The bakery case always looks delicious (though I haven't tried anything from it yet since I always get preoccupied with the coffee menu), and my coffee drinks have been perfect every time. I'm always on the lookout for cafes that serve ethically-sourced coffee that's roasted and brewed with strong attention to detail, and Brewhemia is nailing it. Made a stop at Brewhemia this morning before leaving Cedar Rapids and I'm in love! It's a good thing I'm not a Rapidian or I'd go broke at this place! They serve breakfast food, sweets, coffee and espresso beverages, AND (mostly local) alcohol. The baristas were kind and helpful, and everything we ordered came out quickly and was delicious! The walls feature local artists and even display some artwork from students in the area. I was surprised to see that you could order absinthe in their bar. That's something unique that you definitely don't see everywhere! Do yourself a favor Yelpers and stop by Brewhemia, you won't regret it! I chose Brewhemia on a whim, cycling through the few coffee spots in Cedar Rapids. Lucky for me, I chose a winner. First and foremost, they nailed it with their coffee. For me, I could care less about food and other - the coffee needs to be awesome. Just so it's listed in a review, as of 7/20 they're serving Kickapoo Roasters out of Viroqua, Wisconsin. Solid roaster specializing in FTO coffees. When I stepped in, I was delighted to see a slow bar (Clever Drippers). They had three types of coffee available (Ethiopia Yirgacheffe, Summer Blend, and Dark Roast). I chose the Ethiopia - great decision. While I didn't order it, I was impressed to see a Yama cold brew dripper on the back wall and siphon pot service. Cedar Rapids, you have a coffee gem. The other three folks I was with all purchased bar drinks. Great espresso and crema. Perfectly steamed milk. Polished latte art. Next time, I'll have to stop in later and check out their food and tap list (quite a few Iowa beer companies I've never heard of). Definitely worth a stop if you need morning coffee - and I anticipate their evening service would be great as well. read more

My friend and I ventured here on a very cold winter day but we were quickly greeted by the warm atmosphere of Brewhemia. I was very impressed by how clean and simply decorated this place was. Nice wooden table tops, silver steel chairs, and plenty of space to do work or have a nice cup of coffee with some friends. I ordered a sugar-free hazelnut latte and my friend ordered a dirty chai latte. Both were great! Sometimes sugar-free drinks can be a hit or miss but the latte I ordered was made well. The espresso is pulled ristretto style which gives the espresso a nice bold, less bitter, and slightly sweeter taste which I really like. My friend also enjoyed the dirty chai latte which wasn't too sweet or too milky. The atmosphere of this place is perfect for studying! Not too quiet and not too loud. This place was definitely hip before it was hip to be cool, or cool to be hip... either way, it's a pretty cool little place. Located right across the street from NewBo market, it's a great place to either stop in and grab a drink before going to the market, after going to the market or really anytime you're in the mood for something with caffeinated goodness. It's located inside the ground floor of an old brick building, and has a really need vibe throughout. They serve coffee / espresso, tea, food and have a brew counter is well. Nice to see that they're doing some good stuff with their coffees, including an iced drip preparation as well as siphon pressed. The only bummer about this was the fact that the siphon press is only available in a small pot variety and is something like $15. Definitely a nice treat when you're with a couple of friends, however it's a bummer that there isn't an option for a person to enjoy by themselves. The coffee here is all organic Kama which is not always my favorite - not because there's anything wrong with it, but because I'm not as much of a fan of the flavor for some reason. The beer options looked solid, however given it was 8 o'clock in the morning, I wasn't ready to have a flight quite yet. Definitely something to go back and try. All the food that was coming out looked excellent, and the variety looked just right, with more options than normal for a standard coffee shop. It was a good amount of seating in both front and back of the coffee shop. Plenty of tables for groups or for hanging by yourself. Easy to see why this place is very popular. Stopped here on a fluke, because I needed coffee. Everything happens for a reason, it was a match made to be! Atmosphere: Super cute, unique, and cozy. They definitely arranged tables/chairs etc. to fit as much seating as possible. Clean too! Service: Taking the order: quick, welcoming: A lil bit cold...could have been a lil bit more genuine, but we all have our days. Food: Fresh, delicious, and will not disappoint. The menu has options for ever type of diet paleo to vegan. I would love to come back here for lunch one day. I had the breakfast burrito, and I'm a meat type of girl...but wanted potatoes. Outstanding coffee and menu selections! Today I tried something off their breakfast menu. I was eyeing the biscuits and gravy pretty hard, but went with the Paleo Breakfast Bowl. Delicious...would eat again...tomorrow! I have had many salads, wraps and sandwiches and enjoyed them all. On a side note, their space is super rad. Each time I visit Brewhemia, I have enjoyed my food and my drink immensely. I find their staff to be cheerful, but not overly gracious--but I get that, working in service myself. I do find their menu a little overwhelming--which may be a symptom of my limited access to the place, and not being a regular--but I always manage to find what I want and enjoy my selection. The seating can be a bit cramped, like many a cafe space, and I have seen people unable to find a table forced back out into the weather or left to wait for a table to open up--no one's fault, but definitely something to be mindful of. I definitely recommend Brewhemia, though I wouldn't go out of my way to visit as I might a place which hit the 5 star mark for me. read more

