Beautiful Historic Inn! Interesting architecture and very well maintained. Very friendly and helpful staff! I would highly recommend Hotel Marblehead for a short stay vs a long stay. We were here for a week. The rooms are very small, remember this is a historic inn, not a modern hotel! We had a King Suite, which is basically two small rooms adjoined. The bedroom and bathroom are very small. The closest is very small. For a short stay, no problem, but for a longer stay fitting in suitcases (with very little room to hang clothes) was difficult. Small bathroom so most of those items we stored in the bedroom. The bed was very comfy and we both slept very well! Room was very clean and up to date. It is an older Inn and there are only stairs, no elevator. We had a room up on the third floor. Walking up and down, not a problem but getting our luggage up and down, that was a workout! The living area had a table for two and a couch. The couch was extremely uncomfortable to sit on. Guessing it is a sleeper sofa (not sure why you would want to have more people in this small space), the cushions would sink and the bar went right into the backs on your legs. It was comfortable to lay down on, just not sit on! My husband took a few naps on it! The Kitchenette was only stocked with mugs and supplies, for the coffee machine (just like downstairs in the breakfast room). No wine glasses. No plates. No utensils. When we stay a week we are often taking out a few meals back to our room or enjoying sone wine with cheeses/crackers. Made it more difficult but we worked around. The continental breakfast was very good but repeated itself, again a short stay it is perfect. A longer stay like ours we went out most mornings for breakfast. It's a short drive (not walk) to town with some fun shopping and lots of places to eat. We enjoying eating and shopping around Marblehead. In nice weather, I believe they have bikes, so definitely a short ride on a bike! There is a nice common area for eating breakfast and also would be a nice place to relax and read a book. There are also a nice outside area, however, we were there during rain. Unfortunately, no alcohol is allowed in the common areas. It would have been nice to enjoy a glass of wine on our own or when our friends came up to join us (long drive for them). All in all it was a great stay and I based selecting Hotel Marblehead on the many positive reviews. I sure most of those were short stays and during our stay, only one other couple was there more than a few nights. read more

It has been a week since I stayed there and they over charged me, they took half as a deposit and when we made the reservation and charged us full price when checking in. We have sent bank statements....and at this point have gotten no help or the money returned. It was 100 % their mistake and it's unacceptable that we can't even get any help from them. I am sure I'll eventually get the money even if I have to file a complaint with the BBB but it's a shame that this is their customer service. read more

Unfortunately, this "hotel" is not as advertised. My daughter and I arrived after 5 pm, after staff had left for the day. We had been driving all day and were looking forward to a relaxing evening. My tiny room was dirty and cheaply decorated. There were zero amenities in the lounge area. Definitely not worth the almost $800 I prepaid for two nights! Our room was too warm and there was no AC. I tried to open a window but one was covered in plastic and the other had a second pane of glass inside which was filthy. I texted the phone number I was instructed to use if I needed anything. I asked for help with cooling the room. I waited two hours without a response - no one ever texted me back! Decided to stay somewhere else because of the poor room condition and lack of assistance. To this day, no one from Marblehead Inn has contacted me. It was a horrible experience and I lost a lot of money. Do not stay here! read more

Stayed here for a few nights, and the customer service was great! They offer a small breakfast and were very sweet about showing me the ingredients on the food items. I am vegan and was only able to eat their bagels, jelly, coffee/juice, and fruit. They also have coffee water and tea downstairs for whenever you want. The front office usually closes around 6 or 8 PM so I would make sure to contact them if you plan to come later so they can leave your keys behind. They also kept our luggage after we checked out for since we had hours till our flight. The hotel was really peaceful and quiet. The only downside is that the rooms are stuffy and there is no ventilation. I would wake up with really bad sore throat from how dry it is inside. The TV is really fuzzy and old. Other than that it was a great stay and a beautiful hotel. read more

Everyone was super nice! And helpful!, the room was nice as well we had room 4 big spacious room very pretty! but my only complaint is when we wanted cold water from the sink it was blazing hot when we tried to use it both handles where HOT water not one cold one hot like a normal sink. read more

Just returned home from a night at this hotel. The hotel is so adorable; it's like a little dollhouse. Upon entering, it was very clean, had a cozy feel and smelled like pumpkins. Our room wasn't ready as we arrived early but the woman in front was very nice and said she would call if our room was ready prior to check in time. The hotel isn't right in the center of the Salem action but it is only a quick 5 minute drive and it's actually nice to not be directly in the center because it's not as busy and it's more serene. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. They offer freshly brewed coffee in the morning as well as fruit, yogurt, granola and some other light breakfast items. We enjoyed our stay very much and will be staying here if we come back to Salem again. read more

