Burgers! What's not to love about them? I AM a fan, as it says in the preview bar from my rating. what I am slightly less of a fan of is soggy burger buns. For those like me who (and don;t get me wrong, the burger I had was still delicious) like a crisp burger bun with something delicious inside, perhaps stay away from the more extravagant burgers and go for a simpler burger. For me, you shouldn't have to eat your burger with a knife and fork. The poutine was awesome with chicken on top and lush hot sauce (My second fave thing in the world). All in all pretty darn good. Probably the best burger I had while in Glasgow. Coming from Texas I had high expectations trying a burger and nearby places left me unimpressed. I saw pictures and decided to go for it, I'm glad I did. I got a classic cheeseburger and added another patty, the meet was cooked well done but not dry and the fries and onion rings came out fresh. Had read a lot of very positive reviews so had high expectations of Bread meets Bread. We decided to pop in for lunch after a morning shopping with our nearly 2year old in tow. I ordered a Cali burger and my partner a cheeseburger and we had mixed fries and onion rings to share. We decided that the kids meals would be too much for our little one to manage (for £5 you can get a burger/cheeseburger/toastie with fries, a juice and ice cream). I actually really dislike having a full kids menu and would much prefer to be able to select from a range of smaller options, however, this is pretty good value. The service was excellent, we were seated somewhere best for a high chair our buggy was put out of the way for us and the waitress brought our daughter some fries to munch on whilst we waited for our order. The food was good but nothing special, the 2x2 Cali burger was very tasty but tiny for the £7 price tag - you have to order sides extra for a full meal. I was also surprised they offered the meat medium - with minced meat this is an option that is never fully safe from killing harmful bacteria. The restaurant does not have changing facilities as far as we could work out, we checked all the toilets, so if you are bringing a really small child you'd probably be changing them on the floor!! Better than all the big chain burger joints that have sprung up around it. Still isn't quite a mind-blowing experience but there is a big variety to choose from and also some really good sides, the poutine is a meal in it's own right. Most of the options tend towards being big and heavy rather than being flavour-focused, so you won't be blown away but will get your money's worth. A few of the waiters are pretty cheeky, which I really enjoy, making it a more interesting place to visit. This lil place is amazing! We went there on a Friday afternoon and it was PACKED! They only seating available was outside, otherwise it would be a 25 - 30 minute wait. We decided to eat outside and our food came right away. My husband enjoyed a burger and I had the pulled pork sandwich. We split a sweet potato fry and it was the perfect amount of food. This is my favourite burger place in Glasgow. They are cooked extremely well - medium, but if you would rather it well done they will cook it longer for you. They do a whole host of different toppings on your burger, but I always go for plain with ketchup. Their sweet potato fries are delicious! But they also do topping for these, such as cheese and bacon, and caramelised sweet potato fries!! They are really indulgent, but worth it to try them! Only reason I've given 4 stars is because it is always completely jam packed and can be at least a half hour wait to get a table. There isn't a lot of space in the place as it is really small and I find it quite off putting when there are people standing watching you eat and wanting you to finish. When it comes to the best burger venues in Glasgow, though others are good, there's only one clear winner, and that's Bread Meats Bread. There was a stage where I was in here in an almost weekly basis, it's now down to bi-weekly just as I've moved! The location is ideal for anyone in the city centre and in need of a quick lunch/dinner. It's not the biggest place and is often very busy, but turnaround is very quick and you won't be waiting for long. The food itself is outstanding. Though I've ended up boring burger-wise and ordering the same thing repeatedly, it's hard to fault. The quality of the burger meat itself is very good, well seasoned and well cooked. The bun and salad elements (particularly the onions) are very tasty too. The burger sauce is outstanding, I'd drink it by the bottle. The fries are also hard to fault, with the bacon fries with burger sauce a staple for me. Though at first the sweet potato fries with maple syrup and coconut may sound an odd choice, don't let it put you off, a stroke of genius! I'd reccomend taking elements of both and having sweet potato fries with bacon and burger sauce. The close second highlight to the food is the service. I've always had outstanding service here which is impressive considering how mobbed the place often is. Very attentive and friendly, impossible to fault the great staff. The drinks selection, though basic, is very good. Have a nice range of bottled beers, and