Wow! The best meal I've had in quite some time. Amazing staff, the atmosphere makes the dining experience something special, the food.... everything comes together to make one perfect dinner experience. The veal piccata was to die for, prime rib excellent as was to be expected and the lobster bisque was Devine! 100% recommend going out of your way to find this hidden gem! read more

Told there will be a thirty minute or more wait. Okay. Heard this place was good. So, sure. Already paid for the Lyft ride to get here. Told we could sit at the bar as well. Ten minutes in, while still unsure about what to order (and continue to look at the menu) the bartender finally came up to us to ask what we'd like to drink. My husband asked for an ice water, as we were still considering what to order, and the bartender answers with a really crappy attitude, "well the people behind you don't mind eating at the bar, so would you mind giving up your seat to people who actually want to eat at the bar?" As if we wouldn't have ordered once we figured out what to have. We were also there much before them. So guess what? The attitude just lost you customers!!! Didn't know that I had to order something alcoholic to keep my seat--guess I have to pay my toll per minute in order to be in the room. Guess this place has too much of a bad attitude to have good service. Edit after comment: It wasn't just the choice of words. It was the choice of rude attitude and tone of voice. And it instantly lost customers. read more

Get the burger...I'm sure they sell other stuff, but why would you get it in this late night dining establishment? Walk into this place and you're transported back in time to an old school hide away. The bar is tight and the lights are dim. Be patient though because you might not get seated right away and it might take a bit of time to get what you ordered. If you can get past that you'll have a good time. Forgot...they don't take credit cards, just ATM bank cards. read more

This place is part of Date Plan #7. A small, cozy restaurant that is basically a local's secret. There is no sign out front, so you better know where it is. That also ensures that you get a nice local crowd...and a nice story to tell your date. The inside reminds me of an old fashioned pub...with lots of dark wood...and low lights. Very manly...but in a non-threatening way. It is a very casual atmosphere...have a couple of cocktails at the bar, while you wait for your table. There are no reservations, so be ready to wait if it is crowded. The noise level is not bad...there always seems to be conversations going on...but nothing overbearing. Most of the tables are small intimate ones for two...and people tend to linger and chat. So if it is crowded prepare your liver for more than a couple of drinks at the bar. The food...is solid. Standard American fare...surf and turf. French onion soup...pretty much everything is good. Besides the cozy atmosphere the best thing about this place is that it is open late for dinner...till 1 am. So this is ideal for when you want a solid meal in your stomach before heading home at the end of a evening out. Oh...and they don't take credit cards...so don't spend all your cash at the bars. Save some for the French onion soup. read more

I'm not sure when I had my first burger here, but I immediately put them near the top of my burger bible to be. I like the place for a lot of reasons beyond the just plain great burger. Ambiance, cool, discreet, respectful of all those who pass through the doors. Located in the quiet residential space between the Marina and once flourishing Union Street, and without signage, it can be hard to find, but worth the trouble. It's like a hideaway joint from an earlier era, but pretty solid for food and drink. I love a place so confident that it has no signage, is cash only, serves grub until 1:00 AM, and is so dimly lit, jealous exes and fed up spouses won't find you in the darkness. For people who operate only on plastic, there is an ATM which is their condescending cave in to modern times. It's a really friendly place and most of the patrons are upwards of their 40's, and well dressed with the sweet smell of success following them like fog. The burger is substantial and good. The meat is top shelf and formed on premises, cooked to order with some precision and served on a nice, big toasted menu. I like cheese and they offer options so I settled for a good cheddar that was perfectly melted and just shy of falling off the plate. Pedestrian fixings, and MASHED taters seemed almost Southern and vengeful, but they're good, very good. I prefer my potato crisp, a touch of grease and lightly salted as in some kind of fried form. The service is good, the staff seems to know the vast majority of their clientele and also appear to genuinely like their jobs and those they serve. The full service bar is almost always busy and very smooth and current with drink and liquor knowledge. Parking is a bitch, so may take a cab, and plan to spend some time there, it's cool and a lot of fun. read more

I met an old guy in a bar and he said this was a pretty good place. I'm so glad he gave me the heads up, because otherwise I NEVER would have found it. Even when I knew where I was going I almost walked right past it. There are NO signs. Amazing food. It was the kind of meal I tried to draw out as long as possible so I could savor it. My group had the lamb, Chicken Marsala, and the Fillet Mignon with Bearnaise sauce. All of it was great but the Fillet was perfection. With appetizers, 4 meals, a salad, desserts, and beers all around it was $150 which was very reasonable for the quality. read more

