Negligent "repairs" led to immediate and grave danger! After years of using and trusting Brakes Plus, our recent visit will keep me from EVER returning. My wife's truck had the "brake" light showing on her dashboard. I scheduled service with Brakes Plus and she brought the truck in for a brake inspection/service. 48 minutes after dropoff, they contacted my wife and said that the right rear wheel had stripped bolts/nuts and informed her they would need to drill out and replace them. There would be an additional cost for the parts and labor just to get started with that project, to which she agreed. She then received a second call 3 hours later saying the front needed brake pads and rotors, but that the rear drum brakes looked good after inspection and that they cleaned them up well. Then 4 hours later, she received a call that the truck was completed and ready for pickup. As it was late in the day she drove it directly home, less than 1 mile.   The next day, we took the truck onto the freeway to go visit and take care of my elderly father across town. While driving at freeway speeds, the truck began bouncing up and down roughly at every small bump in the road. This was a significant difference in the way the vehicle drove after being at Brakes Plus. It was extremely noticeable to both my wife and I. We returned home and she called Brakes Plus to inform them the truck was not handling well or safely after the visit to their shop, indicating it felt like maybe the tires were unbalanced. John, the manager on duty that day, told her that's unlikely because they supposedly mark the tires to ensure they go back on in the correct order. He said that we were welcome to bring the truck back in to check their work, but that they don't even have a way to balance tires, so if the tires were indeed mixed up while mounting them back on, they wouldn't be able to do anything about it and would just send us to Discount Tire.   At this point, it felt incredibly unsafe to return to Brakes Plus for any additional work, so we contacted Discount Tire to get an emergency appointment to have them check and balance the tires. Speaking with Discount Tire employees, the description of the bouncing at freeway speeds was definitely indicative of unbalanced tires, which were perfectly balanced before service at Brakes Plus. We dropped the vehicle at Discount Tire and they were able to balance all but one tire. They confirmed that the three tires they were able to check were significantly unbalanced, which is why we were feeling the bouncing as we drove at freeway speeds. But here's the real issue...the fourth tire (right rear) could not be balanced because the tech informed us the nuts/bolts were stripped and they could not safely remove and balance the wheel/tire as the first bolt literally snapped off while trying to remove the nut. Unfortunately, Discount Tire does not have the capacity to drill out, remove, and replace bolts, so we had to pick the vehicle up and return home, scheduling an appointment with Dunn Tire to drill out and replace the bolts/nuts and balance the fourth tire, as referred by Discount Tire. Dunn Tire confirmed via photo proof that the bolts/nuts were never replaced on the right rear wheel, nor were the rear drums cleaned, both of which Brakes Plus charged us for and never did.   So...to recap the issues here...Brakes Plus lied about and charged us for services that were never performed. Not only did they never remove the right rear wheel/tire, indicated by the fact that the bolts/nuts were still stripped, this means they also could not have inspected or cleaned the right rear drum. The fact that they endangered my wife knowing the bolts/nuts were stripped on a wheel, charged her for fixing it, didn't actually touch it, then sent her on her merry way is wildly dangerous and purely negligent. At freeway speeds, this wheel could have snapped off, causing severe harm and even death.   There is no way I would EVER recommend Brakes Plus to anyone simply based on the fact that their negligence, whether intentional or unintentional, placed my wife in immediate and grave danger. read more

Went to brakes plus to have my power steering pump changed. They also notified me that my rack opinion was leaking again. I okay them to do the repair after getting my truck back noticed, I was still having problems with my steering, and my tires were still wearing unevenly. So I took it to tire shop to have my tires changed. They looked at the suspension and stated the ball joint was bad so they could not even attempt to do an alignment. So thanking to myself, if I just had my wrack opinion replaced prior a couple months ago, how were they able to actually align a vehicle with a bad ball joint? Never to find out, my shocks were never really connected.As both bolts on each shock were stripped out. As of 2 years prior had all my front end suspension replaced by them looking under my hood, found bolts missing for a part of my electrical system. A hose clamp missing off my intake. They declined ever removing it even though it had to be removed to get to the power steering pump. I looked under my hood due to losing my brakes, and that my shocks were no longer connected to my lower arm, which was replaced by them. After letting them know the assistant manager started coming up with excuses. And when I let him know I used to work for a dealership. He got real quiet and stated. He would have the general manager call me back which never received a phone call. I am very unhappy with the professionalism of the management staff. At this location and the mechanics, they cannot verify. Bolts are tightened. I referred my brother there do you have this water pump replaced, they never tightened the bolts on the water pump. And when he brought it up to them, they tried telling him, he was lying until he pulled up a picture of the bolt, not tightened at all. read more