the draught lager is quite nice too. Overall, this should be your first stop shop for burgers in Glasgow. Been wanting to try here for ages so popped in after rugby. Lucky timing waited only 10 minutes or so. Had the full house which was excellent the burger held together really well. The bacon chips were brilliant so naughty! But most of all was really impressed with the staff... Efficient and friendly (Irish, Greek? and a Scot) they greeted everyone quickly and warmly and everyone got a cheerio. Great assets to the restaurant. I know that many people really love Bread Meats Bread but, as yet, I'm just not convinced. I've visited twice, and both times my meal has been slightly disappointing. The first time, I put it down to poor ordering on my part as my friend's dish was very nice. However, when I ordered the Italian Pulled Pork the other day I was sad to find that the meat was not tender and juicy but, instead, rather dry. I resorted to tomato ketchup to moisten my highly anticipated meal (I'd read enough reviews to know people LOVE this place) but it just couldn't fulfil my hopes. read more

Visiting from Los Angeles and it was hailing outside so we just wanted some comfort food. This place had good Yelp reviews so we gave it a shot. The place was crowded and you sit at a communal table. Ok I get it, it's crowded. Not really a strike. We ordered the bacon cheeseburger, crispy chicken burger, halloumi fries and a Diet Coke. For American travelers keep in mind no free refills so that $4 soda is a single glass only. Again not surprising it's Europe. The actual Diet Coke itself was not very fizzy and tasted almost like a Diet Pepsi (sacrilege to Diet Coke fans). The real deal killer were the burgers. The buns were cold and not toasted! They just grab them from bags above the grille area and plate the burgers. Again maybe this is a cultural thing but I cannot remember even once having a burger from a sit down restaurant with a cold bun. It rather ruined the experience for me. The chicken sandwich my wife ordered also came with a cold sesame bun. And this mediocre experience cost about $35usd for two people. I LOVE MEAT!!! The more meat the better! Just pack it in! Ahem, anyway, I had walked past this place many a time enroute to my friends flat and I was counting down the days until I could try it. I finally got to try it this month. I love a good burger and with just about every where doing some sort of a burger I had to see what was special about this place! I have heard from friends and colleagues about small problems about this place, mainly the running out of certain foods. Still undeterred, I got the full house burger. I think i inhaled it rather than ate it. Topped with brisket and gravy this makes for one juicy burger. The brisket itself was melt in the mouth and the gravy was very tasty. I also got chips with cheese curds and gravy which is the fancier version of chips cheese and gravy. Instead of the cheese curds (which they had ran out of) we got mozzarella. The food alone gets a 10/10. The reason I cannot give this a 5 star rating is simply because they ran out of the cheese curds, (is this a regular occurrence?), you have to pay for chips separately and unless you get one of the booths the seating can be slightly uncomfortable. Regarding the chips I am finding this seems to be a common practice for burger bars/restaurants. If you are paying up to £10 then you should be getting chips as standard unless you want to upgrade to the cheese and gravy etc. Overall I can highly recommend this place to anyone who loves meat and burgers. read more

I really love the décor of the place..wouldn't quite call it a restaurant as I cant imagine sitting down for more than an hour there. You can tell they want a quick turn around, so you are basically in and out. The girl even started clearing our table before we were finished! The sweet potato fries were not crispy enough (I know they are more difficult to get crispy than normal potatoes - so tip to the chefs..sprinkle them with cornflour!). Went here after reading some of the great reviews on here and even though we had a 15 minute wait (it was Saturday afternoon) the food was delicious. I hadn't been feeling great earlier in the day and struggled to eat anymore than half, however, a quick word with the server and she was more than willing to pack it up for me to take home. I devoured it later that night... i had the full house with bacon fries, the burger had a lovely tinge of pink in the middle and the mayo with the bacon fries was gorgeous...Our only gripe is the fact that it was soooo busy in such a small space and there were people standing waiting as we were and made us feel we had to leave quite sharpish rather than hanging about and having another tasty Blue Moon beer! read more

