I can't thank BR Electric enough. Brian and his team show up on time, work fast, and clean everything up before they leave. I had a tile contractor tell me he could do under counter lighting for me since they were tiling my backsplash in my kitchen. I got a bid from Brian to upgrade my electrical panel by adding an additional 20 amp circuit. He was able to swing by on a weekend to look at my panel first before providing a verbal estimate. What I appreciated about Brian was that he asked enough questions to try and figure out how I was going to use the additional outlets and power. For my purpose, he made some really good suggestions about where to place the outlets and also looked for other opportunities to provide even more power than the single 20 amp circuit that I wanted in my garage. He ended up giving me two outlets on a 20 amp circuit in addition to the dedicated 20 amp circuit I originally wanted. Also, he used armored MC cable instead of romex in my garage due to the open joist walls. Brian is very detailed about doing his cable layout, making sure that everything is run neatly and logically. A lot of people are going to judge contractors based solely on price, but what you end up paying for is Brian's attention to detail, coming prepared to do the job with all the right parts and tools, and performing everything in a timely fashion. read more

Made an appointment for some repairs that we needed. Requested that the estimate and the work be completed on the same day. That did not happen. Only the owner came out and gave me an estimate. Then I took another day off and this time their worker showed up without the parts to do the work. The owner showed up and said he was going to go and buy the parts we needed. In the end, the work got done but the invoice had high level prices ($500 for one piece of work that took less than two hours.) (I asked for an explanation after I received the invoice and never received a response.) Brian is a nice guy but I think he has too many high end clients. After the Yelp reviews, I called Brian on a Sunday and left a message, letting him know it wasn't an urgent thing, that I needed an estimate and he could call me on Monday. A few hours later, I get a call from him saying he's at church, and to text him my address and he will try to get to me on Monday. Monday I text him my address and from his number I get back 3 texts of pictures with 2 ladies standing beside each other(???!!!) So, I called and left another message, that I hope he got my address, was he still coming and why did I get pictures from his phone, and 3 of them at that. When he called me back, he sounded a bit frazzled, and said he would be out later in the afternoon. And he never showed up. While Brian may be an amazing technician, his workers left my walls with little holes around the electric sockets.... The plugs are loose and it doesn't look great. Other than that the permits didn't get taken care of until almost a year after. He took care of it when I brought it to his attention that it couldn't have final connections done still. I need more work done, but I am worried if I call him I will get much of the same. Oh, one other thing, they wired MOST of my house, but didn't ground the living room...said I wasn't specific about wanting that room grounded. We lost power to both of our bathrooms and our hallway. The breaker had not been thrown, and the GFI plugs would not respond. It was confounding. Brian was called at 6:30pm, their closing time, but he still came out at 7:30 and spent a good hour trying to find the problem. He diligently checked every possible area (all the plugs, the switches, the out side plug, even pulling the panel) until we surmised that it could be our wired in smoke detector. When the smoke detector was taken apart, there was the problem, our wiring had caught on fire! We were extremely lucky that the fire did not spread! Scarily enough, our smoke detector had gone off a few days prior, but we thought it was a low battery issue. Seeing the melted wires showed us how lucky we were. Brian left our house much safer than he found it. You should call Brian for your problems because he is a professional, he cares about the client, and he gives excellent service. Yes, my wife and I did see that negative review, but after experiencing Brian's service first hand, that review does not make sense now. We are going to use Brian again to do a box clean-up which just makes too much sense now. Our condo was built in the 80's, but our power needs are clearly in the 21st Century, we should all consider that. If you want your home checked out, BR Electric and Brian are your people. read more

The quality of BR Electric's work is excellent. The only reason for the one star deduction is that it can be difficult to get in touch with Brian. However, that's really a fairly minor quibble, as the primary focus of the review is whether the work was done well and on that score it's five stars. Brian did work to clean up the electric panel after several remodels left it a mess and he also fixed a problem we had with canned lighting burning out. After that job was finished we bought a Tesla and Brian installed the NEMA 14-50 charging outlet in the garage. Prices are fair (not the cheapest, but you often get what you pay for, so keep that in mind when comparing prices), the work is meticulous and the details are done better than you'd expect. So while I do feel a bit bad about taking off one star for the response time, I hope that this review puts it in the proper context. read more

