    Portrait of tea
    Anuhea P.

So the interior of this tea house is beautiful, let me just say that. High ceilings, tiling, paintings, the perfect atmosphere for tea. I wish I would have known that the set Tea (with trays of savory and sweet along with your pot of tea) is by reservation only. You've been thus warned. Slightly disappointed my husband and I ordered sandwiches, soup, a scone and a cupcake. The chicken mango sandwich is average, I could barely find any mango pieces (the flavor didn't come through), but on the other hand my hubby's farmer(?) bagel was divine! The onion marmalade offset the cheese as a perfect combo and I'd wished I'd ordered that instead. For dessert, we had the sticky toffee pudding cupcake and the blueberry chocolate scone. The cupcake itself wasn't that sweet and reminded me a little of carrot cake in its flavor and texture. The frosting, however, was very sweet and brought to mind the namesake dessert. The scone was even better. A lightly sweet Batter with rich chocolate chips (couldn't find the blueberries) served with non sweetened whipped cream. I very much enjoyed our pot of tea as well (can't remember the name), was a Scottish blend with Heather and lavender. If I lived in Glasgow I'd have to come back for their set high tea.

An early morning cinema trip required breakfast and Yelp handily pointed out that I was near Cup so, after a quick check of the menu, I headed in and tried to remember that it was 10am (and I was driving) so I shouldn't order any gin! (Confused? This branch of Cup becomes Gin71 in the evenings, a purveyor of fine gin and cocktails that is well worth a visit!). The interior looks far more impressive during the day as you can make out much more of the exquisite detail in the ceiling and walls, it is a sumptuous space, and feels rather grand and posh; I felt rather scruffy in my t-shirt and jeans! I opted for the breakfast sliders - they have a reasonable range of breakfast options, also allowing you to 'build your own' although they could do with some Hash Browns in that part of the menu - and ordered a glass of fresh orange juice as well. The food was quick to arrive - a sausage in a mini hot dog roll, some crispy bacon in a broiche bun, and a poached egg served in a Yorkshire pudding - and looked great. I had asked for ketchup as well and, and I know this is a tiny detail, it arrived in those little squeezy packets which somewhat ruined the upmarket feel. First bite of the sausage ... er... roll.. was a little disappointing. A bog standard pork sausage and a slightly dry bun, the application of ketchup did little to save it and the bread to meat ratio (which as we all know is very important) was off by quite some degree. I left almost a third of the bread behind. On to the bacon and brioche, and HUZZAH for crispy bacon that was crispy without having to be asked!! Alas, boo for the miniscule amount in the bun (less than a rasher?) and again with the bread to meat ratio being off it was a whole lot of sweet bun, with not much crispy bacon. Ketchup to the rescue again but ultimately I was underwhelmed by this overly sweet combination. Perhaps the poached egg in a yorkshire pudding would save the day? Alas no. An overly poached egg, in a slightly stale yorkshire pudding (neither crispy nor chewy, Auntie Bessie would be ashamed) offered little for my taste buds to get excited about. The fresh orange juice was nice though, as was the service, prompt and friendly and delivered with a smile. Alas the sliders idea - good on paper, bad on the plate - just didn't seem to work. Oh well, you live and learn and if I go back there for breakfast (a large 'if' given nearby competition) I definitely won't be ordering them again.

Gorgeous interior and laid back feel.

There is an abundance of cupcake shops and coffee shops these days, all trying for kitsch and cool. And while Cup definitely is kitsch, it has me sold! The cupcakes are delicious whilst not over priced, service is friendly and attentive enough and the whole look of the place has me blown away. Brunch was definitely a highlight one sunny, Sunday afternoon. I sampled my favourite - smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, while the boy went for his staple of waffles, maple syrup and banana. Whilst it was delicious and reasonably priced (£4.95 and £3.50 respectively), we could have done with a bit more salmon / banana each. But nonetheless it was great. I've yet to try the afternoon teas and I have only visited at quiet times but for a bit of laid back cool in the middle of town it is well worth the visit.

We had a voucher from an online deals site and decided to try a sharing platter & cocktails with friends. The staff were really friendly, helpful and gave up plenty of time to look over the varied menu, before making our choices. The food looked & tasted amazing, fresh and the cocktails were well thought out and completed the food and deserts well. Will definitely pop in again when in town.