I'm not sure what other people see in this place. If I wore suspenders, had lots of visible tattoos, a moustache, the short-sides/long-top slickback haircut, a mild sense of entitlement, and a love of slightly disappointing burgers, then this place would be a burger haven in the busy middle of Glasgow. Instead, it came across as an obnoxious, London-trendy joint that wanted to let you know how cool it is by making the seating made of uncomfortable, bare wood (a good way to get patron turnover, as it happens), with staff erring just a little bit on the side of rude and a menu with prices ever so slightly inflated for the white bread 'masterpiece' you will receive. To cap it all, by the time we'd gotten back to the car, my 'Redhead' had given me stomach cramps. Maybe it was just a bad day for the place? I'm not sure. What I do know is there are lots of good places to chow down on a burger in the centre of Glasgow, and this ain't one of them as far as I can see. read more

When trying to make the tough decision of where to enjoy some lunch in Glasgow city centre there is a few obvious choices. However, when walking off buchanan street and heading up St Vincent street I was struck by the large glass windows and the sign saying - 'Bread Meats Bread.' Once looking at the menu which is situated outside, the first thing that struck me was the simplicity in the menu and then the VERY reasonable prices. A classic burger for £5 was noticeably competitive. When heading in to the restaurant with my friend I love the fact that the kitchen and the cooking is completely on show - allowing the smells of all the food circulate around the restaurant. Once shown to a booth by the big windows you straight away notice the attention to detail in branding. Something that many people wont take notice of - but I certainly did. The staff are casual yet professional - a very nice balance. Once ordering our food I opted for the classic burger and some sweat potato chips - my friend opting for the gourmet hot dog. I wanted to reply to a couple of emails on my iPad so when we asked for the wifi password and the staff went out of their way to get us logged on which was very refreshing to see - considering some places are now trying to charge you to log on! The food arrived presented rather attractively - with the brioche bun of the burger fully in tact (no sogginess that I have experienced whilst eating burgers at other restaurants). The chips were hot and crispy with just enough potato in them. My friends hot dog looked rather tasty as well. We sat for over an hour enjoying the views and the relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant - we timed it well heading in at 3pm. Burger restaurants seem to be on the rise in Glasgow which I love. If you want somewhere to enjoy quality produce, incredibly competitive pricing and friendly staff - I would tell you to go try this place out. You cant beat a lunch that costs less than £10 a head! I ordered the roast pork roll thing I forget what it's called and the poutine. Pork roll was average. Poutine was yum but there was a wee bit too much gravy. I ended up at Bread Meats Bread on a Monday night, and it was still mobbed! Despite this, we got seating for two pretty much immediately, and the staff were incredibly sweet throughout. Took me a while to pick out a burger because of the number of varied options (although not much for vegetarians/vegans), but in the end went for a Falafel. My friend got a Fullhouse & thankfully he was aware of the size of the burgers so we only got one portion of chips. Still overwhelmed! The chips were lovely, as were the burgers after you got past the impossible first few bites. The falafel had a very nice combination of flavours going for it, though it was a bit spicy which I didn't see coming. But that's a personal issue with British food in general that most people don't tend to have. A less subjective struggle was holding the thing together! Perhaps because I am a newbie in the burger world, I still haven't gotten the hang of eating them in a socially acceptable manner. The falafel was very slippery due to the presence of hummus, tomato and gherkins, and I ended up making an absolute mess of myself in the process of eating it. On the upside, it's a great bonding experience! If anyone's willing to go for a second date after seeing you devour a sloppy burger, they're a keeper. Notably, Mr Fullhouse didn't seem to have any serious problems with his food. I guess bigger hands help? The only slight issue we experienced was staff quite literally forgetting about our order for a little bit, but we barely noticed, they apologised profusely & then gave us a nifty 20% off the bill to make up for it. I visited last week to finally try the infamous Cali burger. You can't pre-book a table so we had to wait which didn't take long at all. The staff provide a really efficient service turning around tables without that pressure of feeling like you need to rush. The Cali burgers were delicious - i loved the American style cheese and the burgers were juicy and flavourful - the mustard fried tang was subtle but quick to spot. Unfortunately after a while it was overwhelmed by the sauce and gherkins - all of which i love, but after a while it's difficult to pick out distinct flavours. We had wanted to order Cali fries but they had run out so we settled for the classic poutine with added bacon of course, because you know, BACON. God i love poutine - never tried until Bread Meats Bread but I've always been a fan of chips & gravy but the addition of cheese curds is inspired. Get it and you won't be disappointed - we shared a portion between us and couldn't finished