Upon arrival Brian was professional and very quickly I get a sense that he knows this electrical business inside and out. A circuit breaker tripped when I was vacuuming my master bedroom, and I couldn't reset it. I knew it was either going to be an easy fix (a bad breaker) or something serious. Called BR Electric for a trouble shooting appointment. Brian was straightforward with the rates. They were very reasonable. It turned out to be serious. He went through every possible combination and permutation to figure out the source of the problem. It was like one of those schematics you might have done back in your Physics circuits class. At the end the job, Brian wound up saving me $1200 by figuring out how not to take out a wall to fix the problem. The whole time he was working, he brought me over to show me exactly what he was doing and explained why he was doing it. And I actually understood what he was saying. And I'm as close to being an electrician as I am to looking like Johnny Depp (ie not even). He has worked on many of the new houses in San Ramon and you could tell that was true, because he knew exactly how each outlet and box in the bedroom was wired before he opened it up. And on top of all that, Brian is a mad funny conversationalist. He guarantees and stands by his work. A thoroughly nice chap, both professional and friendly! Brian just installed an electrical outlet at my home, and I've gotta say - Yelp is right again; the superlative reviews are spot on. I called Brian Tuesday afternoon, left a message, and asked if there was anyway he could squeeze me in the next day (Wednesday). He called me back a few minutes later, letting me know he was available, and that he'd give me a call the next day when he had a better idea of timing. Brian called the next day, asking if it would be okay to show up in about an hour. I said yes, Brian arrived, was super friendly, did the job straight away, and charged a very reasonable price to boot. He even asked for my vacuum so that he could clean up after himself! I got quotes from a couple other East Bay electricians beforehand, and they seemed to operate on a "how much can this guy pay?" pricing scheme - quoting very high, and then bringing it down massively (50%!) after I queried the price. We have used BR Electric for three separate projects now, and the fact that we keep coming back should say everything. We needed to get a new electrical outlet installed upstairs so we could add a refrigerator in our babies' room. Brian came out and had the whole thing wrapped up in a a couple of hours. He was responsive and quick, but what was nice was that he was able to do it in a way that kept the drywall disruption to a minimum. We didn't have to do any patching as he was able to go in through a corner in the closet. Then we got a new big refrigerator that required an outlet to be moved. He came in on short notice again and got it done well. No issues at all. More recently, we had a DIY project in our garage. He was able to add new outlets, run cabling to other parts of the wall, hang some can lights in our ceiling, and help us hook up a TV. We called him late in the day on a Monday, and he was there later that night (his birthday, no less) just to take a look. He spent about 40 minutes with us talking through what we needed. Then he and one of his guys showed up the next morning at 7am (they squeezed us in because we needed it done before we could finish the project). The biggest thing about all of these projects is honestly the customer service part. They have always been helpful. They offer up advice on things they aren't even going to necessarily do. They are nice to be around. It doesn't feel like a shady transaction, and we didn't leave wondering if we had been swindled. I have no idea how he prices out relative to others, but the jobs have always been done well and to code, and we have felt happy about each interaction. Brian is a very nice guy; the team was polite and did very good work. We had new lighting installed in several rooms, as well as outdoors, and all seem to work well. The guys tried to create as little mess of the sheet rock as possible. Prices are slightly high, but you know everything right up front, so that part is fine. However... Brian loses a star for his inconsistent communication and tardiness. If he says "I'll call you in the morning to give you a time...", or "I'll e-mail you tonight", don't believe it! Call him if your schedule is important! Also, after tracking him down and finally pinning him down to an 11am start time, they finally showed at 3:45pm! My Friday night plans were blown to heck, as the guys were over until after 9pm. They didn't get to one item on my list because of the late start time. There were also delays when Brian had to go buy needed parts. I will definitely use Brian again and do recommend him, but know that you'll need to be a little flexible regarding any scheduling issues. read more

I can't say enough good things about Brian. I first used Brian back in the fall and he installed recessed lights on dimmer in 3 different rooms in the house. He was on time, clean, knew his stuff, finished in the time he estimated it would take him. The job came out great. This week, the circuit breaker for my spa tripped. I called Brian and he made time to come out after work the next day to take a look and let me know what it would take to fix. He made it out, listened to my description of the problem, looked at the circuit board, went out to the spa, found the emergency disconnect, which sadly I wasn't aware I had. He quickly identified the problem and fixed it. all in five minutes. He said the circuit breaker was old, and will eventually need replacing but was fine for now. I bought a new dryer a few weeks ago and it stopped working last week. The appliance company came out to take a look and said the breaker was the problem, not the dryer. I called BR Electric and made an appointment, which was difficult because the only window I had that week was the next day after 6:00 pm. That wasn't a problem at all for Brian, and he really worked with my schedule. Without going into boring detail, he spent a good amount of time checking every possible cause for the problem and, after figuring out it was the dryer itself that was the issue, showed me exactly what was wrong so I could explain it to the appliance company. I also asked him about replacing the breaker box, which a previous contractor had suggested. Brian fixed a couple of issues that the other contractor had caused, saying that replacing the box would have been a huge waste of money. Instead of replacing the box for thousands of dollars he spent a few minutes and saved me all that time and headache. Brian is one of those rare contractors who is honest and up front about things. He's also a good business owner, because he lives and breathes the concept of customer service and building relationships. Working with Brian is like having your buddy help you with some electrical work - except Brian actually knows what he's doing. I called him the day after Thanksgiving 2009 because our fire alarm had gone off on Thanksgiving day, and ever since we could smell a faint burning smell. Brian came out that same day and said the smell was more like an appliance problem, but three of us couldn't tell which appliance it was coming from. To be safe, he pulled off the cover on the electrical panel and did some tests, as well as testing a number of outlets in the kitchen. Brian made me feel a lot better about my house as he said the panel was wired very cleanly and everything looked great. He felt bad about not being able to tell which appliance was causing the smell, even though this wasn't something that fell into his area of responsibility, and he even called a few days later to see if the problematic appliance had made itself known yet (it hadn't) because it was bothering him. A couple of months later, our oven started acting up, turned out it was the panel that controlled the double ovens that had the problem. Months later, I ran into Brian at a local restaurant and he remembered me and asked which appliance had gone bad! Needless to say, when I decided to add more lighting to my garage, I called Brian immediately. He did a great job for a reasonable price. I checked out Yelp for a local electrician to do a quick wiring and installation of an outlet job in my newly remodeled and almost compete garage. Being as I was 95% done with the garage and only had a day left before I had to go back to work, I asked the electricians I called if they could come out and do it the same day. Brian was the only one who said he would. I asked when we could do it and he said he'd be by to check it out in an hour or so and that, as soon as his guys completed the job they were working on, he'd do my work which should be about 4 or 5PM. It was 11AM when I spoke to him. At about 12:15 he shows up, checks out my job, gives me a base rate one hour minimum call quote, I agree, and he leaves. At 4PM Brian calls and says he's on his way. By 5PM he has completed the job, cleaned-up the area where had worked and was on his way. All-in-all, a first rate job performance delivered in a timely (exceedingly so!) manner at a fair electrician's price.
