In a world full of trendy coffee houses, it is very easy for one to simply blend in. Having never been to Brewhemia for anything other than a quick cup of coffee, I was not quite sure how it would be for lunch. Would it stand out? Would it fade to the background along with most other coffee shops? Honestly, I thought the food really stood out. The menu was diverse enough to be interesting and the food was surprisingly good. Most of the time, your neighborhood coffee house only has muffins and croissants to choose from. Perhaps they venture to the edge risky and include some kind of pastry. Not Brewhemia. They offered a number of really tasty sounding breakfast dishes as well as lunch sandwiches. I had the breakfast burrito and found it not only to be incredibly tasty but much bigger than I thought it would be. Of course, a coffee shop is only as good as it's coffee. I am very happy to say that the coffee certainly did not disappoint either. The only reason I did not give this five stars was that it took nearly 30 minutes for our breakfast sandwiches to be brought to us. read more

New bohemian style cafe. My go to place in CR area for an awesome vegetarian food. I louvvvvvveeeee their pancakes. And guess what ihop is crying. Lol i love their amazing ambience and love their designs on my cute hot chocolate. So last time I was there with 4 of my friends and it was crowded like a lot. The owner was so nice that she was recommending that table will be open soon. My wife loves their latte cappuccino everything. Very hipster chic inside. Warm and welcoming with a classic exposed brick wall. The service was great! The cashier was very helpful and seemed laud back but not in an inconvenient for the customer way. I got the breakfast burrito with potato and it was incredible! I highly recommend coming here and enjoying a nice drink (the cafe au lait was damn good according to my wife) and eating really well thought out and put together food. Brewhemia had me the minute I heard its witty name. Brewhemia in New Bohemia. Clever. This is a rad coffee shop in a historic hall in the heart of a trendy CR district. It definitely is a cool play on words, paying tribute to its community and neighborhood while also letting potential customers know EXACTLY what lives here. A brew. And when I say brew, I mean brew. A nice cup of joe awaits you at Brewhemia as does a local craft beer, glass of wine or even a cocktail-- if you so choose. It is a light and bright shop with friendly staff. There is tons of low top and high top seating, as well as stools to sit at the counter. I really liked that there were plenty of spots with only two seats. Perfect for folks coming in to spend an afternoon getting some work done. All the must-haves are on their menus-- pricing seems on point. (Paleo and gluten free options are available!) Parking is a non-issue with a lot nearby. The only reason this isn't a five star is because of their hours. 7am during the week and 8am on the weekend-- seems a bit late? That COULD be my 'parent-of-kids-who-rise-with-the-sun-and-I-really-need-a-coffee-right-when-I-get-up' talking. A vanilla latte is always my go-to when trying a new coffee spot; theirs was perfection and out in a jiffy. Their kitchen is open till 2pm, come checkout Brewhemia in New Bohemia. Brewhemia is truly a gem and the perfect place for a casual weekend breakfast. The food is delicious and the coffee even more so... I always order the breakfast burrito when I'm there and I'm always surprised when I realize I've eaten the entire thing, which is bigger than my head, in under 15 minutes. It's just that good! The other menu items are also good, like the breakfast bowls and sandwiches, and always have a well-rounded flavor. The coffee is high quality and tastes like it. The tell-tale sign of a good brewing technique. The only reason I didn't give this place a full five stars is the seating situation, which can be cumbersome if you have a group of more than two people. Seating is on a "first come, first served" basis here. This wouldn't be an issue, except for the people who come here with their laptops to work on a Sunday and take up a six-person table by themselves... I understand that Brewhemia itself might have a hard time regulating this, but it is a point of anxiety for me and should be taken in to account when planning a group meal. read more

I need to start by saying that I LOVE this restaurant! It is exactly the type of vibe that I like- smaller restaurant, cute area with Newbo around, and excellent food. It gets 4 stars from me because the service is consistently slow. I've easily been to the restaurant 50 times because I love it so much. If you're okay with taking your time then this is the place for you. But if you're a person there by yourself and looking for some quick food to go this place is not the option you're probably looking for. But if you want a coffee and a nice place to do some work for an hour or want a place to grab brunch with friends then this is the place for you! read more

