In Covina visiting family. The Line Fire was in full effect and it was over 100 degrees out. So hot and bad air so I wanted a good meal and a cold beer. I found Bread and Barley on Yelp. It sounded great so i went. It was pretty dead in there, which is totally fine. It has a cool aesthetic inside. I opted for the Muffuletta sandwich. Delicious! Burger is delicious! Fish and chips are pretty good, but breading can be a big bland if you don't dip. They have very nice selections of beers. Very nice ambiance. Great place for a hang. Beware it's freezing cold (metal chairs alert for girls wearing shorts!), but makes an especially great spot when the weather is hot outside. The staffs are very attentive and quick (probably that's why there is a little service charge on the bill). This pub is located in downtown, so you'll need to park in the structure. We have been coming here for definitely over 6 years since the interior looked much different. Our review is much overdo. This is our go-to spot on a weekly basis and sometimes multiple times a week. We really enjoy the ambiance, the fluctuation of beers on tap and especially the menu. The food is our standard in many cases when visiting other pubs and we always come back. We've been here on dates, with family, for celebrations, throughout COVID for takeout, and any other event you can think of. Special shoutout to Karen and Becca. Our favorite visits are always when they're working. Karen's food stands out; especially when we're talking fries, wings, and burgers, basically everything. Becca is always so welcoming, friendly, and often knows what beer we want before we do. This place is so cute!! Husband and I went during brunch, we were just walking in the downtown area browsing so we didn't eat, we stopped in for a drink. The brunch menu is pretty limited but I did enjoy the beer selection! I had the "I choose yuzu" lager, so smooth and delicious. But the waitress was really wonderful, she was so sweet and attentive. Dropped in after going to a memorial service just few hundred feet away, met up with friends from long ago. Seems like a nice bar with regular bar food: I got myself a hamburger, others I. The group got shrimp or fish tacos, and we also shared a fried Brussels sprouts dish. Bar options are extensive , the waitress tonight let me have a sample taste of their beers : one was a strawberry light beer (Fruli strawberry beer - 4.1% alcohol) and the other was a barley wine ( 12% alcohol!) called Fat Hog - I usually pick drinks if the names seem curious or interesting. Neighborhood has several other restaurants, most of which seemed to have a steady patronage since all the street parking seemed taken. Also a Laugh factory venue that was also just letting out by the time we left the bar. I liked the worn tables, open ceilings, subtle lighting and not so loud music. We stayed till last call for the kitchen at 9 pm, but the bar and alcohol situation was till closing at 10pm. Brussels sprouts dish was quite delicious, my companion said the fish taco was spicy though (Even with Pico de gallo on the side), but the others must have enjoyed the shrimp tacos because they ordered one more for the road. Stumbled upon Bread and Barley while looking for places to eat after learning the place that has a soft opening today only serves drinks. This gastro bar is a total delight- from the high ceiling to the brick walls and the cool lighting. Good food and friendly service were a plus. We ordered Fried Brussel sprouts and the Bread and Barley burger which came with a choice of side, we decided on regular fries. The brussel sprouts was 5 stars. Perfectly toasted not bitter. Tossed with nuts and bacon bits in a balsamic glaze dressing. The burger was more than enough split between my sister and I. Cooked as per our instructions with fries that are not salted nor greasy. Our server "Z" was friendly and quick to take our orders. A 3% service fee is added to all tabs. The fee is waived when paying withcash. There are street parking available as well as a public parking structure half a block away. The restroom was clean and we'll stocked. Definitely would come back with the whole family. read more

Her family paid their tab and left, we had ordered our food already at this point. They charged us gratuity for a party of 3 (our friend didn't eat as she ate with family). The waitress was very friendly, and checked in on us, but not to the point of doing so too much. Food-wise, there's just two items available for brunch: breakfast burrito and chilaquiles. You have the choice of bacon, asada, or soy chorizo for the burrito. I went with soy chorizo - the burritos look small, but they're compact. I was quite full afterwards; there are no sides with the entrees, and the burrito also comes with egg and potato. The pico de gallo that came on the side was bland, but I liked the seasoning of the soy chorizo. Bathrooms are available inside. Credit cards are accepted. The server suggested the carne asada fries and the pork belly tacos. The carne asada fries, WOW! Super tasty! I don't normally like those as they tend to be too oily but the sauces they used were very tasty and well balanced. The pork belly tacos weren't as good as the carne asada tacos. The burgers and sandwich were really good, the ambiance was great with the Trivia by Rob Smith. However, the Service was abysmal. We got our food relatively quickly, but never took a drink order. When we had been out of water for a while a waitress dropped off a carafe. Other than that, they never checked on us and we had to go to the counter to pay the bill. The travesty was they had more help present than occupied tables and we could see them on their phones and gabbing, not attentive to us at all. It was a bit surreal.
