This past Halloween season we made plans to come back to the Harbor Light Inn. Our plane was delayed, we missed connecting flights, it's was awful. But throughout that whole fiasco, the kind people at Harbor Light checked on us. When I told them we wouldn't be arriving until the wee hours of the morning they told us it was fine. They left us a way to enter and had fruit and muffins waiting for us on our room. I can't recommend this lovely bed and breakfast or the people who work there enough. We will be back!! read more

This B&B is very well run... we were greeted by warm and friendly staff, our room was charming and very clean and the breakfasts are surprisingly amazing...even down to the oatmeal. Oh and not to forget they have the most delicious cookies! I am not usually a fan of B&B's because the last one we had gone to used "plug-ins" and the towels were strongly scented with Downy.... I have absolutely no negative things to say about this place. In my 23 years on this earth, this remains one of the best hotel experiences that I have ever had. I've stayed here on two different occasions, both of which were during Halloween festivities in nearby Salem, and both experiences were nothing but pleasant. It's a bed and breakfast, so it's very homey. It's a really nice old estate that has a touch of sophistication and history without feeling outdated- it really made me feel like I was staying somewhere special. The woman behind the desk was super friendly and we spent a good hour talking to her about where we were from, our flight, and things like that. Anytime we came downstairs, she made a point to use our names and ask us how we were doing. It felt really personal, and it was nice. Our room was clean and neat, and bigger than anticipated. The bathroom was awesome, and had a whirlpool in it, which was a nice surprise. There were also little goodie bags of Halloween candies on our pillows, which was just adorable. Exploring this inn is neat, because there are tons of stairways that seem to go to a million places, not unlike Hogwarts. There's a nice little business center with a computer and a printer. There's a salon/parlor area with plush seating and magazines and the like, perfect for socializing. There's a pool, but it was October on the coast, so no swimming for me! My favorite part of the hotel was the adorable little bar and dining area. It's cozy and friendly in ambiance, and is decorated in a classy nautical theme. It was really nice to hang out there when we came home to have a drink or two. Breakfast was served in the little dining area, and that was all delicious too. It was so much better than chain hotel breakfasts, and that's all the more reason to choose a smaller, more intimate inn like this one. It's within walking distance of downtown Marblehead, which is full of cute little stores and buildings that are full of American history. It was really neat to explore the area. I really hope I get to come back here in the future, hopefully with my girlfriend for a romantic weekend instead of with family this time. Harbor Light Inn is excellent. First time to stay here. Staff is kind and attentive. Breakfast is excellent with a unique and very tasty hot dish each morning (you choose your meal the day before). Our room had a gas fireplace and large jetted tub and we loved it. The bathroom is updated and the bed was very comfortable. The location is perfect. You can walk everywhere to sight see or enjoy great shops and restaurants. Certainly try 5 Corners Kitchen - it was a great meal along with eating at Marblehead Pizza for a quick bite. The sitting rooms and bar inside HLI give you places to sit and enjoy reading about the history of the town, your own book or just to have a cup of tea or a glass of wine. My husband and I stayed at Harbor Light Inn for a night for our anniversary this July and had a wonderful time. We were a little nervous about staying at a hotel in the midst of a pandemic, but the measures they took to keep us safe and to keep all the areas clean were great. All rooms are cleaned prior to arrival with both normal cleaning and special ultraviolet lights and then are left empty for a certain amount of time. Common areas are cleaned regularly and we were given special blankets and towels for use in the pool area, despite the fact that we had the entire space to ourselves! The inn is exactly what we hoped it would be. It has such an old-timey feel, with beautiful and tasteful updates. Our room was huge and spacious with windows looking out on the surrounding streets and the bed was so comfortable. We didn't want to get up in the morning! The staff were also wonderful. They were more than willing to provide recommendations for exploring the area, were flexible with check-in and check-out times, and provided a delicious breakfast in the morning. We had a wonderful time and hope to return soon! read more

