Big breakfast £10 with tea & OJ
    Briony C.

I was visiting the Tea Rooms for a meeting and loved the space - generous sized tables, comfortable cosy furnishings and a good level of chatter as background noise. I wouldn't normally order a full breakfast at 3.30pm in the afternoon but sometimes when you're hungry, you just can't think straight. The waitress egged me on too, so she's partly to blame. What was delivered was amazing - a huge (vintage) plate piled high with food. Tattie scone, toast, two perfectly poached eggs, grilled tomatoes, mushroom, square sausage and black pudding - yum! There are normally beans with it but I asked that they be left off as I'm pretty sure they are the worst thing to be invented in the history of mankind. Everything was well cooked and delicious. I can't fault any of it (although it is a little hard to have a meeting and eat a full breakfast at the same time, lesson learnt). For around £10 it was great value - and then to discover you also get a pot of tea and orange juice too - double win. Pro tip: the toilets are downstairs in the Butterfly & The Pig. No, this doesn't mean that you need to leave the Tea Rooms to get there! You can use the stairs inside the entrance of the Tea Rooms.

Is this heaven? It must be. I. AM. IN. HEAVEN. There's tea and cake a-plenty, all served up on the finest, most dainty crockery. Don your finest tea dress and put your pinky in the air because The Tea Rooms is just the place for afternoon tea and I bloody well love it. Small and quaint but with an almighty cake cabinet, just how could I refuse a pot of tea and a slice of carrot cake? Of course, I couldn't. And I challenge you to look at their freshly baked selection and and not quiver with sheer excitement. The mega cake slab that was served before us was enough for two so me and my mum were glad that we had opted to share a slice. I've recently found myself on an unintentional lifelong search for the holy grail of carrot cake. In my opinion, there is no cake like that of the carrot and I can't not order it if it's on the menu. And so, I can't help but judge a cafe on it's offering. The Tea Rooms served up, quite possibly, the best I've had. I wanted to lick the plate. No, no, no...I wanted it to last forever. It was moist, it was luscious, it had walnuts and a perfect cream topping. Delicious! It's the closest to carrot cake perfection I've come across and I await my next slice with great anticipation and a very sweet tooth. So, it cost me £4. But I'd say that's okay for a share-able slice for two. If I was there alone, I think I'd ask for a half-slice because they really do go to town on the portions. So, yes; for two, that's quite alright and I'd bear that in mind when ordering cake. Staff were really very lovely and made us feel extremely welcome and attended to, constantly checking the floor to check everything was alright. I'd definitely consider a full afternoon tea here at some point as, on first impressions, it really is the perfect place for it. Sweet!

Delicious High Tea at the Tea Rooms

Yummy, yummy. Huuuge amounts of cake. This might be the biggest high tea in Glesca and if you find it too much they'll give you a wee doggy bag to take home to complete your greedy stuff-your-cakehole-fest in the privacy of your own scullery. I think this is great value (£11 per person for high tea) and very nicely done. The cakes are very fine. The sandwiches don't have the crusts cut off as you would find in fancier high teas but are really tasty - and you get crisps tae! I love the oldfashioned mismatched-furniture-and-china look of the place. A cup of tea always tastes nicest out of fine mismatched china don't you think?

Loved the tea rooms! Such a beautiful space and the people are great! Especially nice to warm up on a rainy day. I enjoyed the berry scone with clotted cream & jam with a Darjeeling earl gray! Highly recommended!

After a busy morning I came in here to grab some breakfast grand city centre building giving a feel of "dam this is going to be expensive" Go in and hear some posh voices waffling away in the pretty decor and well laid out tables .... Yup definitely going to cost me more than a happy meal! I'm seated and straight away brought over a jug of ice water ..... Nice touch I'm given a menu and ..... Eh..... Is this correct ..... Are those prices for real???? That's cheaper than an out of town mediocre cafe!!!! Got the Smoked salmon eggs Benedict and a pot of tea Food was well presented and tasted amazing, the salmon was sandwiched between the bread to stop it from cooling the eggs I'm guessing. Tonnes of salmon and the bread had a nice crunch to it giving a lovely alternative texture to the soft eggs and salmon Negative, salmon was very cold and as such really cooled down the whole dish quickly, egg not as runny on the yoke as I would have liked Tea was lovely, the pot was enough to fill my cup 3 times Really great service even if they did pick the usual opportunity of me shovelling a fork full in to my mouth before asking how it is, if I was braver is spit it all over the table and answer rather than mumble and nod mid chew I loved the setting and loved the food I will definitely go back again