I dig the old school vibe. The people there didn't leap over the tables to seat us, it's true, but we were there for a steak and drinks on date night and not urgently trying to get "somewhere else." The dining area is narrow - cozy - and there is a bar where locals meet and make a little noise, but it certainly wasn't raucous. We went nuts... Multiple apps, dinner, dessert, drinks. Crab cakes: divine! Finely minced, perfectly crusted and hot, with a slightly spicy sauce to top them off included. Went well with our refreshing mixed drinks. The french onion soup is indeed great! Delicious stock, browned melty cheese, just right. The pear and goat cheese salad special, while fresh, was the least memorable taste of the night...but the pears were ripe and tasty. On to the STEAK! We had pepper steak with the sublime sauce, and a filet that was wonderful. Sides were good, mashed potatoes tasty but probably get baked potato if you want the most food. We liked the Alexander Valley Cabernet with our main course. Finished with chocolate Pot de Creme which was wonderful! A wonderful evening together all around. Recommended! read more

Came here with the family in August 2015 for a mid week dinner during our vacation. The Brazen Head is a total hole in the wall, small, dark place with character. The food, service and drinks, were all very good. I recommend the oysters as an appetizer, French onion soup, the prime rib sliders (best I've ever had) and their manhattans.... All were stellar. We will be going back the next time we are in San Fran (at least I didn't say Frisco). read more

Awesome local spot...even for people traveling from the East Bay. The hubby and I have dined here since 2006 and w keep coming back! It's a small trek from Concord but worth it! We just ate her for what seems like the thousandth time last weekend. As usual the service does not disappoint and neither does the food, Him, peppercorn steak (he always gets it cuz it's that good), me, prime rib (rare as they will serve). MMMMMMMMM!!! Their french onion soup alone is worth the drive.Best ever!!! We will continue to come back until they ask us to leave for eating everything...wear stretchy pants to fit it all in...everything is delicious! Bring cash to pay and have patience with parking. Bon appetit! read more

Stopped by with a friend for a beer early Saturday evening and after looking at the menu, decided on dinner. Seated in a small table in the front, we were immediately greeted by the waitress. Friend ordered the pork chop and I got the prime rib, end cut. Escargot as the appetizer. The hot butter and garlic morsels were delicious and dipping the bread in the tray made sure no part was wasted. Enjoyed the wine until the entrees came. Wow! Wished I ordered the chop until I tasted the prime rib. Perfectly cooked with pilaf and creamed spinach it made for a wonderful meal. This is a noisy place but the food and attentive staff more than compensated. We will be back read more

I love the dim light and shady feel to this place. I shit you not, the escargot is awesome!!!

Delicious! Great food, great service, very affordable and I have not seen the place too overcrowded. The French onion soup was so so good. Definitely recommend trying this place (if you can find it!) read more

Ok, I didn't really appreciate being told that there was a wait for a table, only to have my friend and her husband walk in 3 minutes later...they were offered a table immediately? Strange. I didn't think my husband and I were THAT unattractive!! We were meeting them anyway, so I like to think I got the last word. Pretentiousness aside, the bartender was quite helpful and conversational, and our server was friendly but not overbearing. My hubby had the filet and I had the pork, both of which were quite good. The mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were fabulous. Then comes the awkward part where they bring the debit card machine to your table. Particularly odd when one couple pays cash and the other uses a card and the host stands politely while you try to figure out who pays what. I could have done without that. All things considered, I'm not sure why I really liked this place so much - perhaps it was the company, or the fact that we were eating somewhere seemingly exclusive because there is no sign. Either way, I'll come back and try it again. read more

Sigh. What a disappointment. We had friends in town and we decided to go to a "locals'" place. Two of us had been there before (years ago) and fondly remembered it. We called to check availability (no reservations, just didn't want to wait 45 minutes). The hostess said she had a table, so we gave her our name, told her we'd be RIGHT THERE, and ran to the restaurant - all in about 7 minutes. Of course...when we arrived, she had given the table away. Oh well - she said she'd have another table (for 4) within about 10 minutes. We sat at the bar. The rating on this restaurant experience is only saved by our bartender, who was great. And they have a very reasonably priced wine list. Which we got to know in depth, as the promised 10 minute wait turned into 45!!! And...good thing WE checked with HER, otherwise we'd probably still be sitting at the bar. We ordered the garlic (fabulously cooked - delicious), french onion soup (great), a ceasar (horrid - the gloppy dressing clearly came from a jar), 3 strip steaks (their specialty) and a veal picatta. It was difficult to tell the dishes apart as they ALL HAD THE SAME BROWN SAUCE/GRAVY. Correct me if I'm wrong, but veal picatta is supposed to have lemon and caper, correct? Not at Brazen Head. The only difference in the plates was the thickness of the meat and the fact that the veal came with rice, while the steaks came with mashed potatoes (neither side dish was appetizing). We took our leftovers home for the dogs. UGH. Service was nice. This was not the meal we were expecting, and none of us will be returning. read more