One of the nicest places in New England. Marblehead is a hidden gem and this inn captures all the beauty and quaintness of the town. The staff is amazing. The common areas are perfect. And each room is unique and equally beautiful. I have stayed here over 30 times and I am never disappointed. Oh! And they have free parking. A rarity in Marblehead. This is our second time staying at the Harbor Light Inn and I have to say, it doesn't disappoint. The ambience is romantic, the staff are always pleasant and the breakfast and fresh baked goods are always a delight. We usually stay in room 34, which happens to be the smallest room in the Inn, but my partner and I love the coziness of it. It is also attached to a large deck, that is beautiful during the snowy months; it's a great view to watch the sunrise. On this visit we were accommodated and upgraded to room 35 in the 2nd house due to construction. This is a king size room with a fire place to perfectly set the mood. Only downside is the bed bangs against the wall lol....other than that we love it, but will certainly return to room 34 during our next stay. The Harbor Light Inn is a beautiful, upscale bed-and-breakfast in scenic Marblehead Massachusetts. It's a bit pricey, but worth every penny. My girlfriend and I spent two nights here recently during a brief anniversary getaway from Boston. We booked a room with a two person Jacuzzi. The room was beautiful, the bed was comfortable, and two-person Jacuzzi was awesome, and the shower was specious. It was the perfect room for an anniversary getaway. The breakfasts were very good, and they staff was very friendly and helpful. We like to try different places when we get away, but we just found one that we'll definitely return to one day. read more

My mother and I stayed at the Harbor Light Inn recently over Halloween weekend on a birthday trip to Salem, Ma. Marblehead is a beautiful little town just outside of Salem and I'm very glad we elected to stay outside Salem for our little Halloween trip. The Inn is a gorgeous large old mansion that has been converted expertly into a high class Inn. It has parking around the back of the building and is located very close to several little shops and stores with nautical items as well as some very good restaurants. The staff were so friendly. The Inn Manager, Susan, was amazing, we loved her. When my mother and arrived on the cold snowy night from Boston she provided us with excellent service at check-in and coerced us into trying some of their food since we were already tired and didn't really want to leave the inn to find something to eat after our flight and drive. I'm very glad we listened to her. We enjoyed the best Shrimp and Corn Chowder we've ever had by the fireplace in the main room. Our room was beautiful and very clean with old charm. We had paid a little extra for a fireplace but sadly weren't able to use it any of the three nights we stayed due to weather which was a large bummer for me but nothing to be done about that. The food was excellent, the housekeeping staff cleaned our rooms daily and left cute little mints on the nightstand, staff helped us find local restaurants and walk around the confusing little streets, and the location was unbelievable. As this is a true B&B breakfast is included. This included orange juice, fresh fruits, and various muffins and bread wares with jelly and butter. There was also always one homemade hot dish: french toast, some delicious egg and ham baked goodie that I went back for seconds of, and sausage or bacon. While having a light lunch my mother and I had the opportunity to meet the owner who was very friendly and engaging and told us a little about the Inn and the town of Marblehead. Overall, we had a blast in Salem and I think it was partly to do with our delight at our accommodations. You can tell that the owners take great pride in their business and the service they are providing to customers. While it was a little pricey, it was well worth every penny we paid. We greatly enjoyed our stay at the Inn and I will recommend it to anyone I know visiting Boston as well as try to visit Marblehead again for the 4th of July as I hear there is a beautiful firework display at the harbor. read more

Clean, friendly and efficient staff, plenty of space to hang out whether the very small and cozy bar or comfortable living room with papers and magazines.These are all 5's! Nice location to walk to the water or to the center of the old district. Perfect locale My hang up is for what I thought was pricey for a Bed & Breakfast and I always focus in on the breakfast, the breakfast was just "ok". The eggs based center piece had to many items in it both days were in there to enjoy for our tastes, the fruit selection looked from a grocery store as opposed to a farmers market and the breads off the same grocery store shelves, when down the road this little deli had some great local baked breads with great flavor. I guess I wanted to be wow'ed and I was just, well , hungry. One night I smelled the wonderful aroma of a pumpkin bread but when served the next day it could not have been more bland. was it a box recipe. Same with a carrot cake which was out for hours with the cream cheese frosting - just no real flavor. I kept eyeing the daily special but after three days of the same special stew I became suspect. Friends recommended the place and we were not disappointed- just not feeling a 4+ or a 5. read more

I am so disappointed in my experiences with the Harbor Light Inn. When I tried to book a room for my family, she laughed at me saying "There is a 3 night minimum" and they were fully booked. When I explained how my husband is from Marblehead and we were coming to town to meet family and friends for the weekend, she then had a room for us because we were from there. I chose to stay elsewhere!!! When my husband, my son (age 12) and I went to the Inn to meet friends who were staying there (they had 3 rooms at the Inn with 3 children, 13,13 &14) They refused to let the kids in the pool or sit at the tables in the yard because "they don't normally have children at the establishment" and ""they don't allow children under 12 here" Both women were beyond rude. I have never been to an establishment that was so non-inclusive and unaccommodating . I understand and respect rules, although it is how they spoke and presented these rules to their customers that was shocking and appalling. I do not recommend this place. read more

