Don't be fooled by the average rating. This is an excellent place to taste a delicious French sea foods near Champs-Elysees. On our way to the French Rivera, we stopped by at this restaurant recommended by the hotel concierge staff & loved it. It was such an elegant place in a classic pre WWII setting with an efficient service, variety of wine selections, delicious foods at a reasonable cost. We had two appetizers ( including the local caviars with glasses of champagne , main dishes , see the pictures, with a half a bottle of Sancerre wine including the service fee under 200 euros for two! Food is very unpredictable. It can be excellent but also distasteful. Highly recommend seafood, better meat options in other restaurants like "gourmet des Ternes". The Oysters are wonderful, souflet is as well (order at the beginning of the meal). Service as well unpredictable, could be personal but you could also end up having to ask 3 times for the menu. Yelp specifically instructs us to consider more than the food and this is a good reminder to me. The food here was great but no revolution: French comfort food I call it. You will pay for the privilege but this is a full service and spectacular brasserie that will meet anyone's needs. I can't guarantee every little thing will be perfect (the bread they served had to have been more than a few hours old for example) but to call this place less than five stars would throw the universe into turmoil. read more

Recommended by a new acquaintance and glad for it. This was our first night in Paris and we were in the area and walking back toward the Champs Elysees. We sat outside and enjoyed the people watching. Our server was very busy but maintained a reasonable amount of contact with us. We shared an enormous (600g) piece of sole cooked in butter and served with lemon. Rice pilaf accompanied the dish. The sole was fresh, delicate and delicious. Other diners around us were enjoying shellfish (oysters, lobster, etc.) and beef (large tenderloins cooked quite rare). We weren't interested in such a heavy meal and we got exactly what we wanted. This has been a Paris staple since before WW2. (Because of its Franco-German name, it was said to have been a favorite of the Nazis when they occupied Paris). The food is classic French, with their escargot and soupe des poisson being exceptional starters. I happen to believe that their steak tartare is amongst the best in this city.. and that is saying something. If you have space, you must have their chocolate profiteroles. read more

Typical high-end brasserie other examples of which in my opinion include Le Flandrin in the 16th or Le Congres in Porte Maillot. Excellent selection of fruits de mer (cold, fresh shellfish), the foie gras was good but not exceptional, the sole meuniere was good but not exceptional, the steak frites was great as was the salmon pave. Overall, I'd say this place is a solid high-end brasserie. If you don't like traditional brasseries that's another issue. But if you like them and are in the neighborhood (Place de Ternes), it's a great option. Food-wise, I'd give Le Flandrin or Le Congres the advantage, but this place is good enough. Note that it was quite frustrating that they didn't seem to list a full menu online as the actual menu is far deeper than the one I could find online in advance. read more

Being the first Place We ate in France, After a long journey from Avignon, and a recommendation from our concierge, we walked to this great looking corner local Brasserie. Upon first impressions, the Inside looked as nice as the outside. Seating was professional, the menus given and our orders takin in a prompt manner. The young gentlemen waiter is my favorite for service, professionalism, and attitude. Then came the older waiter, who took over (unfortunately). When He took forever, delivered our food improperly, and was really not a help in the slightest, to him his job was a bother. for us, it ruined the atmosphere. He also served me the more expensive of a wine cuvee, from a producer I had ordered properly. In all essence, and old wine scam. 2 wines from the same producer, one being less $$ than the other. I was tired, and did not look close enough, the bottle was twice the price when the bill came. Oh well, Thanks to this waiter, I will be less trusting of french waiters now. Thanks. The Seafood was good, and they bring out a wonderful little aperitif when you sit down to order. Very nice. Parisian brasseries have lost most of their charms. Nowadays most of them outsource all of their deserts; Parisian Brasserie's food has become fad and pretty unexciting over the years. As fresh, genuine and local produces has become such a luxury trend in France, most brasseries take shortcuts as they are profit driven and good cash machines. La Lorraine however has its touch, and I wouldn't apply the same rude judgment. Indeed it's pretty good as it has almost always been. Okay, first of all this review is only relevant to the dessert. We never ate dinner here but we did come here for dessert one night and were not disappointed. We made it clear that we were there just for dessert but they still loaded us up with free bread which I felt obligated to try. As it is just about everywhere in Paris, the bread was quite good, but that wasn't what we were there for. I got a seasonal raspberry based dessert and my wife got the creme brulet. It's a typical trap you might get into on the first few days in Paris. Typical touristy spot where they simply don't care whether you are coming back or not. Paris gets 50mm tourists a year and with a location that this restaurant has they will get you or a next guy that just arrived and have to eat at out normal hours which is whenever we want. If you are looking for a brasserie with buzz, go to Brasserie Lorraine. Our hotel concierge had recommended we try some of the more modern, quiet restaurants down the streets off of Champs Elysee, but when we got there, they were just too quiet. We got back onto the wider streets and ran into La Lorraine which occupies an entire corner. Their set menu is fantastic--the menu descriptions are as clear as they can get. The souffle with rum to die for. If you seek a Mad Men 1950's art deco feel, give Lorraine a go. Don't be fazed by the servers who take your order and disappear. They will be back to check-up on you juggling three plates and bottles of wine. read more