it. Also tried the tobacco onions - i was disappointed. They came out cold and tiny little bits of onion. I'm an Irish girl and all the restaurants in my hometown have been long-term enthusiasts of The Tobacco Onion and these did not live up to them. Second time we have been to bread meets bread at the Glasgow Fort and its the second time that once food and drink have been served they will not come back to your table when you have empty glasses. Not just our table everyone had empty glasses! Food has been ok both times we have been so it's not all negative! However the nail in the coffin was when we asked for the bill, we were waiting say 5/10 minutes and the waitress was always serving and clearing tables so we then asked another member of staff to then be told 'ask someone that's not busy'. Although this place was packed every time we walked passed, trust me it was worth the wait! The staff are friendly and helpful and find a spot for you as soon as possible. Mmm I am still craving a pulled pork sandwich after visiting this place. I was brought here on a lunch break with my recent Bollywood cast. They had all been the night before & were craving it again. As we arrived we were treated like royalty (in Mumbai they are royalty I guess) I figured they must have just left a big tip the night before but after closer questioning they actually gave them a discount, so they were just naturally being given the royal treatment & great service. The place was heaving & every booth was crammed full. The seats are wooden with light up pictures of cattle on the seats, which I wasn't sure if I liked. The counter is an American deli style place which sells milkshake a & beers. & you can order at the bar & the away good too. We ordered beer, house burger & pulled pork sandwich to take away. My friend drank his beer at counter as we waited. I ate away from venue but it was soo delicious. The bread was toasted the neat was moist the juices ran through the Meat & the jalapeños set it off just right. I would go back to sit in or take away & try the beef too. The food in here is fantastic! With a great selection of burgers and toppings most cravings are covered! The sweet potato fries are a must try. I was in on Friday and had their special Oktoberger which was up to the same excellent standard as the rest of the menu! I'm only dropping one star because the place itself is pretty small, cramped and noisy which does add to the character but not when you can't hear the person opposite you over the noise. I had a Cali burger and my boyfriend had the Wolf of St Vincent Street burger... I only wish we hadn't been as full after eating them so we could've ordered more! With the sudden popularity of the burger in Edinburgh, i've eaten quite a few burgers this past year. so it's hard to tell when one place over another really is going to make a difference, but i'd heard good things about Bread Meats Bread and saw that they were soon opening a new edinburgh outlet (now open!) so thought it might a be good reason to try the place out. it was a super miserable and rainy day in glasgow so not having to walk far to find a place for lunch was top of my mind. i had spotted the restaurant as i walked to the spa so suggested it to my friend for lunch. we agreed and headed over to be greeted by a short queue to wait for a table. the place is small, but it was packed and although the queue was short when we arrived it grew sustainability in the 20 minutes following. so no doubt a hugely popular place!! the waiter said it would be about 20-30 minutes for a table which was fairly spot on. i think it might have been shorter but they had a few people sat talking even though they had clearly finished their meal. i think my friend was entertained by my impatience of people not moving on when it was clear others were waiting! however we were there people so we had to wait for a suitable sized table to become available. once seated we already knew what we were ordering having looked at the menu while waiting. i went with the black & blue burger and shared a portion of bacon fries and onion rings. food arrived fairly promptly and may have been a bit of eyes bigger than bellies issue. however we tucked in and i have to say it was probably one of the best burgers of my life. it was juicy and tasty with loads of flavor from the blue cheese and caramelised onions. the bun was substantial enough to hold my burger and all it's toppings it as well. after the first bite i actually felt that i needed a moment alone just to enjoy the burger's extreme tastiness. the bacon fries were also delicious with loads of crispy bacon and burger sauce topping off really crispy fries. the onion rings were good, although i've had better but still very enjoyable. my accompanying dinners were similar in their food enjoyment as i was. it's really hard sometimes because most places don't live up to the hype surrounding them. i've definitely fallen foul of that a few times but Bread Meats Bread is beyond the hype. they just do simply delicious burgers with friendly serving staff without any of the annoying fuss. i'm beyond happy that there is now an edinburgh branch but i'd definitely pop back into this one if i was in glasgow. read more