+ Interesting environment + Great atmosphere + Friendly efficient staff + Large portions of tasty tea, sandwiches and cakes - Dirty cups and plates (maybe a word with the plongeur or service the dishwasher) - Horrible, huge telly Afternoon tea. I'm very fond of the institution. I thought it would make a lovely birthday treat and with that in mind, I set about looking for options here in Glasgow. I've been to The Tea Rooms quite a few times before - usually with visitors - but it has been quite a while, so I was pleasantly surprised when its name appeared on the list. Naturally, I checked with the oracle of eateries before plumping for a table for two in Bath Street at four o' clock, Saturday. It was cold and wet so we cut our wee wander short and arrived ten minutes early. We were led to a table for two, handed a couple of menus and asked if we had any special dietary needs. Once we'd established that 'loadsa sticky buns and lashings of tea' would be best, we got down to the business of ordering a pot of Earl Grey and lapsang souchong. Did I mentioned that it was Saturday and that it was raining? It will come as no surprise then that the place was absolutely jam-packed! Nevertheless, we only waited some 15 minutes - we did arrive early - for our afternoon tea to arrive. If you've not been before, this gives you plenty of time to marvel at the veritable cornucopia of crockery. Honestly, it's a glazed League of Nations. Sadly, the effect is somewhat spoiled by the its general grubbiness. Oh, there were no chips or cracks; it could just all have done with being washed properly. This, combined with the general décor, falls somewhere between your granny's parlour and Hackney Wick car boot sale. I know it's already been mentioned by Chris D. but the humongous telly really is a bit of an eyesore. Luckily, we were seated right below it and the sound was muted. So, the afternoon tea...it's a belly-bomber! I'm glad we didn't get the two o' clock booking. The granny theme continues into the cakes, all of which tasted home-made. There were plenty of sandwiches - I didn't find them dry at all. Of course, we are not talking Bavarian smoked or Tuscan sun-ripened here; it's a piece on cheese and tomato. And, hey, it's not The Savoy and neither is the price! Overall, a very enjoyable experience! Great atmosphere - it really is best when it's busy. And at £12.50 per person I'd definitely recommend a visit. But don't take my word for it! Go along and make up your own mind.

Thanks yelp again for leading me here! I've only ever had afternoon tea at one other place before and I didn't really enjoy it, so I was really hoping this was going to be better - and thank god it was amazing! There were plenty of sandwiches with plenty of filling inside, some cakes which included a carrot cake; chocolate cake; 2x scones filled with jam and cream; a lemon cake and I think also an almond cake. There were also 2 oatcake slices with cream cheese and smoked salmon on top - which was my favourite I think :) it also came with a pot of tea with unlimited refills (only the water, they keep the same teabags). The pricing was probably just your normal price for a high tea, around £11pp but for what you got with it - definitely worth it. I really loved the decor as well, so vintage! I loved their little vintage teapots in particular - will definitely need to acquire one for myself!

    Afternoon tea (£12.50)

Friendly service. Huge spread for afternoon tea for one (£12.50) enjoyed the chicken sandwich with the side of chips and subtly sweet pickle slices. No tea sized Sammie's here. Large portions. My favorite of the sweets would have to be the scone smeared with strawberry jam and a generous dollop of light whipped cream...light and rich at the same time! This place oozes charm with their vintage teapots on display in a cupboard, fresh single stem flower at the table, small worn wooden tables.

Refusing to buy a cake in the Tea Rooms is a bit like refusing to buy a Big Issue from the same vendor you pass on a daily basis. Even though you really can't afford to and don't particularly want to, you know you should. The cakes, like the seller, glare at you. If they could speak, they'd be saying, "if you can't afford me, how come you're drinking a pot of tea?", just like the Big Issue seller thinks, "how come you're clutching a Gregg's bag if you can't help the homeless?". In my defence, my visit to the Tea Rooms came shortly after a grotesquely sized lunch and was only ever meant to include tea. Situated above the Butterfly and the Pig, the cafe is a classic mixture of old and new. The lovely china and grand, classically decorated tables are complemented by a big screen showing Sky Sports News, while people-watching on Bath Street through the huge windows serves as a reminder you are in the centre of Glasgow when, given the decor and atmosphere, it would be easy to think you were in the middle of the countryside. But this place really is about the cakes. Sitting provocatively in a cabinet at the front of the tea room, they continue to stare at you as you try to enjoy your company's conversation. The berries on top of the cup cakes follow you around the room while the two halves of the scones mouth the words "eat me". On this occasion I resist but next time will be different. In fact, that's it; new year's resolutions: eat more cake and help the homeless.

A bit like Miss Cranston's, this place is retro, eclectic, and decked out to be slightly old fashioned, but it's secretly modern. Baby sister of the Butterfly and the Pig (downstairs) , this place is something to behold. The old furniture, which is surprisingly comfy, despite how it looks, the mishmash of cutlery and crockery (you won't find anything matching - apparently it's all 'antique'), you'll find people as old as the furniture (sorry, no offence), sitting gabbling over tea and cakestands. Mmm... french fancies... It's random, and that's why it works - my only probelm is with the flat screen tv - just when were they about in the olden days!? Too modern, guys, too modern.

First time ever having tea (a must for anyone visiting the UK) and it was a great experience. I got the afternoon tea for 13,95 pounds. I chose the rhubarb ginger tea and got a cute little pot of the delicious stuff. The little tray of treats had a few baked goods, some sandwiches, pickled cucumbers, a cracker with smoked salmon, and some freshly made potato chips. The baked goods were all delightful and some of the best I have ever tried. The sandwiches were amazing as well; all had unique flavors. Wonderful first experience!

