Every time I'm in Bellingham, I stop by Brandywine. The restaurant prides itself on using high quality locally sourced ingredients which really shows in their fantastic food. Today I ordered the Mediterranean sandwich. The bread was well baked and fluffy, and the eggplant, mozzarella, tomato, aioli, and balsamic reduction all blended amazingly to make each bite perfection. I got the Tom Kha (Thai Soup) on the side, and the coconut milk flavor really stood out to make a great soup. I've had multiple other sandwiches in the past, and just like my Mediterranean today, none of them have ever disappointed. Staff has always been friendly and helpful. You place an order at the counter, take a seat, and they'll bring your food to you when it's ready. Yes, you bus your own tables but I personally didn't mind one bit. Brandywine is a solid 3.5 stars. As some reviewers have noted, there are a few things about this place that is how they run with it. -You bus your own table. (They will bring you the food though) -You order from the front and pay for it like a fast food joint. -They will give you reasonable portion sizes, nothing heaping on your plate. -It is cooked to order, nothing in a service bin for a line cook to pull out and plate. That said, the 3B burger had some good ingredients used, as in the bacon, blue cheese, and arugula. The brioche bun is amazing The heart of the hamburger is the meat patty. It's thin and not juicy at all. Appears it's from a frozen factory processer. It's like building an Indy race car and then adding cheap junk tires. That part can make or break a burger. Sadly that is what landed them in the 3-star category. If they ever change their source for meat, they will have a winner of a burger, only till that happens. I hope they read this review, and take it to heart, and raise the meat quality. This place has a lot of potential. I'll check back with them in 6 months or so, and see if they have. Remember In-n-Out burger makes 3 things, shakes, fries, and burgers. Look at the rep. they have. Brandywine has better base level ingredients. read more

I have tried to like Brandywine but I haven't found anything that I love. I am not a fan of their salads. I don't care for the gluten free pasta in the macaroni and cheese, and they are over priced. Last night I tried it yet again and ordered the fish and chips. Nope, not a fan. The panko flake coating was too thick and crunchy. Not crispy, CRUNCHY. I dread every time someone chooses to eat here because as a pescatarian, I just don't care for the options available. I know a lot of people love eating here. Not me. read more

This place is ridiculous, First you have to go to the casher and order your drinks and food, then you have to go to the bar to retrieve the drinks and then go to your seat. The minimal staff are jokes, no personality and exude an air of pomposity without a smile. We had reservations for 15, and took the table on the top tier. There were no service except bringing our food to the table and they have the gall to request a mandatory 18% gratuity.. WTF The food was just average for a greasy spoon and bar food. All 15 people complained of the no service and how we all had to go downstairs to retrieve anything. Piss poor customer service. read more

I love Brandywine. Food is always great, every single time. They make the best salads with so many veggies, and the homemade basil vinaigrette is so good. Then you have to get a side of fries with their dipping sauce. Delish! I've recently had to go gluten free for health reasons and I pretty much had a meltdown about all the pasta I will be missing. Literally one of the best food experiences I've ever had. I got their Triple B Burger - beef patty, balsamic beets, bacon, arugula, blue cheese, and garlic aioli. Um. Wow. Juicy, flavorful, a good sturdy bun, and the fries on the side were incredible. Well, that's what I thought, and then I dipped them in their red pepper aioli - now that's truly incredible. My best friend and Bellingham tour guide got the BLT, which is the only thing she gets here. Again, super fresh, flavorful, and on really sturdy, crisp bread. (Can you tell I don't love soggy bread?) We got a winter ale and their lavender earl grey iced tea - both also incredible. tl;dr Incredible, farm fresh food. You don't want to miss out. read more

My friends and I were actually trying to hit up Aslan, but it was closing as we arrived and we ended up at Brandywine instead. What a happy accident! We were all really happy with our food and glad we stumbled upon a good place. This is one of the "order at the counter & we'll deliver your food" places, so if you want total table service, you won't find it here. I ordered the Mediterranean sandwich, which was a baguette with eggplant, mozzarella, tomato, aioli, and balsamic. It was really good, albeit hard to eat - not everything really fit inside the baguette. The eggplant was breaded and the balsamic was a nice touch, although I wish it was spread throughout the sandwich a bit more. I had fries on the side; you can order a special aioli of your choice for fifty cents but I'm old-fashioned and stuck with ketchup. One of my friends is vegan and she opted for the tofu banh mi. She said she really enjoyed it and even mentioned it again the next day. All in all, it was a really good meal - filling, too! read more

