Looks amazing online. I have always wanted to try brunch at this place. So we did. They had bare nails sticking out of the wall. With nothing hanging on them. The chandeliers looked olde.. And the floor tile was out of the 80's. Now on to the food. I had the crab cake with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. And house potatoes. I will say mine was good. My friend had the fried grouper sandwich and she said it was not good. The prices were good tho on the food. Now for the drinks on the menu they looked good with fair prices. When they came out they were so so weak. I'm talking beyond weak. And our water smelt funny and has a weird taste and partials of something floating at the bottom in both glasses. I really, really want to give this restaurant 5 stars because truly the taste and presentation is there. You can really tell they know how to cook here (sauces, plate creation, taste etc.) I've recently moved from Tampa to the area and was looking for something of quality close to me similar to restaurants I used to dine at in Tampa. However, in order for me to give this restaurant 5 stars, there needs to be a few tweaks. First, the bar service is extremely slow, especially for their speciality drinks. Our appetizers had arrived and we were still waiting on drinks. The description of the Old Fashion sounded amazing, but drink was not good. Appetizers were great. The tostones filled with crab was an explosion of amazing taste in my mouth. Unfortunately the excitement came to an end during our entree. Our plate came out luke warm and was cold within a couple minutes of eating. I really was disappointed with this because the flavor of the dish, including sauce was delicious. The steak from the surf and turf entree was undercooked at a rare temperature when I ordered medium so I had to send it back to be cooked a bit more. Overall we enjoyed our experience with the exception of mentioned above. We plan on visiting again soon. read more

Great food and a very nice atmosphere, my only issues were the wait staff only checked on us twice while we were there (once immediately after bringing our food and about an hour later to bring our bill) and the price, I get that it's an upscale restaurant but it should not cost $45 plus a tip for two people to have breakfast (with no sides or anything, just one meal and one drink each) nor should it be a 3 hour event when we're one of the only two tables in the restaurant. Most of that time was spent waiting on food and waiting to pay, sure we had a good time but it took way longer than expected, thankfully I didn't have work the day we went because I certainly would've been late. read more

I used to love this place Friendly staff and Brian's dad was a funny guy THEN... they moved and that was the end of that. My wife and I were very regular there and the the last time we were there, and yes I mean the last time,we were seated upstairs and pretty much forgotten about. our dinner lasted 3 hours and we never even had dessert. My son wanted to take me to a "nice" restaurant for,my birthday. Having been to Brian's Place many times before, I thought it would be a good choice for Sunday lunch/brunch. We we were all extremely satisfied. I had the crab cakes eggs Benedict which was fantastic! The flavors blended so smoothly and the side of home fries was crispy. My husband had a chicken Reuben he raved about. Son enjoyed the fried grouper sandwich, girl friend had an omelet with sausage, which she said, tasted home made. Lunch was not as good service was ok but I ordered a cilantro steak sandwich and it was mostly fat and uneatable. Made me loose my appetite. Risotto should not be watery! Even tho the server/manager argued thats the way their chef makes it, which is ridiculous, if thats the way you make it then you don't make it correctly. I still paid for it although we didn't eat it. She put us on the spot and asked us if we wanted her to take it off the bill, uh, you're the manager! What do you think? This is one of the best restaurants I have ever visited and I have been a regular since Brian and his dad took over what used to be the Hernando Beach Deli and converted it into the original Brian's Place. Especially when taking into account the price, I don't think you can do better than eating here. If you moved this restaurant to Tampa, St. Pete, Clearwater or Sarasota, you could nearly double the prices of the items and the place would be packed every night. My favorite items here are: Dinner: The Hogfish special. Whenever this is on the menu, just go for it. It is always excellent no matter what else comes with it; and Chipotle Chicken and Goat Cheese Risotto: It is Chipotle-dusted and grilled chicken breast over goat cheese, corn, and chorizo risotto with cilantro. If you can't finish it, I promise you it is even better when you heat it up the next day. Lunch/Brunch: The Fried Egg and Bacon Burger. This burger is one of the best you will ever have, but it can get messy. Get it exactly the way it comes and be prepared to sop up the egg (which makes it even better). Dessert: Always, always, always, ALWAYS get the bread pudding. The other desserts are good, but the bread pudding is so good you may end up in rehab because you can't stop coming to the restaurant to get it. Always listen to the specials whether it is lunch, dinner or during their weekend brunch. There are always amazing things that Brian cooks up, including special types of Eggs Benedict, but I usually opt for Brian's Benedict. It is just that good. A few other things 1. Make sure you try the duck wings at least once. 2. The ceviches are fantastic, but are slightly larger than martini glass sized, so don't get them for an entree. 3. They carry Ron Zacapa and Zaya rums, both of which are great on the rocks after dinner. 4. Upgrading your salad during dinner is almost always a good idea. 5. If you hang around there until closing, you can probably have a drink with Brian because he does take the time to come out and meet his customers. read more

