups of coffee as we got up and needed to get going and they told us since we got the discount we could not have coffee. Would have been 4 cups over two days. Yes there was a Kureg in the room but it just was not convenient. 4 cups of coffee is what you are paying extra for! read more

This review is for their restaurant -- came here for Brunch! Walked through the patio where a lot of folks were dining as well and she asked us to seat ourselves. Our waitress seemed very busy and pre-occupied. No small talk or questions. After we ordered, she returned to say a couple things were out so we picked some substitutions. It was just about 11am so I was surprised they were out! Maybe they'd had a super busy morning. So the food orders were: 1. Eggs Benedict - served with 3 eggs, it was just delicious! 2. Phil and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Ipswich Inn. Our visit was nothing less than Fantastic! We were up late chatting with the owners and even had the pleasure of dining with one-half of the dynamic duo. Walking into the Inn Daybar and I were met with all of its character and charm. Our keys were also laid out with a little note that had our name on it and the name of the suite we would be staying in. This Inn is full of history and amazing energy. Not just for the traveler, the Ipswich Inn should be enjoyed by us locals too. The Ipswich Inn is located in the third oldest town in the country and we are so lucky to have it here on the Northshore! The food, accommodations, and Service were the Highlights of our stay. Our hope is that you book a stay with Ray and Margaret after reading about our fabulous experience. Carpe diem and book today! Food: Because we are foodies first and foremost our review will start there. The Inn has a restaurant on site that is open to the public so don't be shy, stop in any morning and take advantage of its proximity. There are perks to staying as a guest of the Inn, you enjoy a free drink and breakfast entree for each overnight stay. The menu has a great mix of dietary options with some unique dishes ( chili omelet anyone?), as well as daily specials. The menu is well thought out. Days egg benny and stuffed french toast with cream cheese and berries were perfect. My banana chip pancake was awesome, the ratio of banana and chocolate chip was perfect. My country omelet was a great combo consisting of bacon, potatoes, onion, and cheese. The Hot chocolate was solid, even got the whipped cream (which I almost never get.) Coffee was so smooth and delicious. Just an amazing breakfast overall. Side note they rent the restaurant space, which includes a good size patio which we are convinced in warmer months must be gorgeous for any occasion. Don't worry about food either they will also custom design a menu for you. Accommodations: Room was fantastic! We had the spacious Veranda suite, which was almost a mini apartment. Space made us feel at home and we loved the comfy cozy setup. The véranda room had a sitting area with tv and lovely pull out couch. There was a microwave, mini fridge, and Keurig setup tucked away. In the spacious bathroom, we had the option of a tiled shower with a great water press or a lovely claw foot soaking tub. You can find multiple bookshelves with a lot of old (found several printed in the 1800s) and fascinating books, I had to pull Phil away and remind him we were not here to read every book in the room. I did allow him to veg out and watch a few basketball games as I drifted into a lively wine coma. The veranda suite has a king size bed that really frames the whole room. Équiped with a dresser, two nightstands, and a couple closets you feel like your meant to stay for longer than just a couple nights. Overall service: This starts and ends with the innkeepers Ray and Margaret. Margaret is lovely, gracious, and seems to be the heartbeat of the inn. Ray is a true renaissance man, he is a master storyteller with 10 lifetime's worth of stories to share. Within about 2 hours of being there, we were sharing a bottle of wine with him and deep in conversation. We watched Ray personally coordinate pick ups and drop offs for guest staying at the inn, offer to jokingly (but in all seriousness) bail a group out of jail after a lively night out on the town, and selflessly offer anything he could to make their stay more enjoyable. For example, we went to a local watering hole with solid food in which he seemingly knew everyone there. After dinner, he took us on a fantastic tour of Ipswich, showing us many awesome sights. Ray and his wife have been in Ipswich for over 50 years and have a wealth of knowledge to share. In short, your life will be fuller having stayed here with Margaret and Ray. read more

