Amazing Service! Delicious and Fresh food. Their French Onion soup is out of this world! Small tucked away spot that's great for an intimate date. read more

After eating here over 20 times I suppose it's time I write a review. First of all, a big applause for them sticking to their customer base and STAYING OPEN LATE!!! All of the poser "late night" restaurants who used to be open late but now only on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (if even) should be slapped. And then slapped. Then some more slapping. The steaks are good but I definitely would not rate them 5 stars, maybe 3.5. The atmosphere is den-like and lends itself well to solo dining. The only real complaint I have is the "find the hostess" game. There have been several different ones but they all like to play this game once in a while. Maybe they are required to disappear as part of their contract? Anyway, thanks to The Brazen Head for staying a classic and saving me from yet another night of Thai noodles. read more

This place is pure dope for anyone who likes steak. Old-timey feel of the decor is a plus. Even though your dining neighbors are super close, you still feel a complete intimacy, almost as if you were in a bubble. Dimly lit and a bit boisterous, if seated near the bar, would be detractions anywhere else, yet here it works amazingly. Cozy, everyone is part of the family, atmosphere is how I would describe it. The food and drink. Generously poured scotch. Large bar menu. All +s! The food was amazing! French onion soup was top notch, and I had almost given up on eating filets, but this was a knockout. Full on. Top off w espresso, and send me stumbling into the street in a self-induced scotch/beef coma. Best for intimacy, without looking like you're trying to impress, but impress nonetheless! read more

Cozy spot! Cash or debit card only-The waitress stood over me while I was paying which was a little awkward so -1 star for that. The grilled halibut was perfectly cooked and it came with 2 scallops and yummy veggies. The rice was very good as well. French onion soup was very cheesy and hot on a cold night. The salmon was cooked to perfection as well. For desert the creme brulee!!! couldnt say no to that. A very cute hidden gem in the marina. Would def recommend. $63 total no alcohol read more

The Brazen Head is one of my favorite restaurants in SF. Kind of hard to spot if you don't know where it is. It's a fun little spot that hasn't succumbed to the hipster-yuppie vibe that is becoming San Francisco. Having cocktails at the bar is always fun, they have really cool bartenders. The service staff is always good too. We had a late dinner. I ordered the NY Pepper Steak, it was delicious. My friend had the Brazen Burger he said it was juicy and good. The Brazen Head is one of those cool throwback spots from back in the day, when San Francisco was a diverse world class city and not a homogenous hipster paradise. Visit the Brazen Head if you want to experience a little bit of the real SF. read more

This is our local spot and it's phenomenal every time. They always have fantastic specials and we always have a few items we can never pass up. The French onion soup, roasted garlic bulb with cambert cheese and the oysters are the must have appetizers, any ravioli specials are definitely a hit and the burger is amazing. Staff couldn't be better and always has a very warm, welcoming vibe. You can tell they care from the top down because, if you notice, the owner responds to every yelp review (good or bad). Would give them more than 5 stars if I could. Thank you for always providing a great experience and amazing food! read more

I'm giving one star because zero stars is not an option. I'm pretty sure the only reason why people go here is because all food tastes good while intoxicated. (The loud, angry and drunken brawls outside are also a nice touch.) I made the mistake of going here while sober and I've never eaten worse food. Sure, any terrible cut of meat is somewhat edible when smothered in a thick peppercorn sauce. Way to go! Also, the owner/host is quite unpleasant. While I understand that when you have a long waiting list it may be tempting to forgo customer service, it doesn't mean you should actually neglect common courtesy and manners. You're lucky to have such a nice waitstaff, which is the only redeeming quality of this place. read more

We needed somewhere to eat late on a Sunday night and we found this place open until 11pm. The waitress was great!! Food was meh. The Caesar salad was overdressed and very basic - romaine, salad dressing and a few stale croutons. The prime rib sliders were great but pricey - two for $12. The chicken marsala was okay. Would not recommend when there are so many other delicious options in San Fran. read more

10/10 steaks every time. Can't recommend it enough, easily my fav restaurant in the marina

Solid 4. No sign - I love it. You'd never know it was a restaurant walking by... Old school bartenders. I had grilled salmon and it was great. Atmosphere real cozy just like a neighborhood bar should be. Recommended by the maitre d' at Lyceum in Salem, MA (identical bar). read more

