I'm sad to say I agree with everyone on here saying the staff is rude. I used to go there quite often and never had a nice experience with any of the staff members. I find this puzzling as it seems as though the owner is rather relaxed, which is the vibe I get he would want the restaurant to have. Maybe get new staff or tell them to be kinder and the vibe will come naturally, because the aesthetic of the decorations is there :) On the other hand the food is very good..good luck standing the staff, tho! read more

This business recently switched their location from Main Street, but it is not clear if they have a new owner or a new manager as ALL of the staff (ALL 6 of the people there that day) were extremely RUDE to me at their new location. NO ONE was ever rude at the previous location. I hope the business owner corrects their employee's RUDE behavior before it causes them to lose more customers. I was excited to try this place while visiting Keene, but after ordering 2 vegetarian sandwiches, an avocado toast, and buffalo cauliflower, I then waited 40 minutes for my food. I asked the cashier after waiting 30 minutes if they knew how much longer and they replied "it usually takes 40 minutes here." This a) seems a bit crazy for a sandwich type of place and b) I wish they had informed me of the wait when ordering. While standing waiting for my food, the supervisor told me "you might as well sit down and get comfortable, standing isn't going to make the food come out any faster." This was extremely rude and unnecessary, and I truly couldn't believe this was how the supervisor spoke to customers. The behavior of the supervisor ruined my experience. I was going to go to Starbucks, but I read a post on google by a customer upset with the gender neutral (single stall) bathrooms, and I loved the honesty and clarity that Jeff (I assume is the owner or manager) responded with. So! I decided to try this place out. It's a hip spot with great coffee... or atleast the mocha was great! I like that they use reusable mugs for people staying and they recycle. I tried the vegan banana bread- it was pretty good, but I'd like to see more vegan options ;). It was busy when I got in (rainy Sunday afternoon), but after it calmed down it was a nice place to sit and get some work done. Looking forward to coming back. read more

I can't say enough about this place! We make the drive from Southeastern Mass up to our cottage in Vermont several times a year. We like to stop in Keene on our route because of the restaurant and shopping options in town. Who am I kidding, we mostly stop because we are Jones'n for the coffee at Brewbakers!! I consider myself an expert on doughnuts (donuts) and the old fashioned doughnuts are AMAZING. The other ones are great as well. I had something called a "school bun" the other day and it was next level. A baked doughnut with a creme filling and then a jam on top. I hope that stays on the menu. Stopped here for lunch driving through Keene. I generally only rate places I have something good to say about, but am making an exception in this instance. We got the rib sandwich, arepas, and pretzel. Everything but the sandwich was inedible- and the sandwich was only edible by comparison with how bad everything else was. Somehow both dry and greasy. Some things were flavorless and others the flavor was was just wrong. We threw it away and started over. This is not the place to stop while driving through Keene. read more

Wanted to love it but they made it impossible. Breakfast ends at noon despite the ability to get sides of bacon, eggs, bread etc. Avocado toast was so heavily salted, and served on toast that had to have been toasted 20 minutes prior, that I couldn't even eat it. Service was done at a snails pace despite having 10 people behind the counter. 30+ minutes for our food to come out. Coffee was good and is what earned it the second star. read more

And if by hipster wait staff they mean liberal arts students and young locals, then yeah, this place is run by some hip mother truckers. Oh, and whoever mentioned that these people have no interest in coffee didn't meet the owner who bought the roaster when he took control of this place to have his own hand in improving the quality of the coffee. Drinking a triple-shot hot mocha that for the first occasion in I-don't-know-how-long isn't saturated with chocolate. Simply a nuance of flavor and enhancement. I swear. Every time I am in here, its under a different owner. C'mon owners! Its not hard to follow cafe-supply-etiquette. Step one: Do NOT provide mass produced store-bought pre-frozen baked goods; its may cost less, but your patrons are definitely going to notice. Step two: Provide a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere; I cannot think of anyone I know who goes to a cafe hoping for bright lights. Step three: Adjust your hours to the types of patrons you want/will receive based on your location. Just a hint: you're less than a quarter mile from a decent-sized liberal arts college. Think about it. Step four: Be picky with your staff. The more friendly, kind and interesting they are, the more likely your patrons will leave with a good impression; having two-dimensional, overconfident prats with no interest in coffee is SO not that way to go. Yep... simply put, I was SO disappointed with this Terra Nova dark roast I had. Either the kiddo behind the counter failed at making a pot of coffee, or the roasters are getting lazy. I'm going to for the first one: flavor and flavor profiles... learn 'em. And c'mon! If they roast their own coffee, why not offer french-pressed coffee for more money for those staying in the cafe? I snagged a pinch of my friend's muffin: it tasted more like eggy bread than it did a strawberry-what-have-you muffin. Brewbakers, I come back to Keene only once or twice a year. Great place to get a cup of coffee or tea and read a book or do some work using their free wifi. I'm not a huge coffee drinker but I thoroughly enjoy Brewbakers coffee. I'm actually writing this review from Brewbakers and drinking a cup of their Fireside coffee blend - its only around for the next month or two, so if you get a chance come in a grab a cup - its delicious. I haven't had food other than a cookie or brownie but they were yummy. They have beef and turkey stew pot pies that look delicious as do the quiches. Sunday nights they have open mics, which I have been invited to play but have been unable to do so - but if you are a musician in the Keene area, I would really recommend checking out Brewbaker's Sunday Open Mic. The new owner is such a great guy and everyone that works there is friendly. Prices are better than reasonable. I'll be coming back! read more

