I'm revising my review with a higher rating because the owner reached out to me personally to find out what happened and manage the situation. I appreciate that. read more

Hidden find in the Marina. There is no sign or any indication that this is a restaurant. It is truly hidden. Went here with Brian A. and friends after happy hour. I was craving for a burger!! When I entered the restaurant, I felt I went back in time to the 1920s. I felt I needed to wear a flapper dress. It was dark. Very dark. The bar (like an old Irish bar) was on the right side and the restaurant was on the left side. We sat near the front where there was a large round table for my group. It was difficult to read the menus because of the lack of light. My eyes finally got used to the dim environment. Then I noticed that they don't accept credit cards. They take only cash or ATM cards! That's absurd for a place that charges $30 for an entree. Really...seriously? I quickly got over it since I was starving for a burger. I ordered the Brazen burger with swiss cheese while my friends ordered the french onion soup and the ahi tuna tartare. My burger was medium done and was delish! Lots of juice and great flavor. However, I wished the bun was a little toasted more to hold the meat. After a few minutes, the bun got soggy. I was sad. The burger came with a side of mash potatoes which was good. My friends liked the french onion soup but the tartare was just OK. The restaurant is known for their NY strip pepper steak. I will try that next time. All in all, I thought this place was nice and intimate. Service was great. The only downside was that they don't take credit cards. SO be ready to bring in lots of cash or just an ATM card. read more

Great food, cozy interior, open late! Doesn't take reservations or credit cards though.

I agree with Angelica M. that Brazen Head is somewhere between a 3.5 and a 4. After having an incredible fail reservation at Bobo's for steak, I ended up at the Brazen Head, an unmarked little restaurant in a less touristy- spot of SF. The food here was actually very surprising. The filet mignon is pretty good, along with the mashed potatoes, and the steak with sauce was also pretty darn delicious. Waitress was very friendly, but we had some issues with payment at the end, knocking this place off a little for me. They only accept either cash or debit. Since I was here for a work conference and wanted an itemized receipt for reimbursement purposes, I requested for one. She explained that their machine was broken and she could just make a copy of the written out order she took for us. I asked for the alcohol and food payment to be made separately, but after charging my debit card for the alcohol check first, my card failed the second time for the actual dinner. After talking with my bank and talking to the waitress again, she explained that she had experienced this issue with previous customers before where the card wouldn't be accepted more than once. If she had known that, I wish she would have charged the card for the bill itself first, as it would now be harder for me to get reimbursed. In any case, the food itself was delicious. Just beware if you're looking for an itemized receipt afterwards. read more

I am a regular on the weekends. I don't post on these sites ever but I saw a great and heroic thing tonight I thought I should comment on. A man was choking next to the bar and an amazing Brazenhead Service Professional Shelley saved this man's life by giving him the hylemec maneuver. Thank Goodness she was working! Great bar..great food, great Servers.and great bartenders! Best place in the City ! read more

This is my first 5 star review and I feel it was well earned. I'm giving it an additional star for ambience, cause I feel like there are a ton of restaurants I love in SF but the ambience isn't that great, and this place has it all. I went here with my significant other for a date night, and it certainly delivered in terms of being a good place to take a date or family. I was a little wary of the service before I got there, cause most of the complaints on here were about the service, but I found the service to be very good! We were greeted right away upon entering the place, and the host was very friendly, polite, and joked around with us. He also let us know about the no credit card policy right away. The waitress we had was just as attentive and professional. She took our order and plates away promptly, was pleasant, and never let my wine glass get low ( we ordered a half bottle) without pouring more in. The food was very good. We got the roasted garlic and camembert, which came with peppers and prosciutto, which I thought was a very nice touch. Tue-Thurs they have prime rib, and the flavoring and tenderness of the meat was excellent. The only semi-issue I may have had, was that the cut wasn't big enough, but that was only because it was so good, I wanted more. Still, for $21 you got prime rib, a huge baked potato, vegetable medley with a nice butter/garlic sauce cooked to perfection, and garlic bread, so I can't really complain about that. All in all great place, and I will be back, and will take others here so they too may know the goodness. read more

