My latte was smooth, hot, creamy and just the right amount of foam, with a pretty heart design on top. The barista was friendly. The day I went, there were more than one group of locals meeting and chatting. So if you don't want the noise, bring headphones or sit at a table on the ground floor. I was in town visiting campus and needed to bring something back for my kids. A friend recommended the store so I walked the couple blocks over from my hotel to check it out. A lot of bookstores neglect books for kids. To my amazement the entire lower level of the shop was for kids. It was fantastic. I walked around for a good 30 minutes checking out what they had to offer. The upstairs has more traditional selection of books. I was in a hurry so I didn't have time to check it out. It was a place though you could easily get lost just browsing the shelves. Looking at some of the reviews I somehow totally missed that there was a cafe attached as well! I'll have to check that out the next time I'm in Iowa City.

I've been working my way through the loose-tea menu. Earl Grey is a staple for me and the blend here has a strong flavor. The Rooibos Chai is very good and doesn't have the Rooibos after taste that my tastebuds do not like. My only recommendation would be a dish to hold the leaves after an adequate amount of steeping time. I've taken to using the to-go coffee lids to hold the mesh strainer and tea leaves. I haven't had a chance to partake in the beer and wine selection, but hope to soon. There is a quite and extensive list to choose from! Staff has always been friendly and the background music perfect in the evenings. I love that the tables are larger than the usual small cafe tables. I can have a giant textbook and a notebook spread out while working. The loveseat in front of the fireplace is popular. One of these days i'll get to enjoy with a good book and a cup of coffee.

The staff member was upset because she had to drive into work today (it snowed). I ordered an iced mocha, and I got a hot mocha. I told her about the error, and she said, "You said a hot mocha." I told her I had said "iced," and she responded, "We don't have any ice." Very strange since I got an iced mocha at that very place the day before. They may have run out, but the whole interaction seemed very strange. After ten minutes of waiting for my (wrong) drink, I ended up with a refund and the motivation to write a review.
