Mike is a wonderful electrician! We were referred to Mike by many of our neighbors and very happy with their advice. Mike helped to put in a 220 v plug for our electric car last year and he did a really good job at an affordable rate. He looked at some of our other wiring issues in our garage and gave us some pointers on that as well. Recently, we had an issue with our main electrical box and he came over the same day on his day off and was able to get us a temporary solution so we could have power until he is able to return to upgrade our service. We had a couple issues with PG&E and our home warranty and he is helping us navigate through that. Mike is super experienced, knowledgeable, and very kind. With my local gym, office gym & jiu-jitsu academies closed due to the pandemic, I was forced to make a crucial decision... 1. Give Up 2. Build a home gym #1 not being an option, the TRUE decision was whether I attempted to carve out a small section of the garage to make a home gym OR kick my car to the literal curb & go all-in. I opted for the latter, forcing me to pull my baby out of the garage (the car that rarely ever sees the light of day), exposing it to all the elements... As a result, the next logical step was ensuring the driveway had some type of monitoring capability (both for the cars + the $ I dropped on gym gear). Opted for the Ring Floodlight, but required a ground-up install since none of the houses in our development had driveway lighting installed by default (NOT a job I was comfortable with attempting myself). Started with Yelp (though the # of options were overwhelming), with several highly rated suggestions having unrealistic/absurdly high dispatch fees, etc... In efforts to narrow down options, I also did a quick search on NextDoor, with a bulk of the recommendations referring Mike. Gave Mike a call (who of course was busy), but was able to give me both a ballpark quote over the phone + an ETA as to when his schedule would open up. Sure enough (about a week or so later), Mike followed up as promised w/ a date/window that he would be able to complete the job. Mike gave me a text the day prior to confirm the appointment & also provided guidance as to how much clearance would be needed inside the garage (4-5 ft from the door), also ensuring me (due to our anxiety w/ social distancing, etc...) that all the work could be done in/outside of the garage & he shouldn't have to step foot in the house at all. When Mike arrived (on time, with a text ETA prior to arrival), he began work immediately (though not after a very friendly greeting/introduction) + jokingly thanking me for "bringing the shade" following a near ~100° temp the day prior. No more than an hour or so later (drilling/hammering in the garage), Mike was soon cleaning up/vacuuming & leaving no trace (other than now a perfectly mounted flood light in the driveway & switch in the garage) that he was ever there. Invoice was exactly as estimated (no surprise fees) & my Ring Floodlight is working flawlessly (now integrated w/ my Echo Show, etc...). NextDoor didn't fail me, with Mike's stellar reviews further validated by Yelp (great teamwork!). We've got more jobs planned (i.e. generator install & recessed lighting in the family room), but will plan on scheduling once things settle down a bit... read more

I've been using McGuire Electric for at least 10 years now. I moved twice but stayed in the area and still call Mike when I need electrical work. Now I live in Sunny Glen in a 30 year old condo. Last year he updated the electrical panel in the garage and added a sub panel so I would not have to go outside on a rainy night to flip a switch. Last week I called him to add light kits to my ceiling fans. He recommended buying new fans with LED lights built in. I liked that suggestion and bought two new ceiling fans in white to match the ceiling, with the LED light already mounted. We used Michael for a collection of wiring/installation projects that we had been accumulating for several years. The triggering event for finally bringing in an electrician was our purchase of a new spa, which required the installation of a new power line out to the spa area (down from our central breaker panel in the center of the house, through the crawlspace, and out to the spa). We also had him install a convenience outlet near the spa for future use, install 4 new recessed lighting fixtures and two wall sconces in the dining room, along with new dimmer switches (necessitating work in our unfinished attic), installation of a new outlet in our laundry room, and installation of a new light in the stairs leading from our garage into the house. Michael's work was careful, clean, and precise, and completed well within his estimate of the time it would take. He was responsive, communicative (i.e., he returns call promptly, can explain the pluses/minuses of alternatives, and offered specific recommendations for some of the fixtures needed for our jobs, which we bought and provided). He was very helpful in deciding among the various possible options for some of these projects, and he was quick to suggest alternatives that would save us money. Best of all, Michael's fee for doing this work (some of which we added after we initially contracted with him) was significantly less than two other bids we solicited. If you're looking for an honest, knowledgeable and professional electrician, you should look no further. This is the guy you should use - hands down. I called Michael to ask if he'd give a quote to fix an annoying surge of electricity in my house. I had several contractor quotes as I was thinking of remodeling. At least 3 of them told me that I needed to replace my fuse box, and it would cost ~$5000-$7000 + cost of city permit. I made an appointment with Michael to come out and quote/repair. He did advise that I first call PG&E and they will come out for free to check if it's a problem on their end. I took Michael's advice, PG&E sent someone out that day (Sunday) and found that there was an issue with their equipment on the exterior of my house. It cost me NOTHING for the repair! I have NEVER run across a service professional with such honesty and integrity.