Why oh why can some guests not close their bedroom doors quietly???? We stayed here for a night after flying in from then UK. Being fellow innkeepers we are aware of possible pitfalls when it comes to lodging, and the Harbor Light Inn presses many buttons in the right way. What it has failed to do with the a/c ducting in our room was preventing an echo chamber from the next door room. We were soundly asleep when our 'lively neighbours' decided to return to their room at 23.45, and of course it was too much trouble to close the bedroom door quietly as they had 2 other friends in tow. The friends decided to catch up on their evening, with much chat and laughter, and after 15 minutes I decided to go and ask them to be quiet! They did apologise...but they still carried on chatting away and did we really need to know ALL about their evening, as they had spent the evening together! The door of course needed to be opened again...and slammed again ...and opened again...yup you've guessed it...slammed shut as 10 minutes later the friends decided to tell the whole landing that they would all meet up at 08,00 for breakfast. The remaining couple still couldn't take their conversation down a notch or four...but thankfully after about 30 minutes they retired to bed and thankfully for us decided to not have some carnal thrusting. So morning comes and the 08.00 meet up was completed again on time with a jolly slam of the bedroom door.....and there they stayed for over 1 hour...so we decided to depart for some grub. Apart from these clients who seemed unable to respect fellow guests, the inn was very pleasant, the king bed comfortable and central a/c machinery quiet ...the breakfast was a simple but tasty selection of hot or cold options and some daily newspapers were provided. The staff seemed interested in their rolls and the inn was clean and well kept and offered reasonable value in a central Marblehead location. Would we go back ...yes but we might enquire about staying in a different room or at least reminding fellow travellers that their lives at 23.30 are really something we would not hear about! read more

An accommodating, friendly, and caring staff, a clean and quiet environment, beautifully furnished rooms, delicious breakfast selections, afternoon freshly baked cookies, comfortable sitting rooms and lounges, a pleasant garden with plenty of outdoor seating, a good size outdoor pool with chaise lounges, and sufficient parking. Each and every one of these features are present at Harbor Light Inn. To top it off, this charming inn is located in historic and walkable Marblehead, a short drive to Gloucester and Rockport, both lovely destinations. And for American History and Witch buffs, you can't find a more appropriate part of the country to visit. A week stay at Harbor Light Inn was just what my wife and I needed for our first week's vacation since the start of Covid-19. Without question we will be back for another relaxing stay. read more

First I just want to say this inn was beautiful! The courtyard grounds are lovely with a grassy yard, firepit and outdoor pool. The inn itself has a very romantic vibe and is clearly kept very clean - always appreciated. I booked this hotel because all of the above reasons but also because they advertised a heated pool and the room we booked had a fireplace. The weather was suppose to be low 60's and cloudy so I figure the heated pool and a fireplace would make it worth-while. We only had 1 day to squeeze in a romantic getaway and we didn't want to let weather stop us so we tried to work around it. We got to the room and realized the fireplace couldn't be used, which the website doesn't mention when you book online. No big deal. So around 7pm we went down to the pool to discover it was very cold and it was high 50's outside. Bummer! We planned on having a dip as the sunset and into the night. We asked the front desk staff if it was heated and they said it does heat, but they didn't think to turn the heater on and apparently it would take all night. Okay so now no fireplace and no pool. Given we couldn't use any of the things we wanted (again being the reason we booked this inn) we asked if we could switch to a room with 2 person jacuzzi tub. The woman was very nice about it and showed us the room first. Our original room was $280 which I had no problem paying for since the hotel and room had all these other great amenities. The new room was $390 :/ My biggest gripe wasn't they we couldn't use the pool or fireplace. We didn't make a big deal out of it, although it was clear we were disappointed about the pool. I just felt they should have offered to upgrade us free of charge. We had already spent close to $300 to not get any of the things the website advertised and it's not like anyone was using the room - we switched at 8pm at night. I thought it was bad customer service. When you're paying that much for a hotel you expect to get what they advertise and if they can't follow through with that fine, things do happen, but they should offer you something as a good gesture for return business. Not sure if I'll book here again someday but if I do I'll definitely book via phone to confirm all the details to make sure the amenities we want are useable. Otherwise you're just paying $300/$400 to just stay in a pretty B&B. read more

