Their prices are a bit high (and I'm presuming have gotten even higher due to inflation), with their bakery items averaging at $5 the last time I went around a month ago. They have quite a lot of seating at this location, even when the mall is very busy. Went to Yorkdale to do some shopping, and stopped by Michels Bakery for some baked goodies. I used to love coming here to get a quick pastry during my lunch break when I used to work in the mall, years ago. I loved their chicken salad sandwiches and their quinoa salads. They also have pre-made sandwiches to go and, hot foods like beef stew, lasagna, and sometimes chicken curry. Line up was moving quick, and service was fast and friendly, I got me some savoury pastries and some sweet pastries to go. They had a buy 5 get 1 free special. I believe they always had that, and sometimes if you go before closing, they have buy 1 get 1 free. Anyway, I still very much enjoyed the savoury pastries, but the sweet ones were not the same as they used to be. Next time, I will just opt for their savoury vs their sweet ones. read more

I understand the struggles we're having with inflation, the impact Covid had on the industry and supply chain issues, but $5 for an average croissant isn't justified. For fans of their ham and cheese, you can see from this pic that they're using sliced ham vs cube and it's a flat pastry vs the previous multi layered version. If you have any trouble finding this place in Yorkdale...just follow your nose! The aroma is very potent and can really pull in a crowd. It has seating both inside the store and some tables out front. If it's super busy you might find yourself having to sit at the couches a little farther down. I was really thirsty after trekking through Yorkdale for a few hours. I was looking for something refreshing and not caffeinated or in a bottle. I settled on getting a mango smoothie (they also have strawberry) for $4.70 before tax. That seemed a tad bit expensive, especially since I wasn't entirely sure if it was fresh fruit. It turned out being pretty thick and it was good but it did taste like canned mango. My mom had the iced tea refresher which is an artificial mixer (kind of looked like Kool Aid) and iced tea from a tub. She said it was also pretty thirst quenching but a bit on the sweet side. We also split a ginormous blueberry cheese danish which was perfect for two people. It was really tasty. Flaky pastry that held together when cutting into it and a nice balance between the sweet blueberry jam and the cheese. It's pretty busy there all the time and the staff are actually kind of curt with people. It's chaotic because there isn't a dedicated cashier and they all switch off so you wind up getting shouted at by a lot of different staff. They also didn't take my name or anything so when my drinks were ready I just had "hey" shouted at me lol. They have cutlery available to the left side of cash and the also have paper straws. read more

I checked out the high end bakeries in Yorkdale. Firstly, I am not a fan of macaron. Secondly, the pain du chocolate was nothing special i.e. everything at the two high end places are, in my opinion, grotesquely overpriced for what they are. Michel's Bakery is no frills see what you get and is perfectly acceptable without the hype. Their counter service is rushed and busy but polite. This is still my go-to at Yorkdale. I tried one specialty chocolate croissant and another cheese and jam Danish. Total added up to $7.35 including tax. They tasted meh, maybe even a bit dry. It wasn't bad, but just nothing special. It tastes the same as the pastries at the grocery store. They have a good display and presentation. I give this restaurant three stars. I have been to Michel's Bakery Cafe at least ten times, most recently in March. Michel's has a wide selection of soups, salads, sandwiches and baked goods. Its always busy but the line moves quickly and all of the staff are friendly. All of the food is consistently good but not amazing. On my last order I got a toasted sandwich and it was extremely salty. With that being said, I could and would eat almost anything on their menu. I think the prices are a bit high but I keep coming back because I like the majority of their menu items, particularly some of the healthier soups and salads. I was blown away by how GOOD this place is. I'm not a fan of bread/bagels/baguettes.. anything like that really. But my friend and I stopped by and when I tried his fanzette with cheese (basically a gourmet croissant with a sausage and cheese- looks like a westernized 'cheun jai bao' for all my cantonese folks) The pastries and baguettes look super fresh and they are not understaffed at all. So many people working hard in an assembly line and customer service was great. The pastries are also very unique and they have stuff like a pizza croissant. They also had a staff giving out free smoothie and baguette/cinnamon bun samples- THE MANGO SMOOTHIE BLEW MY MIND. Also, very fresh samples because when I came back a second time ten min later to get my own cheese stick (my friend's fanzette taste lingered in my mouth and begged me to come back for more. That tease.), anyway- new samples were out. Yum! Only downfall is that it is a bit pricey- his fanzette was around $5... Very efficient although there's always a inevitable line here. For first timers like myself, it's all sorta confusing because the two lines intersect each other. I tried their onion and cheese bun, which was a good size and absolutely delish! They do have a pretty good size seating area so you can sit and eat. It's like a food court, only they have people to clear the tables. If you are lucky to find one that is clean during busy hours, then grab it. Otherwise you'll have to wait until someone comes to pick up the trays and plates. We waited for a while but luckily got a place. There is so much to choose from - sandwiches, soups, baguettes and a huge assortment of delicious pastries. Naturally, I opted for the broccoli and cheese crossaint with a mocha and was extremely satisfied with my selection. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious and price is also quite reasonable - on par with most coffee shops. It was a little noisy and cramped as tables were squashed snugly next to each other but I think that's the charm of such places! I love it at Michel's bakery. A perfect place to meet up with friends if you plan on catching up at brunch. Since it is in the mall you can always go shopping afterwards or even go to the movies. I usually get the chocolate cookies from here. They are loaded with chocolate chips and are the softest cookies I've ever eaten. If you are looking for something to fill you though, I would recommend getting their Cajun chicken panini and always makes sure you get it on the sesame bun. Also the their pizza, they just recently changed their style of pizza so it looks like a personal pizza you order at restaurants. The last thing that I would recommend everyone to get and suggest trying at least once is to get their bagels (plain specifically) with their butter. They are the softest bagels you will ever have in your life. It's like it melts in your mouth as you eat it. The lady we solicited help for deciding our menu was inexplicably grumpy and seemed to lash out at our questions which were fairly reasonable (i.e. which are the gourmet soups among the regular soups?) The beet salad we ordered with the sandwich was far from fresh and the gourmet thai chicken soup was salty and the regular soup so-so. Not the place you want to grab a meal with a friend (or even by yourself if you care about customer service) but the breads and coffee I wouldn't mind having to go.