In March of 2022 I did a plumbing job for the Brazen Head restaurant. Wow. This place is amazing. The owner ,Phin, is extremely friendly and made it very easy for us to work with him. The restaurant fed us everyday we worked there and oh my goodness, that burger may honestly be the best burger I've had in my life. Im usually not a fan of seafood but the clam chowder was so good that I ate two bowls of it. The cooks Rene and Ismael really know what their doing and if you have a chance to talk to them you definitely should. I havent gotten the chance to have dinner at the Brazen head yet but I can guarantee that next paycheck I will be paying them a visit, they have earned themselves a customer for life. read more

This charming little place is pretty cool. Very intimate and cozy. The staff was very friendly and the prices are good. We started with the roasted garlic bulb, very tasty and different. I had the fillet, it was good, but not really special. B-friend had the halibut, he said it was good. Wine selection is kind of small, but the prices are good. We had a 2001 opus one for $160, not bad. The one thing that kind of sucks, is the process of paying the bill with your ATM card. A bit awkward. Wish they could just take CC. Oh well, it was still a nice evening. read more

I went to The Brazen Head for dinner with a group of co-workers largely because there was nothing else open (it was 11pm). Dimly lit, close quarters, and very pub-y in its feel, it was a nice place to settle in for a late dinner. The service was prompt and friendly and the menu featured a nice, but unexciting array of upscale pub food--namely steaks, pasta, chicken and fish. Over a few bottles of wine and some sparkling water, we waited for our meal to come, which arrived promptly. The food was good, but really uninspiring and obviously helped along by every chef's best friend, a huge dollop of butter to each part of the meal. I had the salmon, which was cooked nicely and served with a side of cooked vegetables. The steaks and pasta that came to the table looked similar to my dish, rather unexciting but tasty food. The meal would have been great for about 75% of what it cost, but as it was, it was a bit pricey. For dessert we had chocolate mouse, which was very chocolate-y but pretty think, not light at all. Overall, the meal was decent but in no way memorable or unique, just standard fancy pub fare. Prices were a little high for what it was, but considering the fact they were serving food at the hour we came there, I guess it could be justified. One final note, bring cash or a debit/ATM card since they don't take credit.! read more

I often forget about The Brazen Head but it really is a neighborhood gem. It's a tad on the inconspicuous side so I tend to overlook it when I'm venturing out for a fun evening. I came here last Thursday for a couple cocktails and I was reminded about what a fun little scene it has. I didn't eat but the food smelled amazing. This woman was eating a giant hamburger with grilled onions on it and at one point I had to talk myself out of swiping it off her plate. The dialogue went something like this: Hungry Side of Brain: "Oh, my. That smells FANTASTIC. I wonder if she would notice if I just...took...one...bite...." Reasonable Side of Brain: "No, Julia, stealing and devouring other peoples food is not appropriate and is also unsanitary. Order your own if you're so hungry." Hungry Side of Brain: "I'm broke, though. She wouldn't even notice. Look! She's going to the bathroom now." Reasonable Side of Brain: "You are a fat, crazy bitch. Get a life and some tact." Hungry Side of Brain: "::sigh:: Fine." read more

I've been wanting to come to the brazen head since i saw a billboard sign advertising it over 4 years ago. Any place that serves dinner until 1am is a fan of a nocturnal one like me. Finally got to it this past Sunday as i needed dinner after midnight as usual. It was sooo worth the wait. I love that it's like a secret hidden gem with no sign. When we got there I was a little scared that it might not be open but it's just that inconspicuous. This place is quaint and cozy with soft lighting and a friendly staff. If it wasn't for the totally wasted table with the one loud mouth who can't say one sentence without a slew of profanities it would have been a more mellow experience. I mean the food isn't the five star restaurant quality but it's good enough. I think they underestimate how good their food really is though because they tend to over dress it with sauces that aren't needed. I like when I can taste the seasoning/sauces but not when their drowning in it. ...But, I would still definitely come here again!! See ya soon Brazen Head! read more

While sitting at the bar at the Brazen Head, waiting for our table, we really got to liking this place. Know that the wait will be long even if it doesn't seem like too many people are in front of you. It's the kind of place where people don't leave their tables. The bartenders, though, were incredibly cool about it, giving us 2 rounds on the house because of the extended wait. While we sat their a couple of rapscallions walked in for a drink, and let loose one of the funniest things I've heard in a long time: Bartender: "Whad'll it be?" Scoundrel: "I'll take a Tokyo Tea." Bartender: "What's in the that?" Scoundrel: "It's kinda like an Adios." I just about shat myself. When we finally got seated we really enjoyed the burgers we had. But no fries? What's up with that? read more

