Hmmm.... a little bit of sanity in the Marina. Part Pub, Part Restaurant. They seem to be famous for their steak but everytime I want one they're out. They have a wait staff that is very friendly and knowledgable. Good beer selection and Great food. Minus 1 star for the excessive number of LOUD old farts populating the bar. There isn't any action here, only good food. One of the reasons I like this place is that it's quality food you can get at 1AM. No spanky's, No late night greasy spoon, just yummy grub you can digest. Oh yeah, no freakin' sign, and no freaking parking. That's the way I like it. Arrived home sooo late from a very delayed flight and was starving at around 10:00 pm so I ordered pick-up around the corner from here. I was so hungry but knew I'd regret a heavy meal so I ordered the meatballs. Ready in 10 minutes which I appreciated and was an easy pick-up. Meatballs were pretty salty I thought, but meaty and nice 3-size portion with bread. I had small fixing of greens at home so made for the perfectly sized meal. it was bloody pouring rain and this place was a warm and a dimly lit haven. there was a lady who was a wee tipsy at the end of the bar. thankfully her friend and the bartender were watching over her to make sure she could get home ok. we've all been there. 1. the special pear spinach salad had tasty hearts of palm and blue cheese. it was a generous portion and enough to share for 2. 2. the pork chop special was double smoked and had a topping of gorgonzola. the smoky flavor and the saltiness of the cheese was a little too much sodium combined. next time, i'll opt for the regular pork dish which has a loin cut and a cider reduction. sometimes simple is better. i'll also have to come back to try the filet though the they are known for their pepper steak. hmmm....so many choices. 3. the pot de creme was rich and delicious. perfect for sharing. cash only but they do take atm cards so be sure to bring either. although i would not recommend this for large groups, it had ideal little cozy nooks for two or tables for four. read more

I just called this place to inquire about where they get their beef/steak from. I noticed that some of the reviews mentioned that the steak is from Creekstone Farms. The woman I spoke to thought I was trying to sell her beef?! All I wanted to know was if they *still* served beef from Creekstone Farms. She got offended and rude and kept saying "Who are you? Are you trying to sell me beef? Is that what's happening?" I was looking forward to having dinner tonight at The Brazen Head but I will definitely never go there considering this is how rude they are BEFORE you even step into the restaurant! read more

I have been to Brazenhead a few times in the past without indecent. Last night I was meeting a date there for drinks and I arrived 15 minutes early and took a spot at the bar. The bar started to fill up about 10 minutes before my date arrived and a guy asked if I was using the chair next to me. I replied that I had a date joining me in a few minutes. One of the bartenders (an older white gentleman) immediately interjected in a parental tone telling me "we don't save seats here". I said ok, promptly paid for my drink and met my date outside so we could go elsewhere. There were no more seats left at that point, but had there been I still would have left. It is not the policy I had a problem with (the policy is somewhat understandable), it was the condescending tone the bar tender took when telling me about it. It was not an acceptable way to talk to a paying customer and I won't go back there. read more

Place is the real deal. Terrific people, friendly bartenders, and impressive food, imagine the Cheers bar without the tourists and with subdued lighting, two TV's for viewing sports event of the day. In this age of designer, snotty, small plate hipster food where 200 calories of edible flowers is considered a meal I love places where you can sit down to a proper dinner. Very nice, but small dark wood paneled room with soft lighting and an old school vibe. One of the best, filet mignon's I have ever had. Perfect medium rare. There could have been more of the very good bearnaise sauce. The green beans were perfect, the mashed potatoes were a little thin for me. The bread was just ok. I asked for ice cream with the excellent chocolate pot de creme, which was no problem. The waitress was nice, she looked and acted very professional. She was busy but took care of all diners well. A lot of reviewers complain about parking but there is a parking garage just up the street on Union, really easy to park. read more

I found this gem of a restaurant about 10 years ago by accident when I pulled into San Francisco late one night and was staying down the street (they serve a full menu until midnight). Since then, going to the Brazen Head has become a first night in the city tradition, like an old friend welcoming you back to the Cow Hollow neighborhood. I got to spend two evenings there during Thanksgiving week and one of them was with the owner Eddie working the bar. He was delightful and accommodating and we enjoyed our time there immensely. The food is always phenomenal and they even made a couple of special off-menu dishes we asked for that were on point. You could eat at hundreds of other places in San Francisco and get a good meal but for the unique local feel, the service and the intimate atmosphere, you cannot miss the Brazen Head! Kudos to Eddie for making our vacation dinners everything we wanted them to be. read more

