My wife took her car here for a $20 coupon special oil change. They ended up talking her into a $225+ bill for, among other things, "a leaking battery" that started the car first time, every time, and a "brake adjustment" on a late model car with AUTOMATIC brake adjusters! We used to call people like this "Flagstaff mechanics" because they preyed on tourists on Interstate 40. The positive reviews are mainly for brakes and shocks. They may be good for that, but avoid them for oil changes if you are a woman. read more

Nice staff as mentioned in a prior review, but they have replaced the steering rack on my Silverado 5 times in the past 3 years!!!!! Yes, that is right, and after the one they recently put on 8/26/14 is leaking and loose. That means it is going in tomorrow. I just paid $252 in labor to put it on as it was outside of 6 months. Took my 7 year old car in for what I thought was brake problems. turned out to be suspension and steering issues and a $2400 estimate. I gave a deposit for the parts to be ordered. After tossing and turning all night I decided to trade the car in and get a new car. I went back the next day to cancel. I was afraid they wouldn't refund the charge. They understood and said no problem. I thought there might be a restocking fee but they said it wasn't necessary and gave me a complete refund. Very honest. I have no knowledge about cars or car parts etc. My car started to make that annoying "squeak" sound when I put my foot on the brakes. I went around the north valley to get some opinions and see what auto service center to go to. Brakes Plus was not only the most affordable, but the most friendly auto place I've been to. Let's face it.. we all need to take care of our car and choosing the right place is like choosing a doctor for your child. I felt very comfortable with the feedback they gave me regarding my brakes and all I needed was new pads and a brake flush. I was out of there in 2 hours. This was my first visit to Brakes Plus and they did NOT disappoint! The GM Russ was very personable and professional. I did not have an appointment and understood I was taking a chance at having to wait a while. Russ advised me they had several appointments and would get to my car the first chance they had. Once they got to my car, they not only took the time to show me what the issue with my car was but also provided an estimate and options before they started, very convenient! The prices are reasonable and competitive, coupons offered on Yelp are available and useful. I recommend this location but also recommend making an appointment if you can. Very unsatisfied. In March I took in my car for brakes because of a grinding noise. I ended up paying for brakes, struts and shocks and an oil change per EDDIE. I drove off the property with the grinding noise still present. I went back. A tech said it was rust. He 'smoothed the rotors' and the noise went away but not until his mechanic stripped the bolts on one wheel. Several hours later it was replaced. Then in May I moved to California. I noticed an oil leak the size of a dinner plate. I went to a local mechanic and he indicated the oil pan bolts had been stripped and that I will need a new pan at the tune of $500! I called Just Brakes to see if they would take responsibility for their mechanics error. They Refused! Saying it was out of warranty. It was his mechanics technique that caused the problem not the oil that was changed! I would not recommend this company. They have little integrity if any, and just push the hard sell on everything. I feel SO INCREDIBLY RIPPED OFF. I hate car troubles and the environment for unqualified personnel it breeds and the lack of managers to resolve and make things right! UGH!!! read more