Great potential and lots of great options on the menu. The presentation was great but the food was just okay. We started with the shrimp martini. It was delicious and the highlight of our meal. I ordered chicken Marsala which I normally love. This looked good but the marsala sauce was super sweet. I have never had a sweet marsala sauce before. I let my table guests sample and they had the same reaction --oooh, that is sweet . One person ordered a seafood risotto--can't remember the name but it includes a variety of shellfish. Her assessment was--just ok. I sampled and thought it was overwhelmingly fishy. I am not big on seafood but I do eat it. Another ordered a seafood enchilada in a red sauce and they were thrilled by the look of the food but underwhelmed by the taste. I wanted to love this place because the menu is very creative and we recently moved to the area. The appetizers run in the $10 range and meals around $18-25. I am willing to pay that amount for a very good meal and I would class all of our meals on the low side of average. read more

Thank you, Chef Brian! Last night, we decided it would be nice to head towards the beach and have dinner and watch the sunset. We had actually decided on a place down the road after hearing that the food was pretty good. However, after three employees walked by us without even acknowledging us, (the place was almost empty) we decided our hard earned money would be better spent elsewhere. We got back in the car, headed down the road and had the good fortune to spot your restaurant. From the moment we walked up to the front door, we were greeted by EVERY employee that passed us, and your place was busy! We sat on the patio because it was beautiful out, and you had entertainment. Although the volume was a tad loud, the entertainers were surely doing their best to please the crowd and were super friendly. We enjoyed every moment of it. Our server, Patty was great! In fact, it was really refreshing to be taken care of by someone who was pleasant, friendly and knows what she's doing. Thank you for putting as much thought into the front of the house as you do the back. We told Patty that this was our first visit, and she was extremely patient while we asked questions and took our time perusing the menu. Wow! We were super stoked about what we saw. My husband is a professional private chef who started his career right on the strip where you're located. We were expecting to see the usual offerings from this community, but were blown away that we'd be able to order food that cannot be found on every corner. We started with the clams and sausage appetizer. The broth was so delicious that my husband was tempted to ask for it to go. I decided that I would have your signature Grouper dish, my daughter had pasta with smoked chicken, and my husband, definitely a steak guy, went for the huge 20 ounce boneless Rib-Eye. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare with a nice sear. However, truth be told, even though he said it may have been the best steak he's ever had while dining out, he mentioned that he was a little jealous he didn't order the Grouper. It was THAT good! Although we've both spent most of our adult working years in the hospitality business, and are not easily impressed, you did it. Of course, upon hearing that you make everything in house, including dessert, we decided to share a couple of treats. We had the Cuban bread pudding and chocolate cake. My husband is kicking himself for not ordering a bread pudding to go. I enjoyed a couple of reasonably priced glasses of wine with my meal, and my husband really enjoyed his freshly made cocktail that was obviously not from a mix. Once again, thank you Chef. I recently started working in Spring Hill and have been looking for some places to get lunch to go. Brian's place came up a lot in my search. I love Cuban Sandwiches but don't love pork, so I was excited to try their chicken cuban. I called to place my order and it was waiting for me when I arrived. It was all really easy. My work is about 10 minutes away and when I sat down to eat it was still warm. The sandwich was great, definitely one of my favorite cubans. I would definitely like to sit down to eat one day since I bet it's even better right out of the kitchen. I am definitely adding this to my rotation of lunch spots. I'm craving another chicken cuban and eventually I'll try some of the other tasty sounding things on their lunch menu. read more

