Our furnace recently went out on a Saturday night, and I called Brian & Sons on Sunday morning. I was impressed with their quick response, but not impressed with their way of doing business. When I called, I mentioned I had a York furnace. When the tech arrived onsite, he immediately knew what the problem was and indicated a part would be needed to resolve the issue. The part however was not available, because York parts are not available on Sundays. Given the part was not available, the tech offered to perform a temporary fix so we would have heat - but then backed out of this idea when he realized the job would take him 30 minutes to one hour of time. So after showing up onsite knowing we have a York furnace, and knowing they cannot get York parts on Sundays, and then deciding not to complete a temporary fix, the technician asked for $128. I questioned what we were paying for, but ended up giving him a check. We later called Brian and Sons office and spoke with the owners - who insisted that we did owe them money, even though they did literally nothing. This is NOT standard industry practice - this is an example of taking advantage of people who have no heat in the middle of February. The other HVAC company we called was entirely different. The instant I told him we had a York furnace, he asked if he could listen to the sound our furnace was making over the phone. Based on the sound heard over the phone, he was certain a part would be required to fix the issue - but was upfront by telling us he could not get York parts on Sundays and it would not be worth it for him to come out. The owner, Debbie, must have me confused with another customer, since I have never gotten a chance to be a customer. The whole story about safety and vicinity is not what I was told. The technician was in Wheaton going to Darien in lieu of Maple Park, where my appointment was, because there was a hole in the wall?? That is what I was told. And NO, I was not reimbursed for anything, so please don't even lie. Prove to me and anyone that reads this that I was reimbursed. When asked why Darien first, I was told the owner told them to go to that one first. NO safety issue was ever mentioned. Then I asked for your name and cancelled my appointment. Last Spring our furnace went out and I interviewed 4 different companies in the Aurora/Naperville area. Brian & Sons stood out as the most knowledgeable, helpful and courteous, so we chose them to replace our HVAC system. This local, family-owned business provides a timely and efficient installation, backing it up with excellent customer service. During the summer, our new AC stopped working and they came out as quickly as possible and looked through the entire system until they found the problem was related to wiring in the house. The technician (one of Brian's Sons) figured out how to fix it and corrected the problem at no charge; there has not been a problem since. We were so lucky to be referred to Brian and Sons! In the first cold snap of Chicago winter, the heating unit in our store went out. After initially speaking with Debbie to set up a weekend, emergency call, a technician was very promptly sent out. Other businesses that we reached out to didn't do commercial, couldn't send someone same day, weren't open due to the Christmas holiday despite being 24/7 repair companies, etc. which was an issue as we had customers to take care of. Debbie sent our technician, Zach, right away. Zach was the ultimate professional, he really took his time to examine any and all issues that may have caused our heating issue and offered plentiful suggestions as to how we could prevent it going forward. Once they had the parts to fix our unit, they returned to the store and completed the work we desperately needed and helped us with another unforeseen issue, no questions asked. I have now contracted Brain and Son's for several services. The first was this summer for a routine AC cleaning and check. The technician was on time, friendly did a great job and no additional cost. Great overall visit. So pleased with service that I contacted them this fall for vent cleaning and dry vent cleaning. I had refinished hardwood floors and the dust was in vents. Once again, easy to schedule, on time and well prepared. Zach and Jacob were very friendly, answered all my questions. They also placed drop cloths on stairs and hallways, wore covers on shoes. Clean and courteous. The dryer vent was a disaster and they went above and beyond to repair detached vent and made sure the vent was properly installed and clean. They had the right equipment for the job and did a very professional job and one week later I can notice an improvement to my dryer and decreased dust in my home. This week , after a furnace inspection , they found cracks in my furnace. They used a camera to inspect inside 20 year old furnace and I am grateful they went the extra step to view the inside as this could have lead to increase CO2 levels in my home. They checked my home Co2 levels and arrange for Debbie to visit for quote on furnace replacement. Debbie was more than professional and friendly. Can't say enough how nice the staff is. I have met 5 members of Brian and Son's and only have the highest praise for the workmen-ship and service. Today I have had a new furnace installed and could not be happier. I am new to Illinois and I rely on online reviews to make decisions on companies I wish to contract. Brian and sons called back within 10 minutes and were at the house in a half an hour, gave me the assessment that I needed a new furnace. Let me start off by saying this family owned business is worth of the 5 stars I am giving them and I don't give these out lightly. In August of 2012, I was 7 months pregnant with my second child and it was the summer of HEAT WAVE madness. Of course, this is when my AC stops working. I called the warranty company (a warranty came with the house) and they told me that they would send some one out ASAP. The first company called and told me they could not come out until Tuesday of the following week ( mind you it was Friday morning). The temps that weekend were in the upper 90's and it was already 95 degrees in my home at 8:00 am. I called the warranty company back and explained to them the situation. They sent out Brian and Sons. Dan was the service tech that came to the house. He inspected the AC and sure enough it was going to have to be replaced. The warranty company well lets just say they didn't want to pay for a whole new unit. But with the help of Debbie and Dan's service report and more of Debbie's help we finally got approved for a whole new unit. Then the warranty company made us play the waiting game.....and we waited almost 13 days to get our new unit. I think we might have had to wait longer had it not been for Debbie's persistence and take charge demeanor with the warranty company. Once the unit was obtained by Brian and Sons Debbie dispatched Andrew. The unit was installed without any problems and this pregnant Momma was in AC heaven. Jump ahead to January 2014 polar vortex. Yep you guessed it our Heat goes out. Once again we call the warranty company and inform them of our heat problem. Again they send out 2 yahoos that couldn't find a whole in the ground if a sign was pointing to it. They tell us our furnace has multiple problems and can't fix it. The warranty company then calls and tell me they will be sending out Brian and Sons. Once again Dan came out and in less than 10 minutes diagnosed a major problem. He immediately informed me that we could not stay in house due to not only the heat being out but also because of a small carbon monoxide leak. He immediately informed the warranty company and they actually quickly approve us for a new Furnace. Over the course of the weekend I was kept up to date on the installation by Debbie. She also informed me that the warranty company was trying to give her the runaround. She told me not to worry she would handle it. On Monday morning she hounded my warranty company about my furnace ( because of course they are dragging their feet)until they give her my furnace Monday afternoon. Again with Debbie's persistence and determination got the job done. They obtained the unit and Debbie immediately dispatched her two sons Dan and Andrew to my home. By 8:00 pm Monday night I had heat again. Brian and Sons were professional, friendly and caring. They took the time to explain things to my husband and I. They held our hand through it all both times and I will always be grateful to them for putting my families needs first. Brian and Sons will not take your money and run. They will do their job to the best of their ability. They will go above and beyond to make sure your heating and air conditioning needs are met. They will not try to sell you something you don't need and they were extremely knowledgeable. read more