I always have a wonderful time here. My go to is the Roasted Garlic Bulb Appetizer and the Penne alla Norma with no cheese! My handsome date always tries to order something different every time we visit Brazen Head. We have been here probably over 5 times already. They have a really nice bar with a great wine, beer, and sparkling wine selection. The mixed drinks are always a hit. If there is a wait for a table, you can have a seat at the bar. The service is really friendly, fast, and attentive. I highly recommend taking Uber because parking can be difficult. read more

Brazen Head - Raspberry Sorbet - Steakhouses Near Me - San Francisco, California

Keep Brazen Head on the down low... it's not a speakeasy if everyone writes about it! Seriously though, Brazen Head is a killer spot for those in the know. The food is delicious and the bar is a cozy little spot when you want to escape the Marina scene and MySpace crowd! The White Russian is the perfect night cap before heading home! read more

It took me forever to rate this place, because, as an old speakeasy, it should remain a secret between only the most awesome people. Also, I felt like a jerk reviewing everything as being "5 star". It's starting to sound like I LOVE EVERYTHING, so my next review will probably be someplace I hate. Stay tuned! Anyway, I love this place because, like Tadich, it's old school San Francisco. The vibe here is amazing; from the photos on the walls to the original bathrooms (narrow as hell, but I love how they haven't changed them). The only thing I DON'T like about the decor is the step I constantly trip over when I'm being seated. And that's not enough to remove a star - just be forewarned. Otherwise you'll end up face down in someone's carpaccio, and apparently that's frowned upon. Go figure? At first I always ordered the pepper steak, well done, because it was "bigger" and "pink meat" grossed me out. After some convincing from the staff, now I'm all filet, medium rare. The Brazen Head definitely cultivates a craving for red meat, proves that "cooked to a crisp" isn't always better, and brings out amazing flavors in everything I've tried. Highly recommended (other than the carpaccio) are the chilled oysters, spinach salad, the filet and the salmon. The strip pepper steak, medium well, is great for the first timer, but trust me when I tell you that a rare filet is in your near future. Oh - and if you're going to eat here, just request their finest merlot and trust that it will be AMAZING. read more

Love this place. Its very low key - not even a sign on the outside of the building, just the address. We usually go to the bar and have a good time with bartenders Mike and Eric. The dirty martinis are the best. The food is good too. The seating area is dark and uncomfortable but the food average. The French Onion soup is the best thing I've ordered there. The pepper steak is good too. If I was to make a suggestion it would be the French Onion. Its classic onion broth, with sweet onion, bread on top, with melted cheese, and served with french bread for dipping. If its your first time or meeting a date, sit at the bar and kick the can with Mike and Eric. They are good guys. read more

Well aren't you a cozy, quaint little place :) Nestled in the heart of Cow Hollow this place is a gem waiting to be found. Their steaks are richly seasoned and marinated. Their filets are cooked to the exact, perfect temperature you requested. The shrimp is jumbo and jolly, great way to start out the meal. I had to tear myself away from the garlic bread so I wouldn't fill up before the main attraction. I love love the ambiance: very dark, cozy and comfy. Perfect date spot . I like getting away from the SF "scene" type restaurants and going somewhere solely for food and comfort. read more

The Brazen Head is a classic San Francisco restaurant which echos days when restaurants like "Henry Africa's", "Lord Jims" & "Johnny Love's" reigned supreme. They have the "BEST" burger in town and arguably the best 'peppered steak' as well. I am personally partial to the salmon and veal picatta dishes myself. When I was eating pork chops they ranked a close second to that place down on the Embarcadero. Anyway, go say 'Hello' to Mike or Eddie for me. Oh, Eddie may be over at his other restaurant Liver Pool Lil's...off Lyon Street. Enjoy!! read more

I never really felt the hype about this place. It's pretty basic fare, not bad, not great. However, I had the best meal I've ever had at Brazen Head a couple nights ago, and I'm convinced that as long as you stick with ordering the surf and turf special, you'll be happy. Also, their oysters on the half shell are a nice treat as well, and they'll make a mignonette for you if you ask. Other than that, I feel like the menu is uninspired and the bathroom is kinda stinky. Open till 1 am though- always great for me! read more