Upon check-in, we informed the staff that our remote did not adjust the volume and the TV was extremely loud. She told us we could use the TV on mute if it was too loud for us. When my husband refused to accept that solution, she came back with a new remote and set it up. So clearly, they knew it was an issue, knew there was a check-in, and just decided they didn't want to deal with it. There is no clock, coffee maker, or microwave in the room. There was a coffee maker directly outside the room where we could listen to everyone get their morning coffee. The room was also right next to reception and the front door, so we were able to listen to anyone in the lobby or coming in in the middle of the night. There was a pocket door inside the room that helped muffle some of the noise. Aside from one very friendly employee, they would not even look up from their phones or whatever they were doing to say hello or acknowledge you in any way unless you spoke to them first. On our last day while we were showering and dressing before check-out (11AM), at just before 10AM, an employee used a key to let herself into our room, despite the "do not disturb" sign on the door and without knocking or explanation as to why she was entering our room before check out. To add insult to injury, we were charged $60 over the total we were given from Booking.com. Booking.com is useless, and the hotel refuses to honor the total price we were given from booking.com. Their excuse is that the tax rate changed. We were never informed of the change of given the opportunity to cancel our reservation based on the fact they knew they weren't going to honor the price we were quoted. I've begun a dispute with my CC company. In addition, the hotel is not close to anything, and parking is scarce in Marblehead. read more

What a wonderful and charming inn. We weren't sure what to expect based on the previous review, (the price and central location was great, and we only needed a clean bed to rest our head), so we risked it but were pleasantly surprised. Jeffrey, the Innkeeper, was very nice and shared some history of the building while showing us to our room. He gave us a great dinner recommendation (Jack Tar), too. Best of all was the breakfast -- fresh fruit, muffins and pastries, variety of cereals, eggs, and coffee, coffee, coffee. The common rooms were all very clean and decorated tastefully, traditionally. It's a nice juxtaposition to the more modern style in the suites. We stayed in Suite 10 and were impressed with the space and updates. The kitchenette and complimentary coffee was a nice touch. I wish we could've stayed a little longer, but already made plans to leave early. We'll definitely go back and recommend it to others! read more

I just finished my two night stay at Hotel Marblehead. It appears the hotel has undergone some changes from a lot of the photos associated with their yelp page and reviews posted. I was really surprised to enter the inn to find this remarkably contemporary sailing inspired space. The front desk area felt very open, bright and clean and I loved the little indoor hammocks. The people who worked the front desk were really nice and eager to answer any questions we had regarding the room/what to do in the area for 4th of July etc. I had a king room on the first floor with a rain shower- which I loved! The room was so bright and clean, and minimalistic which I liked as well. The king size bed was very comfortable. The AC in the room stayed cold (it was so hot out the entire time I stayed) so it was nice coming back to a refreshing room. The furniture was accommodating for the length of my stay- plenty of hooks, hangers and little baskets to stow away things. Some closed cabinet space available as well. The room also included a little mini fridge. The bathroom was spacious given the size of the room overall and the shower was seriously the best part. Loved that cascading rain shower head. The subway tiling and modern toiletry caddy was a nice touch. The bath products made available were great too- loved the exfoliating bath soap. The hotel does encourage guests to be quiet in the evening and morning so all guests can get their rest and relaxation. This was very nice especially staying on the first floor. Between 8-10 am there is a breakfast spread of fruit, cheeses, toast and cereal, croissants and other breakfast items to nosh on for a small bite. They also keep Local coffee roasters Atomic coffee on hand throughout the day and an array of teas. This was a really enjoyable stay. This felt like a more luxury/boutique experience which is exactly what I was looking for. The hotel was a 10 min walk to deveraux beach and a very quick drive into the historic part of Marblehead and only an 8 minute drive to Salem. When visiting the area again, I hope to stay here! read more

This is an exceptional inn in every way. We highly recommend it. Sparkling and charming. Mid-century modern style furniture in a Victorian beauty, surrounded by gardens. Spacious room with beautiful bedding. The breakfast was sensational, featuring homemade baked goods and, rare on a road trip, truly excellent coffee. We asked about it and were told that it was craft coffee, brand name "Atomic," from a local business in Salem, MA. We found the website and plan to order some. The coffee was that good. My newlywed spouse and I stayed here the nights of October 31st and November 1st in one of their smaller room. The innkeepers and staff were very friendly. It's just a short distance away from Salem for their Halloween festivities. They had a wonderful breakfast. It was better than continental. They had fresh fruits, several kinds of breads to choose from along with coffee and several teas to choose from. It wasn't your standard toast, bagel and coffee breakfast. They also had a bathtub with jets in it which made for lots of bubbles in the bubble bath. Highly recommended. read more

This newly renovated hotel has the potential to be wonderful. I think they are still working out the kinks but when they do it will be great. It is clean, unique, and friendly. The hotel is a large Victorian house. It seems more like a b&b than a traditional hotel. The inside is renovated with lovely, bright mid century style furnishings. The bed is quite comfortable. The sleep sofa in the suites is not suitable for sleeping unless you want a backache. The hotel serves a lovely breakfast in the morning. There is a kettle in the room to make tea but no tea bags and no coffee maker in the room. The location of the hotel is sort of suburban. It was great for visiting our family in town but for tourists it seems a little funny. But with a short car ride you can get to the nice sites near Marblehead. For late arrivals there is no front desk so be sure to notify in advance if you are coming late so they can arrange a key for you. This hotel seems brand new and that comes with pros and cons but overall the pros win here. . read more