Went here last night. The service was phenomenal as were the drinks, they even made us a vegetarian dish off the menu which was very nice of them. What's bullshit is the fact that we were charged $24 for a plate of pasta, sun dried tomatoes and mushrooms. We were charged more than they charge for veal. This place is not vegetarian friendly which is evident by their menu but why have us stay and then penalize us for it by charging us an egregious amount of money for pasta which cost $2.50 a box. I'm livid with what happened and they did nothing to rectify the situation even after we told them the food wasn't even that great. Awful business practices. read more

CALLED 911 TWO TIMES ON THIS PLACE TONIGHT once for ANIMAL ABUSE, then from being physically assaulted and battered by the owner, because I had reported to the police dog abuse. My first call to 911 was because a dog was tied to a fire hydrant outside in 51 degrees temperature, while the patron was enjoying dinner at this expensive place. I reported this to the hostess. The owner of the dog, stumbled out, clearly drunk, and confronted me, while I was on the phone with the police. He did not seem like a bad guy, but we clearly have different ideas about treating dogs. After he left, I stood outside the establishment, and a man who looks like he could be the owner was clearly angry at me for embarrassing his customer. I told the owner, that I was just concerned that a dog was tied to a fire hydrant in 51 degrees. His response was that was nothing for a dog. Then he told me that "the thing that pisses him off is that you're wearing sandals and saying this." I responded that, "I'm not tied to a fire hydrant with no choice." The poor dog that was tied to the fire hydrant had bald spots on its skin. I was just trying to protect a poor animal with no choices. The owner clearly did not care about animal abuse, but only his high paying customer. The SECOND 911 CALL I MADE FROM HERE, was when I was drinking a club soda, at the bar, and the owner, Eddie sat at the barstool, shoved me hard many times against the wall, stuck his fingers in my club soda, handed my soda to the bartender and said I was 86'd. Then he kept shoving me against the wall and told me I need to leave. The bartender did nothing to restrain the owner from assaulting me, even though many patrons were clearly disturbed. Several patrons were clearly bewildered why the owner would be assaulting me physically over and over and requested that he cease his behavior. I tried to take a picture with my phone, but he fought with me to grab the phone away. I called the police and kept them on the phone while I left this place, to at least have a recording of the owner's violence. read more

Oh my gosh SO good! Don't let the "hole in the wall/ no sign out front" deal turn you away. I was very skeptical going in (even after reading the other great reviews) but I'm so glad we stayed here for dinner! We waited about 45ish minutes and the bartenders were very personable and friendly. They really made you feel at home and like a local. It's very dimly lit but wowza the food is to die for. My friend and I both ordered the petite filet with creamed spinach, green beans and mashed potatoes. The steak was perfectly cooked at medium, and I could not get over the creamed spinach--honestly the best I've ever had. This place tops pretty much any other steak house I've been to, and is so cheap! I would recommend this to any and everyone coming to SF! read more

Great food. However, we had a terrible experience with their staff. We used a Groupon. First, we had a tough time finding them as they have no sign outside, when we got there, the Menu had the words, "Brazen Head, The Restaurant with no Sign" written on it... What? Why? If you're trying to be so exclusive and private, why offer a Groupon? We ordered the steak, which I ordered in the smaller size. When I ate and saw the bill, I had been charged for the bigger size. No problem, I explained to the waitress. She outright refused that I had mentioned anything about the size. Which, I argue, she should have checked with me herself anyway, and why bring someone a bigger size be default? It's not like she didn't just bring me mashed potatoes by default just because she forgot to ask me what side dish I wanted? This rule is pretty convenient. Anyway, it was deelish so my husband and I ate the whole thing and considered paying for the thing anyway. But before we could, she did a little calculation on our bill and said, 'You know guys you did get a Groupon, if you take that out from the total, you are only paying $16 anyway!!' AAArgh, gross!! We know that! I had to remind her that she was the waitress there, unless she was moonlighting for charity after her day job as a neurosurgeon! I got pissed at her and complained to the manager about this person and why they were doing the Groupon if they felt they were being robbed blind by it, or if they didn't want poor groupon users in their restaurant, don't put the deal out! She just giggled and said, know, I know, I know ... ?? From me experience, I felt insulted and will not be returning. read more