This restaurant is what I hear and appears to be a 'local gem' where lots of the locals dine at. Upon entrance, this actually charming place, is dimly-lit with a tucked away ambience. We chose to dine here merely because the kitchen operates until 1:00am!...can't complain there. Menu looked decent, however having eaten there twice during my visit, my conclusion is the food is just mediocre. Bleh. Not terrible, but not awesome. I had the Salmon, Tomato Soup, and the Crab Cakes. Nothing was spectacular. What was disappointing were the Crab Cake appetizers. I expected San Francisco, being by the ocean, to have wonderful seafood, but these suckers just tasted like frozen-shipped crab meat from some random place. The Salmon was not bad...just needed more flavor. The tomato soup was just a poor rendition of a wanna-be tomato basil, which I've had much better in the South. They're lucky this place is open late--otherwise people would choose elsewhere to spend there dollars. Oh, and they only take cash and debit---for a place that's been open over 20 years, I would say they should keep up with the times. read more

I visited this little spot after reading Yelp reviews. What a great move. I live in the Haight, and getting there is a pain so we actually reserved a Zip Car for the occasion. It was worth the car. The wine list isn't long, but the choices are so good and reasonably priced. I had the filet (perfect, cooked the way I asked - rare) and she had the Ahi Tuna special. Also perfect. We shared the crab cakes (good) and the Ceasar (also good) and a bottle of Geyser Peak Reserve ('02). She loved her gelato, I wish I had enough room for my creme brulee, which was more a pudding consistency than the usual custard - unusual in my experience, but very good. We can't wait to return, we loved the ambiance and the service was impeccable and honest. When I asked about a special on the menu that evening, the waitress steered me towards the filet which was the same price saying "Not that tonight". Refreshing. And the late dining hours!? Too good to be true, but we left at midnight, so I suppose it is. read more

This is as close to a 1920's-style speakeasy as you're going to find in San Francisco. Viewed from the outside, stealthy and low-profile, lacking any signage or real distinguishing features except for a couple of strands of white lights, its difficult to detect that there's even a restaurant here. Open the door and peek inside where you'll discover a dark and romantic retreat that just oozes with sultry ambiance. The food is quite good too; great drinks, thick juicy burgers and New York steaks in a swank setting. Attentive staff complete a very pleasant experience. read more

Went here with another couple with the expectation of upscale bar food. I would classify it more as American than bar food. If it was bar food I would get french fries instead of mashed potatoes with my hamburger right? It's a cozy environment and staff was friendly all the way around. The no credit card thing is odd considering they take debit card. I agree that it is a minor mood breaker, but at least it comes at the very end of the experience so I didn't consider it a big deal. The food was good to very good. I've had better burgers, but the penne pasta with sausage was very tasty as was the fish and the crab cakes. All four of us had a good time and thoroughly enjoyed the Brazen Head. read more

There are few things in life better than a ribeye steak, a friendly bartender and a relatively priced meal. Jimmy the bartender made sure we were well taken care of upon our recent visit here. The restaurant is so quaint and small it really feels like a neighborhood hang out. The ambiance here makes it so much more intimate. That along with some friendly chatter from Jimmy bumps this place to the top of my list for go to steakhouses. Let me try to explain: Bob's off of California is a steakhouse that cannot be compared to here. Brazen and Bob's both offer steak but the places where they offer it are completely different. The crowd here seems more laid back and your wallet will truly appreciate you coming out of Brazen. Bob's indeed offers excellent food and service. The best way to put it is Bob's feels like it is going through the motions in providing excellent service making sure it's all done by the book. Brazen Head feels like you're getting that and has the making to feel like you're family now so come back again. Plus, what other place like this is open past midnight? Jimmy at the bar is excellent. If you're lucky enough to strike a conversation with him, you will find the place feels like home too. read more

Came here for a dinner with my parents. What a fantastic place. Truly feels like you are walking into a different decade. Very old school feel. We grabbed a drink at the bar while waiting for our table. I usually prefer gin martinis but their shaken vodka martini was very good. Escargot was delicious. But the trout was absolutely amazing. Very well seasoned, crispy skin, and boneless. Truly incredible. Duck fat potatoes needed a little salt but no big deal they have a salt shaker on the table. Just a classic joint, perfect for SF. Will definably be back for the old school feel. read more

