Why is it, the food in the hot food section of coops, are just about _always_ superior to restaurants? I can name only two restaurant meals that beat coop food. French restaurant in Old Town Albuquerque NM, and Mexican restaurant in Manchester NH. Anyways, I love the bulk food and spice section, to get what you want in the quantities you want. The Mr said some of the prices were better than our usual chain grocery store, but some prices are very high. Alas, we live too far to make this a regular stop. read more

Grocery is fine. They have great service and very nice cashiers. The food court including salad bar was meh but had protein bowls and salad bar for our group of 6 to have lunch during our busy day. I love this place. It's sincere and I imagine Whole Foods was probably like this when it was starting out. Their meat, produce, coffee beans & everything else is pretty epic. We like their cookies too that remind me of a 1970's school bake sale. My only complaint is that some of the prepared chicken salad is pretty iffy. The last batch had a bunch of shallot skins in it and the chicken is never cut in even sized pieces--it's just weird and not great. We bought some of their hanging plants that are gorgeous. The service is awesome and the staff is cheerful, professional and nice. It's not perfect but it's a million times nicer than WFM or other market chains. read more

Passing through VT/NH? Our Keene St. niece recommended this place for their local beers, and we found so many neat things while there. From the inviting grocery section to the local meat and cheese, this place is what Whole Foods can never be. Come with jars or plastic bags for the spices, grains, and protein in the bulk aisle. Come Christmas shopping for the artisan baskets displayed above the produce section. The Swanzey SW turkey avocado sandwich was a fun end of Thanksgiving break, complete with sprouts and chipotle mayo. The PBJ and Banana on sourdough was worthy of a tall, cool glass of milk. The Cuban covered all the savory/sour notes! Some of the sandwiches are already prepared in the deli case if you need a little steering. You can grab lunch for $10 or less, even if you're not a co-op member, but we ended up filling the cart while we were at it. Smaller that supermarkets but still a well stocked, this is oasis hiding just off Main Street, and better yet, this co-op has its own parking lot (car and bike). No playing with parking meters or gambling on the cross walks on the way to this cozy and colorful spot. read more

A great natural and organic grocery store with lots of not organic mixed in.. prices are higher than most other grocery stores.. their salad bars is never full or clean and I have been a dozen plus times.. I ordered a hand prepared dish, of brisket and veggies and rice there were 5 tiny pieces of brisket that was not edible do to 99percent fat... the sexy Che desert was the best, however they charge more than anywhere else read more

The expansions and improvements to the co-op since opening have really made this a nice local grocery store. Staff are friendly, the store is clean (these are probably the cleanest public bathrooms in Keene), there are many local options for produce, meat, and more. The co-op has many more non-vegan options for ready to eat food than when I first reviewed them, and this is somewhere you can go with a group who have a dozen different dietary restrictions and probably still feed everyone. Grocery shopping here is significantly more expensive than elsewhere but that's America and the difference between subsided large scale factory and monoculture farming vs smaller, more sustainable operations unfortunately. The quality of certain meats is much better here than elsewhere (the co-op's Smart Chicken puts Hannaford chicken breasts to shame), although the house sausages are ground too finely and are too lean, so they have a mealy texture. Overall, I like supporting the co-op and going here for some items, but choose not to do all of my shopping here, primarily for financial reasons. read more

