This review is for their restaurant -- came here for Brunch! Walked through the patio where a lot of folks were dining as well and she asked us to seat ourselves. Our waitress seemed very busy and pre-occupied. No small talk or questions. After we ordered, she returned to say a couple things were out so we picked some substitutions. It was just about 11am so I was surprised they were out! Maybe they'd had a super busy morning. So the food orders were: 1. Eggs Benedict - served with 3 eggs, it was just delicious! 2. Quiche Lorraine - nice sized slice Overall, food came out piping hot, coffee was tasty, ambience was nice, sit by the window, and enjoy the wonderful breeze.

Ray is the best!! He provided warmth, comfort, stories for days, and a delicious breakfast. My BF found a fascinating book in their library and Ray gave it to us. What generosity and benevolence.

Phil and I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Ipswich Inn. Our visit was nothing less than Fantastic! We were up late chatting with the owners and even had the pleasure of dining with one-half of the dynamic duo. Walking into the Inn Daybar and I were met with all of its character and charm. Our keys were also laid out with a little note that had our name on it and the name of the suite we would be staying in. This Inn is full of history and amazing energy. Not just for the traveler, the Ipswich Inn should be enjoyed by us locals too. The Ipswich Inn is located in the third oldest town in the country and we are so lucky to have it here on the Northshore! The food, accommodations, and Service were the Highlights of our stay. Our hope is that you book a stay with Ray and Margaret after reading about our fabulous experience. Carpe diem and book today! Food: Because we are foodies first and foremost our review will start there. The Inn has a restaurant on site that is open to the public so don't be shy, stop in any morning and take advantage of its proximity. There are perks to staying as a guest of the Inn, you enjoy a free drink and breakfast entree for each overnight stay. The menu has a great mix of dietary options with some unique dishes ( chili omelet anyone?), as well as daily specials. The menu is well thought out. Days egg benny and stuffed french toast with cream cheese and berries were perfect. My banana chip pancake was awesome, the ratio of banana and chocolate chip was perfect. My country omelet was a great combo consisting of bacon, potatoes, onion, and cheese. The Hot chocolate was solid, even got the whipped cream (which I almost never get.) Coffee was so smooth and delicious. Just an amazing breakfast overall. Side note they rent the restaurant space, which includes a good size patio which we are convinced in warmer months must be gorgeous for any occasion. Don't worry about food either they will also custom design a menu for you. Accommodations: Room was fantastic! We had the spacious Veranda suite, which was almost a mini apartment. Space made us feel at home and we loved the comfy cozy setup. The véranda room had a sitting area with tv and lovely pull out couch. There was a microwave, mini fridge, and Keurig setup tucked away. In the spacious bathroom, we had the option of a tiled shower with a great water press or a lovely claw foot soaking tub. You can find multiple bookshelves with a lot of old (found several printed in the 1800s) and fascinating books, I had to pull Phil away and remind him we were not here to read every book in the room. I did allow him to veg out and watch a few basketball games as I drifted into a lively wine coma. The veranda suite has a king size bed that really frames the whole room. Équiped with a dresser, two nightstands, and a couple closets you feel like your meant to stay for longer than just a couple nights. Overall service: This starts and ends with the innkeepers Ray and Margaret. Margaret is lovely, gracious, and seems to be the heartbeat of the inn. Ray is a true renaissance man, he is a master storyteller with 10 lifetime's worth of stories to share. Within about 2 hours of being there, we were sharing a bottle of wine with him and deep in conversation. We watched Ray personally coordinate pick ups and drop offs for guest staying at the inn, offer to jokingly (but in all seriousness) bail a group out of jail after a lively night out on the town, and selflessly offer anything he could to make their stay more enjoyable. For example, we went to a local watering hole with solid food in which he seemingly knew everyone there. After dinner, he took us on a fantastic tour of Ipswich, showing us many awesome sights. Ray and his wife have been in Ipswich for over 50 years and have a wealth of knowledge to share. In short, your life will be fuller having stayed here with Margaret and Ray.

I stayed here one night for an interview with a nearby company. the rooms are clean and very country like. Everything you'd expect from a bed and breakfast in a small village. I won't have time for breakfast here in the morning before I leave, but from the menu it looks very delicious. who knows maybe I'll be back Sunday night and get partake in the device just looking breakfast. until that time, makes you swing by to talk to the owner whose name is Ray. I stayed in the Jordan room.