I really really enjoyed The Brazen Head It's literally a hidden treasure tucked away in the Marina. No sign on the window or door, no commotion outside, no bells and whistles. It's a quaint restaurant with an old school vibe, great food and wonderful patrons and staff. The interior is so cozy due to it's very dim lighting and dark wood furniture and panelings on the walls. I ended up eating here late one night after a few drinks over on Union Street with a date. It was about 11:30 and this place was packed. Where else could you get a quality steak dinner util 1:00am? I don't really know. We waited at the bar and had a few drinks before being seated, which wasn't very long. I had the Chicken Marsala which was incredibly moist and filled with flavor. We ended our meal with porto (they have a nice selection!) and a tasty New York cheesecake. Perfect end to a great meal. Can't wait to eat here again. read more

I stumbled upon the cozy retreat after a long night and could not have been more satisfied..granted - I had been drinking - so refused to post my opinions until I was fully there. Since then my experiences here have been amazing and look forward to many more. My most recent visit was this last Friday. I was tired and LOVE low key Fridays - so the thought of going to Brazen Head could not have been a more perfect setting as to what I was looking for. We meant to go for just a drink and ended up staying for a few hours and sharing a couple of appetizers - not hungry enough to have full meals; however, their food is DELICIOUS! The bartender spoiled us with great service and we didn't want to give up our perfect bar seating by leaving early. OMG! I rarely write Yelp! reviews but the meal tonight at Brazen Head deserves mention because of just how poor it was. To say that the food was sub-par is an insult to sub-par food everywhere. On the ride home with my wife we just looked at each other and said "Holy Crap, that might have been the Worst Meal Ever". Now that the taste in my mouth has faded it maybe isn't the "Worst Ever" but it definitely ranks in the Top-10 both. First Course: Salad and the Garlic & Camembert Cheese/Garlic App. The salad was soggy and bland at best. The Camember Cheese just needs to be heated up so no points are given or taken away on this one Brazen Head. You're lucky you didn't mess this up or I might have tried to figure out a way to give you negative points. Entrees: This was "la piece de resistance"....When my wife took the first bite of her bolognese she actually gagged at the table to which I said "Are you okay! Let me taste that". To my shock it was bonefiably the worst pasta sauce I'd ever tasted. It was a weird mix of half cooked meat, nastyness and gut level disgusting thrown in. To say that it was cafeteria level pasta sauce would be a slap in the face to cafeterias everywhere. Yuuuuuck. My wife was soo hungry from working a 13 hour day as a nurse that she just ate the Penne pasta quickly with tons of salt added and as she ate it she basically scraped off the sauce so that she wouldn't throw up in her mouth at the table....My veal picatta was hockey puck tender and the sauce wasn't even close to a piccata sauce. It was an overly sour red sauce of some sort and was served with rice and barely cooked carrots...hmm, yeah, umm, guys, what's going on in the kitchen? If you are the chef of Brazen Head or the manager of the Brazen Head your food is embarassing. From the looks of the place I think people must like it because it's dark, they've consumed an average of 3-5 matinis, and well, after that much booze bad food maybe ends up tasting good. I'm truly shocked at how many positive Yelp! reviews this place has received. My wife and I tried the Brazan Head because of Groupon, our first time buying a Groupon. The good thing is we can only go up from here as far as future Groupon purchases, the Brazen Head has set the bar so low. read more

Two stars for the rude bartender. Friday night hanging with some buddies at the bar. Had the displeasure of having to deal with one of the worst bartenders I've met while living in SF. The guy not only made a sub par manhattan, but also was rude and seemed put out when we ask for more drinks. Not only that, but he overcharged us 2x times on the bill and when he finally got the bill sorted out, he asked sarcastically if I was a CFO. Of course the answer is no, I am not a CFO. But I do know when a bartender overcharges me by $60 bucks. Only had the appetizers and they were just decent. Definitely bummed this place ended up being a dud, because it does have a cool ambience. The problem with yelp is that people can give places like this less than four stars without any consequence. I love the brazen head. Get the carpaccio, tuna tartar, escargot, roasted garlic bulb, salad of the day, oysters, any entree. This is the perfect solution to the late-night eating problem, and a really good place to go on a date. Even though I'm the 80th person to review the Brazen Head, what I like most about it is that it feels like the best kept secret in the Marina. (Which is really saying something, since I get the feeling that there aren't many kept secrets north of Union--and that many, many things are shared. If you know what I mean.) I came here after a dinner date, when we decided we needed to split another bottle of wine somewhere somewhat far away from the madding crowd of the Triangle. We sat at the bar next to an adorably chatty older couple who regaled us with stories of their vibrant youth, and of their long-standing relationship with the Brazen Head.