They did a $200 for a full AC recharge with parts, oil and filter change, and addressing a squeaking belt in under an hour. Love this place! read more

The experience I had with Brakes Plus has unfortunately confirmed I won't be returning. I was quoted one price and then given a different response at checkout, when I questioned it. The employee's reaction including an eye roll and saying there was "nothing he could do it was not him I had spoke with" came across as unprofessional and dismissive. This was especially disappointing because I had already given this location a second chance after a previous visit where oil was not added to my vehicle after an oil change. That is a serious oversight, and combined with this most recent experience, it shows a lack of care and accountability. Based on these repeated issues, I would not recommend this location. read more

I have been a frequent client at The Tatum and Bell location for 5 years and these guys always get the job done quick and efficiency unfortunately, it seems things have changed since then and my recent visit. I recently brought my car in for a power steering issue and had a rather unpleasant experience with the front desk service tech Guillermo . He was extremely rude to me when I asked questions about my service. I felt like I was being blown off and when I asked to speak to the mechanic that worked on my car, he said "they don't wanna talk to you" he continued to brush me off and told me that I had to go to the dealer. I asked again why exactly I had to go to the dealer and what was wrong. I then explained that I did speak with mechanic on the phone and they were telling me a few things that it could be and I'd like to speak with mechanic again He then continued to tell me that they don't want to speak with me and Stonewalled me and gaslit me. I asked to speak to a supervisor again he refused to get a supervisor and continued to stonewall me. I felt very uncomfortable and ended up in my car crying . I will not be returning to this location ever again. This is not how you should treat customers and not how you should treat human beings. read more

I recently visited Breaks Plus for an oil change and brake inspection. While the service itself was fine, my experience with one of the staff members, Jeremy, was very disappointing. After the oil change, I asked Jeremy about the cost of a diesel oil change for a Ford 250 Super Duty. He was dismissive and unhelpful, stating he needed the VIN without making any effort to provide more information or ask clarifying questions. When I tried to provide additional details, he accused me of being rude. I was simply trying to get information to avoid wasting time for both him or I, but his attitude was unprofessional. Additionally, I had come in to get my brakes inspected. Jeremy failed to provide any detailed information on the brakes and only gave me a total cost. During my previous visit, I was informed that I needed new brakes, so I expected a more thorough explanation this time. Interestingly, the rest of the staff were kind and helpful, especially when they saw I was with my 5 month old baby. When I asked a mechanic about the Ford 250 Super Duty, he promptly informed me they couldn't service it due to the lifts. This clear and straight forward answer was all I needed. A fellow customer even approached me to express his shock at Jeremy's rudeness, and stated he too won't be back which suggests this isn't an isolated incident. My husband and I run a contracting business and were considering sending all our vehicles here for service. Overall very slow and poor service they are also very persistent on trying to up sell on issues I don't have! Got my car serviced by Right Toyota and they told me my rear brake pads were down to the 1mm and were dangerous to drive with. I've had my suspicions about that location, so I decided to take it to Brakes Plus for a quote. They inspected my vehicle to find that my front and rear brake pads were at the same life-- half their life. I obviously chose not to get my brake pads replaced, but was so impressed with their honesty. As a woman, I am constantly being taken advantage of at shops and I did not feel that way with my experience at Brakes Plus. Their package options are also very affordable for the value. We recently had my son's Hyundai Sonata towed there after the engine appeared to fail ~ we really weren't sure what the issue was ~ Tony did some diagnostic testing and also shared information about the 2013 and 2014 models that had known engine issues/recalls ~ and he was spot on! Hyundai is replacing the motor (a rather LONG process) ~ and when that work is complete at the dealership, we plan on bringing the car to Tony for some brake work. Service - 4/5 Happiness - 4/5 I had to get my brakes replaced and they were efficient, fast, and friendly. They took and applied their online coupons to all of the services (and they have a Yelp special too that would've saved me more money had I looked there before the service.... d'oh). The only negative is that I wish they had taken more time to explain what they were doing. Ultimately, I ended up paying a bunch of money and while I got a lot of work done, I didn't necessarily want all the services I ended up getting. i paid nearly $800 for them to replace my rack and pinion back in 2014. it continued to leak after replacing it brought it back in 2015 to be supposedly fixed for another $300. to this day still leaks all over the place and everytime ive gone there before that this needs replaced this is bad that is bad (things ive recently fixed like belts) and they try and convince you to get a credit card to pay it off. i called them today and supposedly they dont even have receipt of me coming back in 15 but i still have the receipt see my pictures im uploading. i will never do business with them again as they've done nothing but cause problems for my car. From my recent experience, these guys hands down are the best in the valley. I've been through almost all mechanic shops and these guys are the best.