I love Brazen Head. Ok...... they want me to say more. I love the environment . It's Cozy and CharmingGreat food. I usually (always) have the small filet. Good service. Very nice and attentive servers. It's about time for me have another Brazen Headexperience. I drive over the Golden Gate Bridge, which I also love, to have dinnerat Brazen Head. This not a paid announcement. A friend who lived In the neighborhood introduced me . Enjoy read more

My hubby and I arrived here at 9:00 on a Saturday night, looking for a nice steak dinner. After shoving our way through the crowded bar area, we saw that there were 3 empty tables in the front of the restaurant. Yeah! The hostess informed us that the wait was 45 minutes. Boo! When we asked about the empty tables, the hostess told us that they were holding the big table in case a large party came in (ok, fine) and one of the smaller tables for a couple who had gone out to another bar for a drink before dinner (???). I thought they didn't take reservations, but isn't holding a table for someone a reservation? Since we didn't feel like waiting 45 minutes in a crowded bar when there were 3 perfectly good empty tables, we decided to eat elsewhere. So we walked to Izzy's, where we were seated in 15 minutes--in spite of the fact that they were very busy--and had a lovely dinner. read more

It has been a couple years since I've been to BH. But I still remember how hard it was to spot the place. Once you do, it's a friendly joint. Just keep your voice down and concentrate not to bump into people or tables(it's dark). Had a small table in the back. Immediately we ordered dozen of oysters, meat platter and a soup. It was close to midnight so it's more for snacking than a meal but the oysters were very fresh. I can still smell and taste each one... read more

I used enjoy this place because the food was solid. went here about a month ago on the late night and ordered a burger. they ran out of fries or had none and offered mashers. they didn't say instant mashers. WTF is there a potato famine i didn't know about? read more

My other Marina dining spot. I love this place for a late-night steak. I took a French friend (and huge food/wine snob) there once, and he was tickled pink by the cozy atmosphere and flirted outrageously with the waitress. She was gracious enough not to smack him and the food did not disappoint. It never does. read more

Tucked away on a corner in Cow Hollow is this relaxed yet refined and romantic restaurant. If you didn't know it was there, you would miss it and walk right by. Grab a Guinness or glass of wine at the bar before dinner. Don't miss the French Onion soup, it is amazing. Bring cash, because they don't take credit cards. read more

My husband and I had high hopes for this restaurant. Unfortunately, it fell short in almost all areas. We arrived early on a Friday night because we didn't want to have to wait. We were the first patrons in the restaurant. I don't like to eat early, but since this establishment doesn't take reservations, we thought it would be best to arrive early. The waitress, with blue hair, was not very attentive. I don't even recall her giving us her name. She wasn't out going and lacked personality. By the time we ordered there were only two other two tops in the restaurant. We ordered the signature NY steak and the salmon. As we waited for our food, I noticed the other tables were served bread. The tables that came in AFTER us. After several minutes, we never received bread, so I asked her for some. Needless to say, by the time she finally brought the requested bread, our food arrived. The signature dish was nothing to write home about. It lacked flavor and was slightly tough. The dish also came with a small portion of mash potatoes, spinach, and mixed vegetables. The salmon was cooked to perfection and was delicious. I wish we would have ordered two salmon dishes. All in all, with all of the AMAZING places in the city to eat... there is no need to waste time at this establishment. read more

Actually one of best places I ever been! Great vibe Amazing food! I order New York strip with rice and broccoli the stake was done just right(medium well) the had a flavor that reminds home with little beans and carrot just right! The design of the place very cozy and warm, looks like a place from a different century in s good vibe! Very recommended read more

The Brazen Head has my favorite steak in the city, the New York strip pepper steak. Creamy, peppery and smoky - this is how steak should be done. Gotta love that Black Angus goodness. The escargot always whets my palate. The Caesar salad is textbook. The Brazen Head answers our call whenever my pops and I need a dude's night out. Ballin'. read more