We went to Brain's Place while visiting (from Baltimore) relatives in Spring Hill. They had showed us an article about the restaurant and we had scanned restaurants on TripAdvisor for the area. As an added PLUS, there was a Restaurant.com promotion that we were able to take advantage of!! Love a great meal AND a bargain! Our server Jen was very pleasant, informative about the specials and vegetarian choices and very attentive. She has the right balance that it takes to be a server in my opinion. Even though they automatically add in a gratuity when using a restaurant.com certificate, we decided to leave her a little extra since she was so nice. The Menu and Wine list is well balanced for an establishment of this size... although the online menu differed slightly from the actual menu. Again, vegetarian options were available (sometimes hard to find at some smaller places). Once diner had a skewer special (beef and shrimp) very good, one had a vegetian pasta with added deep fried slices of eggplant that were DELICIOUS! To round out our meal there was a chicken Marsala dish (very large protion and the seared salmon - excellent! All meals come with a Ceasar salad or a house salad with balsamic vinagrette... again quite a large protion. The HOT rolls are too good to put down. We didn't have room for dessert, but some of the creations looked scrumptious as we watched them pass our table. On the con side - it was a little noisy inside... bad acoustics and it was a little hard to read the menu (were were in a corner table) To the Plus side - There was live music outside on the porch... a nice touch! There is a separate bar section for anyone interested in drinking or perhaps dining at the bar (if alone). All in all - we have visited a LOT of restaurants in this area and few meet the criteria of being GOOD to EXCELLENT... Brian's Place is among the top 3 based on this visit. read more

Pros: Pleasant enough atmosphere, friendly staff, food was very good. Cons: I can only address two Early Bird Specials - Portions were extremely and I mean extremely small. Four of us had the salmon, one other a chicken pasta special, all served with salad and soup. Salad was served on a small dessert plate, soup in a tiny cup and guessing the salmon was less than 3 ounces served on a bed of rice. The chicken breast piece was about the same size as the salmon served with pasta noodles in a cream sauce. Again the food was very good but served backwards from the menu choice. Soup first (2nd course), then salad (1st course), then the main entrée. Shortly after leaving Brain's Place we stopped for some finger food at a fast food restaurant. i went here a few years ago with my boss, and got food poisoning from their chicken before i even made it to my drive way. i told myself not to go back, but i found myself in there once again for a friends birthday, only to get food poisoning A SECOND TIME with a completely different dish, if you check their health rating on yelp, they are repeat offenders for not keeping their meat at the correct temp. not to mention i've lived in hernando beach for 8 years and i've always known that place to just look mucky and dirty. i'd make a pb&j for dinner before i sat down at this place again. read more

"FOOD POISONING" BEWARE! Group of us went there for dinner last night looking to support a local business. We all had the best of intentions. It started with the male server who was weak at best. He gave the table next us bread and forgot are bread. No big deal. Then he forgot to bring one of the soups. Problem b/c he actually never brought it. We could all get past that. One person in are party had chicken that was uneatable (so tuff it couldn't be eaten). She didn't tell anybody until after we left. She is the type to just never go back. A few of us had the salmon which was dry. Then three of us that had salmon got very sick later that night into the next morning. This is a big problem and completely unacceptable. Bottom line the Server wasn't good and a few of us got very sick. A place like this is dangerous "STAY AWAY". Will contact Board of Health on Monday. read more

Have been here a few times and have always enjoyed it very much. Today was no exception, my friend and I went for an early dinner. 4pm-6pm $9.99 My salmon was perfect as were her shrimp and pasta. The salads were delicious as well. My only complaint would be we were outside sitting by the river. The first table we sat at was extremely wobbley so we changed seats. Had an awesome Birthday dinner in August, so went back to celebrate a friend's Birthday last eve. Brian's, once again, didn't disappoint. We were five happy campers, and the food, desserts and ambiance were top shelf. This is one unique restaurant, and it is #1 in the area for me.
