Extremely Disappointed - Dishonest, Overpriced, and Poor Workmanship I rarely leave reviews, but my experience with BrakeMax was so frustrating and disappointing that I feel compelled to warn others. From the moment I walked in, it was clear that the staff was more interested in upselling unnecessary services than actually addressing the issues I came in for. They insisted that my transmission fluid was black and needed replacing, that my serpentine belt was cracked, and that my spark plugs and coolant needed urgent replacement--not to mention the supposed urgency of having matching hub caps. Here's the problem: I had already recently replaced the transmission fluid, coolant, and spark plugs elsewhere. When I questioned them about the serpentine belt, they claimed it was cracked. I asked them to show me the cracks, and unsurprisingly, they couldn't point out a single one. Unfortunately, I did agree to have them replace my front brake pads and rotors, which cost me $700--a price I later learned was excessive for just the front brakes. Even worse, I had to take my car to another mechanic shortly after because the work BrakeMax did was sloppy and unsafe. I was informed that the rotors they installed were warped and appeared rusted and old, which explains the ongoing issues I had with braking after the service. BrakeMax claims to value customer feedback. They claim to provide exceptional customer service and fair, transparent pricing. My experience proves otherwise. I found them dishonest, overpriced, and careless with the quality of their work. If BrakeMax chooses to respond to this review, I hope it's not with a copy-paste apology or an invitation to "discuss my experience further" in private. I've already spoken with your staff--you had your chance to make it right, and you chose not to. read more

Excellent service, very efficient, extra helpful, no up-sell, went above and beyond, very reasonable pricing.

First and foremost, the service was excellent. I called the shop when they first opened and they set some good expectations for when they would be able to get me in as I didn't have an appointment. When I arrived, they set some very clear expectations regarding the service I needed. They were also running a deal, which was a nice bonus. I will absolutely be back for another oil change as well as other services that I may need. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone in the area who needs solid work done at fair prices. read more

The mechanics were great and they even gave me a ride to my place so I could put my little one down for a nap while they worked on my car. However, the salesperson didn't listen to me. I had specifically stated that I only wanted my brakes done when they discussed the various things that came up with the inspection. When I came to pick up my car, the price was $300 more than expected. When I got home, my husband and I discovered that there was an extra service done to my car that I had not wanted completed at that time (Mind you, it wasn't an emergency repair that would have caused an issue AND it was something that my husband or his mechanic could totally have done at a later date). So, going into Christmas season we had $300 less than anticipated for holiday gifts and my husband and I had a HUGE argument about how I should have waited for his mechanic since they would have listened to me when I specifically stated what I wanted done and what services I did not want completed after the service was completed. read more

Not sure why this place only has 3 stars. I purchased a 2019 Jeep Trailhawk from Carvana and in less than 24 hours, I had a oil/anti-freeze leak. Called BRAKEmax to see if they can fit me in. Victor was my representative and he has experience with Carvana and Silver Rock insurance. I had to $100 deductible that I was going to pay and adjudicate later, but because I was under the 7 day return policy I didn't have to pay. Only reason that happened was because Victor asked all the right questions and his experience. If you have a Carvana car and Silver Rock insurance you need to take your car here. Friendly staff, great workmanship, and everything is done timely and correctly. Any major or minor issue with my car that I don't have time to fix, I'm bring here. So, currently have my car in for service for an oil change. I did not realize that appointments are needed for timely service. I showed up right at opening. I was not given a time of when service would be completed. I was just told that they fit walk ins in if appointments cancel, or between appointments. I feel like a " by appointment only" notification could be helpful to those thinking about visiting for service. Now half my day is gone, and still no notification that my car has even been started. Date 6/21/24. Current time 2:15pm. That's bad business model from a first and last time customer! read more

They recommended new spark plugs for my highlander and said it would cost 4000 dollars. That seemed expensive so I took it to another place and showed them Brakemax's recommendation. They quoted me 900 dollars total. I regret letting them overcharge me for a previous service now. I do not recommend. read more

Just disappointed I have been going there for about 4 years and have take all of my cars and a few fleet vehicles. They were always very nice and fast. They never tried to up sell me and gave helpful tips when asked. I'm not sure if they got new management but my last to visits were disappointing. First they tried to sell me new tires using an old scare tactic of "you could get a blowout and get in an accident" he could have at least told me the tread depth and recommend me some brands. Today was the topper. I went in for my an oil change and asked for a quote on a transmission service. When I got back he said the transmission service was 240 because it had a CVT transmission. I found odd as I didn't think the lower end models of my car had a CVT trans. So thinking I was wrong I went to the Chevy dealership and asked for a quote on a service and they told me my car does not have a CVT trans but it just doesn't have a dip stick it has a cap just below the batt. And a plug behind the wheel. So I went back to give the brake max folks another shot at my continued business. I asked how he checked my car had a CVT trans and he said "well it doesn't have a dip stick or a drain plug so it's a CVT". So basically he guessed. I don't want to take my car to somewhere that they guess. read more