We just bought our home and discovered we did not have heat and needed an immediate resolution due to having 2 small children and dropping temperatures. After contacting Brian & Sons we recieved a timely call back and arrival for service at our home. Brian attempted to replace a part for us and went to great lengths to get the part on a weekend. He then spent a considerable amount of time dealing with tech support to get the furnace running but due to issues beyond his control was unable to get the old furnance working. He recommended replacement of the whole furnance and was able to install the furnance before the end of the night. I had an appointment to have my air conditioner cleaned and was called about 1/2 hour before they were supposed to show and cancelled on me. Then I rescheduled it and in the meantime my hot water heater went out and had to cancel because they couldn't be working on top of each other. I had found out the company isn't being run by the family and did not care for the people answering the phones. In the past they were very dependable on making their appointments no matter how late they had to work but that isn't the case now. Now I have changed to another company. read more

I can not recommend these folks. Tech Paul has no personality and is rude. Furnace under warranty cost me $900 in repair for labor. The worst part is that I was charged labor to replace a part that needed to get removed while replacing a second part anyway. It was labor charge on top of another. You can't get through one part without going through the first so why pay labor twice. When I questioned it I was given the answer that the factory only pays them for an hour of time to replace the questioned part so they can't do the work for free as it would take them normally 4 hours. Not my problem on something that is covered end to end (including labor) . Seriously bad practice and I was asked if I wanted to cancel my appointment because I was asking all these logical questions that they couldn't answer. This is not my first dealing. Last time they tried to charge me for labor on a part that was covered under a bulletin by the manufacturer. When I questioned it they back pedaled and agreed and credited me back the labor. Another deceptive practice if you don't watch them. I feel bad for those that do not know any better. They will nickel and dime you as well, even on normal cleanings. read more