My girlfriend worked here for a little while and they are very respectful place to work for they have great benefits as far as a place to shop you can't go wrong with the return policy you can go in there without your receipt without the leftover bit of whatever it is you had an issue with and they will still take your word for it respectfully give you your refund and you can't get that in a lot of stores I can honestly say I think I've probably been disrespected at least once in every place I food shop just because of rude people but I've never had that encounter here I highly recommend this place to go food shopping it's worth paying a little more to buy local and fresh!!!! I'd like to see a store that was neutral to all viewpoints and just focused on local, healthy foods and artisanship. Large produce department, great selection of grass fed cheeses and meats, both fresh and frozen meats, ample supplement department, prepared foods section, and the usual suspects as far as chips, crackers, snacks, and beverages. if you want a fresh salad or hot meal for dinner you better show up by noon or you will either get vegetables and rice or the chicken they can't keep the levels the same with the staff. The salad was always wilted and I said something now there's just less wilted salad. Not to mention they close the hot bar at 7pm so I would go as far as to say they serve lunch but I'm no way do they make any effort at having food for people that work normal hours. I'm not sure how I never stumbled upon this cute co-op in the past. The building did look new and has some expansion related construction going on. Very nice parking lot with plenty of parking and the store had a modern feel. Fantastic selection of veggies. Although, I didn't see any cucumbers which was odd. I ended up getting about a pound of orange whopper tomatoes. I've had a hard time finding good ones this year but having already tried one that I purchased I can say these are home grown and have an amazing taste. We also liked the eclectic selection of beer, although some were quite pricey. I thought in general many items were a bit more than other places but I think in general the quality in the co-op is better than a regular grocery store so I can see why it's a bit more. We ended up buying a fruity gose beer made locally. I probably wouldn't do regular grocery shopping here (even if I lived in the area) but those tomatoes are next level good so I'll be stopping in again just for those in the near future! read more

Monadnock Food Co-op is one of the most consistent food co-ops /natural food markets over the years I've been going to after I've lived in many different places. Their produce is as local as it gets and I can say with only a few exceptions over the years that I can find everything I need in this store for numerous recipes I've done as it's size provides a decent selection and a range of products in most categories. Local breads delivered on different days. Good beauty/self care products (shampoos, lotions, toothpaste, etc) and odds and ends like cards and candles can be found here as well. The staff is overall friendly. Can't say I've taken advantage of it recently but they do offer numerous sandwiches to order if you need something quick which look creative. LOVE their made in house deli to go salads/sides like the "omega" and they do a mean chicken or tofu yellow curry salad! Wine and beer selection is smaller, but well curated with local NH and otherwise options. Keep in mind to bring your own shopping bags- they don't provide them but do have reusable ones to buy or you can use numerous cardboard boxes they provide for free at the checkout to haul your stuff too. A quick note on prices: Yes some (not all) their prices for items are higher than other chain mega markets, but for someone on a budget comparing prices I've had plenty of times items were same or cheaper on a wide range of items than competitors for local strawberries, cereals, etc. All in all you are missing out of you don't check this place out! read more

I always get a smoothie (the Green Dream is to die for) and pick up some deli salads too. First time here, reminds me of Whole foods. Prices are just under Whole Foods prices. Love the grab and go meals, also the selection of ready made foods. Salmon, meatloaf, half chicken and chicken tortillas along with sides, potato salad, coleslaw etc. looked amazing. Only gripe, I wish they had tags for Keto options, it was hard and time consuming finding the Keto items. read more

This place is amazing, a gem in the Monadnock region. It is much like the Brattleboro co -op(which is still more amazing!!). They offer many local and organic options. The sales are really great. I had the luck of it being around for part of the time when I worked at Nicola's. I could grab stuff to make breakfast or lunch for the next day. The local sausages are amazing the Pork maple bacon is a home run. They also have lamb and chicken ones too. You can get fresh fish and hormone free meats. Great beer selection too. You could grab everything you need for a picnic. Cheese selection is pretty good, they carry authentic cheese curds. They also have a juice bar and deli. Deli is kind of pricey, but for the salad bar it is only a couple dollars more a lb than Hannafords and it is all organic. read more

Not a great place for lunch I feel like it doesn't matter what i get i feel sick after whether it be the soups, good salad bar, or other food options. The grocery option(s) are a little weak, although the specialty items are vast and as compared to other grocery stores. Prices are high as compared to Whole Foods or Trader Joes. I would say 33-percent mark up. I am not totally sure what the deal is with the ownership stock option thing but it feels like no one has it and from reading the the discription sounds like little to no benefit. Access to this location seems like a little bit of an after thought. We access from through the railroad station. For the prices and how often i feel sick after going here i would just go to the Green Grocer in Peterborough or something in Burlington. read more

