Super professional and knowledgeable. Was able to complete my inspection and cleaning quickly!

I researched a bunch of chimney sweeps. Turns out many were related. They all up into one agent setting appointments, some sort of corporate or franchise thing? Need to be careful about this. I picked Darren because he's local. Previous owners somehow screwed up the functionality of my fireplace. They tore some things out so when I do have a fire, usually duraflame, some of the smoke leaks out into the room. Darren diagnosed the problem and did a custom fix, installed a smoke guard, chain screen protector; did a great job, doesn't leak anymore. Great service, good price; also an honest chimney sweep, he looked at the chimney said it doesn't need cleaning. Highly recommend. read more

I was greatly pleased with the service that Darren gave to my job from start to finish. He assessed what was needed on the first visit and at that time scheduled a date for the work. He followed up the next day with a confirmation. The work was done right on time. He told me all that he was doing: the cleaning, the repair of our old chimney, and the replacement of the cap. When he left the space was clean and the fireplace was ready to enjoy. His charge was competitive but far less than a previous bid I received. Many thanks! read more

I was referred to Brennan's Chimney Service by some of my neighbors. I was very pleased with Darren's work, as he removed an old wood burning stove that was no longer useable from our fireplace (which was not an easy job) and cleaned the fireplace and chimney to restore it to its original condition. He is skilled at his job. Darren is professional, courteous and friendly. He explains what he is doing in a clear and understandable way and does not try to upsell you into something that is not necessary. His rates are reasonable, and I felt I got good value for the price. I will definitely be calling Darren for any future fireplace service. read more

Darren was awesome. Great communicator. Arrived on time. He inspected my woodstove and woodpipe and ended up charging me for the inspection not the full cleaning as he said I didn't need it. That was so appreciated! He also had all kinds of great advice about woodstove use and maintenance to minimize servicing in the future. Highly recommend. read more

Professional from start to finish and a genuinely nice person. Gave a fair quote quickly and delivered exactly was promised. Handled a non-standard older home situation with ease. In these COVID times he was respectful of my family by always having and wearing his mask appropriately. I would not hesitate to recommend to a friend or to work with again in the future. Five stars for a top quality service, communications, and support. read more

Darren is a great communicator and worked with me so I could clearly understand the issues, as well as the propose solutions, for me to consider the best path forward. I removed the brick facade of a fireplace in my house built in 1984. I also raised the floor about 5" (it was a sunken living room floor, now level with the rest of the house). I knew there were some mortar repairs to do on the bricks in the chimney and I wanted to have a new hearth made. I plan to do the remainder of the work (install tile surround and wooden mantel) myself, but I needed an experience chimney person to do the mortar, hearth, and consult on the proposed changes (raising the bottom of the fireplace to match the height of the floor, replacing demo'd accordion door with a movable screen, etc). I called on a Sunday morning and he offered to meet me the next day though it was a holiday. He was easy to understand on the phone and seemed to understand my issues well. He explained that because of the nature of the call he would charge an inspection fee that would go toward any work if I decided to go with him. He also said he'd bring his supplies so any minor projects would be completed same day (and thus, the fee would go toward that at least, more if I wanted to do more then or another day). When he arrived (on time) we walked through my concerns and he completed an inspection and spent as much time as I wanted to understand my goal. He explained his experience and what as possible, took some measurements and notes, and agreed to get back to me with a quote for my fairly unusual project. I'm a talker and he was happy to chat, but he kept the process moving even when I was probably being a distraction. He was professional and funny, so far so good. Darren returned a total of three days (not all full days because the work needed to be done in stages) and completed the job for the price we agreed on which was lower than two other estimates I received. He worked around or was creative with a couple issues that came up. The mortar work was well explained at each stage and it came out very well. Darren was very pleasant and trustworthy. I enjoyed talking with him and my wife was always comfortable with him. We agreed to have him complete the work while we were not home and he was always respectful of the house, keeping the work space clean and avoiding getting dust or debris from the dirty work from spreading around the room. I will happily call him for future repairs and inspections. Worked around our schedules and spent time working out how to do the job in an affordable way. He even pushed forward his final work days when I asked if we could finish a bit sooner than we initially scheduled. I even liked his work truck (a Volvo wagon!). Very strongly recommended for inspections and repairs. read more

Choosing Brennan to do our chimney repair was one of the best decisions I made during our home improvement saga. He was so easy to communicate with. He made himself quickly available for an on-site visit. He didn't sell us on any goods or services - he was honest and professional about what he could do. This guy knows his stuff and is very experienced! Not only did he do the chimney repair earlier than expected (it was a big project), but he came in thousands of dollars less than the other chimney companies in San Rafael. I'm so very thankful for Brennan. He made a very stressful situation super easy to handle and we love the outcome! read more

Darren did a great job today--he was really communicative beforehand. He returned my phone call last week on the same day and gave me a call today beforehand to let me know that he finished another job early and could be here early if that worked for me. He brought another worker so they were able to complete the chimney sweep quickly. He evaluated the chimney and fireplace as well and gave me some helpful tips. He kept everything clean and was friendly and engaging. Would highly recommend him. read more