This review is written strictly from our breakfast experience only! My in-laws, who live in Ipswich, love this quaint setting for a weekend breakfast outings. I believe my mother-in-law also comes here once a weekday with her gal pals. So, they were excited to share this gem of a place with my husband and me on our most recent visit. This place has a warm and cozy family feel to it. Expect to come and enjoy a leisurely, soul-satisfying meal here. There aren't a lot of people who work here, but they make it a priority to know the customers and make them feel at home. Family and personal faves include: Inn special French toast - covered with orange rum sauce, banana and strawberries -Omelets - lots of varieties but you can also build-your-own. Served with hash browns (so yummy) and toast AND fruit on the side. Impossible to finish it all! -Margaret's Special - a fruit/granola/yogurt combo. I don't even want to tell you about this place because you will come here and then I won't be able to come here just randomly whenever I want to, which is how we found Margaret and Ray in the first place. We were just heading up north to find something interesting outside of Boston and it was getting late and the phone/Yelp coverage was spotty. And then it turns out we were turned around and being from Utah, this is understandable because - well go there and you will see what I mean. Finally on the phone up pops the Ipswich Inn. I call. Margaret answers. She calmly guides me, on the phone, in the dusk, up the hill to the Inn. We get the charming Swedish room at the top top top of the hotel. Super clean, queen bed and twin if you have a child with you, we didnt, but the suitcases liked that bed. Room cooled down nicely. TV worked well and the coffee maker did too. Plus a wee fridge. Slept like a rock. Know that you will wake up early bc there are some room darkening shades but New England June doesn't care. And neither should you because BRUNCH OMG. It starts early and goes til 1130 and 1230 on Sunday. The entire town knows about Margaret's brunch. You will not know what to choose. I went with the Irish Benedict which has hash instead if the Canadian bacon. This was epic. Spouse chose perfect eggs and bacon and toast and potatoes and and and... ahh. The next night we asked to stay again and sweet Margaret let us and we asked to stay in the Veranda room, which has a king bed, that's DELICIOUSLY COMFY and has a completely different sitting room and tv and fireplace. And a claw foot tub. I took a long bubble bath in said tub. Breakfast again. Poached eggs and grilled tomato and sausage and then I surrendered and had one of the Almond Joy Pancakes. Coconut and almonds and chocolate. Holy moly. What a lovely, welcoming, cozy, NORMAL, steady place with Ray who has a Jillian hilarious stories and sweet Margaret whom I wish was my friend if I lived here - this is the place to be. Now, don't come here in case I feel like coming back on some random day again. Because I want the whole place to myself! read more

I met up with some old friends for breakfast. I had driven by here for years. I missed out! Except that the parking is weird and you can't really find the entrance the cafe in the back is fantastic. Coffee refills galore! Spinach and mushroom Omelet was very delicious and my friends both got eggs Benedict that looked amazing- three eggs! They loved it. My husband and I had our daughters first communion party here for about 25 people. It was in the afternoon after their regular business hours. We worked with the owners Margaret and ray to decide a menu and table set up. I dropped off a cake and decorations earlier in the day and the staff set it up for us. The dinning room is bright and open feeling and everything is nice and clean. We also had use of the tented porch out back. The kids really enjoyed playing in the back yard and seeing the koi pond. It's the day after our Wedding and we are reflecting, and had to write this review right away, we chose the Ipswich Inn for our parents to stay the night of the big day. While we were in the area just a week before finalizing our arrangements we all decided to pop over to see where they would be staying. Upon our arrival we were greeted by the nicest group of people and got to personally pick the room they were to stay in during a fabulous tour. We felt right at home immediately, so much that we decided to change our rehearsal dinner venue to here with little time to the date. Becky the Inn coordinator was right there to help us, make the planning easy, and offer anything we wanted which makes all the difference to me. I was told I could choose from their list of extensive menus or create our own. Since it was the day before the Wedding, and a luncheon I wanted to keep it simple. I chose a green salad, clam chowder, beef stew, with bread bowls. We also got to bring in our own special traditional family cake and alcohol. Let me just tell you Ray along with his wife, and wonderful staff prepared us one of the most amazing meals we all ever shared. I can't even begin to write how phenomenal! Not to mention the property is beautiful, clean, and cozy. We were extremely early arriving which made me nervous. When I called ahead to give a heads up Ray told me not to worry come on over. I'm sure I have missed more of our perfect experience but I think you'll get my drift I would recommend this jewl to anyone, and we'll be back for sure! Thank you all. We used to eat here a lot, several times a month until I was sprayed with a vinegar solution as the wait person cleaned the table beside us. A month later we arrived to a table and sat on vinegar spray. I spoke to the owner both times. A friend of mine took me for breakfast here, and it was wonderful. Pleasant, homey, very fresh - obvious care in the kitchen! Since then I've been back with my friend, taken other friends (who loved it), and this morning finally managed to take my husband. He had the 2-2-2 home run, and was a happy happy man. Two (good, not slabs like some places) pancakes, two sausages, and two eggs perfectly over easy. I had an omelette with fresh baby spinach, cheese, and tomatoes. Every so often I like to revisit a place especially if my first review wasn't so great. I like to see if it's improved or maybe I was working to begin with. I went here today. I waited a while for anyone to seat me or even say hello, I sat myself finally. The server looked frazzled all morning and honestly I didn't see that many tables full. I was asked if I wanted coffee but I order a hot chocolate to witch I'm pretty sure I saw an eye roll. I did finally order my meal. The homemade hash was dry. Not bad tasting but dry. I wouldn't get it again. The biscuits and gravy were good. Not like you'd get in the south but still good. However once the food was dropped I never saw the server again. No one asked me if I wanted anything else until I was done and my dishes were piled. Do you want more coffee? No, I'd like my check. Then I tried to use the YELP 20%off a check in and guess what, they don't take it! They said they used to have a sign on the door but not anymore. Well how does that help me? Besides the door was open when I came in and I wouldn't have seen it. They brought the check and never offered to honor it or anything. I told the server flat out it needs to be removed from Yelp immediately and to please tell the manager. It's false advertising. It draws people like me in and then nope. I'm fairly local and always looking for a nice place to bring business associates and staff. What a shame. read more
