The food is great. But... the reason for the poor rating is the ownership. I work down the street and come in for salads on lunch. I just ordered a salad for $9.99, paid for it on my debit card, and stepped out so they could make it. I came back in and the woman behind the desk told me that the price of the salad listed on the board was incorrect and it is $11.99 and the owner was very strict on the price and wasn't going to let it go. Instead of letting the $2.00 go and fixing the board, they made me go get my debit card again to charge me the difference! Nor did the owner come talk to me. It was very rude. Now the salad is great, but the mistake was theirs and the owner's choose to ignore that fact. read more

The service was excellent from the moment that we entered. We were seated, served drinks, and had our order taken very quickly - but, without feeling rushed. The food was served equally quickly, and the portions were generous for the price. The sausage and cheese omelette was good, and I particularly liked their hash browns. On an unrelated note, the overall restaurant was quite clean. It felt like they even wiped down the seats before we arrived. I am very VERY disappointed. First time ordering and there was a hair in my salad. The lady on the phone asked me " Oh, was it a black hair" so then you obviously new about it. WTF!?!?! They ended up making me a new salad which was great but then when I picked it up and asked for an extra dressing she charged me .54 cents!!!! Like seriously?!?!?! My wife and I like to go out for breakfast, especially on weekends. We found the Nook shortly after it opened in July 2011 and have been regulars every since. It's called the Nook for a reason, it's small. From our experience, smaller is usually better and the Nook is one of the best. The staff is friendly and outgoing and attentive. The menu is not overly ambitious and the food has been good every time we have gone. I have tried many breakfast options and like the ham and cheese or Denver omelette. My wife loves the potato pancake breakfast. She says it's like getting two breakfasts for one. We discovered the diced potatoes a while ago and get them instead of the hashbrowns. If you drink tea, you'll love the giant pot it comes in and the fact they serve it with two teabags. My wife is very picky about her toast and can't understand restaurants that not only burn the toast but then serve it to you. I usually skip the toast and go for the pancakes that are not belly bombers and have a hint of vanilla. We will not keep going back to a restaurant that gets it wrong. The folks at The Breakfast Nook get it right, which may be why they are well into their second year and always seem crowded. read more

Excellent little place at the south end of a strip mall. Bright and clean with top notch service. The coffee is really good, and my cup was always full. My friend and I both had the potato pancake special, mine with crisp bacon and hers with link sausage. Comes with two eggs any style. Delicious! We were served by Dora on a Sunday morning. I have been eating here on & off for about 3 years. I went there today for breakfast and ordered the Grecian Omelete. It was great!!!. I asked them to substitute Swiss for the Feta, no problem. The pancakes were great, and they give you grits as well. A filling lunch, I'll be back soon. read more

I visited Breakfast Nook this past weekend and it was less than what I hoped it would be. I am usually the first to say the small places are the best places but I was kind of disappointed with this one. My scrambler had little to no flavor. The avocado that came on the side was the best part of the meal simply because I was able to put it on my toast. Fruit was completely out of season: honey dew was hard, cantaloupe wasn't even orange, but grapes were fine. I'd be willing to try them out again and order a different menu item but not any time soon. read more

I eat there pretty frequently and the food is great! The owner however is just rude. She has no customer service skills at all. I called to ask a question on the menu and she handed the phone to someone else and I hear her talking bad about me in the background. She does not change her prices on the menu so everything is always not the right price and she overcharges. She charges extra for the littlest things as well. Victim of it's own success? There aren't a lot of seats in this place so we know not to come on a Sunday morning. Saturday at 10:30 and there was a bit of a wait, which was no problem. We say people walk in and leave. The problem is when we were seated at the front door. The waiters would stair at everyone waiting for them to leave. Really! Not a very pleasent enviroment to have a meal. And then there were the shorties stairing at your food because they were hungry. The waitress asked if I wanted coffee. I do not drink it, but I always have a large glass of grapefruit juice with breakfast. But I never got it because she ran away as soon as I said no to the coffee. I had to ask for a glass of water with my meal. When the food came out it was definitely not worth the wait. I am not sure what happened? But I'm over this place. read more