Sorry to give a 2-Star rating. We've tried this place twice & just can't get excited about it. The food both times was very lackluster, at best. The sandwich I had last time was dry, loaded with lettuce & very little else. It's a cute place, but could be cleaner; we had to search to find a table that had been cleaned since the last customer (it was not at all busy). Counter service, bus your table. I am giving this place 4 stars due to their excellent fries. Went here for lunch with a girlfriend of mine and was pleased that it wasn't packed. Food can take awhile when they are busy (upwards of 30 minutes). This is a self service establishment, you order at the counter, get a number, and food is run out to your table. Ordering is the only interaction that you have with the staff. They also ask that you bus your own table. I ordered the Texan, a pulled pork sandwich on baguette with bell peppers, cheese, and an odd tomato paste dressing. The meat was tender, but not dressed in BBQ, it was more like a nod to barbecue flavor. I really did not care for the tomato dressing, it overpowered the sandwich, but I liked everything else about it. The best part of the dish was the fries, freshly cooked and golden. I like my fries more on the well done side so this was a treat. read more

We've been eating here for years, since they first opened. Having kids I love that you can order at the counter and leave when you're done, without having to wait for a check. The food is definitely solid - they have great kids menu options (especially for a kid who can't eat gluten!) and some really great sandwiches. I'm not a huge fan of the latest menu change, there are a few things I definitely miss (used to offer all sandwiches on greens with a side. Now no side if you do the salad option??!) We've had a lot of cold fries recently, which they've handled, but frustrating. We usually end up eating here once a month or so. While solid, I'm never particularly jazzed about the food. It checks the boxes for my family though, so we'll probably keep coming back. read more

