Had a large 3' diameter 40'+ tall tree removed by Mike Boyd Tree Service. Estimate was very reasonable. Tree was overhanging our home and trunk was only a few inches from the outside wall. They brought the tree down safely with no damage to our property. They put down sheets of 1" plywood to protect our asphalt driveway from falling limbs. They did a great job of grinding the stump as close to the house as they dared. They hauled everything away and left our property as clean as when they arrived. I can highly recommend Mike Boyd Tree service and will be using them again as needed. Thank you Mike and crew for a great job. read more

I asked for some free wood chips, and Mike delivered really nice redwood chips to my driveway. He didn't try to sell me anything and was really friendly. After delivery, he went on his merry way. read more

Made an appointment for an estimate, nobody showed up and no call. I called back the next day and left a message. No reply. I've heard nothing. Business must be good. UPDATE: Mike (the owner) contacted me about the problems and made a huge effort to make things right. He gave me a great estimate. He had his crew over first thing in the morning the next day. They did a great job on my trees and cleaned up the mess. All good now. read more

I had a very large branch break and land in the street. The City came out and determined that the whole tree needed to come out. I called Kathy at Boyd's and they came out the same day to the delight of my neighbors who had to take an alternate route to leave the house. The price was fair & the work was perfect. I would recommend Boyd's to anyone that needs tree service... especially when you need it in a hurry. Thanks again to Kathy and the whole team at Boyd's! read more

Very happy with the service and the price. He did extensive tree trimming and it looks great! The crew trims a tree so it looks like a tree, not a lollypop. Couldn't be happier. read more

We called Mike at Boyd's Tree service on a Saturday and shared with him that we had a limb that looked like it was about to fall & had a severe crack in it. He texted me he was not available until Monday to take a look at it. He squeezed us in and showed up exactly on time. He found 3 other branches with serious cracks. Boyd's tree service is doing the work today. He was so gracious to move us into his full schedule adding he too felt the repair was urgent. Mike seems very knowledgeable and gave us a fair quote (not gouging us as we were in a tough place) so needless to say we are excited to see the work get done & the tree be restored to a safe & healthy tree. read more

I had Boyd's trim three trees - two elm and a sycamore, each about 50 years old. They did a fine job with the elm trees and cleanup after their work, but I am horrified by what they did to the sycamore. They took a spreading shade tree that kept the house and yard cool in the summer, but needed a little trimming to get small branches off the roof, and instead cut off almost all the lower big limbs, some a foot in diameter. And so what was once a wonderful shade tree is now a parking-lot tree with all of the limbs within ten feet of the ground gone. Branches my kids used to climb into are now stacked on the ground in short pieces. And this major surgery they did without even asking "are you sure this is what you want done?" A few hours with the chain saws and the damage was done. Clearly there are serious communications problems with this gang, and I wish I'd never heard of them. They did damage to a great old tree that can never be repaired. If you decide to gamble with them then make sure you watch them, because what you tell the boss obviously isn't always communicated to the crew. read more

Boyd Tree service came to my house to just cut a tree down, cut limbs off, no clean up, we were going to use all of the tree, limbs for firewood & the 8' trunk of the tree, my son is a wood worker & wanted the base of the whole tree to mill it into lumber himself. Mike's 2 guys he sent out were very polite, did exactly as I asked, and were VERY safe & professional, their rope work to climb the tree & safely lower cut limbs to the ground were very astounding & fun to watch. As I told Mike, I use to work for the U.S. Forest Service fighting forest fires for over 20 years, I fell over hundreds of trees but never near homes, usually after a fire or during to make clearings, his men's skills surpassed mine a hundred times over! Thank You Mike & crew for a job WELL DONE, I'll definitely use you again & I will be happy to refer you!! Joe Fedor/San Jose read more

I'm so glad that I chose this company to trim trees in front and back of my house. They sure know how and where to cut, instead of just butchering them. Mike, the owner came to give me an estimate and I knew this is the right company. So I canceled two other appointments for more estimates. The workers are polite, hardworking and have a great teamwork. It's been a month since they trim them and they still look great. I'll give 10 stars for these guys!! read more

Mike Boyd, Cathy and RJ lead a great team of hardworking tree trimmers. RJ is smart, knowledgeable, friendly, dependable and can communicate well with customers and employees. I met with 8 potential services and picked Boyd's because of their outstanding Yelp reviews and their fair pricing. Willing to negotiate and offer all cash discounts helped me select Boyd's. They arrived on time with two trucks, all the needed equipment and solid crew. They cut up wood for my fireplace and thoroughly cleaned up all areas. I highly recommend this contractor! Mike Boyd runs a top notch outfit. I had 7 trees trimmed. The crew showed up on time. While trimming, they consulted with me twice to be sure the trees were trimmed to my liking. Mike is such a nice guy. He didn't just give me the estimate of the trees that I requested. He also pointed out an apple tree which is 80% dead due to termites. The price he gave is very reasonable. On the service day, his crew showed up on time and working very efficiently and courteous. two of trees are very close to the fence. When they remove stump, they used extra caution to not touch the fence. There are some apples on the branches, crew picked all the apples and save them in the basket for me before discard the branches. After ground out stump, the crew clean the backyard and side walk -very neat. I am very happy with price and services they provided. I will definitely use them again. read more

Really half-assed service. Needed a large--16 foot--tree staked. Owner promised extra long stakes and professional work. Workers used short stakes, did an unprofessional job. We had a big tree that was lifting our concrete patio, we thought for sure it would be really expensive to have removed. On a recommendation, we had Boyd's give us estimate, which we felt was very reasonable, 2 days later the tree was removed. They were on-time (actually early, too early to start be before the 8am ordinance), fast and efficient. They also did a nice job of cleaning up the debris. We would highly recommend them. read more

I had two birch trees in my front yard that needed removed. Both were close to my house, and the branches on one of them were intertwined with a tree in my neighbors yard. I hired Boyd's Tree Service based on their Yelp! reviews and the fact that they have an active contractor's license and insurance. Mike got back to me the same day I called to give me a price. I thought I got a very good price considering how many man hours went into the job. They were very careful to make sure there was no damage to my house, my neighbors tree, or my lawn sprinklers when taking down the trees. Everything was hauled off, and cleanup was meticulous. No reason not to give them five stars. read more

Wow, great job and a reasonable price. I had a huge tree that needed to be removed. They quickly scheduled my job, needing to coordinate schedules with the concrete people that were also involved in this project. Tree came down quickly and neatly. They even protected my nearby flowerbed and I didn't lose even one flower. That amazed me as I assumed there was no way to protect them. Ground-out the stump into nice small pieces that were easy to redistribute. The crew was courteous and neat. Great cleanup. Would not hesitate to use them again. Again, great job guys. read more

I recently received a notice from the city of San Jose to remove and replace the tree on the park strip. I called four tree services on the list provided by the city, they all promised to send me a quote within a week but I did not received any quote after two weeks with follow up called. At the same time, I called Boyd's Tree Service on Friday afternoon, Kathy took down the information and promised that I would receive the quote by Tuesday and I did. I also got a quote from a tree service referred by my co-worker. His quote came in way higher than Boyd's Tree Service. I had Boyd's Tree Service removed the tree and stump. They scheduled the work within a week. They did a good job and left the place nice and clean. Today, they are working on trimming a big tree in front of my neighbor's house. Thank you Boyd's Tree Service and I will prefer your service to anyone who in need of tree services. read more