Although in hindsight we should have probably booked a table for afternoon tea, we were really well looked after and had drinks in the bar downstairs until a table was ready, at which point an exceptionally lovely lady came down to fetch us. My sisters and I had the prosecco afternoon tea and there was so much cake we had to take some home with us. We fell in love with the mismatched china and furniture and with the delicately pickled cucumber slices. The perfect way to spend a relaxed yet oh-so-civilised afternoon.

This tea room is associated with the Butterfly & Pig pub. One door down bath street towards the town. It is is the ideal place for afternoon or high tea or eating early before the cinema or a show. The hours are from 5 to 8pm do be prepared and get there in plenty of time. The food is cooked here and is simple but excellent, the bread and cakes are also baked here by hand. The menu is small but perfectly formed and only the most churlish would not find something to suit. The chintz and bric-a-brac hark back to earlier days and the service too is reminiscent of this being polite and efficient. This place is very highly recommended. The cutlery, plates, tables, chairs and ornaments are all authentic in their age. This is grand recycling and you probably reduce your carbon footprint by enjoying yourself here

It's a nice space, bright and airy and positioned on a corner, so if you do want to while away the hours doing some people watching it's perfect. It was a £10 donation - to cover ingredients, decor, and towards start up costs of the Sunshine Tea Lounge business - and BYOB. We were shown around the secret location (address private messaged to attendees a couple of days before) and presented with a refreshing ginger & lime mocktail. There were little dish name cards spread out on a table but I didn't note them all down so I may be slightly off with descriptions. There were around 20 guests and we spread ourselves out in different rooms, some people sitting on a sofa or on provided chairs, and some of us standing. This wasn't an official Yelp event but there were quite a few of us Yelpers there. First dish up was two bowls of lotus root dip and fried crispbreads. This was one of my favourite dishes of the night, the dip had lots of flavour and the breads were delicious. Next was the lotus root crisps with a lotus root dip, this one a bit more creamy in consistency than the previous ones. The crisps were very thin so these were not really as suited for a dipping style, but also tasted great. Following this were green peppers in a garlic and black bean sauce - this was very tasty and I could have eaten a bowl of this to myself easily. We then had a salad of greens and carrot topped with sesame seeds, and some hoisin chicken wings were also brought out. Next was firecracker rice with either a vegetable curry or a chicken curry. As the plates that had come out were for sharing with a large group of people I was quite hungry by this point and was looking forward to loading up in carbs. The curry was nice, very mild. I did wonder what happened to the dumplings as I'd seen place cards for different varieties of dumpling - and mentions of them on social media for tonight's event, but none ever materialised. Lastly, there were desserts of orange and cardamom cakes, and sweet potato mochi in a coconut sauce - the latter being suitable also for vegans. Again, these were all shared and self service, so I felt I had to be considerate with watching portion sizes. It was good to be able to chat with chef & host, Susan, at the end of the night about the food and other Chinese dishes. I have opted to give it a 4 as although I enjoyed the event, the Yelp event a few weeks ago - where there were only 8 people - looked a bit better in that everyone had a seat to themselves for the evening, their own portions of food, and more opportunity for chat about the Sunshine Tea Lounge concept - discussing the mood boards, etc. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for future events; unfortunately I can't make Susan's pop-up in two weeks' time but I hope to make another of her events soon!

I then had a beng - a mighty big fried thing stuffed with shitake mushroom & vegetables. Both items were fried, so not exactly the healthy choice, but my gosh they were tasty. Ideal hangover/comfort food. It would set them off nicely to perhaps be served with some fresh salad. I'll watch with interest to see what Sunshine Tea Lounge do next.

They're about the same size and always packed, and huzzah, their sandwiches are delicious at both locations. I had walked by a few times the day I finally popped in for a late lunch, as they were swamped the whole lunch rush. I managed to squeeze in to the queue around 2pm and I could tell they had just been through the ringer with the lunch crowd. The guy ahead of me wanted a chicken tikka sandwich but they were out of a couple of the ingredients, so he ordered something else. When it was my turn to order, the guy jokingly said 'let's see if I'm able to make your sandwich!" I ordered the Chiken Ole which was chicken meat, manchego cheese, chorizo, salsa and a spicy mayo on ciabatta. The only one thing they didn't have was the salsa, which in exchange they offered me a bit of salad with some sweet chili sauce. I decided against the sauce and took the salad! What a delightful sandwich this was. My stomach is growling just thinking about it! The bread was freshly baked and so delicious, even at 2pm. The ingredients were all fresh and piled high in to the bread. I also grabbed a bag of crisps and a lemon mint san pellagrino. The greatest lunch on the go I've had in a long while. The guys in here were cool as anything and the music was great. The queues might be long but the sandwiches are worth it. They also serve soups, coffee and baked goods if you're looking for something sweet. I will be back for sure!
