Their baked goods are always really fresh and tasty, the service always fast and friendly, and seating is quiet and cosy.

Excellent baked goods. We had their pumpkin pie for a family dinner and it had rave reviews all around!

I am Frequent customer at Bread and Roses for their sliced cake. This time I bought a whole cheese cake for my mother's birthday. It's so fresh it felt soft and mousse like. Delicious! The top was blueberry purée like jelly and there is no cookie base. I must say, the person that helped me has really nice icing skills. (Let say I got a cake somewhere else the month before and the icing skills was not this great. It was off centred and messy.) :P Overall, I brought this cake home to one happy mom and she enjoyed the cake very much. Only one comment from her was not topped with strawberry purée lol. This cake got quite a bit of height as well. The price is reasonable $22. Doesn't feel too heavy when you cut a small slice out to eat. Having that 2nd slice maybe too much lol. I hope they have more variety. Every time i come in, it Seems like the selection of cakes are the same. They may change up the fruits in their fruit tart due to seasons. But the sliced cakes are pretty much the same. However, Will always revisit! read more

A neighbourhood gem amongst a selection of bakeries in Bloor West Village. They have fresh breads, pastries, cakes and sandwiches. So far I've tried the danishes, coffee, bread and cookies. I've enjoyed them all and have bought them multiple times. It is advised to go earlier in the day because they often run out of goodies in the late afternoon. I really enjoy their cookies, especially their honey oatmeal cookies, which I find to be unique and not something I see common elsewhere. A little dangerous that they're $1. Beats cookies at larger coffee chains big time read more

I came in looking for a cake to take home for a friend's birthday. As soon as I walked in, I noticed the really friendly service from everyone working. In the midst of the current pandemic, everyone is a little on edge so I appreciated the service even more! They had a few different cakes to choose from and I ended up picking this beautiful raspberry chocolate cake. They wrote a message on the cake for me and I was in and out within 5 minutes. The price was also great (smaller cakes are $22 and the larger ones are $35). Unfortunately, I didn't get to try the cake but my friend said it was amazing. Definitely looking forward to coming back when times are better! read more

We were having dinner at a friends place around the and was searching for a pie as dessert. I'm so glad we stumbled onto this little neighborhood gem!! They had a whole shelf of pies with an assortment of fillings, and the service was very patient as we mulled over our choices. We settled on the blueberry pie and it was definitely a hit at the dinner. They also have a wide variety of baked goods, from scones to bread to meals (I saw someone having soup). The peach danish looked so good that we had it as a pre-dinner snack. The pastry was light, the custard was generous and the peach was juicy. I haven't had such a good danish in ages! Will be back if I'm ever in the neighborhood again. read more

On a nice sunny day I was walking around the Bloor West looking for something to eat. I decided on a staple, Bread and Roses, for the homemade Egg Salad Sandwich. Upon entering you walk into cramp quarters, the counter feature a glass window showcasing of all the bake goods. Once you walk in you can smell the fresh bread and pies. Expect a line up during lunch. Unfortunately the line can be slow but, the Sandwich is being made fresh. I order my Egg Salad Sandwich. Unfortunately they only had Whole Wheat left. The bread was still sliced fresh. It was topped with fresh lettuce and mayo. The bread was so soft and the crust had some crisp. The egg salad was nice and creamy. This is definitely one of my favorite places for a sandwich. I didn't get one this visit but, the bake goods are great, especially the pie! read more

Bread & Roses Bakery Cafe has a great vibe and a great selections of baked goods. Sweet, Sweet, Sweet and More Sweet! Plain Croissants - Not bad, not buttery enough! I can tell when it is not too flaky and crisp when I tearing it apart! Cookies - soft and chewy cookies... great little bite size... Chocolate Macaroons - intensive coconut sweetness... a little too sweet for my taste, but my friend seems to enjoy that! Great to have one of this with a strong cup of coffee The servers are all so friendly and helpful. Large seating area if you want to eat in... even when I buy that one Macaroon she was nice enough to ask me if I want to have it to stay! read more

The coffee: I ordered a decaf so they had to make it for me. It was one of the best coffee I ever had, miles above Starbucks. I even suspected they mistakenly give me a regular coffee but I slept well at night so. The carrot cake: good quality, tasted great, lots of nuts and not too sweet. It's solid and soft at the same time. The service: all smiles and a lot of attention. They didn't have decaf ready so they made one specifically for me. The price: $5.6. Inexpensive to say the least. read more

It is always a competition between bread&rose to hot even. Every time I judge by smell and bread&rose wins mostly of the time. The chocolate raspberry cake and blueberry pie are so good. The price is even better for the quality and taste!