I love the Brazen Head. This place does not get enough credit. It is a gem of a place that not many people know about, or go to as a destination restaurant. I lover the cozy ambiance and all the wood fixtures. We went there around 10:00 p.m. for dinner. The staff were so nice to us. The owner came over to chat us up a bit. I had escargot with butter as a starter. Oh, they melted in our mouth. I had the Salmon dish for dinner. Ok, I am a Salmon snot. It has to be juicy, light and moist with a light toasted crispy on the top. This was the on of the best I have had except for the Bacon encrusted one that I had at the Cliff House. I loved the coziness of the place. One Minus: Parking is a bear in the Marina/Lombard area. They don't have a garage, so you have to search like crazy. read more

Just had a wonderful dinner at the BH. We started the meal with the roasted garlic and Camembert cheese appetizer, which was yummy, and added a nice Sauvignon Blanc wine. I followed that with a perfectly cooked petit fillet mignon with baked potato, and nicely seasoned vegetables, and my boyfriend had a yummy prawn scampi dish with tasty, fat shrimp. In addition to the good food, we also enjoyed the quiet atmosphere with the soft sounds of blues music playing in the background. The only reason it did not get the full stars, was because we showed up at four when they opened and unfortunately found out they didn't actually start serving dinner until five, so we had to wander around the neighborhood for a while before we could eat. Other than that, I highly recommend this hidden neighborhood gem. read more

Had the WORST dining experience in a long time! I don't know our server's name but it he was the only one on last night. We come here all the time because we work in the industry and get off late. Went with my boyfriend and our good friend to celebrate a job promotion. We started off by ordering a round of cocktails and a bottle of frank family, then we moved to appetizers and entrees. We ordered two cowboy steaks, one medium and the other medium rare. When the steaks came out they were almost well done. I didn't want to complain but for a $50 plate I politely mentioned to our server that they were both over cooked. First he told us that it was the lighting, I mentioned that we actually brought out our phones to check and had a piece of the steak that was super tough because it was well done! He took our plates to the kitchen and he then returned and told me, "I'm going to disagree with you about the steak temperatures and we're definitely not going to make two new cowboys so..." I was so shocked that I didn't even know what to respond. He said he'd give us a minute to decide what we wanted to do. At this point our tab was already over $200, we were definitely not there to get anything for free or give the server a hard time, but never in my 13 years of serving have I told a table that I couldn't redo their steak that didn't come out how they ordered it! In the end the server asked if I wanted more bread (great way to solve the issue, complimentary bread) There was no manager on duty and we ended up paying for the steak that we couldn't even eat in the end. We will never return here again and I hope that the owner puts more attention to the unprofessional and ridiculous staff members they have running their restaurant! read more

I used to like this place but now not do much. My husband and I went the other night. The hostess was smashed and rude. We were ignored. I kind of felt like it was because we were an interracial couple. So disappointing after being ignored for more than 15 minutes we left. We won't ever patronize them again and if you are not a Caucasian Marina Yuppie proceed with caution. read more

Food was delish but our waitress was terrible. My daughter and I ordered prime rib and French onion soup. She brought one of each. Owner brought desert menus and I told him we were still waiting for the other entree.. jeez, step it up folks. read more

Third visit was a bit disappointing for us. We have tried the scampi, steaks and chicken Marsala, all were great. This time had prime rib dinner instead of the other choices. My meat was served warm, and the baked potato was over cooked, so we left knowing if we return we will not have this again. Service was good, locals always hang out here. read more

