had a faulty DLC port that prevented me from getting a smog check next door at Downtown Smog, so i walked over to Brea Auto Electric and asked if they could try and get it working. i initially signed off on a $135 charge for a technician to investigate, and then call me with an estimate on the remainder of the service. almost two days went by, at which point i was calling twice a day for updates & was told "still working on it" three times, when i finally got a call saying my car should be ready the next morning, and that the technician had spent four hours solving the problem. first off, i am relieved they found the issue & did the repair, but i am not a fan of how i got a phone call after the work was complete, letting me know four hours were spent identifying the problem, at $90/hour, as i was explicitly told in person (and on paper!) that i would receive a call with an estimate of how much the repair would be, and i myself called three times! in retrospect, would have i thrown away my initial $135 investment knowing the final bill would be $360? not sure. but it would have been nice after the first day (or the second day) the final bill would be close to three times the initial price i agreed to, especially since i was calling in to check on the progress! anyhow, i am glad its over with, as other places i called were backed up for another week, but i am not sure i would return or recommend them to anyone i know... read more