1. No sensitivity to the Covid-19 Pandemic. No masks, no gloves, not spacial distancing. 2. Damaged left rear wheel in 4 places, I did not notice until after I got home. The wheel was not damaged for I clean my car 2-3 times per week.Because of the attitude of the manager, I decided not to challenge him to replace the tire rim. I am sure they would deny it, since I did not see the damage when I left with the car. 3. Technician was not well trained. Had difficulty in replacing the breaks and had to call on another tech for help. 4. Informed 1-1.5 hr. to complete job it took 2.5+ hours. 5. Technician left grease and oil off of his hands on the steering wheel. 6. Technician changed radio station setting. 7. I am really disappointed and sad there is a business like this one serving Rita Ranch residents. read more

Poor service, unable to preform simple tasks like properly tightening lug nuts. I've given them two chances to fix the same mistake and they failed both times. Horrible. I try to use local businesses and have been taking my vehicle for oil changes etc. in 2015, they said i needed new brakes so did those. Then was back in 2017 due to the brakes squealing they said i needed the brakes replaced so $500 later all done. Nope didn't fix the squealing brakes. I travel a lot so this past Nov when i was back in town took it in again. The gave me some excuse that some type of brakes don't take so the replaced it. Didn't last a week and brakes still squealing. Took it back two months later paid $180 and guess what brakes still squealing. So although their name is brake Max i would have been better off taking it to the dealership. I won't be back there for anything ever again. read more

We called last week to make an appointment for them to look at the AC, it was acting funky. I came in spoke to Chelsea and she set me up used a coupon and they would let me.know what was going on. I was called half an hour later with their findings. I had them do the work it took less than a half hour. They evacuated the system, put new valves in and recharged the system. It was blowing nice cook air after that. Took it in the next day to have them check the dye and make sure we had no leaks. Everyone was polite and kind. We will go back when we need work. We have gone here since it opened. The only problem is they are taking longer and longer to do just an oil change. The last 2 times with an appointment and empty bays it took over and hour and a half. On top of that they are trying more and more to sell me services I do not want them to do. I am thinking of moving on to some where else. Some of the pluses are they are friendly and they have WIFI. Could not use it last time because it was locked/password protected and they said it was not. read more

Took vehicle in for oil change. Receipt shows that they rotated tires, which didn't happen since the front drivers side tire was a little low and still was low after they were done. On the receipt it also states that they checked tire pressure which is wrong again since drivers side tire was still low and they documented pressures higher then recommended. Since they did not rotate the tires I am sure that the documented brake pad thickness was made up as well since you have to take off the tires in order to check the brake thickness. Also, the tread depth on the tires was documented and surprisingly all tires have the same exact tread depth which I know is wrong since I had them recently checked when I bought the vehicle. To me, BRAKEmax showed me that they make up information when it comes to the safety of their customers. It also makes me wonder if they even changed the oil as well. read more

Went in yesterday morning @ 0800 w/o an appointment for an oil change and rotate my tires. Was out the door by 0930 which I think is in excellent time especially w/o an appointment. As always the technicians checked everything to ensure that all was well with my car. They don't usually try to up-sale me things that 'need' to be done for $$$ and they didn't this time either. Did get the nicest compliment this morning on how my car has really nothing wrong with it, my car is a 2015 and I have went here from the beginning of buying it. Horrible customer service. I called ahead, asked if I could get a ride to houghton and Rita (about a mile away) as it's windy and might rain. They said yes, I went to the location asked for the ride and they said they don't have anyone. I had called 10 minutes prior to going to the location. I told him that I called and they already said they could give me a ride and he checked then told me I would have to wait until a guy was done doing oil changes and he wasn't sure when that would be. I told him I had an appointment and pointed out the current weather (windy and cloudy). He said I'd just have to wait. I told him I would just have to walk. I recently visited the Rita Ranch BRAKEmax for my regular vehicle service. It was a great experience. I had an appointment scheduled. When I arrived, they were ready for my car. They performed the needed services while I waited in their lobby. Their store is clean, with no automotive smell inside, and is nicely appointed with plenty of seating, restrooms and an available workstation. I love using locally owned businesses. I been there three times. once for a fuel injection service, Transmission flush and the last time for an oil change. The guy that worked on my car didn't latch my hood and as I was driving down the road it flew up and shattered my windshield. Meh... Took my car in for an oil change. They told me my air filter was dirty and tried to sell me a new one, when my air filter isn't very old and perfectly clean. Tried to get me to pay for an expensive fuel injection service which it doesn't need. They said something along the lines of "your car has high mileage and we have no record of the fuel injectors ever being serviced. We recommend you get this service done." No kidding?! It was my first time ever going to a brakemax of course you don't have a record of it being done! Rip off artists I tell you. I won't be back. read more