I mentioned earlier that I'd had the worst mojito of my life at Moby Dick in the Castro. Here I've had the worst cocktail of my life. I don't even know if "worst" is even harsh enough. I think it might have been perhaps the worst beverage I've ever even tasted. And it wasn't just me. I made my two grown male friends try it, and they recoiled in horror at the taste. Shocking. read more

I mean, where can you have out of this world dinner at 2am? No where! If you missed dinner before 10pm everywhere else in the Marina then this is a no brainer. But it´s also a good place all in all for dinner. Alert: the ambiance is super romantic so guessing it´s a good date spot as well. read more

This is one tiny but amazing restaurant. The night I went the lights had gone out so the whole place was covered in candles. It was very romantic and I would say that the "guy vibe" was not overpowering at all. The place was intimate, the food excellent, and the service very attentive. read more

Can i say the most satisfying meal i have had this year. I was on a date and everything was amazing. The venue is very cozy and has classy feel to it with wood paneling and a deep red carpet. First off the bar tenders here really know what they are doing. And trust me you will be ordering a drink here because the wait is a long one if you don't come early. This did not bother me at all, the hostess was very sweet and we could tell that the food would be good. So back to the drink, my Dirty goose martini was great, i still crave it to this day. Once we did get seated the service that we got was excellent. Very friendly, polite and professional. they have a great wine selection and even offer half bottles. I had the fish special and my date had the rib eye. We both cleaned our plates. For dessert we ordered the pot de creme which i suggested that we take home so that my date could smear all over me lick off. YUMMY!! My date wanted to get some kind of port but was unsure and the server kindly brought us a few samples which was very helpful in making our decision. This was one of the best dates i have ever been on and i know that the location had alot to do with it. 5 STARS all the way!!! read more

what a great find!!! i love the dark romantic feel. amazing service. crab cakes...probably the best i have ever had. bf got the peppersteak (he loved it)...my petite filet was TO DIE FOR!! they only take $ or debit card which was totally fine. great atmosphere. service and food!!! we will definitely be back read more

First off let me first thank all the fellow yelpers for recommending this great corner, no sign, delicious restaurant! I went here for my bday extravaganza dinner and it was perfect! They arranged for 10 (yes that was like half the restaurant) of us to have two tables together and managed to squeeze us in the corner. The french onion soup is probably one of the best I have EVER had, it was that delicious! Then I split the cheeseburger which also was great (grilled onions, yum!). Points for being so accommodating with my large group, the french onion soup, great beer on tap, good wine (so says my wino drinkers), and cheeseburger Minus points for our waitressing first asking the bartender how to fit us (um, put the tables together), messing up orders, and then leaving us with the atm machine for 15 minutes! A great place with good food and ambiance! read more

Nice place but service was a bit slow. Parking is a major issue but the food was pretty good

Wear your big girl panties! This bar has boozers! Mike, behind the bar, runs a tight ship and keeps everyone in line. We didn't try the food, but had a great interlude. read more

Top things that stood out to me during my night at brazen head was the goat cheese salad and the pot de creme dessert. I would probably go back JUST for that thick creamy chocalatey dessert. The restaurant is situated in the Marina with zero signs. On the menu it seems to be their CLAIM TO FAME. That to me is just strange, do you not want people to find your restaurant? That's like having a restaurant with no food or no tables. It's just a strange business strategy. Anyway, luckily there are zero other establishments on this street so we knew this had to be the place. Even the menu didn't have their name, the only reason we knew we were at the Brazen head was because on the menu pasted on the window there was a burger called the brazen head burger. We were seated quickly and the place started to pack up real quick. The place reminds me of a ski lodge or a cottage at a national park type restaurant. The menu is full of hearty american dishes served with baked potatoes and vegetables. I chose the pork chops which I really enjoyed. Drinks are small and not refilled even though it's a bar, that annoyed me. Service is VERY slow. I asked the hostess at one point to refill our drinks (that cost me extra) and she looked at me like I was crazy. Listen if the waitress wasn't so busy I wouldn't have asked you. Prices a little high for food that seems like I could get anywhere. 3 people, around 130 without any alcohol. read more