5 Stars for exceptional Customer Service. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. After contacting Brennan's Chimney Service, I received a prompt response from Darren, who said he would be able to squeeze me in his busy schedule the following day since my problem involved a leak. Darren and Joe showed up to my home at the promised time and expertly evaluated the issue I was having with my chimney. Moving forward, they advised me about my issue and how it should be handled. Both Darren and Joe exemplified the true meaning of Customer Service. They were honest, professional, and sincere in their work. It's very rare finding all these traits in a business. I was extremely satisfied with their service and will not hesitate to use their services in the future. read more

I wish all business owners gave the service Darren does. I echo all the 5 star reviews which precede mine. Darren inspected our chimney & gas log fireplace yesterday. He arrived on time; spent a lot of time with us explaining everything he did; cleaned the cobwebs out of the flue; inspected the vent on the roof. Instead of the quoted $180 he gave us over the phone, he charged us only $100 Darren is not only an honest, personable business man, but easy & enjoyable to be around. I recommended him to our neighbor immediately & do so to anyone looking for chimney service. read more

Darren is the NICEST guy!! We bought our house in June and wanted to make sure our chimney and fireplace were in good condition. He got the job done quickly AND left the area around the fireplace clean -- no soot! He is incredibly nice, honest and thorough. Just genuinely a good person. He showed me how to open and close the damper, gave me safety tips for lighting a fire, checked the gas line and showed me what to look out for in case there are future issues with our fireplace. He is very reasonably priced and showed up on time. I would definitely recommend Brennan's to anyone who needs their chimney cleaned! Thanks Brennan!!!! read more

Darren gave us an honest assessment of the condition of our fireplace and chimney saving us a lot of $$$ in what would have been unnecessary repairs had we relied on the inspection report received when we bought our home a few months ago. Friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Highly recommend Brennan's Chimney Service. read more

Without a doubt I would like to enthusiastically refer Darren on here as the ultimate chimney resource, be it for inspections or service. His timing is impeccable, his kindness impressive and his skill and expertise topnotch. As a top performing real estate agent in San Francisco and Marin it is imperative that those with whom I decide to work are of the same caliber, lest my clients view my referrals and recommendations as unfavorable or undesirable. With Brennan's Chimney Service I am never disappointed and always proud. You could do no better! read more

Did a fantastic job installing our new glass fireplace screen!

Happy to have found Darren. He came out to inspect our old chimney in SF where the damper had fallen out. He offered several solutions, the best of which were fireplace doors. It was an inexpensive fix and added beauty to an otherwise plain hearth. It is refreshing to find someone who is honest and willing to work with the customer, often a rarity these days. My wife and highly recommend Darren to anyone in need of chimney service. read more

We had a great experience with Darren. He clearly has a significant amount of knowledgable in his area and was honest as the come, clearly having our interests as priority number one. I've called Brennan twice in 3 weeks and have never received a call back... so I called norstar. They were great and I recommend them!

You will be happy you chose this company if you use them to work on your chimney. I have never met a person who enjoys taking care of chimneys, but Darren does. He knows what he is doing and he likes what he is doing. His prices are very clear and fair. Every step of the process was professional and easy. They cleaned and checked my chimney as well as advising me on several issues that concerned me. They prepped the area very well and taped up the fireplace so no dust would enter my house. They were so clean, you would not have known they were there. During the cleaning, I noticed one black smudge on my door but they cleaned it before they left my house. Very good attention to detail. read more

Simply stated, Darren is the best. We recently had a new roof installed on a home we recently sold in Novato. The buffoon roofers left off the chimney stack unbeknownst to us and anybody else. We called out Darren to have a look. Got everything straightened out for the new owners asap. Reasonable, efficient, knowledgeable, and all around good guy. Buddy E Bonsall read more

HIGHLY recommended. Darren was extremely pleasant to deal with, called to confirm our appointment and arrived right on time. I have tried a couple of times to arrange with this person to do work, but he has not responded to my telephone calls. I first called in early December to schedule a chimney cleaning and inspection. There was not an answer so I left a recall message on the answering machine with a description of the work I sought. I did not receive a response, so I called a couple more times and left messages, but received no response. In January I called again and left a message asking to schedule an appointment a few weeks in the future. He did not respond to the message. He may do good work, but he is bad at returning phone calls to schedule work. He also does not have a website with an email address, so there is no way to contact him but by telephone. So I contacted another worker on this list and received a response quickly. read more

I have to agree with all the positive reviews. Daren and his colleague came out to service my wood stove after I had a HORRIBLE experience with another local chimney sweep. Not only were they professional, friendly, and knowledgeable, Daren also took time to talk to me about why I DIDN'T NEED TO SPEND MORE MONEY on a repair! He said it was completely unnecessary! I mean, seriously, who does that? The only negative was that the first time I called to get an estimate, they didn't call me back. I had to call again. I'm so glad I did These guys are super busy, and if they don't have time to call you back, be persistent and try again. It's totally worth the extra effort to get an appointment. read more