I went with my group of 5 for Mothers day this Sunday and I was VERY DISAPOINTED!! I was the person who recommended the Breakfast Nook for our annual Mother's Day breakfast. I have been there numerous times before and thought it would be a nice place to go for our special day. Boy am I embarrassed now for bringing my friends there! I can not believe that after an HOUR, and I looked at my watch to be sure, we were asked to leave by our waitress because others needed to be seated. My first thought, HOW RUDE, second thought, how many other groups would have been able to have been seated at our table within that hour of time? One, MAYBE?? Then when we were walking out and no one was waiting outside, that was what did me in. We were not planning to make it an all day event, we had finished our food and were finishing up our coffee. The Breakfast Nook may have missed out on seating maybe one more group at our table on Mother's Day, but they really missed the boat, because none of the women in our group will ever go back and as you can already see, word of mouth goes a long way. read more

I've been trying all the local breakfast restaurants in the area, and I was a bit disappointed here. To start, the coffee my friend was drinking didn't sit right with him and it was bothering his stomach. Maybe it was the creamer (expired?), i'm not sure. I had a skillet and the potatoes were a bit weird, they still had the skins on and were fried too much. The cheese wasn't melted all the way through, either. The pancakes didn't really woo me. An outstanding breakfast place off 88th Ave in Mokena. Their food is great, service is wonderful and the portions? Holy crap - if you walk out of there hungry it's your own damn fault. I usually have a skillet of some kind but their pancakes are really good too. It's like a well oiled machine in that place with how quickly they take orders and get them out to you. I do not usually complain about anything, but I went to this restaurant for breakfast with a friend of mine at 9:30 A.M. on a Saturday. My friend and I were having a cup of coffee after our meal and catching up. Our waitress then came over and apologized, but asked us to leave because her manager told her to make us leave. It should be stated that this was at 10:15, so we weren't even there for an hour. On top of that, there was one family waiting for a seat. Its an average breakfast place. Nothing that stands out against the rest. Ordered an omlet and the eggs were browned more than I liked. I'm not a fan of scrabled eggs that have that toasted brown flakyness on the outside. This is why I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 3. Yum! The food here is delicious. I have gone to the Breakfast Nook both for dine-in and carry out several times and have always had great experiences. The portion sizes are huge, prices are great, and food is delicious. I love their veggie skillet, especially with diced potatoes. Their pancakes are delicious, fluffy and sweet. The restaurant is a bit small, and there is typically a wait on weekend mornings. This place was perfect!!! We stumbled on this place looking for an alternative to cracker barrel, and it was AMAZING!!! i had the country fried steak and it was hands down the best one ive ever had. Over Memorial Day weekend, after about 45 minutes, we were asked to leave by the waitress who stated that she was directed to do so by the owner/manager so that other guests could be seated. This place is tucked into the corner of a little plaza, and certainly is off the beaten path for most. The inside is very small, but inviting. The food was quite good. Got the meaty skillet and just basic two eggs with hash browns. They use real potatoes instead of the cheap frozen stuff. Honestly, it's a solid place without many frills. I recommend the seasoned diced potatoes with breakfast or the chicken salsa wrap for lunch. I also like that the restaurant serves paninis, as they are hard to come by around the south suburbs. This is such a great restaurant to have in Mokena!!!! It is hard to find a great breakfast place in your home town that gives you enough food for your money. I have eaten here several times but the most recent time I had the Greek Chicken Skillet. WoW this blew my mind. It was absolutely delicious. Everything was fresh and the seasonings were perfect. I also think it is a great idea that they have FREE coffee from 6am-10am M-F. I definitely recommend this place! read more