The bathroom was very modern, 2 personal robes , double sinks, walkin shower & jacuzzi was the perfect condition. Seperate room with a couch & tv, plus main space with king size bed had a 2nd tv, & skylight, nice stereo system & fridge.. the service at front desk was very nice, couldnt swim in outdoor pool as it was chilly but it was open to do so & fireplace was off as its seasonal.. complimentary breakfast in morning was very good too. We walked the area & enjoyed the historical buildings& quaint feel. Theres parking in back. I will be making a 2nd trip. read more

My family and I stayed at the The Harbor Light Inn this past weekend. Great location, central to many restaurants & shopping. But unfortunately the staff was not accommodating- especially considering the price we paid to stay there. Our room was on the third floor and it was very warm in our room. There was no thermostat to control our own temperature- we had to call the front desk and ask them to adjust it for us. When I called for the second night in a row asking for the temperature to be made cooler & explained we were uncomfortable and had gotten a little sunburn from being at the beach all day I was told to "Take an aspirin" by the lady at the front desk. I didn't feel comfortable as a guest there and will not consider staying there when I come back. read more

The fireplace is a very dignified touch combined with cute separate sitting room. Too rate this experience a 1-10 and 10 being the best, it gets a 20!!!! My husband and I stayed at this cozy bed and breakfast for a long weekend in October. Many of our activities were planned in Salem, but I wanted to stay out of the craziness while still being a short distance away. Marblehead is a gorgeous town and the HLI sits on a quaint street that's scattered with really nice shops and eateries within walking distance. Cassandra was a fantastic host! We stayed in room #37, on the third floor (the highest) with a queen poster bead, exposed beams and a fireplace (it requires a duraflame log). The room was spacious, charming and had so many original and untouched features that were really endearing - this is why I love B+Bs! The breakfast was delicious and the pricing for the height of the tourist season was reasonable. We even got to sit outside around a fire pit and enjoy a glass of wine with other guests! It took us only 10-12 minutes by car service to get into Salem each day. I would undoubtedly stay here again next year! If you're looking during October, you'll need to book 7-9 months out! We got one of the last rooms and we made our reservation in April. read more

Excellent place to stay in Marblehead! Spent just one night during the winter months and it was a perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. Very friendly staff and inviting spaces. Breakfast buffet was okay, just make sure to get there in time before they promptly stop serving you. Close walk to downtown Marblehead restaurants and shops, even after a snowstorm the night before we had no trouble getting around. After selecting the Harbor Light Inn for our elopement, we were very pleased with EVERY angle of service and hospitality that was offered to us. We enjoyed our time at this inn. It is so quaint, yet beautiful and unique. We felt extremely safe here. They are implementing guidelines for COVID and still delivered great service. My husband & I booked this room for our anniversary weekend (mid October). We chose a fireplace room bc we thought it would be a romantic touch. On the website it states "great for ANY season". After checking in we were told that the fireplaces were only seasonal (has to be below 45 degrees outside) and the flues had not been cleaned yet. When I said, had I known that I would have chosen a different room, I was told "it's on our website that the fireplaces are seasonal". It in fact is NOT and when I asked the manager to show it to me, she could not find it either. I emailed the owner, and received a call from the manager stating that it was their mistake and they would adjust my rate to a regular room rate. She also stated that they would update their website so that no one else has the same experience. I did not get an email back from the owner. Other than that, the staff was very nice. The inn itself is beautiful. We were able to walk into the little town for supper which was great. The room was quaint and clean. Their cream brule French toast was delicious! Amazing I. Got ready for my wedding in the suite RM4!!! Was amazing plenty of room and light!!! We had a lovely cheese plate left for us! And the owner ! Yes the owner helped me with my bags etc !! (I have a broken foot ) he stopped everything he was doing aswell as the front desk! Carried everything in got me settled !!! Brought over chairs and then!!! When we all left for the wedding! My husband!!! And I ! Came back to all fresh linens towels!! Champagne!!! And another cheese tray. Turn down service !! We live in Marblehead and wanted something close by so we could check on the dog and harbor light made it soo amazing !!! I don't think you'll find hospitality like this! Anywhere else. Clean room !