The best place in the whole world. The owner is a delight. The employees are wonderful. Very friendly atmosphere that makes you not want to leave. The food is amazing. I love their soups. They always switch up the menu which is great, but the favorites are always there. Some of the best stake I have ever had, I especially love the petit filet. Drinks are another thing. PERFECT. Stiff tasty and wonderful. I have never in my life found a bar with better bartenders. They make the most perfect drinks. The place itself is charming and a perfect restaurant to bring an out of towner. Most of all, the people that own and run it are very professional, extremely nice and a pleasure to be around. My only complaint is I never have time to find new bars and restaurants because I always want to come here. read more

Finally a satisfying burger! And i second the stiff martini comment. Charming small little pub/restaurant somewhat hidden from the typical Marina go-to spots. Might upgrade to five stars after another visit. Like: -Small and cozy -Great decor -Friendly staff (for the most part) -Strong drinks -Great burger -Local spot for me Don't Like: -Some staff is just not on top of it. A table next to us was leaving and we said two more might be joining, the waitress said that it was not possible to move to a larger table. The table set open the rest of the night along with 3-4 other tables. -A bit on the $$$ side read more

Have you ever been in a small town, dragged into what the townies claim to be a "steak house," then become pleasantly surprised once the meal is over? I think that's how The Brazen Head tastes. Unfortunately, we're in one of the top restaurant cities in the country, so perhaps that isn't saying much. Don't get me wrong -- overall, I enjoyed my experience at this little spot (hence, the three-star rating). The dimly-lit, old-school ambiance is quite charming and its small size gives it the homey-ness that suburban transplants like me tend to enjoy. But at the end of the day, when I order a steak, I want a badass steak. Mine was just okay. I got the Brazen Head "specialty," a NY strip pepper steak. The meat was solid, but was a bit too heavy on the sauce. The mashed potatoes were well-above average. Lastly, my drinks were mega-stiff -- so that's a surefire half-point right there. Watch out: they take debit cards, but not credit. The Brazen Head was by no means a "bad" meal...I'm just not dying to return anytime soon. read more

The Brazen Head is one of Cow Hollow's hidden gems. While some may complain that its off the beaten path and lacking signage, its obvious The Brazen Head serves quality food with good service since it keeps busy without really needing to market itself. It's a small restaurant with limited seating and unfortunately you can't make reservations; just be sure to get there a little earlier on busier nights or put your name in and grab a drink at the bar. The food is your traditional meat and potatoes with a few seafood dishes to help please everyone. I've eaten here quite a few times and have always had a good meal with the service to match. I recommend the New York Strip Pepper Steak, its one of the better steaks on the menu. As for the price, its reasonable given the food and other restaurants in the area. And don't worry, they take debit. Give it a shot - it gets four stars for being one of the more consistent restaurants in the area. That and it serves its full menu up until 1am. read more

Service was decent! Food was horrible. The NY strip comes covered in sauce - who does that??? The crab cakes taste like the value brand of Gorton's fish sticks, if cooked 50 degrees too high for 5 minutes too long. My wine actually tasted like dirty water (seriously)! Oh, and the clam chowder was less flavorful than Campbell's. The bread pudding was edible but a bit dense, though the tablespoon (really) of ice cream served with it was tasty. This place must be getting high reviews as a bar, because it is seriously lacking as a steakhouse. read more

Love that this place has amazing food and even is open late for those getting off work and industry hours. The place can just be super loud and we had to leave early because a table next to us was so drunk and loud that you could tell the server didn't wanna serve them because he never really came back to his section to check in and we would of drank more. I found this restaurant on yelp when I was looking for somewhere to eat after work. I read some of the reviews about how it's kind of hidden, so I made sure I knew the exact address and set out on my way! It helps a lot to have the street numbers, because like the reviews said, there is no signage. We entered and were seated promptly. This was a Saturday evening. It's a dark cozy seating area. The other families seemed very jolly and everyone was enjoying their nice selection of wines. The bar had some guests, but they weren't too loud or anything. We tried escargot which was in butter(so good!) It was also nice and tender! Not too tough like previous yelpers said. I had the Veal Picatta, which was delicious. It was tender and had a light lemon caper sauce. My boyfriend had the Filet Mignon which he loved! Like the other reviews say, they do not take credit cards! I would go to this restaurant again! And recommend it to my friends & family. It has a family feel that makes me feel comfortable. read more