Very solid food choices and everything tastes great. Service is good, waiter/waitress are knowledgeable and everything they recommended was exactly what we wanted. Prices were on the higher side, but nothing crazy. Very small inside and waiting at the bar basically means not moving and hugging a wall. read more

This place is very convenient as it's about 20 paces from my front door, but it's also really great. Whether it's my last stop on the way home from dinner out or where my mom requests to go when she's in town, I'm always happy with Brazen Head. The staff is always helpful and the food is simple but great. Overall, it's a good neighborhood haunt. read more

Whiskey, steak, and conversation with my beautiful wife-- Win Win Win! This place was a major hit for us. Keep doing what you're doing because you're doing it right. Jimmy the bartender is god, he somehow is always cool under pressure. At the table the waitstaff is polite and courteous. I really enjoyed the beer with friends I had here about a month ago and I left feeling excited about coming back at some point to try the food, which is served until 1am! **** 1 month later: My man-partner and I got into the city on a late flight and we were considering a burrito, or similar late-night fare, when we realized that we hadn't yet tried the Brazen Head. It was a Sunday after midnight but to our surprise the woman was cheerful when we called and told us that they had a table waiting. Yay! The first potentially negative thing that I noticed was the lack of variety on the menu. I can deal with a small menu, BUT if you're going to have a small menu, you'd better do those few items very well. And when I saw the prices...Let's just say I had high hopes. My partner got the carpaccio and I got a Caesar salad and we shared the Fettuccine Alfredo with prawns. The Caesar salad was your typical lettuce and crouton situation, however I had one taste of the Alfredo sauce and decided that my boyfriend could have the rest. None of the food was what I would consider good or even fresh. The bread pudding for dessert was a little better...Dry, but definitely edible. I think the Brazen Head is fun place to have a beer, but don't eat there. Go have a fresh and flavorful burrito amongst the obnoxious post-bar crowd instead. read more

This place is really great for late night dining.

4 Stars for an overall great time. It is hard to beat the intimate feel of this place... and i do mean intimate.. i am pretty sure that there are less than 20 tables in about 500 sq. ft. Anywho, the service is fast and in tune with the kitchen (you can tell that most of the wait staff has been there for years). The food, while not outstanding, it certainly tasty. I had the pepper steak, which is one of their classics. They also have a killer carpaccio. read more

Mmm, mmm......my significant other is a big fan of this place. It was my first time visiting. I liked the ambiance, especially the trees outside with the blue lights, like a little mystical forest. Tables are close together, you will find yourself involuntarily eavesdropping. I didn't feel cramped though, just cozy. I really enjoyed the beef carpacchio and tuna tartare. ALOT. The escargot was divine. I love how much garlic & butter surrounded each little delicious snail. Hnh! Collectively at our table we ordered: the burger, 2 chicken marsalas, the linguine and spinach salad. All of it was 4 stars or above. Bring your ATM card/cash or get stuck doing dishes. We met the owner who was very personable, it made it feel that much more intimate. I enjoyed the sheer # of mirrors in the ladies restroom once my buzz was in full effect, always good to know your pants are zipped & hair is coiffed. Vain, I know. I'd go back & recommend it to friends, especially for late night grub. side note: We ordered the T-vine wine (yum!) and it was tres'-interesting, seriously, read the story on the back of the bottle. I think the winemaker did too much acid. read more

I love loud, dark places that serve serious meat. So I love Brazen Head. The burger is OUTSTANDING.

Great location, cozy spot tucked away that just has that bistro charm. I wonder why everyone can't get that ambiance because it is great. I have only eaten there a couple of times and thought the food was good but not great, but writing this review makes me want to give it another try. read more