Out of there in 45 minutes with an oil change and a recommendation for an air filter and a serpentine belt. He was honest about the work that needed to be done and worked with me on price. The shop did a great job and had all the work completed in under an hour. I wish I could write a better review! I followed the other yelp reviews and scheduled to have my rear brakes replaced. I called a number of different businesses prior to making this appointment to make sure they could install my specific brake pads that I would provide. Brakes Plus agreed they could do it, no problem. In person, they quoted me $140 to have the job done including turning the rotors. I showed up the next day to have the work done, and they said the quote did not include the turning the rotors. Now, it was going to be $180! Lovely.... They told me it would take 2 hours to complete. Two hours later, they called. I was hoping the job was done. Nope. They called to ask me some questions. I told them before making the appointment that I had just had my 120K service done at the dealership (where they would not perform the brake service with my provided brake pads), so I was wondering what they found. They told me my shocks were completely shot and they suggested I should get both the struts and shocks changed. Oh, and they told me that my steering wheel was off center, so I need an alignment as well. I told them (again) that I just had my vehicle serviced at the dealership, and they didn't find any problems. I would have thought the dealership would be the first to come up with these additional services. I told them I recently had an alignment done, and that I would do my shocks later. I referenced the dealer's comments from my recent service, and felt I was justified in my answer. i just wish i could trust a business with such great yelp reviews! I am so tired of them taking advantage of people! They could have earned my business. They could have easily told me the truth. They could have easily asked if I was interested in an alignment based on the mileage of my vehicle. They could have easily told me that they noticed the beginning of the end of one of my shocks. They could have easily told me that my shocks were fine now, but later (if I notice xxx), i should get them replaced at this store because.... Instead, they used fear to make an additional sale I didn't need. I wish I could trust this company with my car, but I just can't. Do not use this Brake Plus. Other ones may be fine but this one is not!!!! I went in to use a $49.95 coupon which when I got there they said ok and we will pull it in and get it going and look at it for you. They came out with this huge sheet saying all this needs to be done and I said I just want the pads done please and thanks. Ok that's what we will do. Then when all done your total is $90.63. I said when I came in I wanted the $49 special. Oh they don't make those brake pads for your car. On the sheet I have you at the higher price and I told you that the special doesn't cover your car. For one he NEVER told me I cant get the special with my car cause it's too new. BULLSHIT! So he just did the job and I had to pay like all he other scam artist shops! I don't usually write reviews but seriously take the time to read this one. Let me start with me saying I'd give them 0/5 stars if possible. These are some crooks let me tell you. Went to get my thermostat housing, radiator hose, water outlet, and heater hose replaced as well as an oil change and left the shop with CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. Of course I could not go back because it took them 7 hours to fix and was not done until after closing time. It was also Saturday so I had to wait until Monday to go back and take a day off of work.... which was annoying in itself. When they inspected it, they told me I needed my engine valve cover replaced and priced it at an alarming rate, so I decided to check out another place instead. With the quote they gave me I asked the new place what the cost would be there, they told me half the price of what Brakes Plus told me. When I came back, after they knew I went to another shop, they MAGICALLY lowered the price knowing it was way too expensive. Come to find out at the other shop that my engine valve cover DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED! The vacuum hard line had been cracked AFTER THEY WORKED ON IT THE DAY BEFORE. Keep in mind, the radiator hose runs right next to the vacuum hard line. So it's no coincidence that I go in with my check engine light having never been on and then leaving with it on and the engine idle running rough and whistling. Another place I went to said that they probably cracked it while replacing the radiator hose.... Keep in mind as well that they were about to charge me for something that did not need to be done and then probably fix what needed to be done after the engine light didn't shut off. These guys are AWFUL and CROOKS if I've ever seen one. I will be calling corporate and would like a refund for the damage they did to my vehicle and then acting like nothing ever happened. This was just pathetic business and I hope this makes them lose some service because they do not deserve it. Seriously, go to C n R Auto right across the street because you can get honest mechanics there who aren't there to raid your bank account. read more

Updated - I moved from one star to two stars since they redid the car and reimbursed me for the part of the difference. My teenage son brought the car in for the $99/axle brake job on the car. He didn't pay attention and came home with an invoice that was more than double for only the rear axles! I called in to complain and was told that it was too bad - he authorized the repairs. I posted a one star review on yelp and the shop called my son back to redo their brake job with the $99 brakes. When reviewing the invoice I also noticed an extra $22.50 charge for "Ratcheting Caliper Labor" was on the bill. I checked with a mechanic friend who said that this was a bogus charge. I talked to the person at the shop regarding this and he refuses to remove this from my bill. It is very frustrating because when I called originally for an estimate the person quoted me the $99 price and said that my car qualified for this pricing. I even contacted a different Brakes Plus store which informed me that there was no additional labor necessary on a 2010 Honda Accord. If anyone reading this can tell me what is accurate I would greatly appreciate it - I called the customer service phone number that is listed on their website and it is not correct??? On a side note, I would recommend using the Brakes Plus at 18415 N 35th Ave store because they even informed me about a $20 coupon they have on the website. This at least covered part of the bogus $22.50 ratcheting labor charge that I was not informed about. read more

Don't go here. They try to sell you stuff you don't need. I was told I needed to replace struts on my car due to the wear pattern. Funny thing is I just had my brand new tires put on. Less than 50 miles on them and I was just in there for an alignment. Avoid this place! read more