I've eaten here 3 times now and each time the food has been wonderful. No complaints there at all! The atmosphere is great, the service is fast and friendly, and most of all, I've found that when mistakes are made in the order, management is quick to correct it. I don't live in Iowa but whenever I visit, getting breakfast or lunch at Brewhemia is on my list of things to do, as well as a trip down the street to Ray Gun. read more

The coffee is amazing - they carry Ross Street (roasted in Iowa) and Kickapoo (small roaster in WI). The bar might be one of better kept secrets in NewBo. Solid choices for spirits and beer. Fairly certain they always have kombucha on tap as well. Everything is delicious. I'm usually a sucker for an Aesop's Bowl for lunch, but the chicken sandwich is phenomenal. I just moved to Cedar Rapids and I'm so happy I found Brewhemia my first week here. It is the perfect coffee shop in a great location--lots of seating, great coffee, good food and fun neighborhood. I also love that they serve wine, beer and cocktails for after 5/weekends. The staff is very friendly and it's a great place to meet someone or hang out alone and do work (not too quiet, but quiet enough to have a conversation/hear yourself thing). The parking lot is also a great bonus. There are usually spots and it's free so you don't have to worry about your car/meters while you're inside. I ordered a piece of quiche, which was very good, but cost $9.00. For some perspective, New Pioneer Coop used to sell quiche by the slice for only $4.00 before COVID. A small drip coffee is $2.25 or $2.50 - all a little ridiculous. Secondly, the wait time is ridic. They need at least 2-3 more people working there during peak hours. I was there around 9 AM. Oh yeah, what's this whole thing about "Olympic"? I should grade on it, but I'm tired. Seems like it comes from a place of narcissism, as if everyone knows the "Olympic" or at least the cool kids do. It's nice to get a place the doesn't treat you like any less of a person when you order hot chocolate instead of a coffee. And yes, I'm one of those dorks that loves designs in the cup. They get me. They also have a few bottled craft sodas around, which is a big thing for me. There's a bar also which seems to be stocked with good local brews and some adventure too. Their food menu is pretty exciting. I ordered something one day not expecting anything but mediocre coffee house offerings. I was wrong. Their sandwiches and their wraps are more than just basics slapped together. They care about their tastes. Brewhemia is a perfect compliment to New Bohemia as a neighborhood. I'm feeling conflicted about my review. They have excellent quiche, but you have to be careful. The last time I went there I was told they could not reheat the quiche and I had to take it as carryout only . They slapped it in a take out box and handed it to me. No fork, no napkins. They were too busy chatting with one another and my order took maybe fifteen minuites. I happened to walk out past the manager on my way out, who was quite unhappy about that. He took my quiche, warmed it up in the oven and made sure it was properly garnished. This time I got a fork, the napkins, even some cream cheese. Heck, he even gave it to me in a bag to carry it in.