This is a cool place to just hang out! I happened to be visiting my uncle and he let me choose a place for brunch. Pulled this place up on yelp and it sounded good. This place is right next door to Newbo City Market and is a great place for vegetarian, vegan, or paleo diets. My uncle built is own breakfast bowl and 2 chocolate chip pancakes with coffee while I got the Mother Nature bowl with an iced chai. Both of us agree that everything is delicious! The pancakes are huge! Covering the entire plate. You get toast with your breakfast which is not listed on the menu, handmade, delicious, and just the right crunch. And the chai happens to be handmade. Spices are mixed together and then added with milk. At first I thought it was very weak but the more you drink, the more the flavor comes out. I attempt to avoid eggs, dairy, and gluten, so breakfast can be a tough meal to eat out, if you don't want oatmeal. I was able to eat a yummy breakfast here! My avo toast consisted of: gluten free bread avocado the BEST sautéed mushrooms, peppers, and onions I've ever eaten diced tomatoes sunflower sprouts Reason for one less star? It cost me $9.00 for just one slice of toast with those fixings! Feedback to the business? Find a balance between recouping your costs + making profit vs. overcharging for alternative food options. My husband and I decided to stray from our normal coffee shops and make the short drive down to Cedar Rapids. I had seen Brewhemia all over instagram and yelp, but had yet to try it. I'm so glad we did, and I can see why it's a favorite! On a Saturday morning, this was a busy, busy place, but our service was prompt. When the man in front of us forgot his wallet in his car, the lady at the desk was so sweet, reassuring him that she would save his order while he got his wallet. I know that sounds silly, but having been on the other side of forgetting a wallet, I was impressed with how both handled the situation. We've been back a couple times now so I've tried a few different things - their lattes are simply amazing, both iced and hot. I'm excited to try some food sometime as well! read more

Lunch combo is a perfect, healthy and lighter alternative than many spots you'll find in our area. I always love a good Mediterranean salad so that's an easy choice for me! The cinnamon roll - didn't get it this time - is quite divine. I make it my mission to try cinnamon rolls in most breakfast place so I visit and I'd give this one a solid 7/10. The Aesops bowl is a fun, fresh and lighter take on a protein rich breakfast. I've had it before but this time noticed the way the eggs were cooked was not to my preference. Always like they'd poured them onto a griddle and flipped like a pancake. I didn't take a photo cuz frankly I left most of them in my bowl. Maybe would be a better option to ask for them prepared differently next time? Either way, I'm not a huge egg fan so it just made my meal a little less hearty but still tasty! The fresh veggies and sprouts + hummus made for a perfect pair to the sourdough toast. My sister got a simple avocado toast which she enjoyed. What a wonderful spot to grab a coffee after browsing all there is to offer in the NewBo Market! This has become kind of a tradition when I'm up in Cedar Rapids. Even if I'm several coffees in for the day, I can't turn down a chance to grab something here. I haven't had a chance to try any of their food, but all the photos on Yelp and Instagram make me feel like I need to move that up to the top of my list. I really love their chai, lattes, and vanilla lattes. The service is speedy and the baristas are kind, talented humans. For me, it's a no brainer to support this local spot! read more

It's been almost 9 months since my initial review and lots has changed at Brewhemia... The location: they moved down the street to a larger, more beautiful location. The menu has expanded drastically offering hot breakfast (the breakfast sandwich is AMAZING , I prefer mine on a croissant....or for a healthy and delicious option, try one of the beast bowls). There are also lunch options. The kitchen closes at 2 so you are out of luck for dinner. They also have beer on tap and cocktails. Again, many changed, yes...but one thing remains the same. The coffee is still, hands down, the best I've had in the state of Iowa. I've had only positive encounters with the owner... I think she remembers me from our Aug '16 encounter, but neither of us have brought it up. She treats me with respect and appreciation...just as I've seen her do with all of her other guests. We'll just chalk that day up to the stresses of relocating a business and move forward. read more

Pretty impressed by the blueberry pancakes there. It's very soft and giggly. We ordered an Absinthe there in the morning just wanted to have a taste. The owner of the store told us no one ever ordered it since the opening of the store. Thus he gave us for free!!! Anyways, we had a very very good experience there. Lovely coffee shop that has awesome meal food. I've tried the chorizo quesadilla (excellent and spicy if you ask for it that way), the parm crusted grilled cheese (phenomenal if you're a cheese lover), and the alambre burrito (the ultimate hangover cure). I've never seen a big line, and the food has always come out quickly. Although it is often packed, so I'm not sure how well bringing a big group at peak time would go. They clearly also do a brisk lunchtime to go business. They offer a "fast lane" for those just looking for coffee, which I think is brilliant. The coffee is apparently quite good, although I found the hot chocolate to be a bit underwhelming (it tasted more like hot milk than hot chocolate). Overall, I'll definitely be back for more food - there are still some options that are calling my name. read more

Oh my heck! What amazing food! We went this last Thursday for their new grand opening in their new location where the Chrome Horse used to be before the fire. The new location is stylishly decorated. There are neat floors and beautiful marble countertops. It is bigger than their old location. I ordered a Parmesan crusted grilled cheese sandwich. My mouth is watering now just thinking about it.