This is my first experience with this company and my first impression was that they were incredibly friendly, but that would lead to more bad feelings later. I went in to get new brake pads and get my rotors turned, and I had agreed to that service, but had to verify that that was what the owner of the car I was taking care of wanted. This was what was wanted so I called the company back and authorized the service. As I would find out later, I had unknowingly agreed to an extra thousand dollars worth of service that had never been discussed with me and I had never been given a quote for. I nearly had a heart attack, and that is no exaggeration. When they saw something was wrong, they immediately asked what happened and I explained, they did take steps to make it better, i.e. comping the labor on all of the service they had done. If I wanted to restore the car to the state it had been in when I brought it in, aside from the service I had actually authorized, they still expected me to pay labor. Eventually it was decided to keep the car in the state it is currently in, and so I ended the day out over $600 more than I had thought I would spend. Back to why the friendliness made things feel worse, it felt like I had been swindled, like they had tried to earn extra money off me because of my age. Russ doesn't care about your appointment if a cute blonde needs help. Today he asked me to explain why I was not pleased when he was clearly confused on how to serve customers who have booked appointments and shown up before a female he is trying to impress. When I was done explaining my frustration he said " I listed to you and now your going to listen to me". I am not sure where this company finds these guys but its embarrasing. Today he also made a joke (to another customer) about hiring handicapped employees I found highly offensive. There is a guy named John at the front desk who is honest and understands customer service. Everyone else is will brag about how long they have been doing this while treating you like an idiot and pocketing your cash. I used to use the location over in North Glendale and they were always very good. This location is terrible. They are worse than Pep boys...I just said that. read more

I'm writing this review so that others won't get "taken" as I was at this Brakes Plus location. The only reason I'm even giving 1 star is because they did finally refund my money, but only after I told them that I was filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and contacting Call 12 for Action to investigate them. The reason for my complaint was because they charged me for work that they did not do and a part that they did not use. I was told that only a Nissan part could be used on my vehicle and that it would involve having to solder it. In other words, what I was originally told would not cost much was going to end up costing quite a bit. The day after I picked up my car I showed a friend, that works at an auto parts store, what work had been done. He informed me that the part was not a Nissan part but was in fact a $4.00 part from O'Reilly's Auto Parts store right next door to this Brakes Plus location, and in fact, no soldering had been done. I returned to Brakes Plus to express my concern. The person behind the counter told me that he would have the manager, Rob, call me when he returned. No explanation was ever given to me as to how I was charged for work that had not been done and a part that had not been used. Rob did call and refunded my money after I said that I had called Call 12 for Action, but I have to wonder how many other people has this happened to? read more

I never write reviews anywhere however I felt compelled to write this one only because I had a really bad experience with this shop. I have use this shop before (1 time) for an aligment service, the service then was fair, got in and out and done. Months later (yesterday) I came back with my car with a coolant leak, I was really concern about what this leak could mean and took it to this shop. They were very nice folks at the counter, took my car in and lift it up and came back with diagnostic; "I needed a new radiator". I was told that the radiator was leaking from a corner of it. This made me uneasy because of the expense I was going to incurr, sure enough they came back with an $803 estimate. After debating myself with this news and calling my wife to discuss options they came back again saying they will do it for $668. I decided to leave for another opinion (next door) and they were unhappy I was leaving charging me $25.00. The next door business, called C&R Tires took my car, lift it up and invited me to look underneath, Break Plus did not offer me the same courtesy. C&R Tires (next door shop) showed me where the leak was coming from and that all was needed was to replace a nut plug. Long story short my car was fixed within 1 1/2 hours, no leak and best of all the work done out the door was under $100. I felt mistreated and scammed from Break Plus and the staff that day (morning of June 15, a Saturday). It has been a long time since something like this has ever happened to me in this market place where I have live for 15 + years. It is very unfourtunate to see this type of treatment from a business to its patrons. I hope my review serves for others to watch closely and always look for options or second suggestions. I also hope this business will review its operational process or their technicians expertise which to me is in question now and most likely will not return to this shop for any of their services. read more