Stopped in last week because I had a MASSIVE sugar craving and I really really wanted a brownie. Bread & Roses delivered! My brownie was decadently sweet. The icing was luscious and though I made a mess eating it, it was a mess I gladly licked clean. I bought my roommate a fruit tart because it looked so beautiful (I secretly wanted to eat both but stopped myself). I'm super happy to live close to here and will be fulfilling my sugar cravings here again soon. read more

If you love pumpkin pie, this is the place to go! When I was new in Toronto I googled the best pumpkin pies in TO to complete my Thanksgiving meal. And I am so glad I did. From the moment I tasted this pumpkin pie a few years back, I've been coming back every year for more. Their butter tarts and coconut macaroons are also delicious! The only drawback is that they only offer the pumpkin pie seasonally and the washrooms at this location are very unfresh so I always take my things to go. read more

Bread & Roses Bakery Cafe - Butter tart with pecans and coconut macaroon - Bakeries Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

In the time of coronavirus, I returned to Bread & Roses Bakery on Bloor. They currently have a limit of two customers in the store at one time. The selection of pastries is reduced, which is understandable, considering the lighter volume of customers. During this visit I tried an apple danish and a pecan danish. Both were very nice; the apple danish had a ricotta based filling, while the pecan one had a custard filling. Service was friendly. read more

Came here at the recommendation of a friend. It was quite good. It's quite busy, but the selection of pastries is good. They are light and not overly sweet, not the best I've ever had, but still super yummy! Make sure they know you're in line because they sometimes can't tell between the people who are still looking and people who want to order. Soups are quite underwhelming, other food doesn't look super appetizing...it's all about the pastries! read more

Certainly love their double baked almond croissants ! Worth a try if you're in the area! Very friendly customer service.

There's certainly not a lot to complain about, I truly enjoyed my experience here and honestly can't wait till the next time I'm in this neighbourhood and can visit again. I give it a 4.75. The staff was really friendly and although they didn't have one of tye ingredients to make the drink that I wanted to order, the lady was willing to accommodate and made my drink completely customized! It was quite busy when I arrived and as a matter of fact, it was busy for the entire 5 hours I was there doing homework (works out great that their Wi-Fi is reliable). Every time I looked up from my seat there was a line up at the door, maybe it's because it was a Saturday? Theres a huuuggeee selection of breads and pastries to choose from, all of which looked absolutely delicious! They also serve sandwiches, bagels and soup. The obly negative is that I saw their prices looked a liiitttllee in the pricey side, but they did look like quality sandwiches, so maybe it's worth the premium. read more

Bread & Roses Bakery Cafe - Almond Toffee Latte, very yummy :) - Bakeries Near Me - Toronto, Ontario

I've been coming here since the 90s. Bread and Roses is a Bloor West Village establishment that I grew up with. The soups are top notch (someone told me its the same recipe from the old days when the bakery was owned by a Polish family). However, my past few recent visits haven't left me with decent sandwiches. A soup and sandwich at B&R was always my go-to when going for lunch. Today I think it will be my last time. I usually get avocado in my sandwich. Luckily I was watching the server make my sandwich as she nearly put all black avocado into my sandwich. Adding avo to a sandwich is an extra cost and I'm not sure the person eats avocado... but black avocado is no bueno. I want to vomit even thinking about it. I asked kindly for fresh avocado and she delivered. However, when I got home to open my sandwich, the pieces of tomato she chose were the middle pieces, very light and hard and mostly stem. It wasn't a busy moment in the restaurant... I think it's fair I should be getting fresh pieces of product when I'm paying close to 20$ for a soup and sandwich. (PS. the sweets there are the best. I can't even complain about those chocolate chip cookies!) read more

Can't say enough about this place. From the warm greetings of the staff to the deliciousness of the food. What I love is how fresh and warm all the food is on a daily basis. What really gets me is the croissants and some of the desserts that you have to wake up early for. Love how they don't leave food out for the whole day, but have a first come first serve belief system that albeit makes me miss some of their staples in the mornings, makes me happy to see their dedication to freshness. Spend every other Sunday there due to convenience of location and due to their freshness, cleanliness, amazing customer service and the fact that the food is such as homemade should be. A hidden and under-advertised gem in the midst of Bloor West Village, one of the cosiest neighbourhoods in the city. Recommendations: chocolate chip cookies, Red Velvet Cake/cookies, almond croissants, double chocolate croissants, BLT with extra avocado, Potato Bread, Creamy Tomato soup, Cauliflower soup, Cucumber Soup (with crackers), Natas, Carrot Cake, Mushroom Melt, Pizza Bagel, Cheese Danish, Cinnamon Bun, Pot Pie. I've tried a lot of different foods, and everything is absolutely unbelievable. read more

They have a hygine problem here...I saw a cockroach while I was dining...on two separate occasions. That is one and a half times too many. The first time, I let it slide, but two times?! Also, their "fresh squeezed orange juice" they say they make in house and charge $4 for, is a lie. An employee let slide that it is actually just commercial orange juice from a box. This establishment lies to customers. read more