Cup includes two of my favourite things--- tea and cupcakes--- really, I would have a tough time NOT liking this place. We discovered this place quite randomly a couple of years back and I am always happy to revisit. As with many buildings in Glasgow, you are immediately impressed by the decor and architecture upon entering. But, oh wait... the architecture is noticeable AFTER walking past a display of delectable cupcakes and specialty loose teas. If I'm honest, I think I've only had one tea here since I first visited. Their Gharra Chai is amazing. It may be one of the best chais that I've had from a tea room. On my first visit, the owner informed us that the was inspired by the recipe of the grandmother of one of the staff. Thank God for this girls gran. If this is your first visit, then you should definitely get a cupcake. If this is your second or third or hundredth visit, then you should definitely get a cupcake. They have good scones for those who don't like cupcakes, but why wouldn't you want one of their red velvet, oreo, or chocolate peppermint cupcakes? I mean really. But I'm aware some people don't like cake... hmmm.... well, Cup could change that ;) If you're in a rush, then they do sell their loose teas and cupcakes to take away. It's worth phoning ahead if you're stopping in for anything more than a pot of tea and cupcake, or you may not get a table.

We came here for a late brunch. The interior is very chic and it reminded me of New York actually. I had the chicken and mango salad sandwich and my bf had afternoon tea. My sandwich was delicious but my bf was not that impressed with his food. A little too much sugar according to him. I did have one of their scrumptious looking cupcakes, the toffee pudding cupcake, and while I liked it a lot I do agree it was a little too sweet. Their tea collection was quite good and I enjoyed the over all atmosphere but our experience at The Rose was much more impressive.

What a find! Thank yelp for leading me here ;) I love high tea places and am currently on a quest to try as many as I can! Decided to come here for lunch, the menu looked yummy so I went for a sandwich instead of the usual afternoon tea. I ordered the classic club which was probably the most delicious sandwich I have eaten..ever. there were 3 bread slices so as you can imagine, it was pretty big! There was a generous amount of filling. It also came with a little pot of salad which was quite cute. I think the sandwich was around £6 or so - amazing for the size of the meal. Definitely be coming here again, affordable and delicious. Oh, and the interior was cute :)

Wow-wee. This place is rather grandiose complete with old fashioned tiling and retro looking tub chairs. It reminded me of a smaller, less grand and less well-established Café Central in Vienna - there are old paintings adorning the walls and it has a French salon-esque feel to it. (If that makes any sense!) Me and my other half went here for a little afternoon coffee and cheeky cupcake (how could we resist the cake?! The selection and presentation was superb! We opted for the Oreo and Carmel varieties!) I found it really cosy and dare I say rather romantic - that may have had more to do with the company than the setting but it has an old worldly atmosphere to it which I loved. The coffee was good, the cake was better. I slightly regret not trying one of their innumerable teas on offer - from lapsang souchong to a vast array of white teas and their own fruit infused delicacies. There was even chilli chocolate tea (uh huh!) which I will definitely have to try next time. The staff were really friendly and knowledgable and explained all about the teas and coffees on offer. They made sure that everything was to our satisfaction and were really personable and chatty. Would totally recommend this place for an afternoon caffeine fix in an intimate and romantic setting. Magnifique!

Tea by day and gin by night, that's how this place rocks. I've enjoyed their cream teas but this time it was a morning catch up with a friend. A pot of tea & huge scone each (to be honest one scone between the two of us would have sufficed) in this beautiful art Deco building is the way I wish every day started. Relaxed with lovely staff it was a shame to leave and go to work. It's no more expensive than your local chain but it has that touch of class they don't so try it next time you're in town.

I love this place & quite frankly don't go often enough! The venue is huge, decor beautiful & just wow.. Opted for afternoon tea for two with a friend & what a lovely day we had! The actual tea menu is spectacular, something to suit everyone, herbal, fruity, caffeine free etc & I particularly liked how they all came with a "brew time" in order to deliver the perfect cup of tea! (The Tahitian vanilla is heavenly) Soon after our wee stand arrived, finger sandwiches/wraps & rolls, scones fresh from the oven & a selection of sweets on top! It looks fab & tasted even better, albeit it didn't look like much twas plenty (so much so we ended up taking a bunch of the sweets home!) The staff were uber friendly & happy to help / answer any queries - you can purchase the tea directly from them.. As if I need another reason to hoard more tea!!! Definitely worth checking out, even if its just for a cupcake & cocktail.