I was a long time customer of brake max until recently. Since 2003 when I got my first car, I have been taking my cars to brake max. For about 4 years to the 1st Ave location and for the past 3 years to their Rita Ranch location. I like their service here, they are usually nice. What made me change my mind was recently when I went in to get an oil change 2 hours before their closing time, they were booked and couldn't help me that day, they had appointments on friday, I went on a wednesday. I understand this process, they are busy. I just won't go back because since I was traveling out of town and needed an oil change, I had to go somewhere else. Turns out the other place is a LOT cheaper (same oil brand) without having to cut a coupon, has my car ready within 40 minutes at the latest and overall a great place. I'd still recommend brakemax, as long as you are prepared to wait up to 2 hours or not be seen at all if doing a walk-in. read more

Finally, an auto repair shop that is run by professionals, is clean, and they care about customer satisfaction instead of extortion. Took my car in for an A/C checkup. They diagnosed a couple of minor problems and fixed them and had me out of there in 90 minutes without breaking the bank. Kudos, I will be back. read more

Desperately needed a front end alignment and struts on my HHR. The BrakeMax guys coordinated with Discount Tire down the road a couple of miles, took my front tires and wheels off and drove them down there in their shuttle van so I could get new tires while they were working on my front end. These guys went above and beyond and were courteous, friendly, and fair. I was just traveling through Tucson, but if I lived here, I would take all my vehicles to them. This place deserves 0 stars! They did an oil change for me (simple job, right) which includes checking fluids and my car overheated a week later because there was no antifreeze in it at all. DO NOT COME HERE! If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. We have given this location chances time and time again (because it's so close to the house) and of course they fail every time. This is our absolute last time with them (because of course they again charged us a stupidly expensive amount and didn't fix the problem.) and when we went in to tell them about the problem and that it wasn't fixed (yet again) they were rude and seemingly didn't care. I made an appointment to have my oil changed. I was met my Jeremy, the manager. He could not have been nicer. They changed my oil (I hope) and Jeremy told me I needed two other things done. I agreed to this. Because of the tight quarters inside the business I stayed outside. I watched the mechanic working on my truck stop twice to smoke and once to talk on the phone. He also kept going over to another mechanic to talk and laugh about something. The next day I found where oil had leaked from under the rear end of my truck on my driveway. Needless to say I WAS not happy. Took my truck back. A different guy was behind the counter. He should not be waiting on people. He was very rude and had a, I don't care attitude. He told me he would get my truck in when a mechanic was available and walked away. I asked him where the guy was that I had worked with the day before. he said he was eating lunch. Jeremy came out of the office and said, Hi Sharon. what is wrong? He immediately took my truck in and it back within ten minutes. He told me the mechanic had not cleaned out the oil pan. He apologized. I asked him who the other guy was that I had talked that was so rude. He said David. I told Jeremy that David was an ass-hole. I have been coming to this store for years. This is the second time I took my truck home and it has leaked oil in my driveway. Think it is time to find another place. read more

Very persistant upselling. Better prices at independent shops

They hired a new mechanic and every time he's worked on my wife's Murano I've had to fix things. Four times he changed the oil and left it a quart low, rotated the tires and cross threaded a lug nut and the last time left the intake system untightened after taking it apart for no reason. The mass airflow came loose and the car died on her. I had to drive 25 miles to fix it. These guys used to be good. For 6 years they were great but not anymore. Sadly, they've just deteriorated into another sleazy car shop. read more

I called and made an appointment for a Lube oil and filter and ask if they would lube my 5th wheel hitch for me. Not only did they not lube my 5th wheel hitch not one of the fittings on the whole truck had been lubed. I paid for the work and it was NOT DONE but I was charged for it!!!!!!! read more
