Watch the price changes they don't tell you.... First time here, never really notice this place until they put the tables outside. Very pleasant server and she took care of us right away. We order "Lomo de Skirt Steak ($18.95)" and "Entraña Y dos Acompañantes ($22.95)". My wife also order an egg over side easy for her food and 2 coronas. The food took 15 mins which was not bad at all. When the food arrived they had forgotten her egg, which we reminded her about and she said it be right out. That took a few mins for them to make it I suppose. Her food the Lomo de Skirt Steak didn't have much meat but more of the fat content of the steak. My plate (Entraña) was good over all but a bit small from what I'm used too. Never the less the food was decent but the waitress didn't check up on us and I couldn't order another corona. Once we finished we order the bill and they had changed the prices from the menú! I asked to see the menú and photograph the receipt with the menú to write a review. The manager came out and explain they had to adjust the prices because of Covid19, which is understanding but not to raising prices without stating it in the menú or letting you know. He then brought a paper menú and argue they forgot to give out the new menú with updated prices. "Entraña Y dos Acompañantes ($22.95) to $31.95" "Lomo de Skirt Steak ($18.95) to $24.95" The manager ended correcting the prices but also change the prices of the drinks (2 coronas) from $7.98 to $9.98, which at this point I just wanted to leave. He tried to explain his Steak was the best around not even Manhattan serve Steak that good. I guess his never been to Noches de Colombia, which has better steak and better serves. This will be the first and last time we will be eating here. Not to mention we walked by 30 mins later and they were still giving out the outdated menu with prices. The best part of the meal was the Sangria although it cost $15 a glass. The food did not compare with Pio Pio in Jackson Heights. The chicken had a smoked taste to it. I was a little hesitant to order from a Peruvian place I hadn't been to before for easter dinner, but it was the only Peruvian place open (and delivering) on this particular Sunday! We ordered the family combo meal with the whole chicken, arroz chaufa, tostones, salchipapas, along with a whole tub of green sauce, pescado a lo macho, empanadas, and another side of arroz chaufa. Though they did get a couple elements of our takeout order wrong - I quite literally could not complain. This place beats all the other Peruvian places in the neighbourhood, and I fully intend to order more tubs of their green sauce (which is mind blowing) and their aji yellow sauce, which is flavourful with not as much heat as the green sauce. The chicken in the combo meal literally fell off the bone and went so well with the yellow and green sauces, the pescado a lo macho, which I may add is a difficult dish to keep fresh Nd well cooked when doing takeout or delivery, tasted like it came fresh out of the kitchen, despite the ride from the restaurant to my house! ENTREES ARE NOT WORTH IT My previous experience here was great. This time, it was not. LOMO SALTADO $21 - NO BEEF - If you're going to charge $20+ (with tax) for an entree... it better be an entree. Something filling. Something big. Something that resembles... an ENTREE! This dish was ok, but the amount of protein was crazy small - there were less than 6 or 7 strips of beef in my order (takeout). They also try to cleverly mask this by chopping up large onions and HUGE TOMATO CHUNKS to trick you. Real places that make lomo saltado don't do that (and I've had tons). Also- barely any sauce (the best part of any lomo saltado is the sauce adios mios). This dish here is not justified by this price tag - not even close. BAD QUALITY MEAT They also market the extra price because of "Prime Sirloin" - um... when is prime sirloin supposed to taste extremely sinewy and unbearable to chew?? Either you're getting gypped by your butcher or you're lying. Sadly, I can't recommend the entrees from this place. Thank goodness the steak and tostones were delicious . That's the 3 stars. Service was crazy. We sat down almost 10 minutes before we had to call the attention of the staff who were walking around us checking on the two other tables who already were drinking and eating. I spoke English. She spoke Spanish to me. But I overheard her later speaking English to someone else. My friend is Latina and so spoke Spanish ( I thought it was just a language thing) but she kept overtalking her when she asked about the different dishes. After ordering, we asked to keep one menu so we keep perusing it while we waited but kept getting asked for the menu like every few minutes. And no the restaurant was not packed. We got more attention to get the menu than we did regarding our order or if we needed anything else. Saving grace, the steak was delicious! The food was good and so was their Maracuya. Unfortunately we felt a weird vibe and couldn't pinpoint it. I am not the kind of diner who is obnoxious or rude. And regardless of seeing other diners getting a level of attention and more comfortable exchanges in conversation. As someone who dines out for the food, atmosphere, and good vibes this was a disappointment. Maybe ya'll will have better service. This is the second time I came to this restaurant for a family celebration. I came back because the Rotisserie chicken was amazing. When we arrived we were told that they had run out of chicken. The restaurant had only 4 tables in use but we waited over 10 minutes to have or drink order taken and it was another 15 minutes until our drinks were served. We had placed our orders for food and drinks together, since we had waited so long, and the food then arrived one dish at a time to the table with await in between each dish. This is our second time here. The first time was just looking for some Spanish food but this second time was to prove that the food was that good. We come from Queens because as a Peruvian and an American/Salvadorian who has been to Peru the food is damn close to being back in Peru. Not impressed . The girls in the front were very rude ...only about 16 years old . I told them my order more than once and it was still wrong overall . They didn't even really know what was on their menu either. I also paid over $20 for a steak meal to get the smallest piece of steak that I've ever seen. The food is decent, but not amazing . Needless to say I've had Peruvian food before and this food didn't overly impress me. I paid over $40 for two meals and they were incredibly tiny and not correct. I also waited over an hour for takeout when I was told it would only be 15-20 minuets. They automatically applied 20% tip to your bill even though it's less than 5 people. In this case, it was me and my girl (2 people) and they still automatically applied 20% gratuity without our consent. I asked the waiter about this and he said they do this to all customers no matter of head count. This is unfair practices and I'm starting to see lots of other restaurants do this. I don't mean to sound like I don't tip, I always tip According to type of restaurant and service and give their fair percentage whether it's 15% or 20% but I don't appreciate when they force upon you and charge you max 20% for less than a party of 5. I believe this type of practices is illegal and needs to be put in check. I will not be returning to this establishment again. The receipt also doesn't display any number of people dining however you can always prove headcount by the amount you paid and dishes order. Had the skirt steak, was maybe 6oz of meat for $40.00, drinks were watered down liquor and the tap beer is terrible because they don't know that they have to clean the taps on a regular basis. Service itself was terrible.. The only thing positive about the place was the decor and the dJ. They have no idea or focus on what's important when running a restaurant. The Bill was very expensive for the terrible quality. Will never go back there again. Candelabra is way better for your money and also Sobre Colombia on Hempstead typke. You can not compare the quality of the food and the service. Also they decided to add an automatic gratuity of 20% on top of there terrible service. I wanted to give this place a shot since I love Brazilian food. I ordered the lunch special which was 1/4th rotisserie chicken with rice and salad. The rice was flavorful with lime and the chicken tasted amazing. They included sauces with it which were nice to try. However I wasn't a fan of the soup but I am not a soup person at all. I was disappointed that they wouldn't let me trade the iced tea for a different drink, it was just ok. I wish I could have traded in the iced tea or soup for something else since I just threw them out. Wont be ordering the lunch special again just because of that. read more