We sat at the bar both times and it just wasn't up to par compared to the Choate before new ownership took over. The service was great but... The baked haddock did not have the same delicious crumbs and the portion was too huge to finish and we know seafood doesn't really make for good leftovers. The fried haddock was done a little too much; the coating was too dark and again so much of it! The salads have grown to twice their size but served in the same tiny dish; much of our salad ended up in our laps and on the floor... The broccoli and squash were just okay but again the portions are HUGE! A bit disappointing really...we both would have preferred less, more delicious food of yore rather than the enormous portions of sub-par flavors. A lot of food doesn't necessarily mean delicious... Both visits left us feeling a little sad and nostalgic for the way the Choate used to be.

**Classic local watering hole with solid food and atmosphere**…read more The Chote Pub is definitely a neighborhood spot through and through. You can tell the regulars get priority attention from the bartenders, but we eventually got taken care of too - just be prepared to be patient if it's busy and you're a new face. The food was good with very generous portions that definitely give you your money's worth. Drinks were well-made and hit the spot. We loved the setup for watching football - great views of the games from multiple angles around the bar. **Important heads-up: This is a CASH ONLY establishment.** Make sure you stop at an ATM before you arrive, or you'll be making a quick exit to find one. The vibe here is very much old-school local pub - if that's your scene, you'll love it. If you're looking for something more polished or trendy, this might not be your spot. We enjoyed the unpretentious atmosphere and will likely be back, but it's definitely worth knowing what you're walking into first. Bottom line: Come for honest pub fare, generous portions, cold drinks, and a genuine local experience. Just bring cash!

The staff are friendly and the servers knowledgeable and efficient. The hostess had trouble finding our reservation (my companion was already seated) but it seemed to be quite busy that Friday night. The restaurant consists of quite a few separate rooms and we were seated in one that was not too crowded. (I walked through the bar on my way in and that was hopping.) I had a glass of sauvignon blanc and after studying the menu and consulting our server my companion and I both went for a burger. There was no problem with my swapping out the french fries for onion rings (points there!). The burgers were done exactly to our liking (mine mediume rare, hers medium well). I should have turned down dessert, I was that full, but my companion was willing so we went for it. There was a good selection of typical New England desserts and we finally settled on a blueberry crisp topped with vanilla ice cream which was good but not great (not sure I can put my finger on why, so it may be that I was too full to enjoy it). There is a parking lot although it is not paved so was not fun walking through at the end of a day when it clearly had rained. It also could use some lighting. This is a wonderful restaurant suitable for a special occasion or an ordinary night out. I will definitely be back.

When you walk in, the place is beautiful- sort of modern rustic chic with beautiful string lights. We ordered mussels and wine to start. Mussels were fantastic. Meaty, flavorful and plenty for everyone. The entree is where it fell short for me. I got the shrimp pasta. While the flavor was there, when I cut into the shrimp they still looked pretty translucent to me. After eating one and cutting up a few others, I felt that they were undercooked. The waitress said they wouldn't cook them more but she could bring the plate back and ask if they were cooked through. My plate came back and I was told they were cook so I sat there pushing soft, nasty shrimp around my plate while just eating spaghetti. My boyfriend asked for a medium burger and it was definitely rare to medium rare. When this happens, generally you offer to bring out new protein cooked again or ask if the guest wants something else but I was just left to feel like I was nuts. Whatever, into dessert. Now for dessert, I thought we'd try the cookies and ice cream. cookies were completely raw ( not just soft) and also not hot and the ice cream on the plate looked like it was pre scooped and refrozen. While I loved the concept of this place. Relaxing getaway where you can just do it all onsite, I honestly would spare yourselves the experience of the restaurant or order fish and chips or fried chicken) and just dine in Newburyport.

And, well, I won't keep you in suspense but that first bite of the salted honey butter and jam biscuit was transcendental. They have so many pastry options, as well as breakfast sandwiches, but I really had eyes only for the biscuits. Also tried the cheddar scallion biscuit - amazing. I'm running out of adjectives to describe how good these were. The key for super flaky, tender biscuits is using very, very cold butter and not mixing the dough too much. It was cool to watch people baking in the back kitchen. Got the quiche as well.
