This is apparently a neighbor staple and favorite for locals where most folks all know each other. It was suggested to us to come for breakfast so here we are, all six of us. The inside is a smaller version of what you see when you go into the chain breakfast spot that ends with hop. Tables and booths for you to choose to sit at. With that said, we were seated and given a chance to review the menu. I opted for the meat lovers omelette which came with hasbrowns and a choice of toast or a pancake (opted for the pancake). I also requested to add cheese. Food came to the table but we had to flag down the waitress to bring us some silverware. The waitress was friendly and kept our cups filled. Now not being from this area I'm not sure if it's a regional thing or just a here thing but what I got wasn't what I was expecting when I ordered an omelette. Omelettes are usually fluffy and filled with ingredients on the inside. This was more of a whisked egg that cooked on a flat griddle and cooked. Sadly the slice of cheese added hadn't melted so there's that as well. I had asked for my hash browns to be cooked hard (crispy), what I got were taters browned on one side and very soft on the other. I think that there was a mishap in the kitchen as I didn't get my pancake until the end of the meal and it didn't have much flavor to it and overall the whole meal seem to lack any seasoning (once again not sure if that a regional thing as I found this to be common during my stay). The meal was affordable but it was a basic meal. Should I come back I think I'll try the chicken fried steak which someone in my party ordered and raves about. read more

Second time eating at Larry's, and it was every bit as good as the first! I had the meat lover's skillet with a side of gravy to pour over it, and it was spectacularly tasty. The combination of the flavors in the pan make a very hearty breakfast. The service was fast and friendly. Everyone else at the table enjoyed their meals as well leaving six empty plates and six satisfied diners! Stop in and enjoy some great cooking and outstanding service. read more

Tried Larry's for the first time today. The place sent me back to 1972. Which was good. I half expected to see Jerry Reed and a Basset Hound. I enjoyed the nostalgic memories. The prices were VERY reasonable. The service was fine and friendly. The food, however, was a grade or two below average. My wife said her french toast didn't have much taste and the syrup was cold. My western omelette wasn't an omelette at all, but rather the stuff mixed in with scrambled eggs then left to cook on the grill. That's a lazy way to make an omelette and it shows in the taste. The hash browns were good, though. We would be reluctant to come back based on the food, but what clinched it for us was when we went to pay. They add a 3% surcharge for debt and/or credit cards. There were no signs on the door for us to see walking in. There were no notes in the menu or from the server. They did have two signs at the register, but let's be real, no one visiting for the first time goes straight to the register scanning for policies. It is up to YOU, the business, to let me know things like that up front. Lucky for us we had just enough cash on us for the bill and a 15% tip, but we are not inclined to ever come back. read more

On the way to Galena, IL my fiancee and I were looking for a filling breakfast and settled on Larry's Place. The place is unassuming. Your usual fare is offered. I had the 4 egg omelette and it was very good and the hash browns we're perfectly cooked. My fiancee had a skillet and said it was the best she ever had. No hyperbole. Decided to try something different today. Larry's is a small town diner that is dated, but that is what also brings charm to these local restaurants. We had just missed a large rush with the tables that we're waiting to be bussed by the staff. The hostess pulled apart tables for us the seat and this was where we got to meet our gem of a waitress. She was not happy with where the table was put and began to point this out and then moved the table only to move it yo the exact spot the hostess had placed it. We ordered our drinks which came promptly and ordered. My wife had the 3 pc french toast with bacon which was done great. I opted for the crispy buffalo chicken wrap. The wrap was very good just the right amount of buffalo sauce. I also had french fries and onion rings. I had asked for ketchup when the food was delivered which the waitress acknowledged. I am still waiting on the request as some people the waitress knew came in and received all of her attention at that point. We did interrupt her when going to interact with her favorite table to get our drinks refilled at the end of the meal as that was our only attention once we received our meal. I give the food 4.5 stars but opted for the 3 stats do to the waitressing we received. If you want a good meal this the place if you can get past subpar service. read more

poor Stopped in 6-6-20 got sat down ordered some simple breakfast items and coffee it was cold and never drank it(clue one wait staff) I had to go and find my own table ware spoon ect... (clue two wait staff) no water had to ask for that. got a glass drank it asked for another and so did my child well we got one! Larrys is getting one Star for not being shy on the serving size other then that the place is ran down wait staff is poor at what they do. You'll do better elsewhere. read more

Although, the place isn't much to look at, it is a great place for breakfast. If you can get past the old tables, decore, and ripped seats you will be very pleased with the price, quality, and quantity of their food. Way better than those big chain breakfast places. The waitresses were very freindly and efficient. Coffee was great too! We only had time to visit for breakfast, but will definately stop by for lunch the next time we are in town. read more