Not a great experience... We didn't have enough time to investigate this place before eating as we were seeing a comedy show in just under an hour from when we walked in the door. We got a bit lost (being from out of the country) and that created a time constraint. There is ample amounts of seating and a small awkward bar disconnected on the right side that had a staff member on their own laptop play world of war craft... My family and I all ordered the fish and chips thinking it would be faster if we all just ordered the same thing. Wrong. So so wrong. They give you a number and you sit at a table and wait for them to bring you your order. As soon as we sat down a giant party of at least 15-20 people came from the upstairs seating to order... glad we ordered right before that happened. After 20 minutes the food came which meant we had roughly 15 minutes to eat and 5 to walk to the nearby theatre. WOW... I wouldn't of fed that to my dog.... the "fish" looked just like 3 small chicken strips (over cooked in old brown oil) on top of over cooked fries. I'm sure the bill came to roughly $60 with tax and fountain pops. I was starving when we came in but I couldn't even eat more then 2 bites of it. There was 100% no flavour to what ever it is that I was eating, NO amount of ketchup was fixing that. We honestly didn't have time to complain due to the large crowd and our time constraint. The good: Above average quality food for a college town, nice friendly people, clean place and easy parking. The bad: They have really no clue on portion size for their sandwiches. Brandywine is a mix between a healthy and comfort food restaurant, who's interior will remind you of Old Town Brooklyn. I've liked the salads I've had there in the past, and enjoy the location proximity to downtown. They partner with Uisces for food delivery too, which is a huge perk. Nothing specific stood out above the rest on the salads, but I liked their tofu bahn mi quite a bit! Some dishes might lean a little pricier, but are worth the fresh ingredients. It must have been rough day for Katie H, the girl at the register. I'm offering this review based on her terrible service and down right hateful attitude. We hadn't even eaten yet and somehow already had a horrible taste in our mouth which I'm sure influenced what we thought of the food. My daughter and I are visiting from AZ and we offered to take our friends out to dinner to thank them for their hospitality. My daughter was so excited to "go to the restaurant with the notes in the wall again!" We had come on our last visit to see our friends. When we ordered our food everything got really ugly. I tried ordering the kids fish and chips and Katie H informed me "just so you know, we don't sell kids plates to adults.." in her snarkiest voice..so I thought. I thought ok fair enough, "how much more comes in the adult plate?" Because I wasn't actually very hungry. She informed me, with her pursed lips, rolling eyes, and shaking head, it was only one more fish stick and a few extra fries. I was like "wow! $7.50 more for 1 fish stick?!" And then proceeded to order the food...it's not everyday you find a gf fish and chips meal after all. Really my friend and I already wanted to walk out but if you have kids that want a certain experience you know how it is, we stayed. This exchange set into motion a severely ugly chain of events. As I talked my friend into staying and we ordered the rest of our food Katie continued to be rude, actually it was way beyond rude. It was downright mean and hateful. When we finished our order she threw my receipts at me to sign them stormed off to get a beer for someone else. I didn't receive my copy of the receipt so we stupidly stayed at the counter waiting and wondering if we were finished. Although there was a long line forming behind us, Katie didn't return so we figured it out and went to sit down. We are not unreasonable or blind, we could see that the restaurant was short handed and Katie was handling the front on her own. We watched as she stormed around the restaurant. Not in a way that says, "I'm in a hurry and need to provide service and get people their food while I do my chores", but sort of like a disgruntled teen whose parent just took prom night away. At one point she knocked the books off of one patron's table and almost his laptop in her angry motion of slamming his plate in front of him. Then the dreaded moment came when I need more sauces for my extra fish stick. Yikes! I went to ask and Katie gritted her teeth when my friend's daughter said something TO ME about how much the sauces cost I guess she and her mom usually don't pay extra. Through her gritted teeth Katie said "$1.50". This was all I could take. I am a life coach and I could see that Katie was having a rough night and somehow it was really easy to throw whatever it was that caused her such anger and resentment at me. I know it could not possibly have anything at all to do with me personally so I asked her, "hey, are you ok? Are you having a rough night?" She said no, then yes. When she owned her tough time I said, "I can see it and I realize you're angry at something but it's really not right to take it out on us in this way" while mirroring her body posture and gritted teeth and rolling eyes and rolling, clucking chicken head. Her response was "that's cute" and she stormed off to continue her tantrum. This was THE WORST customer service experience I've ever had anywhere and so I am calling it out. Katie I hope you address the source of your anger and hatred or at least get some training about how to manage it at work or use it to your benefit. On another note, The food was over cooked and the sauces tasted horrible, like way too much vinegar, but I am sure that was an energetic result of the experience and mood Katie was creating. Needless to say you have lost at least 4 formerly adoring customers tonight but I thank you for the great conversations we had with our kids afterwards. read more

My wife and I ate here yesterday evening for the first time. I ordered the Brandywine Burger...just a straight up hamburger with cheese and the fixings. My wife ordered the Portobello Melt. The Good: You order at a walkup counter so there is no waiting on a waiter to seat you and come take your order. My wife said her Portobello Melt was delicious and that Brandywine Kitchen was her new "go to restaurant" for a Portobello sandwich. Also, the French fries that came with her meal were quite tasty and fresh!! She said her meal was a strong 4 Star and that the sandwich needed a bit more Balsamic sauce to make it a 5 Star for her. She also said she would definitely get it again. The Bad: My hamburger wasn't as good as my wife's meal. While the bun and vegetables on the burger were top notch I was taken by surprise to see what looked like a pre-formed thin hamburger patty on my burger. The menu states that the Brandywine Burger is "all natural beef"? I guess what looks like a pre-formed patty can be all natural beef...but I was expecting something a little more substantial on a $13 hamburger. With the exception of the juice from the vegetables, my hamburger was not juicy because the thin hamburger patty was cooked very well done. I'd go back to the Brandywine Kitchen but I would steer clear of the hamburgers as there are many places around Bellingham to get a much better hamburger for around the same price. read more

Brandywine is great place! Lots of good options whether you are gluten free or vegan. They have a great happy hour, and also excellent champagne cocktails! Today I tried their tofu bahn mi, which had good flavor but was a bit over saturated by the slaw and the baguette had become a bit soggy. Dishes I would recommend included Mac and cheese, fish and chips, and the house salad with basil vinaigrette is great! Despite the times, the service was lovely and the outdoor space was great. They had hand sanitizers, masks, and social distance markers. I felt as safe as could be.
