My wife and I met up with a couple of our friends at this Java House location for Sunday morning coffee/breakfast. Here were our thoughts: Food/Drink: We ordered a couple breakfast sandwiches, a bakery item, and two iced coffees. Breakfast sandwich #1 -- Classic Breakfast (This menu item comes with egg and your choice of bread, breakfast protein, and cheese. Our feeling was that it is just a reliable, run-of-the-mill breakfast sandwich that is comparable to most other cafés. Rating = 7.3/10). Breakfast sandwich #2 -- Morning Muscle (This item was definitely a step up in terms of satiety and flavor when compared to the classic breakfast sandwich. I thought the hash brown and chipotle aioli really added a lot of deliciousness for me. Rating = 8.0/10). Bakery item -- Lemon Poppyseed Muffin (This was the best menu item we ordered on this visit to Java House. The flavor was great, and it is what moved the needle from a 3 to 4 star experience on this occasion. Rating = 8.2/10). Coffee #1 -- Iced Vanilla Latte (For me, the iced vanilla latte is my benchmark order for comparing coffee shops since this was my standard order when I first started frequenting cafés. Java House's is typically almost reaching my top tier, but on this occasion and our most recent visit prior, I've been a little disappointed in the flavor (or lack thereof) of their lattes. The latte was still good enough that we drank it all with no issue, but I've come to expect more out of this Java House location. Rating = 6.8/10.) Coffee #2 -- Iced Hazelnut Latte (Over time, my favorite latte flavor has evolved from vanilla to hazelnut. Because of this - I was overjoyed when I moved back to the Iowa City area in September that Java House had one of the best hazelnut lattes my tastebuds had ever experienced (consistently clocking between a high 8 to low 9 rating). However, on this and my prior visit, my latte was lacking flavor not just in the hazelnut sense, but I could hardly taste the espresso itself. I'm hoping these recent experiences are just a fluke! Rating = 4.3/10). Service: The service here is always solid - nothing exceptional but also nothing to complain about. Ambiance: Similar to the point on service - this location has a nice, clean space with plenty of seating but also nothing to truly unique or special to set this coffee shop apart. All in all, I'm a fan of The Java House and am hopeful they are able to deliver solid 4 (if not 5) star experiences in the future every time we return. read more

I don't know why it took me so long to visit the North Liberty Java House. I was in search for a good salad spot for lunch and it was a bonus that they serve tiramisu! This location is really nice with plenty of seating, friendly service and a drive thru if you are on the go. Everyone enjoyed their food, me included. I got the 1/2 a sandwich and salad combo. The portion size on the salad was larger than expected which was a welcomed surprise because the Caesar salad I order had amazing flavor. I got the tiramisu to go which hit the spot for a dessert treat and appreciated that it was not overly sweet. Before leaving I could help but notice a poster advertising the Strawberry Dream Matcha one of their specialty summer drinks so I ordered it to go. Let's just say I'm still dreaming about this drink. It was sweeter than I would normally order but transported me to a nostalgic memory of the most delicious strawberry milk from my childhood. I will definitely be stopping back by this location. I often get a Cafe Americano here and the Heirloom Salads. The fiesta with some added chicken is my favorite. I love the salads, coffee and treats. My only complaint for food is on their breakfast sandwiches. NEVER choose ham. I can't tell you what it tastes like as it's shaved so thin you can count the thickness in atoms. When you order a breakfast sandwich and they put one super thin slice on... yea. Not with the already inflated prices. I usually don't mind paying a little more for the quality but when the local fast food joint can layer a good .25 inch of ham in a sandwich for less I just can't get behind it. The service is quick and friendly. I haven't been inside to see what the look and feel of the place is but I generally get a feeling of quality. Absolutely terrible. Ordered 2 sandwiches, the bread was burnt on 1 of them, and the other sandwich was not what we ordered. They were out of almost every cookie, so instead of subbing them out they threw in an old stale one that was marked "50% off" (we were still charged full price). This is not a 1 off situation either. Nearly every time we order from them they mess something up or are out of something else. We will not be ordering from them again. read more

Me and my boyfriend are huge fans of the Java House Coffee Roasters Company located in the Iowa City area. We had moved out to Tiffin a few months ago and found that they had a shop in North Liberty which is around 10 minutes away from our apartment. Let me just say we absolutely LOVE it there. It is so calming and peaceful when you walk inside, and the staff is just amazing. My boyfriend goes insane for their monster cookies so we normally Door Dash about $12 worth of cookies every 3 or 4 days. Today, we saw a note in our bag from one of the staff members named Kaleb saying how he knows how much we love these cookies and felt bad that they only had 3 monster cookies left for the day, so he gave us 2 chocolate chip cookies (which are just as good) and a comp card for the next time we come in. We were not expecting that at all, and it warmed our hearts so much to see such a kind, friendly, and caring staff member. Thank you so much to Kaleb specifically, he is an outstanding guy, and we greatly appreciated that sweet gesture. This just made our love for Java House even stronger. This review is about ordering beans online due to the pandemic, not an experience at this specific location. On the fifth Friday of social distancing, I ran out of coffee. Prior to this horrible, no good, very bad day-- I had thought about what my next bag(s) of beans would be. I'm a sucker for convienece; having a local grocery store deliver some not as local beans (cheaper) seemed like a good option. BUT. I have been trying to be more intentional with my monies and support as many local businesses as I can during this unprecedented (not to mention scary) time. I decided I'd go local and check out what The Java House had to offer online. Well, lucky for me folks (and you)... they have all the essentials ready in five sizes of bags and a handful of grind options, too. The pricing is pretty comparable to high quality beans you'll find elsewhere. I opted for St Louis Blues, American Gothic annnnnd Artisanal Cold Blend. I ordered online at 9AM. It arrived on my doorstep almost exactly 24 hours later! Which was good... this mom of two needs her morning cup(s) of coffee. My go-to when at The Java House is the Java Cooler. I can't WAIT to try making my own at home with the Artisanal Cold Blend. Apparently I just brew hot, let chill, and serve over ice. PERFECT for the upcoming warmer weather! Just because we are social distancing, doesn't mean you need to have boring (bad) coffee. Get on the interwebz and order local. read more

My first time to this Java House location and I used the drive-thru. I got my Blender Frappe in the cookies 'n cream flavor ordered quickly. I sat for a little bit at the window. When my drink was ready, a super friendly gentleman in a chef's coat brought it to me. I assume he was the one who prepared my drink. The drink looked good with the mound of whipped cream on the top. The staff person who took my order and money was friendly, too. 4/5 stars because the flavor was a bit milder than I was expecting and I tasted a lot of ice. Still a good drink and I would order it again, just underwhelmed by the flavor. read more

I'm a long time customer of the other Java House locations, but this was my first time at their new North Liberty location. It's smaller than their other locations, with only a handful of tables to sit at and a few comfy chairs and couches. I think a really big draw to this location is that they have a drive thru, making grabbing a quick cup of American Gothic (my favorite) even easier! The location also offers their Heirloom menu which is nice to have as well :) the only thing I didn't love about this location was that their menu doesn't completely match what products they have. I tried to order a sugar-free mocha because it was on the menu but the barista told me they do not offer that. Other than that, this is a great new location that wasn't as crowded as the other locations usually are while still having the same great coffee and treats. read more