Hard to get a seat so i always get to go, the Ginger/Lemon/Honey is my go to, I will get every time. They make espresso's, coffee, tea, chai, latte, all very good, very robust flavors here. Coffee is a daily necessity in my life, I was very happy with my order of a dirty ice chai latte and breakfast sandwich. Everyone else in my party was happy with their orders too. The service was quick and the baristas were ready with suggestions and able to to help my less coffee inclined friends stumble through lingo till they could decide on what they wanted. All of this was complimented by the atmosphere and aesthetic. Truly one of the best coffee shops I've been to in awhile. read more

I went back now that ownership has changed hands. My coffee was amazing, properly made and in it's own ceramic re-usable/cleanable mug. Added to he amazing coffees was an array of homemade quiches and pot pies. Had I not eaten 10 minutes earlier, I would have LOVED to try one. Here's to yet another Keene spot I've visited innumerable times, and am now just getting around to reviewing. Essentially, Brewbaker's offers the freshest, most sizable variety of cold and hot drinks in Keene, all the while for some pretty reasonable prices. In the morning, you won't be disappointed by their selection of house coffees, their espresso with a kick, or even their Mayan hot chocolate with spiciness and sweetness evenly matched. Yet, depending on one's appetite come brunch/lunch hour, one may be slightly surprised. They do offer fine sandwiches (Turkey Maple Bacon on Five-Grain) and sizable salads, but at least the last few times I've gone, perhaps not in larger portions or as price-competitive as their drinks. Still, with drinks in mind, one will not be disappointed by their Italian soda selection, Irish cream flavor and beyond. Plus, there is a truer coffeehouse feel to Brewbakers, the darker interior feel mixed with eclectic art on the walls and worn wooden booths on the side. It is definitely worth at least the morning drink when in Keene. read more

Lots of places to sit (but the tables are really only big enough for a laptop or a cramped coffee/lunch date... they have one booth which you may have to wait for if your work requires you to spread out a bit). They had an internet radio station playing (no ads, woo!) which I enjoyed very much. My husband and I sat for a few hours in the morning/early afternoon on a Wednesday to get some work done. Brewbakers is family owned by Jeff and Eliza Murphy, who also have their own coffee bean roasting company called Terra Nova Coffee. Terra Nova is USDA certified organic coffee and it is always super fresh and tasty. You can drink Terra Nova at Brewbakers and buy a pound of it freshly roasted to take home. Brewbakers is the only coffee shop I know in Keene that makes their coffee with only organic coffee beans. Prices might be a bit higher but I think it is worth paying for coffee that I know was grown according to USDA organic standards and without pesticides. And with the frequent buyer card, which gives one free drink after 8 drink purchases, prices are the same, if not better, as elsewhere on Main Street. In addition to organic beans, Brewbakers also uses only organic soy milk, hormone-free cow's milk, and soda syrups that are free from harmful preservatives like potassium sorbate. Service is always friendly, with a steady stream of Keene Staters and others working behind the bar. There is also usually good music playing from a Pandora soundtrack. If there are any negatives, it would be that over several years I have, on a few occasions, seen flies buzzing around. And, also on very few occasions, my order got forgotten, so I had to remind the staff to make my drink. read more

If you want to feel awkward and pay a premium for acidic coffee then check out Brewbakers. I always try out the local coffeehouse in every town I live or stay in because I expect the barista to take pride in what he serves. In my opinion Brewbakers is just a dirty room of hipster kids trying way too hard to be cool and apathetic which comes off embarrassingly awkward. And the coffee taste just like Starbucks. FYI the coffeehouse scene has been around since the 60s and unfortunately there's nothing original about this place. read more