Great neighborhood place for sandwiches, soup, quiche, baked goods :). Order at the counter and there is a good amount of seating. Lots of old people but they're not rowdy at least haha. The turkey pot pie is to die for! Sandwiches are all with fresh baked bread yum! Decent prices (9$ for quiche/pie + small soup). I tried the cake as well. BLack Forest. Cake itself was moist and not too sweet but there are no cherries and the whipped cream is like the supermarket cake kind. All in all nice place to grab a hearty lunch . read more

I've lived in the BWV area for almost 10 years and never dared ventured into Bread & Roses...until now! I was always scared off by hoards of European seniors on the patio and crowding the front counters. I finally decided to "woman up" and push my way in there. I had a baby in a stroller and figured if it was too busy, I'd grab lunch to go. To my surprise, it was relatively quiet inside and I even spied a few empty tables that I could sit and park my carriage. I ordered a toasted turkey sandwich ($6.99) on multigrain bread with extra pickles on the side, a coffee ($1.55) and a chocolate cookie ($0.75). Service was quite friendly and delightful. They delivered my lunch tray to my table after I ordered. The turkey sandwich was delish - the addition of cranberry sauce was a nice surprise! I think I'm going to be a weekly regular here and I attracted some new senior friends with my baby. I'm in with them! read more

Bread and Roses is an average bakery with a large selection. I made the mistake of coming in here wearing a toque and carrying a backpack on a cold day. The girl managing the line completely skipped me. I finally realized that I must've looked homeless, and found someone else who was willing to wait on me. She seemed to know what happened and compensated by being super nice. (They must have a problem with homeless people here... Either in attitude or challenges with begging). The food here is hit and miss. Cleanliness here is hit and miss. The cinnamon rolls are huge, but mostly just bread. The cookies are better than many, but not the best. The sandwiches are better than average. Prices are commensurate with good value. read more

Saturday's in the summer the sunny patio is packed Bread and Roses, while in the winter, people take solace inside. Warm soups, fresh bread, and a mushroom melt sandwich that will make you weep can easily fill you up and make you feel warm again. And while sandwiches are all good, I mainly go for the sweets. They make mean pies, sugar cookies for every time of the year and serve these fantastic chocolate chunk cookies that are soft, chewy and a bit crunchy all in one. Really, seriously, it's becoming a problem for me because Bread and Roses is open later than other bakeries in the area and it's so close to my apartment! read more

Bread & Roses is a successful blend of cafe and bakery atmospheres. You can get a light lunch on the front patio or inside, or just walk in and grab of loaf of something and be on your way again. Neither "space" feels like it's encroaching on the other here. Bread & Roses has a wide variety of baked goods, although you have to use your judgement if you want to find a good deal. The bagels are great at $3.50 per half dozen, but the pierogies at $5 per half dozen seems a bit steep--even if they're the size of calzones. read more

A must-visit when you're in Bloor West Village. I've been a customer for a few years now, and their staff is always friendly. Yummy treats for folks of all ages - the clientele mostly local stay-at-home moms with their kids, local senior citizens and high school kids (during school year). Their freshly baked breads are fantastic and if you order a sandwich to stay in to eat, they will cut you nice, thick, slices from their fresh loaves. It gets a little busy during peak times (lunchtime, especially). There is lots of seating room inside and in the back, and a cute patio with bistro tables outside in the summer. Prices are what you would expect from Bloor West Village. Stop in for a treat. You'll like it. And yes, the cookies are great! read more

This place has the best pastries/bread at the most affordable prices. A hearty lunch can be had for under $10/person. It can be a bit difficult to snag a table during lunchtime but people tend to vacate the tables quickly after eating so you shouldn't have to wait too long. Bread and Roses has been a staple in Bloor West Village for many years. It changed owners many years ago and that's where the problem arises. The staff is friendly but many are not fluent in English. Today, I went to put an order in for their amazing danishes. They did not understand what I was saying. They boxed 10 danishes! That is not what I came for. I paid in advance and after raising my voice and repeating myself many times, they finally understood my request. This place has great sandiwches and soups. They are large and plentyful and full of flavour. The staff is great too. Oh! and the pumpkin pies (large and small) are excellent (when they are "in season" of course. There's an amazing selection of breads too. I remember this place being way better when I was in high school, but I'm not sure if the baked good tasted better or if I have greater expectations now. First off, if you're gonna order anything here, order the chocolate macaroons. SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO good. They were good when I was 19, and they're still good at 29. Also, they make a delicious turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce. I bought a blueberry pie here for a coworker - she loved it, but she has no sense of smell, which means her taste buds aren't very reliable. I've personally had way better blueberry pies (Wanda's Pie in the Sky). I order custard tarts here and I seriously had to toss them. So gross. Maybe it was a bad batch? read more

Bread and Roses is always busy. This is a good sign. I find Bloor West Village to be not a very delicious neighbourhood as a whole. Bread and Roses is one of the best options for a healthy sandwich, salad or soup for lunch with fresh fresh fresh bread and a forgettable coffee. The number one reason I stop into Bread and Roses is the chocolate macaroons. If you are a fan of these chocolatey, coconutty creations, this is THE place. read more