It's rare I give a one star, because a restaurant's reputation rests partly on online customer reviews, but this was our experience: my husband and I used to come here all the time, but hadn't been in many years. It was Mother's Day and I wanted to treat my sister-in-law to an unusual out-of-the-way spot in S.F. I had such fond memories of this place, and yearned to reclaim the glow. All 6 of us were seated promptly in the gorgeous little room, little lamps and warm, convivial atmosphere. We ordered the camembert with roasted garlic bulb, french onion soup, and caesar salad as starters. The soup and salad were fine albeit not inspired, but the camembert was as good as it ever gets, I could've polished off the entire thing. Seriously. My brother, sister, niece, nephew, husband, all of us clawing for every last bit of that beautiful runny cheese. They knocked it out of the park and did this dish proud. We also had prime rib sliders--a shot of perfection, runny cheese, likely cheddar oozing over lovely beef topped with those little buns, soft and pillowy. We cut them into further halves and shared. This is the stuff that makes life worth living, so damn yummy we almost got another order, but resisted because we wanted to do justice to our entrees and make room for dessert. The entrees came: prime rib, pasta penne, scampi, filet mignon, rib-eye--all with baked potato and string beans. We stared at the plates and hoped desperately that they'd taste better than they looked. Each dish anemic and colorless, the life sucked out, dry and without a hint of juice. The prime rib a slab of overcooked meat, the rib eye a hunk of tasteless cow, the pasta swam in a watery version of canned tomato sauce, the filet mignon alarmingly grey, the scampi tasted as if all the salt in the ocean was in it--all of it with unevenly cooked, raw, hardened potatoes. The string beans were the only saving grace, though I wouldn't write home about that either. I picked up one bean almost as a consolation prize. All 6 of us sat there, neither one of us wanting to break the appalled silence. We were disbelieving that we drove to S.F. (from Burlingame) for this slop. I felt terrible that I was hosting this Mother's Day dinner. It felt surreal. I looked around the restaurant. The place was packed and people were digging into their meals, seemingly enjoying it.. WTF? How could this be? Did they get different food? And did a different chef cook our sliders and camembert? Did he suddenly go off duty? Another chef in the kitchen? Six of us staring listlessly at the lifeless crap on our plates...I had to speak up and break the spell of doom. I admitted out loud what we were all thinking: "This is inedible," and called over our server, who was gracious and sweet and understanding. I explained the situation and showed her the problems with the food, the raw potatoes, the darkly overcooked meat, almost cinder-like in consistency and color. She apologized, and brought over the bill, charging us for our drinks and appetizers. We left the place, still very hungry and wondering what to eat, but with no time, my nephew had to drive back to Sac for college. I love the ambience here, Dickensonian vibe, the service exceptional. The food years back used to be phenomenal, and the late night hours were a draw. But now...they need to get back on track, because something is very wrong: it's either entirely a watering hole where if you're drunk enough, you won't notice the raw mealy food or their main chef was on vacation for Mother's Day, and the food on that day does not accurately represent what the kitchen is capable of. I hope it's the latter and that we caught them on an off night. read more

I LOVE this place. Even pre-COVID I would order from here on Uber Eats almost weekly. I first heard about them from an Uber driver who'd lived in the city forever, then again from a local foodie friend. Finally took my parents for dinner, and now I recommend it to everyone. Since then, I've tried almost all of their entrees (both in restaurant and delivery), and have yet to find something I don't like. They're very reasonably priced for a steakhouse in SF, and the portions are perfectly sized. It's also weirdly one of the only places in the city that offers baked potatoes. Highly recommend ALL of their steak. read more

I have been on a search for great restaurants in the Marina. My boss hyped the Brazen Head, so of course I had to go. They have great fish and martini's. There is no sign on the outside so it's easy to pass up. They are opened late! Great service and lovely atmosphere! Remember they only take debit cards or cash! I'm torn on writing this review because one of my favorite things about Brazen Head is that it's a hidden treasure. Not that many people know that this San Francisco staple restaurant, from 1980, offers one of the very best burgers in the city. I am also a fan of their Manhattans. I love that Brazen doesn't have a fryer and rather than french fries you get mashed potatoes. I love the dark, lounge feel. I recommend a burger, medium-rare, with blue cheese and mushrooms. Just love Brazen Head! read more

Right the corner of our house, the Brazen Head is our favorite place to go on foggy cold week nights. Dim lights, vintage atmosphere, it seems you are in the Orient Express traveling in style and in time. Food is classic & great, cocktails mastered. Serve food very late. read more

Food was not great. We started with the steak tartar. It was only fairly good. I've had so much better. I ordered the prime rib. It was not a good cut although the sides were very good. My wife ordered the trout, It looked like a baby trout but it was well cooked and tasty. The desert was fantastic. It was a pudding with a carmel glaze on top. Our waitress was fantastic. We had about a 30 minute because the restaurant does not take reservations. Price was relatively high but again would have been ok with better food. I will probably not return. read more

Only wish I would've checked this place out sooner! Dark, small, and intimate, this place has a serious old school vibe. I love this place! You know exactly what you're getting stick to the prime rib and martinis and you can't go wrong!