I have had quite the ordeal with B&S. My family recently moved out West and the home we purchased still had its original HVAC. B&S came out and provided a quote that was comparable to most other companies, but seemed more knowledgeable than the rest, so we decided to go with them. I've outlined my experience below with dates (I'm Josh, Debbie is {I believe} one of the owners). I lost many work days trying to work with this company with $0 compensation. I hope their product is good because I do not look forward to calling them if the need arises. 12/16/2016 - three techs came out to install new furnace. Before the techs left, Josh asked if his current filters would work and was told 'yes' by the youngest of the techs. Also, Josh was informed AFTER the heater was installed and current A/C was disconnected that they would not be installing the A/C until Spring '17. The techs also ran out of caulk and requested that when the next team come out for A/C install, that they finish caulking the vent exiting the house. Finally, despite Josh's request, the new thermostat was installed where the prior thermostat was - the front of house. 12/30/2016 - tech Paul came out due to humidifier not working and Josh suffering from daily noise bleeds. Wiring during initial install was not connected properly and the humidifier had not been working since install. In addition, the $200 smart thermostat was not installed with the humidifier and was not working as intended. Finally, was informed that current filters would NOT work and needed the cheaper, less effective variant. 1/6/2017 - two techs came out and moved the new smart thermostat, as well as, connecting the humidifier to it. When they left, the light switch in the furnace closet no longer worked. Josh changed the light bulb, but it still did not work. It had worked prior to the techs coming out as they used it during install of furnace and humidifier fix. 3/15/2017 - Josh called Brian & Sons after a very mild winter to schedule A/C install. They recommended 4/21/2017. 4/20/2017 - Josh received call from Brian & Sons that due to a family emergency, they would not be able to make my appointment for 4/21 and would need to reschedule. The next soonest was 4/27. Josh requested to speak with Debbie who informed him that one of the technicians had lost a family member and that they were rescheduling all installs between Friday and "early next week". Josh requested if another install earlier in the week could be rescheduled in order to squeeze the A/C install in. Josh's toddler son (as well as himself and wife) were being forced to sleep in 80 degree rooms whenever it got over 70. Debbie promised to call once they knew more details. 4/26/2017 - A call from Debbie was never received. Josh received call from Brian & Sons (not Debbie) that if it was raining on 4/27 they would need to reschedule the appointment again. Josh requested follow up in the morning as to what next steps would be due to the next 4 days forecasting rain. 4/27/2017 - Josh received call from Brian & Sons that, due to the rain, they would need to reschedule. The forecast showed rain until 5/2/2017, but Josh had business trip, so the A/C install was set for 5/3/2017 at 10am. 5/1/2017 - Josh sent Debbie an email outlining all mishaps throughout this process and requested something for compensation. 5/2/2017 - Debbie sent Josh an email stating that everything would be fixed when tech's came out to install on 5/3/2017, but did not offer anything outside of that. 5/3/2017 - two techs came out and installed A/C unit, as well as, fix closet light. No mention of additional caulk applied to exiting pipe. 5/4/2017 - Josh attempted to call Debbie and was told she would call him back shortly. Never received call back. read more

Before this past winter we had a new furnace, water heater, and air conditioner installed by Brian and Sons. We found out that all of the above items installed by the builder were completely inadequate for the size house we have and explains why our house was never cool or warm enough. Plus our water, heating and air conditioning bills were outrageous. Brian and Sons came in and installed the appropriate items. They were extremely courteous and professional. We felt they were honest about what we needed and affordable. They even called a week later to follow up and make sure everything was working to our satisfaction. Our house has never been better. We even called for a duct cleaning this spring. This whole experience was a big expense for us so getting it right was extremely important. We felt that we made the best choice and would definitely recommend Brian and Sons. read more

Upset to see the bad reviews. I actually had a good experience with Brian and Sons. They were very helpful, professional and respectful of my questions. My furnace just would not operate after hours of troubleshooting, so called B&S and they were quick to help. Tech arrived shortly after call and instead of making me feel worthless, like most of these providers do, he was very courteous and went through the A to Z's to make sure I knew what to do in the future if something went wrong. had a warranty issue with a Bryant furnace. They came and checked out, said the installation had problems, and I would be responsible for payment to fix. Called Bryant sent pics and spec of install and was told everything was fine. The lady at brains was very unprofessional and rude, THEY SAID IT WOULD BE EASER IF I BOUGHT A NEW FUNANCE, I did and its under warranty, Called different contractor and had no problems, WATCH OUT FOR THIS COMPANY, they were trying to sell work that was not needed read more