The delicious afternoon tea which is £16.95pp

They're about the same size and always packed, and huzzah, their sandwiches are delicious at both locations. I had walked by a few times the day I finally popped in for a late lunch, as they were swamped the whole lunch rush. I managed to squeeze in to the queue around 2pm and I could tell they had just been through the ringer with the lunch crowd. The guy ahead of me wanted a chicken tikka sandwich but they were out of a couple of the ingredients, so he ordered something else. When it was my turn to order, the guy jokingly said 'let's see if I'm able to make your sandwich!" I ordered the Chiken Ole which was chicken meat, manchego cheese, chorizo, salsa and a spicy mayo on ciabatta. The only one thing they didn't have was the salsa, which in exchange they offered me a bit of salad with some sweet chili sauce. I decided against the sauce and took the salad! What a delightful sandwich this was. My stomach is growling just thinking about it! The bread was freshly baked and so delicious, even at 2pm. The ingredients were all fresh and piled high in to the bread. I also grabbed a bag of crisps and a lemon mint san pellagrino. The greatest lunch on the go I've had in a long while. The guys in here were cool as anything and the music was great. The queues might be long but the sandwiches are worth it. They also serve soups, coffee and baked goods if you're looking for something sweet. I will be back for sure!

There are soups, sandwiches, hot and cold filled rolls (and I believe breakfast items as well?) plus toasties which all come with different fillings and you can pick whatever you want. They aren't stingy with the fillings at all as well which is great! I also highly recommend the macaroni cheese because it's DELICIOUS, you get a fair amount and it's just what you need when the weather's not the best and you still have to face an afternoon of work. Everything's really reasonably priced for what you get as well, especially when you compare it to some of the other places around there. Due to said delicious food, the place is always packed at lunchtimes with hungry workers, and the queue often goes right out the door - not that inside is massive, mind you. However, I never ended up waiting very long as the staff always serve people really quickly, they're very efficient! There are also different snacky things you can grab like the usual packets of crisps, teacakes and other Tunnock's stuff and also some very scrummy home baking - the caramel shortcake in particular is a delight. It is takeaway only so I guess that could be a downside for some people if you've got nowhere to take your food back to, but they really couldn't fit any tables in there!

When the slightly nervous server took out a whole chicken breast and started to carve it up, that's when I started to look at my surroundings in a new way. The coleslaw was devine and clearly homemade, and as I looked at the sandwich fillings spread out behind the sparkling sneeze guard, I suspected that they were all homemade and of the same standard. No fat encrusted subway bacon here! It has a little breakfast bar at the back to sit in, and aside from the nervousness of the server, both the people working there were very friendly considering I was only there for two tics. They also have a huge selection of sandwiches, as well as some more unusual options like a mezze box and salads. The chicken pot noodle is £3.50 but it's like no pot noodle you'd grab at the supermarket - this one has actual fresh things in it, like vegetables (cucumber, carrot and spring onion) and lovely chunks of real chicken. The menu is very similar to that of Pret A Manger with various baguettes, sandwiches, noodles, salads and panini's all on offer with artisan fillings. They also do what looked like a lovely wee line in Rwandan coffee but I'm sadly on a caffeine diet this week. I had the Parma Ham, chorizo, mozzarella and pesto panini (£3.99), toasted and to go. It was really tasty, the tomato pesto particularly tasted so fresh. The store design is cool, laid back, bit hipster-ish...think Pret mixed with Starbucks. I did really like the various saying's printed on the walls about the company ethos and the case studies of the people they have so far helped in to the workplace. The lady that served me was super friendly and only too happy to suggest to me additional extras with my meal and also gave me a loyalty card (eat 5 times and get lunch half price, 10 times and get it free). This is the kind of wee business Glasgow needs and I really hope it thrives.
