When they say the best breakfast in Gloucester, it's not an exaggeration! The couple that owns the Inn/Cafe are very hospitable and welcoming people. I've been visiting for the past 15+ years and every stay and meal has always been exceptional. Additionally, the staff they hire and employ is equally committed. It is truly a five-star operation. We were recently up in the area visiting Gloucester and Rockport. As always, one of those mornings meant we had to stop at Atlantis Oceanfront Cafe! It is a MUST. I almost hate letting this gem/secret out. It is the best place for breakfast with the very best view. It is post-card perfect. Your window table overlooks the rocks+water and you can visually see and hear the waves crashing against the rocks. It doesn't get much more picturesque or scenic than that! While the menu has changed a bit since my last visit, the quality has not. The breakfast portions are very generous and everything is of the highest quality. Our favorite is the eggs Benedict. Those perfectly poached eggs resting on top of those bakery-quality English muffins. The tender Canadian bacon. The perfect amount of creamy, perfectly seasoned hollandaise sauce. The side of tender and perfectly seasoned breakfast potatoes. It doesn't get any better than that in my book! Another favorite of mine is their GIANT Fresh Blueberry Pancakes. They remind me greatly of every childhood trip to the Atlantis and Gloucester. I've always told my family if I had to have one last breakfast, let's hope Atlantis Cafe is in season! I am not joking either! Service is always top priority. Friendly and expeditious. The kitchen is open to the dining room and their culinary takes true pride in every plate they put out. If you're looking for the best breakfast with the best view in Gloucester, Atlantis Oceanfront is the place. I did notice the secret has gotten out as of late! My friend and I had a two-night reservation, and when the storm was forecast, I proactively contacted the hotel before our stay. I simply asked if we could move our reservation a few days, from Sunday-Tuesday to Tuesday-Thursday, so we could still stay at Ocean House after the storm passed. I was even willing to pay any difference in rate. That request was denied, and I ultimately had no choice but to cancel the reservation. Afterward, I reached out a second time to try again & explain the circumstances and ask if they would consider a goodwill gesture, such as a credit toward a future stay. I was told again that they would not make any exception. I completely understand that hotels have cancellation policies, and I'm not upset that they have a policy. What disappointed me was the complete lack of flexibility or customer goodwill during an extraordinary coastal weather event, particularly when my original request was simply to move the reservation and keep my business. As someone who travels and has hotel stays frequently for my full time job, most hotels go above & beyond to accommodate if the request is reasonable. I genuinely wanted to visit Ocean House, and this experience has unfortunately changed my impression of the hotel & their management. A little flexibility in an unusual circumstance would have gone a long way toward creating a loyal customer. The lack of customer service, empathy, and un-willingness to do the right thing for their guests during an extraordinary situation is extremely disappointing.

A bad nor'easter was forecast with AAA warning against driving and some east coast governors warning against being on the roads. I'm 69 and a lung cancer survivor so I tend to err on the side of safety. I emailed the Inn and asked if my booking could be transferred to the Tuesday of the following week, or the Monday of the week after that. I still work so my bookings depend on when I have time, and too, I was careful to keep it near a similar day to what I had booked. Even though it is low season I wanted to be sure to not inconvenience the Inn. I was met with arrogance and a "sure everyone wants good weather" response, which was flabbergasting. They suggested I come the following day - still high winds and lashing rain - and if not I would forfeit the money I paid close to $400. I was stupefied by their response and will ensure that I warn everyone of this place of bad manners and poor business nous.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights (Thu-Sun), since we were in the area for a wedding. We were greeted warmly and given a room on the second floor with a gas fireplace. The room was beautiful, clean, quiet, and everything in the room worked perfectly, i.e. hot water, air conditioning, television, etc. The housekeeping staff did a great job of keeping our room comfortable and stocked with supplies. The Inn is located in town so just walk out and enjoy the shops, restaurants, Fort Sewall, or walk down to water and take a boat ride. Walking through town and the side streets will make you think you were back in the 1700's. There is free parking in their private lot and a complimentary buffet breakfast each morning which consisted of cereal, bagels, muffins, English muffins, yogurt, oatmeal, coffee, tea, etc. Everything was fresh. There are multiple common areas with a fireplace, a bar, and a pool. My wife and I enjoyed a nice beverage before dinner in their quaint and cozy bar. This was a great option to Salem where there is plenty of drama and busy. Is it pricey? Yes. Worth every penny. This was our third trip to Marblehead and we already know where we are staying next time.

On a clear morning in the back yard of the inn (house rule: stay off the rocks!) I have caught some of the most beautiful Atlantic sunrises of my photography career. Rooms are very well maintained with a very nice gilded age air. Inn keeper Randy is very helpful and thorough and explains things clearly and is very accommodating. Mind you this not a traditional bed and breakfast, it has no expansive common areas or on-site kitchen. Breakfast is provided off site via voucher at another very nice location with everything you may want or need. The location is prime and just outside of the main harbor in Rockport and walking distance to everything in town (which is true of just about everything in Rockport anyway). FIRST, IT IS NOT THE ROCKPORT INN, AND SECONDLY IT WAS POSTED BY THE BUSINESS OWNER! TSK! TSK! And their Hotel market, with snacks, beverages, and convenience items. HaHaHa! It's a closet without a door. A cooler with soda, maybe water and juice, and several little baskets with snacks ... like grocery store family packs of tiny individual pouches that are usually labeled not for resale! I bought two tiny bags of cheez-itz and a coke for $10! They didn't get enough out of me for the room! So was it like $2.50 for each one gulper package of crackers and $5 for a can of coke? And I don't know what were considered convenience items, there were only the limited snacks and drinks ... forget toothpaste or Tylenol or any other toiletry or OTC item. When asked, they said sometimes they have things like that if people leave them behind! WHAT? We did love the little courtyard outside the pool area with all the patio furniture and fire pit ... but the pit should be right in the middle so more people can enjoy it. The first night our family of 10 just huddled in a corner because there were already 8 people around it who didn't seem to want to share. The second night we just grabbed some chairs and put them closer, saying "you don't mind if we join you, do you"? Of course we doubted they'd say no, but if the fire were in the middle, more people would be able to enjoy it. And there's plenty of room out there for those who don't want to sit near it, to have a quiet area elsewhere. Would I go back again? If I had a reason to go back to that area, I definitely would, but it's highly unlikely because this time we were there for a wedding being held at the Beaumont Hotel, 10 min. down the road, (which I understand was a DEFINITE ripoff)!Their standard king or 2 queen rooms were anywhere from $600 - $1,200! So I'm still going to rate the Rockport Inn a 4 ... I'm just subtracting the on star for the lack of friendliness and food!