Definitely a nice addition to Keene. So excited it's open, we've been waiting for a year+!! Although I live in Jaffrey, I'm in Keene 3-4+ days/week so I've been doing my organic produce & bulk-bin shopping here recently. Mostly organic produce, they label it "organic" or "conventional" and/or "local". VERY good prices for organic produce. And I appreciate that they have greens in bulk bins so if you only need a handful, you can & you're not stuck having to buy a big pack of it. I've been to seriously half a dozen stores (yes, little local market & grocery chains alike) trying to find organic grapes with no luck but they have them here - YAY! Happy-dance. WONDERFUL selection of bulk-bin items. Things I've never seen before: falafel mix & split pea soup mix. Nuts, grains, candy (jelly beans, gummy bears, chocolate-covered nuts/seeds), snack mixes, the best selection of bulk-bin granola anywhere, flour, I may have seen GF flour in the bulk bins but I might be mistaken, sugars, salts, dried peas & beans, cereals, vegan carob chips, chocolate chips, etc. Great selection of bulk herbs. Coffee. Two kinds of grind-your-own peanut butter which is the only kind we'll eat (the stuff out of the jar, even organic, is nothing compared to freshly-ground). Maple syrup in bulk. Honey in bulk. Okay selection of shelf-stable organics, but this isn't stuff we buy much anyway so I could care less. Was pleased to see organic canned coconut milk as I haven't seen that before. Some Asian shelf-stable stuff, conventional shelf-stable stuff. Elm City bagels, $1 each, 3 for $1.99 day-olds, or bags of them in the bread isle for $4.99/bag of 6. Pretty pricey for how small they are, even the day olds. Good selection of local bread, buns. No vegan butter :( . They do have vegan spreads, but no vegan butter sticks. Local milk, cheese. Organic ice cream, yogurt, butter, other dairy products. Wish they had Stonyfield Farm soy yogurt in a 32 ounce container. Or any dairy-free yogurt in a large container for that matter. Salad bar. Vegan, vegetarian, & some "with meat" items at another "salad" bar like pasta salad, beet salad, etc. I think that selection changes often. Several kinds of soups & meals (stir-fry type things) which changes daily. Fish & meat counter - I assume it's all grass-fed beef & chicken & sustainably caught fish although honestly I didn't look. They have several varieties of Macro Vegetarian meals (they're vegan, no idea why they call themselves "Macro Vegetarian") which are yummy! They make salsa, hummus, guacamole, pasta, a few other things in-house & pre-packed which is nice when you don't have time to make it yourself but still want something that was made in small batches by hand & wasn't made by machine. My only complaint is I/we've been here several times & not once has anyone greeted us or asked us if we need help finding anything, even when we clearly are, they walk right by us, zero "can I help you find anything today?" which I expect if I'm laying down $35-60 for ONE bag of groceries. When we've had questions we have to track someone down. There also seems to be a lack of people bagging. I don't mind bagging my own but when my youngest is giving me a hard time, it'd be really swell to have someone else do it for me so I'm not trying to juggle a 3 year old & bag $60 worth of groceries carefully at the same time. I don't have four arms..... And the cashiers are really not all that friendly. Again, at $35-$60 per bag I expect the cashiers to be friendly all of the time. Juice bar although we haven't tried it yet. Very competitive prices for the quality & selection. In some cases CHEAPER THAN MARKET BASKET!! Now that's cheap haha. All in all great addition to Keene & nice place to shop. Highly recommend! read more

We love shopping at the Co-op. Being a member owner adds savings benefits. The local produce selection is extensive and always fresh. The staff is very cheery and helpful. The Co-Op deals are very competitive and the local meat selections and other local grocery items are awesome. The deli selections are so delicious and numerous. The only downside is being a drinker of a milder, smoother blend than what is offered, I am not a fan of the coffee. The Co-op is very supportive of the community and offers classes and events to bring people together. The dining area is very welcoming and you can usually find it full of happy, smiling faces. Very pleased that we have this wonderful community gem. read more