Best Prime rib in town, Best god damn cocktails in San Francisco. As soon as you walk in, it felt like Joe Pesci was going to greet me at the bar - Very nice Mob style bar, low lights and dark wood make for a comfortable dining experience whispering secrets about garbage disposal and gambling with my fellow Capos. Bartender is definitely a wise guy in the most endearing way, To be honest I think he's the Padrino of this establishment, i'd kiss his ring and say 3 Hail Mary's after each drink. Wish they had mutzadell sticks to go with my Old Fashioned but oh well, guess i'll have to wait until they make me swim with the fishes to get that sort of luxury in that big Duomo in the sky. Service was impeccable, they got my Gabagool jokes and I wanted to give them all an affectionate noogie on the head because I felt like family here, and i'm talking about Corleone, NOT DiGiornos! I wouldn't be surprised if I saw Robert DeNiro in the back room talking to himself in the mirror while eating the baked head of garlic ( also a must-get) . This beats Rao's by a whole equator of calzones lined up end-to-end, and I bet if Il Papa dines here he would have to perform the last rites on me because if I died tomorrow, this would me the place for my final meal request. ANDIAMO! Brazen Head? More like Blazin' Head! read more

So good, every time. I always get the filet... But the burger is good, the appetizers are good, and the specials are actually specials and always rotating. This is a solid option if you're hungry and find that other restaurants are closed. BrazenHead is open later than most, if not all, restaurants in SF. The restaurant has no sign on the door, so you may miss it if you're not careful. It has an old school vibe with a dark wood interior. The food here is very good. If you live nearby, this is a great option for a late dinner. I would say that this isn't a destination spot so don't expect fine dining. read more

My boyfriend travels to San Francisco often, and he has always told me about his favorite restaurant that he goes to above all others when he's there (from East coast), and that is Brazen Head. He has always said it's the best steak and he loves the atmosphere. I finally got to go for my first time a year and a half ago. We sat at a table, and I was totally digging the orange glow and the old school vibe. Our food was fantastic. Well, I just went back for my second time ever this past weekend and had quite a different experience. The day had been long and tiring, so I had just started to get in a good mood again while we were getting ready and making our way across town. There was a wait, but there were two seats open at the bar so we went there and ordered two Old Fashions. They were ok, but as soon as I realized they had Fireball in them, it kinda turned me off, but we were having a great time. We decided we'd just eat at the bar bc we were starving. There were two bartenders - two older gentlemen (late 50s, early 60s), one with white hair and one with dark hair. The dark-haired bartender was very friendly, gave great service, took care of us. The white-haired guy almost ruined my whole night, bc it was like, everything else has gone wrong today, why not this? It started when my boyfriend said, "Excuse me, May we see some menus?" To which he responded in like a New York kinda way, "You talkin' to ME?" And just kept washing glasses and then walked away and never came back. After a few minutes, I got up and got us some menus from the host stand. A little while later another group of people had sat at the bar and he walked over to them and asked somewhat politely if they'd be eating and would like to see menus. He then got them menus. I'm like okkk, wtf. We looked over the menu and had decided what we wanted. Like, we both knew exactly what we wanted, down to the salad dressing and side items. The white hair guy came over and said, "do you know what you want?" I started my sentence with, "Well..." and was literally mouthing the word salad when he just like did a dismissive gesture and said something and walked away. I said loudly (the bar was very loud at this point - it was Saturday), "I know what I want!" and just looked at my boyfriend in shock, but he literally just ignored me. And just like before, after a while he went to that same other group and asked them if they were ready to order and the girl was like, "Ummmmmmmmmmmm...." but he just waited until she decided and took their order. I was livid at this point and was saying so to my boyfriend. Him and the other bartender kinda would post up and listen to what we were saying. I felt like I was being watched. I didn't understand why we were being treated like we had done something wrong and weren't welcome. Then the white hair guy said "The two on 10 are done," and I felt like he meant us. (At this point the dark hair guy had already taken our order and we had been sitting there for a while. I was still on my first drink and my boyfriend was in his second). But then our food arrived. We each had gotten the a salad and the filet. The two bartenders had been standing there watching and sort of talking to each other, and the dark hair guy said, "Well, we'll just watch them." Meanwhile an older lady was stumbling all over the place, then a few minutes later just totally gong showed, like swaying and not able to uncross her eyes, but they were fine. It just seemed very much like this guy had some weird thing against us personally, which I totally don't understand. On top of that, while the quality of the ingredients of my food were good, everything was like, not seasoned at all almost. To pay $160-something before the tip, I expect a lot more all-around. And the fact that it had seemed so perfect the first time and was so special to my boyfriend made it that much more of a disappointment. read more