After several weeks at home, we are still marveling over our delightful stay at Hotel Marblehead! This little gem is located in a lovely old historic building, which has been remodeled to include all the latest amenities. We were warmly welcomed by the hotel manager (Teresa?) and very pleased to find, the following morning, a continental breakfast that was really more than...including fresh fruit, homemade pastries, as well as assorted cereals, breads, and French yogurt. Enjoy it in your room, in the lobby at one of the tables there, or, as we did, relaxing on the comfy leather sofa next to the fireplace. Another highlight for us was the Atomic coffee--true to it's name and available 24 hours! The rooms are beautifully appointed and very open, well-lighted, and clean. Very comfortable! We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The inn keepers were sweet and extremely helpful. The innkeeper was so helpful and friendly and took the time to share restaurant recommendations and points of interest. We were only there for one night and we stayed in the map room. I wish we could have stayed longer. It was a 15 min walk in to town, which was well lit and felt very safe. We had an early flight and decided to stay at the MHI instead of a commercial chain at a comparable price and it was well worth it. read more

We just finished our stay at the Inn and for the price it was decent. Incredibly quiet and in a suburban neighborhood. Kind of eerily quiet though, you feel like you need to tiptoe around so that you don't disturb anyone. The only negative I would say is that they were very unaccommodating when we arrived a little early. We knew checking in would be out of the question but called the owner to see if we could store our bags on the property. She refused, despite assurances in the hotel email that they would "be happy to store bags at the front desk." So we had to drag our suitcases through Marblehead (lots of hills and uneven sidewalks) for three hours which gave us cranky attitudes and earned us a lot of strange looks from the locals. Just started the trip off on the wrong foot. Decent Lyft ride distance to Salem. You can't win them all I guess. read more

This place is just perfect. We were in town over the weekend for a family reunion, a few blocks from the beach.It is now under new ownership and completely redone. It's clean and comfy with great accommodations. Our entire family (we had 6 in an adjoining room suite), fit comfortably. The breakfast was perfect and delicious. The staff brought us everything we asked for (free bottles of water, ironing board, extra cribs) and were so gracious and accommodating. I would highly recommend. read more

From the outside and photos this is a great old inn. But inside the historic, old home feel is gone. Yes, the rooms and spaces are clean and working and updated, but our expectation of staying in an old bed and breakfast inn was unrealized. Our room was spacious and modern, had a small kitchenette, and a great comfortable bed. The bathroom was large and overall everything was quite comfy. Books to read on the shelves, and coffee ready to run every morning in the coffeemaker. The one odd, weird, inexplicable lapse was that a big selling point was the bed and BREAKFAST. We stayed five days. No breakfast. Ever. Nobody was even in the breakfast area in the morning, there were no signs explaining why there was no breakfast as promised. Stayed in lots and lots of bed and breakfasts over the years and NEVER had one totally fail to step up and deliver until now. Or at least explain why there was no food at the inn. The only possible explanation seemed to be the large FOR SALE sign out front. Maybe they have fallen on very hard times. read more

Unfortunately a funeral took us up to Marblehead, but considering the saddness of the ocassion our stay at the Marblehead Inn was very pleasant. Inn keepers Karlene and John were VERY accomodating from bringing ice and wine glasses up to our suite, providing a very tasty continental breakfast spread in the homey common area and dining room. Explaining the difference between a B&B and an Inn. Giving us directions. Plastic bags for our dripping wet clothes. The most helpful extension of check out time, due to no where to go in the pouring rain before the funeral. John helped us with our bags and covered us with an umbrella to keep us dry. All the little touches that made for a welcome stay. The house is a charming, old victorian. Very clean. We stayed on the third floor in a very spacious suite complete with a little kitchenette. While other rooms we saw on the ground floor were more decorated, perhaps the suite could maybe use a bit of sprucing up. Grand ole staircase with gorgeous banisters. would stay there again, if ever up in Marblehead. read more

The Marblehead Inn was the perfect location for our three day stay for the graduation weekend at Salem State University. Jeff is an amazing host. The rooms are beautifully decorated, quiet, and comfy beds. The breakfast in the morning was always fantastic with fresh fruit, baked goods, yogurts, and a huge selection of coffee's. Afternoon sweets and wine and beer are served. There is also a fully stocked beverage fridge and and snack trays. All of Jeff's recommendations for dinner were spot on. All in all Jeff and the inn made for a wonderful family event all that much better! read more

The Marblehead Inn seems like a good place. However, when you go inside you are greeted by gentleman named, Jeffrey. He was probably the single most pretentious person I have ever met when it came to staying at an inn. He talks down to people and his precious "breakfast" that is advertised is nothing more than a few stale bagels and old fruit. He was not friendly at all and it ruined our time that we spent at the inn. Hopefully, they get their act together over there. I will say this though, the front desk girl, becca, was very helpful and tried her best. Me and my wife caught him talking down to her and yelling at her for simply not putting the mat underneath the juice away fast enough. I get it, however, don't make someone feel bad because you are clearly not comfortable enough with yourself. Don't stay here its not worth the price! read more
